A. Thomas Walter, 101, of Waterloo, died Aug. 10, 2013 in Belleville. He was born Sept. 7, 1911 in Lenzburg, the son of the late Henry and Lena (nee Frech) Walter. Mr. Walter is survived by his daughter, Sharon Quernheim; grandchildren, Todd (Tracy) Quernheim and Sheila (Job) Sandoval; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Benjamin and Andrew Quernheim, and Tyler and Shane Sandoval; and a sister, Ruch Becker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene (nee Scher) K. Walter; son-in-law, Paul A. Quernheim; and sisters, Fern Adamson and Violet Newman; along with nieces and nephews. Mr. Walter was a member of St. Paul UCC in Waterloo, Morris Lodge AF & AM 787, Scottish Rite and the Shrine. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Friz officiating. Timothy J. Prader, 52, of Dupo, died Aug. 11, 2013 at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis. He was born Feb. 16, 1961, in East St. Louis, the son of Patrick Prader Sr. and Jean (nee Grasshaw) Lindhorst. Besides his parents, Mr. Prader is survived by his daughter, Ashley Prader of Paris, Tenn.; and siblings Pat (Tobie) Prader of Evansville, Lori (Lawrence) Moallankamp of Columbia, Jim (Sue) Prader of Waterloo, Chris (Kelli) Prader of Indianapolis, Steven (Leah) Lindhorst of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Toni (Rich) Elder of Freeburg, Susan Lindhorst of St. Louis, Lori (Brian) Chopin of Mandeville, La., and Sherri Champagne of New Orleans; along with nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Tim was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 513 B, and worked with Spirtus Wrecking Co. Visitation and funeral were at Lawlor Funeral Home in Columbia. Florence Kathryn Raglin, nee York, 86, of Columbia, died July 31, 2013 at Columbia Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born June 25, 1927, in White County, the daughter of the late Gilbert and Lula (nee Robley) York. Mrs. Raglin married Clyde A. Raglin in 1947 in Carmi. He died in 2005. Mrs. Raglin is survived by her children, Mark (Lisa) Raglin of St. Louis, Lynne (Terry) Davidson of Leola, Penn. and Roger (Teresa) Raglin of Columbia; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gerald (Louise) York of Enfield. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Gary Wayne Raglin. Mrs. Raglin attended St. Paul UCC in Columbia. She was active with the Columbia American Legion Auxiliary Post 581, Columbia Gymnastic Association Auxiliary and the Columbia Senior Citizens. Visitation and funeral were at Lawlor Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. Mrs. Raglin was buried at the Kuykendall Cemetery in Carmi. Joseph W. Oggero, 71, of Waterloo, died July 26, 2013, in St. Louis, Mo. He was born Nov. 28, 1941, in East St. Louis, the son of the late Joseph M. and Dorothy (nee Goudey) Oggero. Mr. Oggero is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gloria (nee Wrobel) Oggero; children, Kimberly Lynn (Kris) Huels and Christopher (Nancie) Oggero; grandchildren, Karson Huels, Kayla Huels, Kaden Huels, Vincent Oggero and Elena Oggero; a brother, Jeff (Linda) Oggero; God-child, Nathan Holliday; sisters-in-law, Darlene (Russ) Horsley and Cheryl (Sam) Gretter; and favorite pet, Snowflake; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Oggero attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Oggero and his family frequently vacationed in Destin, Fla. Joe was a member of the Waterloo Country Club and enjoyed playing golf with his family and friends. Some of his favorite memories were getting his father-in-law, Bill Wrobel, brother-in-law, Russ Horsley, and his dad to play golf and replaying the game again and again on the 19th hole. For the last seven winters (January through March), Joe lived in Welaka, Fla., where he enjoyed the warm weather and once again playing the 19th hole with his golf friends and Snowflake at the Tiki Restaurant. Adele H. Valentine, nee Horn, 83, of Waterloo, died July 20, 2013, in Waterloo. She was born Oct. 2, 1929, in Red Bud, the daughter of the late John G. and Louise M. (nee Nottmeier) Horn. Mrs. Valentine is survived by a son, David Valentine; and grandchildren, John and Alex Valentine; along with a sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Erdmann Valentine. Mrs. Valentine graduated from Waterloo High School and then Brown's Business and Secretarial College in St. Louis. She was employed as a secretary for the Formica Corporation Division of American Cyanamid. Adele was a charter member and past president of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered in the outpatient department of the hospital. She was also a lifelong member of Deaconess Society, Red Bud Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Monroe County Farm Bureau, Monroe County Home Extension and the Waterloo Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Valentine attended St. Paul UCC. She was active with the Women’s Guild, and also taught Sunday School and Vacation Church School for 35 years. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at her church with Pastor Gerry Proctor officiating. Memorials may be made to her church, the Belleville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or the American Heart Association.
Norene Albert, nee Schlesinger, 90, a lifelong resident of Millstadt, died July 18, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. She was born April 19, 1923, in Millstadt, the daughter of the late Walter and Elenora (nee Baltz) Schlesinger. Norene married Howard Albert in 1976. He died in 1995. Mrs. Albert is survived by her step-children, Judy (Richard) Sutter of Millstadt, David (Connie) Albert of Colorado Springs, Colo., and William (Carol) Albert of Millstadt; grandchildren, Chris (Andrea) Sutter of Johnston City, Tenn., Joan (William) Launius of Millstadt, Katherine (Scott) Schneider of Anchorage, Alaska, Rebecca Albert of Colorado Springs, Colo., Margaret Albert of Denver, Colo., Lori (Patrick) Kieffaber of Franklin, Tenn., Eric (Yvonne) Albert of Woodland Hills, Calif., Sara (Seth) Hoffman of Lone Tree, Colo., and Teri (Brent) Reynolds of Overland Park, Kan.; and nieces and nephews, Tom O. Mueth of Millstadt, Lynn (William) Meyerchak of LaCanada Flintridge, Calif., Richard (Karla) Schlesinger of Prairie du Rocher, Charles (Kari) Schlesinger of Belleville, David Schlesinger of Freeburg and Laura (Steve) Klingeman of Tilden. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marion Mueth; and brother, Walter Schlesinger. Mrs. Albert was employed for 23 years as the secretary/treasurer for the Millstadt Consolidated School. She attended Zion Evangelical Church where she was involved in the Women’s Fellowship. Raymond Lee Walker, 84, of Columbia, died July 19, 2013, at Delmar Gardens South in St. Louis. He was born Oct. 17, 1928, in East St. Louis the son of the late Lyman and Pearl (nee Johnston) Walker. Raymond married Dorothy (nee Dorn) Walker in Aug. 7, 1950, in Fairmont City. She died in July 12, 2013. Mr. Walker is survived by his daughter, Patresa (Albert, Jr.) Kish of Columbia; granddaughters, Emily (Chet) Waver of New York, Courtney Kish of Philadelphia, Penn., and Rebecca Walker-May of Atlanta, Ga.; a great-granddaughter, Rosie Rae Waver; brother, Robert Walker of Millstadt; sisters, Mary Evelyn Barbee of Belleville and Verna (Jim) Smith of Fairview Heights; and sisters-in-law, Carol Walker and Louise Walker. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Dianna Lynn May, and brothers, James, Edward, Freeman and Kenneth Walker. Mr. Walker served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a retired supervisor from Ball Glass Company in Lincoln. Raymond had formerly been employed for Obear-Nester Glass in East. St. Louis. Louis A. Bode, 70, of Waterloo, died July 20, 2013, in Waterloo. He was born Sept. 26, 1942, in East St. Louis, the son of the late Calvin and Floramye (nee Ries) Bode. Mr. Bode is survived by his wife, Ellen (nee Nobbe) Bode; a son, Nathan (Carrie) Bode; grandchildren, Lexus, Gage and Peyton Bode; and brothers, Dale (Jeanene) Bode and Ronald (Pam) Bode; along with brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his step-mother, June Fritchley Bode. Mr. Bode was an owner of the Waterloo Lumber Co. Delores A. Modglin, nee Sczurek, 79, of Waterloo, died July 20, 2013, in Waterloo, the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (nee Urban) Sczurek. Mrs. Modglin is survived by her children, Don (Catherine) Modglin and Cynthia Modglin; grandchildren, Fernando Valero, Julie (Bryan) Flatley, Vernon (Allison) Modglin, David Modglin, Benjamin Rongey and Alex Rongey; and a great-grandson, Ayden Flatley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon A. Modglin; and a daughter, Michele Rongey. Mrs. Modglin attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. “Modge” was a longtime employee of Gibault Catholic High School, an always familiar face in the cafeteria. She also was a janior at the Monroe County Fairgrounds. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Osang Idagbo. Mrs. Modglin was buried at the church’s cemetery. Vivian Louise Suchman, 81, of Columbia, died July 20, 2013, at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis. She was born Oct. 18, 1931, in Sandridge, the daughter of the late Ross and Millie (nee McBride) Morris. Vivian married Gabriel I. Suchman in 1953 in Ava. In addition to her husband, Mr. Suchman is survived by her children, Randy (Elizabeth) Suchman of Belleville and Brenda (Marvin) Denison of Columbia; grandchildren, Jeremy (Kelley) Suchman, Ryan Hamilton, Travis (Mandy) Denison, Drew (Jenny) Denison, Brandon (Kelly) Suchman, Ross Suchman, Alana Suchman and Lydia Suchman; great-grandchildren, Kathryn, Andrea, Wyatt, Gabrielle, Isabelle, Bryce, Landon, Juliana, Sydney, Ava, Lacey (Michael), Tristen, Logan, and Jason; a brother, LeRoy (Mary) Morris; sisters-in-law, Loretta and Norma Suchman and Mary (Bill) Walker; and a brother-in-law, Simon Suchman. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Clementine Schuessler, Bernadine Francin and Roma Lee Brown. Mrs. Suchman attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia. She had been employed as a medical assistant for 30 years with Dr. Edilberto Maglasang. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia with Father Carl Scherrer officiating. Mrs. Suchman was buried at the Ava-Evergreen Cemetery in Ava.
