Melvin J. “Brownie” Deterding, 80, of Ruma, died Feb. 21, 2006, in Red Bud. He was born May 9, 1925, in Prairie du Rocher, the son of the late Louis and Mary Deterding nee Fausz. Mr. Deterding is survived by his brother Raymond (Fern) Deterding of Red Bud; sisters Genevieve (Alvin) Moeller of Red Bud, Fern Deterding of Waterloo, Doris Koch of Red Bud, and Audrey (Don) DuFrenne of Red Bud; sisters-in-law Bernice Hahn of Red Bud, Lucille Deterding of Red Bud, and Betty Slaughter of Red Bud; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Leo “But” Deterding, Harold Deterding and Paul Deterding; sister Hilda Ellner; and brothers-in-law Albert Ellner and Louis “Butch” Koch. Mr. Deterding was a retired farmer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #622 in Prairie du Rocher, and the Illinois and Randolph County Farm Bureaus. Sister Mary Ann Grosco, ASC, formerly known as Sister Jovita, 88, died Feb. 21, 2006, in Ruma. She was born May 13, 1917, in West Frankfort, the daughter of John and Mary Margaret Grosco nee Kerkes. Sr. Mary Ann is survived by her sisters Irene and Dolores, brother George, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Margaret and brother John. Sr. Mary Ann made her first vows in 1935 and her final profession in 1940. She graduated from St. Louis University with a bachelor’s degree and earned a master’s degree in education from St. John College in Cleveland, Ohio. She taught and / or served as principal in Prairie du Rocher, Bartelso, Waterloo, at Pius X High School in Festus, Mo., Mater Dei High School in Breese and St. Elizabeth’s in East St. Louis.
Daniel Mark DeMay, 21, of Waterloo, died Feb. 21, 2006, in St. Louis. He was born Jan. 8, 1985, in St. Louis, the son of Dennis (Jennifer nee Kinane) DeMay of Waterloo, and Barbara (Lloyd) Anderson nee Keen of Cedar Hill, Mo. He is survived by his parents; half-siblings Kristy Schumer of Grubville, Mo., Gabrielle DeMay of Florida, Mick Fischer of Cedar Hill, Mo., Andrea Reynolds of St. Louis, Melanie DeMay of Wisconsin, Justin DeMay of Waterloo, and Jessica Kinane of Waterloo; step-grandparents Nell Anderson of Eureka, Mo., and John and Judy Kinane of Columbia; and special friend Kelly Goforth of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Albert and Marjorie DeMay, and Ann and Earl Keen, and step-grandfather Cecil Anderson. Mr. DeMay was a carpet installer. He had also been involved in the Boy Scouts organization, of which he was very proud. Visitation and funeral services were at DeFabio Funeral Home, Pastor Darrell Jones officiating. He is buried at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Madonnaville.
Elizabeth “Betty” McAnern nee Lenhardt, 61, of Las Vegas, formerly of Waterloo, died Feb. 25, 2006, in Las Vegas. She was born April 29, 1944, the daughter of Grace Lenhardt nee Muskopf of Waterloo. She was married to Richard H. McAnern. Mrs. McAnern is survived by her mother; husband; daughter Michelle (Marco) Calavita of El Cerrito, Calif.; granddaughter Elizabeth May Calavita; brother David (Bridget) Lenhardt of St. Louis; sisters-in-law Miriam Goodspeed of Florida, Ginger Betts of California, and Carol McAnern of California; brothers-in-law David McAnern of California and George McAnern of California; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father and brother Robert Lenhardt Jr. Mrs. McAnern had been a teacher at Rancho High School and Gibson Middle School. She grew up in Waterloo and moved to Las Vegas 38 years ago after graduating from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She is remembered for her warmth, grace and good humor, her generous and caring spirit, her loving devotion to family and friends, and for touching the lives of many students. Flora M. Clamors nee Webelhuth, 98, of Waterloo, died Feb. 25, 2006, in Red Bud. She was born Feb. 27, 1907, in Affton, Mo., the daughter of the late William and Annie Webelhuth nee Pruetzel. She was married to the late John E. Clamors. Mrs. Clamors is survived by her son Arnold (Helen) Clamors of Waterloo; grandchildren John (Amanda) Clamors of Topsham, Maine, Barbara (David) Drescher of Waterloo, Rodney (Lisa) Clamors of Waterloo, Dennis (Dawn) Clamors of Smithton, and Gerald (Jori) Clamors of Leawood, Kan.; great-grandchildren Justin Clamors, Denise Clamors and Dennis Clamors II; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Arlene Clamors, sister Ella A. Schroeder, brother Fred Webelhuth Sr., and nephew Fred Webelhuth Jr. Mrs. Clamors was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo; she was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Des Peres, Mo. She was also a member of Immanuel Ladies Aid, New Design Homemakers, senior Volunteer Program and Senior Citizens Club. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Marvin S. “Marv” Harman, 63, of St. Genevieve County, died Feb. 26, 2006, in St. Genevieve County. He was married to Barbara Harman. Mr. Harman is survived by his mother Leona Roderique; wife; daughters Jennifer Surdyke of Festus, Mo., and Amanda A. Suttmueller of Perry, Ga.; sons Fred M. Harman of Colorado Springs, Colo., Martin P. Harman of Festus, Mo., Benjamin D. Harman, Tremayne Harman and D. Zachary Harman, all of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., and Tarik I. Harman and Brock M. Roberts, both of St. Clair, Mo.; 21 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Harman was a former high school teacher and basketball coach before entering the newspaper business. He owned and operated the Ste. Genevieve Herald, and after its sale he worked in various capacities with several newspapers, including the Suburban Journals. He was also the first economic director of Ste. Genevieve County, serving from 1999 until he became ill in late 2005. Mr. Harman was a member of the Ste. Genevieve Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and Jaycees, the Lions Club and the Missouri River Heritage Association. He received awards from the Missouri Press Association and distinguished service awards from both the St. Clair and Sullivan chambers of commerce. Robert H. Brinkmann, 84, of Waterloo, died February 27, 2006, in St. Louis. He was born June 11, 1921, in Waterloo, the son of the late Henry A. and Frieda Brinkmann nee Welzbacher. He was married to Margaret M. Brinkmann nee Vogt. Mr. Brinkmann is survived by his wife; children Anne (Steve) Candler of Maeystown, Janice (Dave) Holdener of Waterloo, Kathy (Darrell) Hitzemann of Leesburg, Va., Dorothy (Paul) Mollet of Murphysboro, Joseph (Liz) Brinkmann of Johannesburg, South Africa, and John Brinkmann of Waterloo; grandchildren Angela Candler Manning, Jennifer Candler Seidler, Sarah Candler Thieret, Jessica Holdener, David Holdener, Kyle Holdener, Lauren Holdener, William Hitzemann, Daniel Hitzemann, Anna Hitzemann, Christopher Mollet, Brian Mollet, Michelle Mollet Calvert, Rory Brinkmann, Trevor Brinkmann, Robert Brinkmann and Nicholas Brinkmann; great-grandchildren Griffin Seidler, Logan Seidler, Sophie Seidler and Logan Calvert; brothers Ermin (Valeda) Brinkmann of Waterloo, and Paul (Carol) Brinkmann of Waterloo; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Glenn A. Keim, 79, of Waterloo, died Feb. 27, 2006, in Waterloo. He was born Sept. 22, 1926, in Waterloo, the son of the late August Louis and Louise Keim nee Kopp. He was married to Theresa Lerch Keim nee Marquardt. Mr. Keim is survived by his wife; children Mark (Debbie) Keim of Waterloo, Jerry (JoAnn) Keim of Cutler, Marcia (Mike) Kreher of Waterloo, Denis Keim of Waterloo, Lynn (Stan) Hope of Beaverton, Ore., Joel Keim of Waterloo, and Matthew (Tracy) Keim of Red Bud; step-children Joan (Jim) Birke of Red Bud, and Tim (Shelly) Lerch of Waterloo; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Ruth C. Keim nee Reis; brothers Freeman J. Keim and Leroy Keim; and step-daughter Jane Lerch. Mr. Keim was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ. He was a former board member of St. Paul Evangelical Burial Park. He retired from Metzger Equipment Company. He was a member of Metzger-Crook VFW Post 6504. He was a former Scout Master of Troop 369, and was a former member of the Waterloo Planning Commission. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Myrtle M. Taake nee Meyer, 73, of Waterloo, died January 1, 2006, in St. Louis. She was born February 14, 1932, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Louis and Hilda Meyer nee Vasel. She was married to Burton Taake. Mr. Taake is survived by her husband; sons Marvin (Patricia) Taake of Waterloo, Larry Taake of St. Louis, Ronald (Althea) Taake of Waterloo, and Wayne (Lisa) Taake of Waterloo; grandchildren Chad (fiancee Natalie Baxmeyer) Taake, Krista Taake, Anna (Kevin) Guebert, Andrew Taake, Adam Taake, Adrian Taake, Emily Taake, and Griffin Taake; sisters Evelyn (Erwin) Walter of St. Louis, and Eleanor (Norman) Koch of Arnold, Mo.; sisters-in-law Rosalie Meyer of Arnold, Carol Taake of Belleville, and Arlene (Leslie) Stumpf of Columbia; and aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary F. Prange nee Jaeger, 83, of Waterloo, died January 1, 2006, in Belleville. She was born August 28, 1922, in Waterloo, the daughter of the late Walter and Aleda Jaeger nee Rosemann. She was married to the late Elmer J. Prange. Mrs. Prange is survived by her children John R. (Shayne) Prange of Morrison, William F. (Angela) Prange of Waterloo, Mark J. (Theresa) Prange of St. Louis, and Christine (Curt) Miller of Waterloo; grandchildren Stephen Prange, Brian Prange, Laura Prange, Brandy Prange, Nicholas Prange, Brittany Prange, Jennifer Prange, Jack Prange, Alex Prange, Cory Miller and Casey Miller; sister Dorothy (Joe) Viola of Chicago; brother-in-law Bob Bigalow of Minnesota; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son James Prange, sister Genevieve Bigalow and brother Robert Jaeger. Mrs. Prange was a member of Ss.
