Luella Wortman nee Laudon, 94, of Waterloo, died February 9, 2006, in Chester. She was born May 3, 1911, in Red Bud, the daughter of the late John and Mary Laudon nee Becker. She was married to the late Louis Wortman. Mrs. Wortman is survived by her son Orville J. (Erlene) Bievenue of Red Bud; three grandchildren; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Wilbert J. Wortman and sister Selma Stamm. Mrs. Wortman was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Visitation and funeral services were at Quernheim Funeral Home, Pastor Kyle Sandersfeld officiating. She is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo.
Otis Lutz, 87, of Waterloo, died February 10, 2006, in Waterloo. He was born December 31, 1918, in Waterloo, the son of the late Moritz and Luella Lutz nee Rexroth. He was married to Aurelia Lutz nee Reinhold. Mr. Lutz is survived by his wife; children Dennis (Christine) Lutz of University City, Mo., Robert (Martha) Lutz of Naples, Fla., and Glen (Sheryl) Lutz of Waterloo; grandchildren Dan Lutz, Jenny Lutz, Lauren-Nicole Lutz and Eric Lutz. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Warren Lutz, and sister-in-law Mildred Lutz nee Niebruegge. Mr. Lutz was Postmaster of the Waterloo Post Office for 28 years. He served on the Waterloo School Board for 19 years and was director of First National Bank of Waterloo for 43 years. He was a parliamentarian for National Postmasters Association, and was a member of the Waterloo American Legion. He was a member of the Waterloo Municipal Band, serving as drum major for many years, and was a charter member of VFW Post #6504. He was an avid golfer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo, Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. He is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to the Veterans Memorial at Lakeview Park or Oak Hill (Monroe County Care and Rehab Center).
Joseph M. Hermes, 50, of Waterloo, died February 11, 2006, in Carlyle. He was born June 11, 1955, in Breese, the son of Elenora Hermes and the late John W. Hermes. He was married to Debbie Hermes nee Netemeyer. Mr. Hermes is survived by his mother; wife; daughter Ann Hermes of Columbia; brother John (Karen) Hermes of Waterloo; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father. Mr. Hermes was a member of Waterloo Knights of Columbus Council #1334 and the Holy Name Society of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School. Michael J. Eichenseer, 84, of Ruma, died February 14, 2006, in Red Bud. He was born July 10, 1921, in Wetaug, the son of the late Michael and Elizabeth Eichenseer nee Danter. Mr. Eichenseer is survived by his brothers Vincent “Bitts” Eichenseer of Ruma, and Anthony (Wilma) Eichenseer of Sparta; brother-in-law Leonard Bartling Sr., of St. Louis; nieces and nephews Leonard Bartling, Karen Bartling, Kathleen Bartling, Vicki Nurnberger, Nancy Watts, David Eichenseer and Jeanne Schroeder; great-nieces and great-nephews Amy Schisler, Rachel Nurnberger, Joe Eichenseer, Michael D. Eichenseer, Becky McLaughlin, Tim Eichenseer, Ryan Schroeder, David Bartling and Andrew Bartling. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Catherine Bartling; brothers Albert Eichenseer, Bernard Eichenseer and Sylvester Eichenseer; step-father Joseph Zipfel; step-brothers Justin Zipfel, Robert Zipfel, Henry Zipfel and Firmin Zipfel; and step-sister Margaret Telford. Elmer H. Voges, 84, of Red Bud, died February 15, 2006, in Red Bud. He was born November 6, 1921, in Red Bud, the son of the late Herman and Mary Voges nee Miller. He was married to the late Verneeds M. Voges nee Hoef. Mr. Voges is survived by his son Milton (fiancee Pamela Linky) Voges of Red Bud; son-in-law Farrel Hill of Belleville; seven grandchildren; one step-grandchild; eight great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; sister Olga Huber of Freeburg; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; daughter Alice Hill; brother Theodore Voges, and sisters Irene Callaway and Adeline Voges. Viola “Vi” M. Hoffman nee Schoenberger, 92, of Sullivan, Mo., formerly of Evansville, died February 16, 2006, in Sullivan, Mo. She was born May 31, 1913, in Evansville, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna Schoenberger nee Young. She married the late Theodore Hoffman in 1946; he preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Hoffman is survived by her children Harold (Carol) Hoffman of St. Clair; and Margie (Karl) Beierschmitt of Mission Viejo, Calif.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers Felix (Shirley) Schoenberger of Tucson, Ariz., and Charles (Laura) Schoenberger of Lake Wales, Fla.; sister Alvera Jamison of Vancouver, Wash.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Shirley Null, three sisters and three brothers. Mrs. Hoffman was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Evansville. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Evansville. She managed the American Legion Hall in Evansville for 25 years. She was a member of the Senior Citizens in Red Bud and Evansville. Eric J. Kelley, 26, of Waterloo, died February 16, 2006, in Waterloo. He was born June 3, 1979, in Belleville, the son of Cletus and Sharon Kelley nee Miller. Mr. Kelley is survived by his parents; grandparents Walter J. Kelley Jr., and Olin and Doris Kettelkamp; aunts and uncles Dave and Carol Biffar nee Kelley, Brenda Oxmann, Curtis and Christine Miller, Earline Johnson, Roger and Vicki Nurnberger, Gary and Luann Nurnberger, and Bonnie Wedel; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Eileen M. Kelley, grandfather Earl Nurnberger, and uncle Gene Kelley. Mr. Kelley worked at Human Support Services. Ruby Jane Starr nee Dowell, 74, of Cahokia, died Feb. 17, 2006, in Belleville. She was born Oct. 4, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., the daughter of the late George Washington and Myrtle Dowell nee Dixon. She was married to Edward Starr. Mrs. Starr is survived by her husband; sons Steve (April) Starr of Columbia, Ricky (Sonda) Starr of Belleville, and Mark Starr of Cahokia; daughters Diana Starr of Cahokia, and Brenda (Aaron) Duckworth of Wright City, Mo.; grandchildren Ryan, Robbie, Tia, Blake, Aaron, Angela, Deanna, Eddie and Steve; great-grandchildren Eddie, Lindsay and Isaiah; sisters Eula Mae (Gene) Van Alstine, Lois (Bob) Webb, and Yvonne Dowell; and brothers Oscar (Juanita) Dowell and Archie Dowell. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Eddie Starr, and eight brothers and sisters. Mrs. Starr attended Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Cahokia. Gregory W. Schmitz Sr., 94, of Prairie du Rocher, died Feb. 19, 2006, in Red Bud. He was born Aug. 17, 1911, in Prairie du Rocher, the son of the late Henry and Annie Schmitz nee Kunkel. He married the late Helen M. Schmitz nee Doerge in 1936; she preceded him in death in 1998. Mr. Schmitz is survived by his son Greg “Butch” (Pauline) Schmitz Jr. of Red Bud, daughters Anna Marie Rudloff of Swansea, Fern (Delbert) Tockstein of Prairie du Rocher, and Viola Mennerich of Chester; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister Fern Pardee of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and seven siblings. Mr. Schmitz was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Renault. William L. Euge, 91, of Columbia, died Feb. 20, 2006, in Columbia. He was born May 11, 1914, in Vulcan, the son of the late Harriet and Magdalena Pauline Euge nee Deken. He was married to the late Alvera Euge nee Schellhardt; she preceded him in death in 2001. Mr. Euge is survived by his daughters Vera Jean Titsworth of Moro, and Judith A. Nolte of Columbia; grandchildren Lorie Nelson, Brian Titsworth, Susie Stinson, Larry A. Nolte and Donald Nolte; great-grandchildren Nicholas Nelson, Stephanie Nelson, Jennifer Stinson, Samantha Stinson, Kimberly Stinson and Robert D. Nolte; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son-in-law Joe A. Titsworth and grandson Martin A. Titsworth. Mr. Euge was retired from Dupo Lumber and Hardware, and from Central Hardware in St. Louis. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, reaching the level of sergeant. He was a member of the Dupo American Legion Post #485. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to ride horseback, hunt and fish. He enjoyed outings and spending time with his family. Visitation and funeral services were at Lawlor Funeral Home, Rev. Mike Garrison officiating. He is buried at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice.
