Henry Edwin Spier, 58, of Belleville, died Sept. 2, 2013, at Barnes Jewish Medical Center. He was born Sept. 21, 1954 in East St Louis, the son of the late Charles and Cleta (nee Miller) Spier. Mr. Spier is survived by dear friend, Sandy of Belleville; brother, Lawrence (Virginia) Spier of Columbia; sister-in-law, Charlene Spier of Dupo; along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, William “Bill” Howard, and Robert Spier. Henry was an operator at Cerro Copper in Sauget, and had been a volunteer with the Dupo EMS. There were no public services. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Carol M. Wilhelm, nee Heuckroth, 89, of Waterloo, died Sept. 5, 2013, in St. Louis. She was born Dec. 22, 1923 in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Wm. Ernest and Vera (nee Seckler) Heuckroth. Mrs. Wilhelm is survived by her children Deborah (Bruce) Cummins, Susan Wilhelm and Steven (Christine) Wilhelm; grandchildren Catherine (Michael) Bess, James B. Cummins, Alyssa Wilhelm and Matthew Wilhelm; and a great-grandson, Evan Bess; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Wilhelm. Mrs. Wilhelm was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. She was a member of Gateway Waves International, the Red Hats Society, Monroe County Home Extension and the Jennings Lady Lion's Auxiliary. Carol was a Campfire Girl Leader, Cub Scout Leader and resident of Oak Hill. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Friz officiating. Mrs. Wilhelm was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
John J. Kearns Jr., 73, of Waterloo, died Sept. 4, 2013 in Waterloo. He was born Oct. 23, 1939, in St. Louis, the son of Florence Kearns and the late John J. Kearns, Sr. Besides his mother, Mr. Kearns is survived by his wife, Mary (nee Kuhlmann) Kearns; children, John (Shannon) Kearns III, Timothy (Anita) Kearns and Kathleen Matthes; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emily, John IV "Jack" and Daniel Kearns, Katherine, Ross and Abigail Kearns and Nicole, Margaret and Meredith Matthes; great-granddaughter Olivia; his brother, Thomas (Carole) Kearns; and a sister, Florence Volz; along with sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Kearns attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo. He was a member of the Waterloo Rotary Club. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Ron Weber officiating. Mr. Kearns was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to the SS. Linda Marie Lewis, 56, died Sept. 6, 2013. She was born May 25, 1956 in St. Louis and had lived in Waterloo and Hoover, Ala. Mrs. Lewis is survived by her husband of 34 years, Steven R. Lewis; daughter, Catherine (Zachariah) Kesterson; grandson, Nathan-iel; sons, Patrick (Taylor) Steven and Scott Robert; her parents, Eugene and Carol Scott; a brother, Gene Scott (Alice); sisters, Christine (Doug) Banes and Sharon (Scott) Colona; mother-in-law, Betty Lewis; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Totland; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. While living in Waterloo, Mrs. Lewis was an executive assistant for the police department. She attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo where she taught Sunday school and religion classes. Linda also served as the president of the Morrison-Talbott Library Board and she was also an active supporter of the special needs community. Visitation and funeral were at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover, Ala. Mrs. Lewis was buried at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis. Kenneth P. Zeiger, 61, of Red Bud, formerly of Prairie du Rocher, died Sept. 7, 2013, at Red Bud Regional Hospital following a heart attack. He was born March 22, 1952, in Red Bud, the son of the late Herman and Bernice (nee Hergenroeder) Zeiger. Mr. Zeiger is survived by his sons, Kevin Zeiger, Brian (Emily) Zeiger, Dustin Baron and Cody Baron; grandchildren, Kerrigan and Sophia; and siblings, James (Mary Ellen) Zeiger, Richard (friend, Patty Cissell) Zeiger, Ruth Ann (Bill) Gallagher, Mary (friend, Gerald Whelan) Steibel; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Zeiger, sister-in-law, Joyce Zeiger; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Steibel; along with aunts, uncles and cousins. Mr. Zeiger was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Tower Rock Stone Co. of St. Genevieve, Mo. Visitation was at Koch-Liefer Funeral Home in Red Bud. Funeral was at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Renault with Father Roger Karban officiating. Mr. Zeiger was buried at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Renault.
Elaine Carr, nee Rehmer, 75, of Waterloo, died Sept. 9, 2013, in Waterloo. She was born Oct. 7, 1937, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Clarence and Irma (nee Dinga) Rehmer. Mrs. Carr is survived by her husband, Thomas D. Carr; sons, Jay (Pattie) Carr and Derek (Jenny) Carr; grandchildren, Jania and Julia Carr, Bradley Hoffmann, Summer Kolmer and Thomas J. Carr; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Willard Krebel, Pam and Ronnie Bode, Wallace and Lois Carr, Howard and Bert Carr and Dee Carr; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by brother, Roger Rehmer; a sister, Linda L. Krebel; and a sister in infancy, Melvina Mae Rehmer. Mrs. Carr attended Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in the Bible class. She was a former accountant for Metzger Equipment. Elaine enjoyed playing bridge and kloepper, being a grandmother and was a holiday enthusiast. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo with Pastor Matt Clark and Pastor Tony Troup officiating. Mrs. Carr was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery. Shirley A. McFadin, nee Knopfel, 64, of Fults, died Sept. 10, 2013, in Columbia. She was born Aug. 16, 1949, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Hazel (nee Hann) Knopfel. Mrs. McFadin is survived by her husband, Larry McFadin; children, James Avetta (fiance Yissel Batista), Lorie Avetta, Kim Reid (fiance Keath Hausher), Kelly (Donald) Rothrock, Cindy (Doyle) Woehlke and Gary (Thresa) McFadin; grandchildren, Parker Reid, Carter Reid, Anthony Amos, Anna Amos, Angela Allen and Gianna Avetta; a brother, Larry (Carol) Knopfel; and a sister-in-law, Bev Knopfel. Ronald M. Barrett, 72, of Belleville, died on Sept. 16, 2013. He was born March 10, 1941 in East St. Louis, the son of the late Leonard and Agnes (Campbell) Barrett. Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife, Linda Barrett of Belleville; daughters, Sheryl (Bob) Ragsdale of East Carondelet; and Dana (Charlie Sadler) Barrett of Cahokia; four grandchildren ; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward (Peggy) Barrett of Glen Carbon and Dennis Barrett of Canon City, CO. He was preceded in death by sons, James and Michael Barrett and grandson, Adam Barrett. Mr. Barrett was a retired switchman for the Alton and Southern Railroad. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Philip J. Mueller, 87, of Waterloo, died Sept. 12, 2013 in Waterloo. He was born July 14, 1926 in St. Louis, the son of the late Philip and Mary (nee Wendling) Mueller. Mr. Mueller is survived by his daughters, Jenna (Roger) Michalsen and Holly (Ray) Kaplan; grandchildren, Ted (Kate) Michalsen, Hannah Michalsen, Elyssa Kaplan and Harrison Kaplan; great-grandchildren, Elias and Benjamin Michalsen; sister, Louise Gremmels; brother, Paul (Mary) Mueller; sister-in-law, Bernell Fischer; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mathew Mueller. Mr. Mueller attended St. Paul UCC. He was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge 787 and the Ainad Shriners. Phillip was a former office manager at Monroe Service Co. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor James Watson officiating. LaRue Trent, nee Aycock, 95, of Waterloo, died Sept. 2, 2013 in Waterloo. She was born Nov. 16, 1917 in Tennessee, the daughter of the late Wayne and Edna (nee Phillips) Aycock. Mrs. Trent is survived by a son, Richard (Kathleen) Trent; grandchildren, Angela (Joe) Kreienheder, Tracy Trent and Joshua (Christina) Trent; great-grandchildren, Clayton and Paige Ritchie, Audra, Mitchell and Taylor Scheibe, Kaleigh Trent and Ashley Rogerson; great-great-grandchild, Nicoli Penn; and brothers, Printice "Bill" (Gloria) Aycock and Ray Harold (Jackie) Aycock. She was preceded in death by her brother Wilburn Aycock. Mrs. Trent volunteered at the Monroe County Nursing Home and Oak Hill for more than 25 years. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Darrell Weber officiating. Mrs. Trent was buried at the Waterloo City Cemetery.
