John R. Kraft, 51, of Granite City, died May 12, 2006, in Granite City. He was born Feb. 7, 1955, in St. Louis, the son of the late John E. and Margaret Kraft nee Armstrong. Mr. Kraft is survived by his children Angela Kraft of Waterloo and John (Jessica) Kraft of Waterloo; grandchildren Xaviour, Karla, James and Jeremiah; sister Ruth Kueffe; brother Harold Kraft; and nieces Melody and Robyn. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Kraft was a member of River Life Community Church in Granite City. Gerald Klein, 59, of Valmeyer, died May 18, 2006, in Swansea. He was born Sept. 29, 1946, in St. Louis, the son of the late Roland Joseph and Bertha Klein nee Martindale. Mr. Klein is survived by his children Michael Klein of Belleville and Theresa Klein of Valmeyer; grandchildren Michelle Klein, Sierra Klein and Kiana Klein; brothers Joseph (Barbara) Klein of Waterloo and Larry Klein of St. Charles; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Michelle Klein and sister Elaine Hoggard. Visitation and a memorial service were at Quernheim Funeral Home.
Leon J. Bradley, 76, of Millstadt, died May 20, 2006, in Waterloo. He was born Jan. 24, 1930, in St. Louis, the son of the late Leon C. and Delores Bradley nee Burkhart. He married the late Patricia Ann Hammel in 1953. Mr. Bradley is survived by his children Leon M. (Bobbie) Bradley of Waterloo, Lynn (Darrel) Kalbfleisch of Waterloo, Daniel Bradley of Waterloo, Tom Bradley of Millstadt, Joanne (Tim) Newcom of Columbia, Tim Bradley of Millstadt, Mary (Paul) Sollberger of Waterloo, Mickie Stumpf of Waterloo and Steven (Leslie) Bradley of Millstadt; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters Mary (Charles) Ingalls of Freeburg, Patricia (Louis) Gerardi of Waterloo and Jane (Denny) Voegele of Columbia; and brother Jim (Mary) Bradley of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers Bill Bradley, Edward Bradley and Dan Bradley. Mr. Bradley retired as the owner/operator of Bradley Plumbing. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at Immaculate Conception Church, Fr. Steve Gira officiating. Marie L. Heusohn nee Borcharding, 87, of Waterloo, died May 21, 2006, in Waterloo. She was born Oct. 1, 1918, in Maeystown, the daughter of the late Henry and Wilhelmina Borcharding nee Juelfs. She was married to the late Alfred M. Heusohn. Mrs. Heusohn is survived by her children Janet (Delbert) Scheibe of Waterloo, Jerry (Helen) Heusohn of Waterloo, Judy (Bob) Mentel of Broomfield, Colo., John (Becky) Heusohn of Valmeyer, and Joyce (Roland) Wegener of Waterloo; daughter-in-law Shirley Heusohn of Pensacola, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother Alvin (Arlou) Borcharding of Columbia; sister-in-law Ardell Mueller of Waterloo; dear friend Amanda Goss; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son James Heusohn, daughter Jacklyn Heusohn, sisters Nelda Smith and Ardell Durrer, and brothers Armin Borcharding, Henry Borcharding and Alfred Borcharding. Mrs. Heusohn was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo. She was also a member of the Waterloo American Legion Auxiliary and Woodmen of the World. Anita S. Rhodes nee Schroeder, 91, of Denver, Colo., May 21, 2006, in Denver. She was born April 8, 1915, in Bismark, Mo., the daughter of the late John F. and Kate Schroeder nee Schneider. She was married to the late Willard G. Rhodes. She is survived by her brother Russell Schroeder of Denver, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers Harry Schroeder, Harold Schroeder, Ralph Schroeder and Virgil Schroeder. A graveside service was held at St. John Cemetery in Valmeyer, Pastor Matt Friz officiating.
Bernadette Mullendore nee Kroll, 64, of Swisher, Ia., formerly of Columbia, died May 22, 2006, in Iowa. She was born May 22, 1942, in Sugar Creek, Mo., to John J. and Barbara Kroll nee Bernadich. She was married to Lawrence Mullendore for 43 years. Mrs. Mullendore is survived by her husband; sons Randal Mullendore and Scott Mullendore; four grandchildren; sister Barbara Dime; and aunt Mildred “Milka” Bernadich. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother John Kroll, Jr. Mrs. Mullendore was a former member of Immaculate Conception Church in Columbia, where she and her husband raised their children. She owned and operated a family business while raising her sons, and worked as an administrator with the court appointed special advocates for abused and neglected children. Visitation was at Carson-Speaks Chapel in Independence, Mo. A funeral mass was held at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church in Sugar Creek, Mo. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Elvera Hoffmann nee Bozzay, 98, of St. Louis, formerly of Tipton, died May 24, 2006, in St. Louis. She was born Sept. 20, 1907, in Perth Amboy, N.J., the daughter of the late Dennis and Helen Bozzay nee Horvath. She was married to the late Frank E. Hoffmann. Mrs. Hoffmann is survived by her son Donald (Dorothy) Hoffmann of Fenton, Mo.; grandchildren Chris (Neal Johnson) Hibbard, Jeff (Julie) Hibbard, Don (Mary Kay) Hoffmann, David (Terri) Hoffmann and Donna (John) Hermosillo; seven great-grandchildren; brothers Jim (Sugar) Bozzay of St. Louis and William (Helen) Bozzay of St. Louis; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Barbara Hibbard, sister Olga (Jack) Schauer, and brother Dennis (Fran) Bozzay. John H. Mitchell, died May 26, 2006. He was married to Elsie S. Schwartz. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, daughter Ruth (James) Cooper, granddaughter Angela (Tim) Ellison, great-grandsons John Valentine, Alex Valentine and Lauren Ellison. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Myrtle Jehling. Mr. Mitchell was a founder and president of the Waterloo Park Board. He served two terms as an alderman and two terms as mayor of the City of Waterloo. He was a charter member and first commander of the Waterloo V.F.W. Post 6504, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2119 in Webster Groves and a fourth degree member of St. Louis Assembly 565. He was a U.S. veteran of World War II, where he served in the Pacific in the Army Air Corps, and of the Korean War, where he served in the Air Force. Visitation was at Hoffmeister South County Chapel. A funeral mass was at St. Mark Catholic Church in St. Louis. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Dolores E. Pierce nee Foley, 79, of Fults, died May 27, 2006, in Fults. She was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Alva, Ken., the daughter of the late Charles and Rose Foley nee Creekmore. She was married to Grapol L. “Roy” Pierce. Mrs. Pierce is survived by her husband, children Kathryn R. Wehking of Waterloo, Joyce M. (Bob) Nelson of Golden, Colo., Dave (Pam) Pierce of St. Louis, and Carl W. (Cari) Pierce of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; brother Gorman (Arlene) Foley of Colorado; and sister Geralee Elless of Texas. She was preceded in death by her parent and brother Charles Foley. Leona H. Jaenke nee Gilbert, 85, of Waterloo, died May 28, 2006, in Waterloo. She was born Aug. 29, 1920, in Valmeyer, the daughter of the late Adam and Bertha Gilbert nee Scheibe. She was married to the late LeRoy Jaenke. Mrs. Jaenke is survived by her son David (Jill) Jaenke; grandchildren Derek Jaenke, Jena Jaenke and Doran Jaenke; sisters and brothers Carnel (Catherine) Gilbert of Valmeyer, Dorothy Johnson of Waterloo, Virginia Keaton of Waterloo, Alberta Wild of Waterloo, Roy (Yvonne) Gilbert of Fults, and Judy (Roger) Wild of Waterloo; and niece, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Mrs. Jaenke was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Valmeyer. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a volunteer at Red Bud Regional Hospital and the Monroe County Care and Rehab Center. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home.
