Alsace C. Muskopf, nee Wachtel, 77, of Hecker, died May 21, 2010 in Des Peres, Mo. She was born May 15, 1933 in Hecker, the daughter of the late Peter and Rosamond (nee Ganley) Wachtel. Mrs. Muskopf is survived by her children, Gloria (Richard) Harms, Sheila (Kelly) Litton and Pam (Scott) Voll; grandchildren Keith Harms, Jeremy Harms, Lisa Champ, Chad Litton and Jeff Litton; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Harms; and a brother, Leroy Wachtel; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband George D. Muskopf; daughter, Marsha Muskopf; and sisters Edna Haudrich, Mildred Eagles and Irma Newton. Mrs. Muskopf was a member of St. Augustine Church’s Altar Sodality and the Hecker Community Center. Visitation is Sunday, May 23, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Wilma Pearl Pirtle, nee Vance, 89, died May 24, 2010 in Columbia. She was born July 11, 1920 in Flat River, Mo., the daughter of Roy Herbert and Allie (nee McNail) Vance. Mrs. Pirtle is survived by her sons Gary (Victoria) Pirtle of Glen Ellyn and Herb Pirtle of Maplewood, Mo.; siblings Florence Schrum of Ocklawaha, Fla., Ruth (Boxie) Schrum of Iron Mountain Lake, Mo. and Leroy (Janie) Vance of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; and grandchildren Cheryl (Tom) O’Connor of Richmond Heights, Mo., Steven Pirtle of St. Louis, Mo. Alan (Cathy) Pirtle of Columbia, Christina (Clark) Plumb of Fenton, Mo., Roger (Layla) Pirtle of DuQuoin and Brian (Jana) Pirtle of Oklahoma City, Okla.; along with great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; cousins; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Pirtle; brothers Lloyd “Joe” Vance and Lowell “Jack” Vance; and daughters-in-law Sandra Pirtle, Rita Pirtle and Anna Pirtle. Wilma was elected the first mayor in the history of Iron Mountain Lake, Mo. She also owned various businesses with her husband. Visitation is at Shipman Funeral Home in Bismarck, Mo. on Thursday, May 27, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. A graveside service will immediately follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Bismarck, Mo.
Violet Gummersheimer, nee Rueck, 76, of Columbia, died May 24, 2010 in St. Louis, Mo. She was born Jan. 13, 1934, the daughter of the late Henry and Ida (nee Roth) Rueck. Mrs. Gummersheimer is survived by her children, Wayne (Laurie) Gummersheimer, Dale Gummersheimer and Roger (Kathy) Gummersheimer; grandchildren Cassie Zimmer, Beth (Jamie) Geoppo, Leslie (fiancé Peter Heutel) Gummersheimer, Benjamin Gummersheimer, Chelsea (fiancé Jon Mindrup) Gummersheimer, Heather Gummersheimer, Courtney Gummersheimer, Adam Gummersheimer, Deanne (Carlos) DelRosario and Bryan Gummersheimer; great-grandchildren Grace, Kayla, Isabella and Noah; sister, Laverne (Lyle) Hoffman; and sisters-in-law Leola Eichelmann and Sandy Gummersheimer; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Gummersheimer; a son, Leon Gummersheimer; and special friend, Norman Mehrtens. Mrs. Gummersheimer was a member of Monroe County Home Extension, St. Paul UCC of Columbia, and she enjoyed making wedding cakes and cookies. Leta Rae Bauer, 76, of Ruma, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Red Bud Regional Hospital. She was born March 7, 1934 in Modoc, the daughter of the Leo and Burnet (nee Brown) Robert. She married Gilbert Bauer in 1953 in Red Bud. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bauer is survived by her sons, Keith (Cindy) Bauer, Bruce (Mary) Bauer, James (Kathy) Bauer and David (Joy) Bauer of Red Bud and Tony (Amy) Bauer of Ruma; a brother, Leo Roy (Irene) Robert of Red Bud; special aunt, Lu Cowell of Red Bud; and grandchildren Joe, Jason, Justin, Megan, Alex, Michelle, Sarah, Chase, Hunter, Stefan and Erica; along with four great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Steven Bauer. Leta Rae worked for a short time at First State Bank in Red Bud and then was employed for 27 years as the head cook at Red Bud Elementary School. She was a very active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ruma, was an avid quilter at church and catered many meals at the parish center over the past 10 years. In addition, Leta Rae enjoyed taking her grandkids shopping and spending time with her family and friends. Visitation was at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud. Funeral was at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ruma with Msgr. Dennis Schaefer, Father Clyde Grogan and Father John J. Joyce officiating. Mrs. Bauer will be buried at the church’s cemetery. Patricia Ann Row, nee Dougherty, 78, of Waterloo, died April 1, 2010. She was born June 22, 1931 in Wilmar, Minn., the daughter of the late Clifton and Helen (nee Farley) Dougherty. Mrs. Row is survived by her husband, Russell Row Sr., whom she married in 1954; children Theresa Ann (George) Blasé, Thomas Edward (Pam) Row, Russell Lee (Patricia) Row Jr., Daniel James (Debra) Row, Susan Marie (Harry) Bode, Shawnn Rennee (Charles) Green and Kristen Mary (Davilla) Peifer; grandchildren Blake Robert Blase, Anna Carlene Row, Sara Jo Withers, Riley Gene Withers, Kyle Russell Row, Brett William Row, Nicholas Patrick Row, Dustin Leighton Row, Samuel Albert Row, Lucas Daniel Row, Shawnn Patrick Row, Lauren Duncan, Jason Lee Rheinecker, Aaron Michael Rheinecker, Philip Lee Rheinecker, Daniel Patrick Green, Russell Leighton Green, Joseph Charles Green, Sean Luke Green, Olivia Kathleen Peifer and Quinlin. Dolly Joyce James, nee Creely, 74, of Prairie du Rocher, died April 2, 2010. She was born Oct. 14, 1935 on a rowboat in the middle of the Mississippi to the late Charles and Romancie Marie (nee Sayge) Creely. Mrs. James is survived by her husband, Carl Clyde James; children Clifford James of Topeka, Kan., Debbie James of Topeka, Kan., Julie James of Connecticut, Charles James of Cahokia, Clyde James of Waterloo and Caro James of Prairie du Rocher; and a sister, Peggy Marshall of Lemay, Mo.; along with 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Eric James; and 11 brothers and sisters. Mrs. James was a homemaker. Dorothy E. Whelan, nee Reitz, 89, of Waterloo, died April 3, 2010. She was born March 14, 1921 in Waterloo, the daughter of the late George and Louisa (nee Hauptfleisch) Reitz. Mrs. Whelan is survived by her children, James "Red" (Judy) Whelan and Kenneth (Janet) Whelan; grandchildren Keith (Yanitza) Whelan, Tammy Whelan, Daniel Whelan, Brian (Kate) Whelan and Bradley (Jennifer) Whelan; great-grandchildren Ashley and Keith Jr., Matthew and Christopher Whelan, and Emily, Patrick and Rowan Whelan; sisters Bernice Church and Melba Ryan; brothers Earl Reitz and Don Reitz; and sister-in-law, Delma Reitz. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Whelan; sisters Jean Frank, Bernell Rehmer and Edith Castleberry; and a brother, Clarence Reitz. Lyle Burneal Henry, 84, of Waterloo, died April 7, 2010 at Oak Hill Nursing Home in Waterloo. He was born Sept. 29, 1925 in Esbon Kan., the third of four children to his late parents, Florence and Bert Henry. Mr. Henry is survived by his daughters Dianna Henry (Jerry Sipe) of Lawrence, Kan., Rhonda Henry (fiancé David Fleming) of Union, Mo., and Brenda (Charley) Roberts of Waterloo; grandchildren Michelle Gerent, Flint Rogers, Brie Rogers, Sean Gerant, Travis Roberts, Brandy Dodel, Destiny Conley, Joe P. Duever and John Duever; and great-grandchildren Grant Henry, Elise Dodel, Brandon Roberts, Justin Dodel and Logan Roberts; along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Lea Henry; daughter, Connie Gerant; siblings Alice Gregory, Leland Blain and Pearl Schroder. Mr. Henry and his wife Bonnie Henry shared the same birthday and were married on that date in 1944. He retired in 1995 from Central Mine Equipment on St. Louis as a field representation and a corporate pilot in with 26 years of service. A remembrance gathering for family, friends and care givers will be at Oak Hill Nursing Home in Waterloo on Friday, April 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Evelyn Grant (nee Beck), 85, of Fairfield, formerly of Dupo, died April 7, 2010 in Fairfield. She was born Nov. 3, 1924, the daughter of the late Frank and Clara (nee Watts) Beck. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Johnnie) Hoffee of Fairfield; a son, David (Hetty) Grant of Columbia; and grandchildren Julie Nobles, Elizabeth (Jeff) Booker, James (Jami) Hayes, Amy Hayes and Angela Grant; along with seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin D. Grant; daughter, Nancee Keys; brothers Charles and Bob Beck; and a sister, Dolores Mosbacher. Mrs. Grant was a retired bus driver for Dupo School District 196, a member of First Congregational Church, former President of the Dupo Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Rebecca Lodge and drove the senior bus and meals on wheels. Laura M. Chaklos , nee Painter, 42, of Red Bud, formerly of Belleville, died April 8, 2010 in rural Waterloo as a result of an automobile accident. She was born May 24, 1967 in Richmond, Va., the daughter of Keith and Therese (nee Obernuefemann) Painter. Mrs. Chaklos is survived by her son, Corey Chaklos of Red Bud; a granddaughter, Kydalyn Faith Demmin; special friend, Terry Morrissey of Columbia; her brother, Matthew (Wendy) Painter of Belleville; grandmother, Lillian (nee Hubert) Obernuefemann of Belleville; nephews Joshua and Jacob Painter of Belleville; and her dog, Opal; along with aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, Bradley M. Chaklos; grandfather, Jerome Obernueffemann; and grandparents S.E. and Mary Painter. Mrs. Chaklos was a nurse at St. Ann’s Nursing Home in Chester and Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta. Laura was a member of M.A.D.D.
