Edith Pottoff Campbell, nee Heyl, 94, of Waterloo, died May 27, 2013. She was born Dec. 31, 1918 in Waterloo, the daughter of the late William Christopher and Emma Sophia (nee Homrighausen) Heyl. Mrs. Campbell is survived by her children, William J. Pottoff and Nancy E. Pottoff; step-children,Judy (John) Wirth, Thomas (Karen) Campbell and James (Beth) Campbell; grandchildren, Pete Pottoff Weil, William Emerson Pottoff and John Pottoff Weil; step-grandchildren, John Douglas Wirth, Michael Emerson Campbell and Joseph Daniel Campbell; step-great-grandchildren, Kristopher Runner, Jamie Runner Schilling, Rachael Wirth and Hayden Campbell; and step-great-great-grandchildren, Kaiden Runner, Delaney Schilling and Aubrey Schilling; along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great-nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Erwin "Pete" Pottoff; second husband, Emerson J. Campbell; sisters, Esther Nance and Ruth Rasche; and a brother, Roland Heyl. Mrs. Campbell attended St. Paul UCC of Waterloo where she was involved with the Women's Evening Guild and Sunday School. She was a retired teacher and a member of the Waterloo Retired Teachers Association, the Illinois Education Association and the Waterloo Country Club. Edith also served as a vice-president of Commercial State Bank, a secretary for the Waterloo Lumber Company. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at St. Paul UCC in Waterloo with Pastor Geraldine Proctor officiating. Mrs. Campbell was buried at the Kolmer Memorial Cemetery. David E. Quernheim, 83, of Waterloo, died May 26, 2013. He was born April 9, 1930, in Waterloo, the son of the late Emil and Hulda (nee Hartman) Quernheim. Mr. Quernheim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wanda (nee Vogt) Quernheim; children, Michael (Jane) Quernheim, Lisa (Charles) Fuszner and Douglas (Nancy) Quernheim; grandchildren, Patrick and Rebecca Quernheim (fiancé Ethan Belanger); Katherine, John and James Fuszner; and Hannah and Jacob Quernheim; a sister, Margaret "Mitzie" Frederick; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sharon Quernheim, Clarence "Buddy" (Susan) Vogt and Joan (Robert) Hoffmann; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy "Pat" Voris; a brother, Paul Quernheim; and brothers-in-law, Robert Voris and Dr. Raymond Frederick. Mr. Quernheim served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a retired owner/operator of Quernheim Funeral Home. Melvin E. “Gene” Webb, 80, of Waterloo, died May 24, 2013. He was born July 21, 1932 in Scott City, Mo., the son of the late Roscoe and Vesta (nee Rendleman) Webb. Mr. Webb is survived by his wife, Beverly (nee Adams) Webb; sons, Mark Webb and Phillip (Tracy) Webb; grandchildren, Zachary Webb, Nicholas Webb, Rachel Webb, Lauren Webb, Brian Webb and Natalie Webb; and siblings Vera (Dick) Riley and Leroy Webb. He was preceded in death by infant twin daughters; brothers Charles, Glenn, John and William Webb; and sisters Mary McCully and Helen Corvick. Mr. Webb was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a retired senior research technician at Monsanto’s Sauget plant. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waterloo and the Waterloo American Legion Post 747. Gene enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodworking and volunteering for the Cape Girardeau Meals On Wheels. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at the First Baptist Church of Waterloo with Rev. Steve Neill officiating. Mr. Webb was buried at Lightner Cemetery in Scott City, Mo. Jane S. Aitken, 73, of Waterloo, died May 24, 2013. She was born Oct. 22, 1939, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Louis and Lyda (Shelton) Aitken. Ms. Aitken is survived by her sister, Nancy (Harvey) Vainer; along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Annette McRoberts; and a brother, Richard Aitken. Mrs. Aitken earned a Bachelor's Degree from the Boston Museum School. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Quernheim Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Michele J. Busby, nee Sanders, 54, of Waterloo, died May 29, 2013, in Waterloo. She was born Oct. 29, in East St. Louis, the daughter of Charles "Pete" Sanders and the late Margaret "Dee" Sanders. Besides her father, Mrs. Busby is survived by her husband, Stan E. Busby; sister, Renee Sanders; brother, Keith (Linda) Sanders; nieces and nephews PFC Corey Sanders, Ryan Sanders, Paige Sanders and Jeremy Sanders; and faithful companions Rascal and Max. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her sister, Deborah Sanders; and grandparents, Maurice and Lena Jerome, and Monroe and Delores Sanders. Elmer “Sonny” Naumann, 77, of Waterloo, died May 29, 2013, in St. Louis,He was born Oct. 31, 1935, in East St. Louis, the son of the late Elmer and Willetta (nee Bridges) Naumann. Mr. Naumann is survived by his children, David (Kathie) Naumann, Chris (Lisa) Naumann, Elaine (Kim) Naumann and Michelle (Lou) Miller; grandchildren, Jeff, Alex, Brent, Mallory and Gabrielle; and sisters, Shirley (Ed) Langhorst and Delores (Coleman) Ward. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Cowart; and grandsons, Zachary and Trevor Naumann. Mr. Naumann was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the Waterloo VFW and the Waterloo American Legion. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Father Roger Karban officiating. Mr. Naumann was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Rick Hoefft - Popular Maeystown restaurant and bar owner Rick Hoefft, 62, of Waterloo, died May 13, 2013, at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 17, 1950, the son of the late Sebastian and Marie (nee Pape) Hoefft. Mr. Hoefft is survived by his wife, Brenda Hoefft; children Kelly Hoefft, Benjamin Hoefft (Lindsey Keys) and Caine Hoefft (Kayla Kohler); step-daughter, Sydney Tojo; step-grandchildren Jase Tojo and Ignatius James; and a sister, Tammie (Carl) Rickenberg; along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Hoefft. Mr. Hoefft was a life member of Monroe County Retail Liquor Association, former member of Maeystown Fire Department, and former owner / operator of Hoefft’s Village Inn in downtown Maeystown. He retired from IDOT was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. In addition, Mr. Hoefft was well-known throughout the county and was a gifted conversationalist and skilled kloepper card player. He possessed the uncanny ability to remember people by name, a skill that made visitors to his bar and restaurant always feel welcome. Rick developed many lasting friendships wherever his life led him. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at St. John UCC in Maeystown, with Pastor Patrick Poole officiating. Marie R. Voelker, nee Mueller, 91, of Waterloo, died May 13, 2013. She was born Nov. 10, 1921, in Harrisonville, the daughter of the late George and Maria (nee Bertram) Mueller. Mrs. Voelker is survived by her husband, Wilbert O. C. Voelker; children Gary Voelker (Cena Pogue), Lennis (Kim) Voelker, Don (Jean) Voelker and Gene (Holly) Voelker; grandchildren, Denise Voelker, Andrew (Karen) Voelker, Adam (Jenny) Voelker, Austin Voelker, Alex (Anne) Voelker, Daniel Voelker, Brianna Voelker and Jada Voelker, Matthew (Lauren) Voelker and Mitchell Voelker (Bianca Doherty); great-grandchildren Logan and Dane Voelker, Reagan Posey, Kennedy Voelker and Aubrey and Wesley Voelker; and sisters-in-law Ada Mueller and Pearl Hirsch; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandson Eric Michael Voelker; sisters Frieda Voelker, Elizabeth Scariot and Ruth Fehrenz; and brothers Milton Mueller and Floyd Mueller. Mrs. Voelker attended Zion UCC in St. Joe where she was active in the Zion Women’s Fellowship. She was a member of the Monroe County Farm Bureau, and enjoyed bowling, kloepper, bingo, and rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Steve J. Kipping, 74, of Red Bud, died May 2, 2013, in Red Bud. He was born Feb. 21, 1939, in St. Louis, the son of the late Joseph and Grace (nee Andres) Kipping. Mr. Kipping is survived by his wife, Carol (nee Reed) Kipping; children, Kimberly (Bill) Roland, Stephanie Kipping (“Shorty” Menard) and Scott (Michele) Kipping; grandchildren, Heather (Brad), Nicole, Danielle (Rob), Cody (Brandy), Brandon (Brie), Heath (Allie) and Austianna; great-grandchildren, Kassidy, Jenna, Alexis, Zach, Hadley, Konner, Sophia, Evie, Bradley, Lizzie, Keegan and Greyson; sisters, Gloria (Leo) Thoma and Grace (Ted) Mitan; and brothers, Spencer Kipping and Stanford (Patricia) Kipping, Sr.; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Walter Bob Eckert, 58, of Waterloo, died May 3, 2013 in Red Bud. He was born Jan. 16, 1955 in Red Bud, the son of Emeline (nee Sanders) Riebeling and the late Elmer H. Eckert, Sr. In addition to his mother, Mr. Eckert is survived by his friends, William Reagan, Ronnie Brandt and Rodney Matzenbacher. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Elmer H. Eckert ,Jr. and Charles V. Eckert. Mr. Eckert was retired from Yellow Freight. He was a member of the Waterloo Odd Fellows and the Mascoutah Moose Lodge. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home.
