John “Jack” Brady, 89, of St. Louis, died June 19, 2013. He was born June 7, 1924, the son of the late Thomas and Alice (nee Murphy) Brady. He was married to Jane (nee Reinschmidt) Brady. She preceded him in death. Mr. Brady is survived by his children Mary C. (Bob) Kuhn, Michael J. (Nancy) Brady, J. Daniel (Anne Conrad) Brady, James G. (Chris) Brady and Anne T. Rooney (Harry) Mathews; grandchildren Emily and Julie Kuhn, John and Danny, Margaret Jane and Brenna Brady; step-grandchildren, Bridgette Kelly, Kevin Dolan, Tiffany Verzino and Tanya Fagaly Hull; and siblings, Richard “Dick” Brady, Kathryn Brady, CSJ, Alice (Charles) Sargent and Virginia (Kenneth) Bauer; along with brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip (Dorothy) Brady. Visitation and funeral were at the Little Flower Catholic Church in St. Louis. Erin M. Schneider, 17, died June 27, 2013, in Columbia. She was born Dec. 29, 1995, in St. Louis, the daughter of Kenneth Jr. and Shelly Schneider. In addition to her parents, Miss Schneider is survived by a brother, Nathaniel (Kelly) Reinhold; grandparents, Loretta Rodenberg, and Kenneth, Sr. and Rebecca Schneider; and aunts and uncles, Brenda Mentel, Sandy (Ron) Julian, Rick (Karen) Rodenberg, Tom (Suzanne) Schneider and Matt (Karen) Schneider; along with cousins, great-aunts and great-uncles. She was preceded in death by a brother in infancy, Zachary Schneider; grandfather, Marvin Rodenberg; and her great-grandparents. Erin was a member of the Columbia High School Class of 2014. Dennis W. Fassel, 62, of Columbia, died June 27, 2013, from a heart attack while at work for the City of Columbia. He was born May 17, 1951 in East St. Louis, the son of Mary Fassel and the late Virgil Fassel. In addition to his mother, Mr. Fassel is survived by his wife, Linda (nee Newton) Naumann; a son, Christopher (Patricia Bull) Fassel of Columbia; daughter, Cara (Wayne) Pulcher of Columbia; step-son, John (Lorrie) Naumann of Waterloo; step-daughter, Angela (James) White of O'Fallon; 14 grandchildren; and brothers, Rodney (Cathy) Fassel of Columbia and Kevin Fassel of Herrin. Mr. Fassel served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Columbia American Legion Post 581. He was employed with the City of Columbia’s water department. He was active with the Columbia Gymnastic Association (Turners) and was a retired member of the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department. Visitation is Sunday, July 14, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Paul UCC in Columbia. Funeral will follow with Pastor Kristofer Avise-Rouse officiating. Mr. Fassel was cremated according to his wishes. Bernice Winkelman, 81, of Steeleville, died June 22, 2013, at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis. She was born Sept. 29, 1931, in Red Bud, the daughter of the late Ambrose and Irene (nee Kelley) Doyle. Mrs. Winkelman is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Winkelman of Steeleville; children, Dan (Joyce) Reitz of Steeleville, Rich (Kelly) Reitz of Steeleville, Diana (Gary) Farley of Steeleville, Gary (Glenda) Reitz of Percy, Darryl (Phyllis) Winkelman of Steeleville and Cheryl (Mike) Haberberger of Chester; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Dardanella Doyle of Waterloo and Marcella Doyle of Granite City. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Winkelman attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Willisville. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star in Steeleville, White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Steeleville Lions Club (she was the first female president), the St. Joseph's Altar Sodality, Randolph County Home Extension, the Card Club, volunteered at the Randolph County Court House and was active in numerous community organizations. Visitation was at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville. Funeral was at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Willisville with Father Leo J. Hayes officiating. She was buried at Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville. Memorials may be made to her church, the American Cancer Society or the Missouri Baptist Family Assist Program.
Evan Richard and Lydia Ruth Kelley passed peacefully in the arms of their loving parents on June 18, 2013. The twins were born June 14, 2013, to Phillip and Angela (nee Powell) Kelley of Waterloo, and baptized with beauty and grace. In addition to their parents, Evan and Lydia are survived by grandparents, Dave and Julie Powell and Rich and Celeste Kelley; great-grandparents, Patsy Powell and Jeannette Kelly; an uncle, James Powell; aunt, Natasha Kelley; and cousins Isabella Meadors and Samuel Ries. Virginia M. Presson, nee Gash, 81, of Columbia, formerly of Granite City, died June 20, 2012, at Columbia Rehab. She was born Dec. 14, 1931 in St. Louis,, the daughter of the late George and Mary (nee Stewart) Gash. Mrs. Presson is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Heine of Columbia and Hazel Helton of Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Mrs. Presson was retired from Rockwell International. There were no public services.
Grover George Scharf, 84,of Millstadt, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012 at Belleville Healthcare and Rehab Center. He was born March 31, 1927 in Centreville the son of the late William Conrad and Ida Louise (nee Schuff) Scharf. Mr. Scharf is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marion (nee Wehmeier) Scharf; a daughter, Cheryl (Charlie) Mueth of Millstadt; and a sister, Virginia Scharf; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by brothers Melvin Scharf and William E. Scharf; and sisters Myrtle Wirth, Marion Pfeffer, Mildred Wells, Lillian Otten and Helen Plant. Mr. Scharf was the owner/operator of Westview Auto Body for 25 years, retiring in 1993. He attended Concordia United Church of Christ in Belleville. Grover was a member of the Ainad Shrine, Columbia Blue Lodge Masonic Lodge 474 A.F. and A.M., Bluff Grange, LePere School Board and a charter member of the Millstadt Lions Club. Visitation and funeral were at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt with Rev. David Krueger officiating. Mr. Scharf will be buried at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville. Ronny Wisdom, 63, of Waterloo, died Jan. 5, 2012 in Town and County, Mo. He was born April 14, 1948, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., the son of the late Memphis Roman and Ruth Imogene (nee McCallister) Wisdom. Mr. Wisdom is survived by his children, Ronny (Kristine) Wisdom II and Shannon (David) Schultheis; grandchildren, Elise (Danny) Mollet, David A. (Amanda) Schultheis, Katelin Wisdom and Anna Schultheis; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Jazmyn, Damien, Emma and Khloe; and special friend, Bernice Meadors; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dovie (nee Wilkerson) Wisdom; and brothers Ray Wisdom and Tommy Wisdom. Mr. Wisdom was a retired firefighter at Scott Air Force Base. He was a member of Metzger-Crook VFW Post 6504 in Waterloo and a former volunteer with the Waterloo Fire Department. Visitation is Sunday, Jan. 8, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Eleanora Faust, 92, of Columbia, died Jan. 7, 2012 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville. She was born June 2, 1919 in New Hanover, the daughter of the late Fred and Rose (nee Dotzauer) Mehrtens. Eleanora married Herman Faust in 1947. He died in 1999. Mrs. Faust is survived by her daughter, Carol Jean Faust of Columbia; sisters-in-law Ruby Faust of Columbia and Dorothy Huelsman of Citrus Springs, Fla.; and nieces and nephews Rose Anne Bense, Karen Mehrtens, Nancy Prather, Roger Mehrtens, David Mehrtens, Rev. Dr. Robert Koch, Diane Hanna and Michael Faust; along with other nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and cousins. Mrs. Faust attended St. Paul UCC in Columbia. She was a local farmer and homemaker. Visitation is Monday, Jan. 9, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral is Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul UCC in Columbia with Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. Mrs. Faust will be buried at the Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery. Walter Gerald “Bill” McCrosky, 100, of Rochester, Ind., died Jan. 10, 2012 at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis. He was born Nov. 29, 1911, the son of the late Harley and Birdella Mogle McCrosky. Mr. McCrosky is survived by a son, Dr. Don (Lois) McCrosky of Waterloo; daughter, Julia (Jan) Baas of Berthoud, Colo.; grandchildren Chad Baas, David McCrosky, Rob Baas and Melinda Oatman, all of Colorado, and Laura Berkerey of Waterloo; and seven great-grandchildren. Bill graduated from Fulton High School in 1929 and attended a Purdue Agriculture Short Course. He married Charlotte Jewell in 1942. She died in 2011. Mr. McCrosky attended Grace United Methodist Church and Lend-A-Hand Sunday school class. He was a retired farmer who lived 100 years in Liberty Township, Ind. Bill was a 79-year member of the Fulton Masonic Lodge for 79 years. The lodge honored him in 1983 for 50 years of membership and in 2008 for his 75th anniversary. Mr. McCrosky was a member of the South Bend Scottish Rite Lodge and the Fort Wayne Mizpah Shrine. He was a former board member of the Fulton County Soil and Water Conservation District. After the passing of his wife, Mr. McCrosky moved to a nursing home in Waterloo. A celebration of the life ceremony will be Monday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m., at Good Family Funeral Home in Rochester, Ind., with Rev. Maurice Grindle officiating. Mr. McCrosky will be buried at the IOOF Cemetery in Rochester, Ind.
