Joseph N. "Joey" Miller, 25, of Waterloo, died March 13, 2013, from injuries sustained in a car accident. He was born Nov. 5, 1987, in Belleville. Mr. Miller is survived by his daughter, Adalyn Miller; parents Larry (Angie) Miller and Rose (Rick) Schuermann; a sister, Erika (Jeff) Ramsdell; step-brothers Eric Schuermann and Jesse and Derek Ewing; step-sisters Stephanie Schuermann, Jennie (Mike) Tritch and Brittney Ewing; girlfriend, Jennifer Forshee; a niece, Khloe Ramsdell; and grandparents Mildred Taylor and Frank (Margaret) Miller; along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Joseph Taylor and Ruth Miller. Mr. Miller was employed at Dobbs Tire and Auto Center. He was a member of DriftSTL and the Midwest Off Road Jeep Association. Visitation is Friday, March 15, 2013, at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Neill officiating. Mr. Miller will be buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery. Dorotha Iris Vogt, nee Bloodsworth, 85, of Columbia, died March 10, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Medical Center. She was born April 29, 1927, in Princess Anne, Md., the daughter of the late Robert and Emma (nee Parker) Bloodsworth. Dorothy married William “Bill” Vogt in 1948. He died in 2007. Mrs. Vogt is survived by a sister, Ramona Brown of Fruitland, Md.; a niece, Donna Mears; nephew, Robert Brown; great-nieces Andrea and Melissa; and good friends Virginia Spier and Marilyn Frasure. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Bloodsworth. Mrs. Vogt attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia where she was an quilter. She was a member of Monroe County Home Extension and Columbia Senior Citizens. Dorothy was a retired clerk at the Bank of St. Louis. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia with Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. Mrs. Vogt was buried at her church’s cemetery. Shirley C. Cummins, nee Maze, 82, of Millstadt, died March 9, 2013, at Four Fountains Convalescent Center in Belleville. She was born Jan. 9, 1931, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Coy and Lena (nee Wilson) Maze. Mrs. Cummins is survived by her children, Rick Hughes (Diane) Cummins of Millstadt and Vickie (Dennis Davidson) Valentine of Millstadt; grandchildren Brian (Dawn) Conklin, Timothy (Amanda) Conklin, Jamie (Brad) Womack, Angela (Brent) Lantis, Amanda (Mike) Loy and Drew Valentine; a brother, Danny Maze of Antonia, Tex; and brothers-in-law, Ed Ellwood and Clark Cummins; along with five great-grandchildren with one on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Huitt Cummins; a daughter, Christine Marie Heise; a sister, Betty Ellwood; sister-in-law, Barbara Cummins; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter in infancy. Mrs. Cummins was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt. At Mrs. Cummins request, she was cremated and there were no services.
Laverne S. Schultheis, nee Prange, 82, of Prairie du Rocher, died March 8, 2013 in Red Bud. She was born Feb. 10, 1931, in Fults, the daughter of the late Adolph and Hilda (nee Nagel) Prange. Mrs. Schultheis is survived by her children, Ronald (Suzanne) Schultheis, Kenneth (Sandra) Schultheis, Donald Schultheis (friend Kathy Weber), Doris (Steven) Mosbacher and Robert (Karen) Schultheis; a sister-in-law, Vera Schultheis; and a brother-in-law, Lylburn Nevois; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Schultheis; a grandson, Jesse Schultheis; and a sister, Erlene Nevois. Mrs. Schultheis attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Renault. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Renault with Pastor Ralph E. Laufer. Mrs. Schultheis was buried at the church’s cemetery. George R. Doerr, 73, of Waterloo, died Feb. 6, 2013, in St. Louis, Mo. He was born July 11, 1939, in Columbia, the son of the late William and Frieda (nee Vogt) Doerr. Mr. Doerr is survived by his wife, Barbara (nee Frazer) Doerr; children Tina (George) Schwellensattl, Teresa (Michael) Sands, Rodney (Shelly) Doerr and Tracy (Tom) Gartzke; grandchildren Stephanie (Leroy) Sands, Amber (Charles) Hinterthuer, Adam Piat, Emily Schwellensattl and Gabriel Gartzke; great-grandchildren Leroy, Samantha, Katlyn, Andrew, Nathan Sands, Madison Piat and Victoria Flach; siblings Dorothy Arras, Helen Pflueger, Kenneth (Verna) Doerr, Eugene (Sue) Doerr and Gary (Barbara) Doerr; and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Rita Wilson and Sharyn (Clarence) Klosterman; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Eddie Piat; and a sister, Luella Spinks; along with a step-sister and step-brothers. Mr. Doerr was a retired Teamster with Local 50. Marian R. Schlemmer, nee Breuer, 87 of Columbia, died March 1, 2013, at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. She was born March 15, 1925, in Dupo, the daughter of the late Henry and Viola (nee Nolte) Breuer. Mrs. Schlemmer is survived by her children, Deanna (Don) Hall, Carole (John) Crum and Patricia (Don) Baker; grandchildren, James (Klare) Marzano, Jana (Brian) Birdwell, Andrew Crum, Aaron Crum, Kyle Baker, Katie Baker and Krista Baker; great-grandchildren, Lorenzo Marzano and Charles and Henry Birdwell; sisters, Esther (Adam) Mernick and Florence (Ralph) Brown; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Range and Laverne Remelius; along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Schlemmer. Mrs. Schlemmer was a homemaker. She also had worked along with her husband in the real estate field and as a farmer. Mary Ann Hoffmann, nee Darden, 94, of Columbia, died March 2, 2013, at Oak Hill Care Center. She was born July 27, 1918, in Piedmont, Mo., the daughter of the late William and Ada (nee Pipkin) Darden. Mrs. Hoffmann is survived by her son, James (Janet) Hoffmann of Columbia; grandchildren, Beth Hoffmann of Columbia and Cathie (Monte) Krueger of Columbia; great-grandchildren, Brock and Thomas; and Godchildren, Rodney Fassel, Brian Darden and Sharon Brockmeier; along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Melva E. Martin; brothers, Carl P. Darden and Howard Pipkin; and a Godchild, Gary Hoffmann. Pearl A. Stechmesser, nee Rusteberg, 91, of Waterloo, died March 2, 2013, in Waterloo. She was born Nov. 3, 1921, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late William and Adelheit (nee Jehling) Rusteberg. Mrs. Stechmesser is survived by her son, Arlin (Diane) Stechmesser; grandchildren, Shane (Leanna) Stechmesser and Brad (Christine) Stechmesser; step-granddaughter, Amy Elder; and great-grandchildren, Nikolas, Christian, Olivia, Garret and Gracie Stechmesser; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin J. Stechmesser. Mrs. Stechmesser attended St. John UCC in Valmeyer. She was a member of the Waterloo VFW Auxiliary. Charles Lewis Michels, 67 of Millstadt, died March 2, 2013, at Jefferson Barracks Hospice Center in St. Louis. He was born Oct. 14, 1945, in Olney, the son of the late Joseph and Mamie (nee Messer) Michels. Mr. Michels is survived by his wife of 17 years, Deanna (nee Wilson) Michels; children, Rodney (Susan) Michels, Kimberly (Bradley) Alexander, Lynsey (Andrew) Honegger and Ryan Hudak; grandchildren Brandan Michels, Gunnar Michels, Reid Bowen, Peyton Alexander, Parker Alexander and Ainsley Honegger; and brothers, Tom (Leann) Michels and Terry (Joyce) Michels. Mr. Michels was employed as a motor coach driver at Holiday Tours, Inc. in Caseyville and a bus driver for the Millstadt Community School District. He was a member of the Olney AF and AM 140 Masonic Lodge, Shriner’s and Christ Church in Fairview Heights. Visitation and funeral were at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt with Rev. Larry R. Diehl, 68, of Waterloo, died March 4, 2013, in Belleville. He was born Feb. 14, 1945, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Mary Diehl and the late Carl Diehl, Jr. In addition to his mother, Mr. Diehl is survived by his children, Denise (Peter) Reed, Dean Diehl and Doug Diehl; grandchildren, Jonah and Emma Reed; brother, Paul (Barb) Diehl; and a sister, Nancy (Tony) Dixon; along with nieces, nephews and cousins.
