Cora Newbill, nee Donohue, 92, of Columbia, died June 19, 2013, at Delmar Gardens South in St. Louis.She was born July 21, 1920, in Ruma, the daughter of the late Martin and Ann (nee Humphrey) Donohue. She married Robert M. Newbill in 1946 in East St. Louis. He died in 1974. Mrs. Newbill is survived by her sons, Maurice (Brenda) Newbill of Fenton, Mo., and Bob (Stefanie) Newbill of Peoria; a grandchild, Melissa Newbill; and a great-grandchild, Dylan Newbill; along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Newbill operated a beauty shop from her home for more than 60 years. She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia. There were no public serves. Mrs. Newbill was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to her church.
Emeline Riebeling, nee Sanders, 87, of Waterloo, died June 26, 2013, in St. Louis, Mo. She was born Oct. 28, 1925 in East Carondelet, the daughter of the late Charles and Frances (nee Euge) Sanders. Mrs. Riebeling is survived by her grandchildren; friends Terri Krebel and William Reagan; and her pet, Max; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer H. Eckert Sr.; second husband, Herbert B. Riebeling; sons Elmer H. Eckert Jr., Charles V. Eckert and Walter Bob Eckert. Mrs. Riebeling was a member of the Waterloo VFW. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Nancy Spier-Lee officiating. Vernon L. Wickell, 84, of Millstadt, died June 26, 2013, at his residence. He was born Oct. 3, 1928, in Revere, Mo., the Elmer and Mary (nee James) Wickell. Mr. Wickell is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arlene (nee Weis) Wickell; , children, Jeffrey (Susan) Wickell of Belleville, Verlene Wyatt of Millstadt, Alan Wickell of Millstadt and Bradley (Bette) Wickell of Millstadt; grandchildren Ashleigh Wickell and Elise Wickell; step-grandchildren Brandon Finn and Bradley Dilley; sister-in-law; and four sisters. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Wyatt; and three sisters. Mr. Wickell served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Millstadt and was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 1997. Visitation and funeral were at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Kumm and Rev. Todd Wilkin officiating. Mr. Wickell was buried with full military honors at Mount Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt. Memorials may be made to his church or the Millstadt Senior Center.
Kenneth E. Edwards, 70, of Columbia, died June 26, 2013, in Columbia. He was born Nov. 15, 1942, in Earth, Tex., the son of the late Kenneth Eugene Edwards and Lillie Mae (Snead) Davis. Kenneth married Linda (nee Fischer) Edwards in 1966 in Dupo. In addition to his wife, Mr. Edwards is survived by a son, Sean Edwards of Columbia; daughters Jocelyn (Timothy) Schmidt of Aledo, Tex., and Maryann Nicole Edwards of Columbia; grandchildren, Garrett, Zaine, and Olivia Schmidt; sisters Linda Sue Covey of China, Janice (Richard) Mead of Cat Spring, Tex., and Jane Edwards of Houston, Tex.; a brother, Glenn (Patty) Edwards of Dallas, Tex.; sisters-in-law Loretta (Pete) Gold of East Carondelet and Mary Fischer of Dupo. He was preceded in death by brothers Eugene (Rose) Edwards and Lanny Edwards; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Lindley. Mr. Edwards was a member of United Auto Workers Union, and the Texas Cherokee Nation. He had retired as a repairman with General Motors Corp. in Wentzville, Mo. Visitation and funeral were at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral with the Rev. Joe Haney officiating. James W. Maag, 49, of Waterloo, died June 18, 2013, from injuries sustained while working on his vehicle. He was born Feb. 16, 1964, in Red Bud, the son of Marian (nee Orrell) Maag and the late John Edward Maag. Besides his mother, Mr. Maag is survived by his wife, Wendy (nee Buettner) Maag; children Leah Maag and John Maag; a sister, Linda (Coleman) Morse; brothers Thomas (Lorrie) Maag and David (Cris) Maag; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Lyle (Chris) Buettner and Renee (H. Doug) Minton; and an aunt, Jane Hagedorn; along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his father, Mr. Maag was preceded in death by his in-laws, Lloyd and Barbara Buettner. Mr. Maag attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo. He was employed at Dial Corporation in St. Louis. James was a member of the Teamsters Local 618 and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Katherine A. Ruby, nee Morrison, 84, of St. Louis, died June 16, 2013, in Fenton, Mo. She was born Oct. 25, 1928, in West Frankfurt, the daughter of the late James and Olga (nee Kartis) Morrison. Mrs. Ruby is survived by her children, Donna (Michael) Chapman, Joanne Yakopovic and Richard Ruby; grandchildren Cristopher Chapman, Kelly (Michael) Cherhan, Greg Trimble, Jennifer Yakopovic and Christina Yakopovic; great-granddaughters Harley Chapman and Amelia Cherhan; and a sister, Rose Herrero; alone with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by; husband, Gregory F. Ruby; sisters Josephine Bradley, Marg Lamb and Louise Schneider; and a brother, James T. Morrison. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Bryan C. Taylor, 37, of Waterloo, died June 30, 2013, in Waterloo following an automobile accident. He was born, March 4, 1976, in Highland. Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Stacy (nee Williamson) Taylor; his mother, Donna (Vincent) Gibbs; children, Derek Scott Taylor and Landon Joseph Taylor; sisters Amanda Taylor, Angela Lesiewicz and Diane (Randy) Rayburn; a brother, Bobby Taylor; step-brothers Brian (Buffy) Gibbs and Jeffrey (Jeanette) Gibbs; and pets Bear and Bruno; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. Mabel A. Siegel, nee Mueller, 87, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Waterloo, died June 29, 2013, in Jenks, Okla. She was born May 29, 1926, in Waterloo, the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Emma (nee Heinrich) Mueller. Mrs. Siegel is survived by her children, Christine (Michael) Kroeger and Cynthia (Phillip) Berry; grandchildren John (Vickie) White, Jennifer (Jim) Wright, Brad (Jeannette) Kroeger, Stephen Kroeger, Madeline Berry and Carl Berry; and great-grandchildren Aiden White, Jacob White, Will Wright, Nate Wright and Katherine Kroeger; She was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Siegel; a daughter in infancy, Laura Ann Siegel; daughter, Catherine White; sister, Pearl Cole; and a brother, Norman Mueller. Nancy Jean Simmonds, 73, of Millstadt, died June 4, 2013, at Memorial Convalescent Center in Belleville. She was born Oct. 10, 1939, in Belleville, daughter of her the late Ralph and Floy (nee Kennedy) Simmonds, Sr. Mrs. Simmonds is survived by her brother, Kenneth (Pat) Simmonds; sisters, Barbara (Bill) Heil, Carol (Frank) Albers and Patty Dillon; brother-in-law, William Maserang; nieces and nephews;, Daniel Maserang, Julie Acker, Tom Simmonds, Ginette Kern, Gary Simmonds, Larry Simmonds, Eric Ude, Dana Reno, Darren Ude, Angela Murrell, Pamela Case and Kelly Miller; and friends Karen Peters and Sandy Weber. She was preceded in death by her sister, Rosemary Maserang; and her brother, Ralph Simmonds,Jr. Nancy attended Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge Chapter 53. Visitation and funeral were at Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt with Rev. Darrell Weber officiating. Joseph D. Haven Jr., 81, of Columbia, died June 4, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis. He was born May 17, 1932, in Detroit, Mich., the son of the late Joseph and Gladys, nee White, Haven, Sr. Mr. Haven is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty (nee Hubbs) Haven; children, Joseph Haven III, Janis Schneider and Michelle Haven; grandchildren, Joseph Haven IV, Daniel Haven, Andrew Haven, Mekenzie Schneider and Zachary Haven; and great-grandchild, Noah Haven. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Haven; brother, Charles Haven; and sisters Pauline Kniga and Shirley Lewis. Mr. Haven was the owner of Haven Glass Company. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in East Carondelet, the Dupo VFW Post 6368 and the Confederate Air Force. Visitation and funeral were at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in East Carondelet with Pastor Ryan Fouts officiating. Mr. Haven was buried with full military honors at the Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery.
