Orlou Marie Becker, nee Vogt, 83, of Waterloo, died Feb. 28, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Medical Center. She was born Jan. 4, 1930, in Monroe County, the daughter of the late John and Clorildis (nee Reuter) Vogt. Orlou married Lester Becker in 1948. He preceded her in death. Mr. Becker is survived by her children, Linda (John) Young of Waterloo, Sandy (Mike) Stirnaman of Belleville, Patty (John) Doty of rural Red Bud and Dennis Becker of Waterloo; grandchildren, Nicole (Andrew) Doeschot of Fenton, Mo., Adam Young of Edwardsville, Lee Doty of Waterloo, Gordon (Rachel) Doty of Red Bud, Paul (Tia) Doty of Waterloo and Katy Doty of Millstadt; and great-grandchildren, Tanisha Doty, Kayleight Doty and Kassi Doty, all of Waterloo; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Visitation was at DeFabio Funeral Home. Funeral was at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Rob Weber officiating. Mrs. Becker was buried at the church’s cemetery.
Dorothy F. Foster, nee Schwartz, 92, of Columbia, died Feb. 16, 2013, at Columbia Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born Jan. 28, 1921, in North Dupo, the daughter of the late Walter and Frieda (nee Deken) Schwartz. She married Harvey Foster in 1937. He died in 1986. Mrs. Foster is survived by her sons, Harlan (Barbara) Foster of Columbia and Dennis (Judith) Foster of Waterloo; a daughter, Darlene Winter of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Craig (Karen) Foster, Deborah (Lou) Casole, Bridget (Billy) Gray, Amanda Littlejohn, Christie Winter and Julie Winter; a sister, Patsy Jackson of St. Louis, Mo.; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation and funeral were at Lawlor Funeral Home. Mrs. Foster was buried at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of St. Louis.
Edward H. McClung, 82, of Waterloo, died Feb. 18, 2013 in Red Bud. He was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Frederick, Okla., the son of the late Henry and Pearl (nee Leach) McClung. Mr. McClung is survived by his wife, Pat (Francisco) McClung; children, LaWanda (Raymond) Thomas, James (Debra) McClung, Leah (Kenneth) McFadden and Melody (Michael) Ennis; grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan and Jonathan Hood, Chet Crawford, Crissy Wallace, and Erin Spence, Blake, Trevor and Skylar Lampton, Sydney Young, Loren, Haley and Maxwell Ennis; great-grandchildren, Addison Wallace, Hope Elizabeth Spence and Trinity Ann Spenc; sister, Helen Loftin; and a nephew, Joe (Sharon) Joslin. He was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence McClung; and a sister, Ruby Williams. Mr. McClung was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a retired minister and had worked in insurance sales. Edward was a member of New Life Church in Waterloo. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at New Life Church with Pastor David Eckstadt officiating. Mr. McClung was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Clarence “Sonny” Koch, 77, of Fults, died Feb. 19, 2013, in Waterloo. He was born April 11, 1935, in Fults, the son of the late Henry and Florence (nee Schmieg) Koch. Mr. Koch is survived by his sister, Helen Wetzler; brother, Henry (Helen) Koch; and nieces and nephews, Randy (Robin) Wetzler, Ricky Wetzler, Shannon Edley (friend John Blandford) and Sheena (Jeremy) Pape; along with great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Koch; niece, Linda Wetzler; and great-niece, Megan Kay Wetzler. Mr. Koch was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Sonny was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Renault and was a retired welder and lift truck operator. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at his church with Pastor Ralph Laufer officiating. Mr. Koch was buried at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.
Lorraine B. Bennett, nee Piatt, 84, of St. Louis, died Feb. 21, 2013, in Red Bud. She was born Sept. 22, 1928, in Salem, Mo., the daughter of the late William and Anna (nee Counts) Piatt. Mrs. Bennett is survived by her daughter, Tammy (Kevin) Guehne of Red Bud; and grandchildren, Alan and Scott Guehne; along with brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Allen Scrivener. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Friz officiating. Leah M. Sanford, 28, of Columbia, died Feb. 20, 2013, at her home. She was born April 4, 1984, in Belleville, the daughter of Morril III and Nancy J. Sanford. In addition to her parents, Miss Sanford is survived by her son, Dylan Sanford; and a brother, Morrie Sanford; along with aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. Donald Ryan Szewczuk, 48, of Millstadt, died Feb. 21, 2013, at his residence. He was born April 11, 1964, in St. Louis the son of Ron and Betty Szewczuk. In addition to his parents, Mr. Szewczuk is survived by sisters, Deanna (Tony) Jaromin and Jennifer (Neal) Knapp; a niece, Mackenzie Jaromin; nephews, Easton Jaromin, Tristin Knapp and Riley Knapp; grandfather, Ralph (Alene) Mergelkamp; an uncle, Ronald Mergelkamp; and aunts, Lois Szewczuk and Nancy Mergelkamp; along with cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hilda (Earl) Veit, Louis (Irma) Szewczuk; and his uncle, Louis M. Szewczuk. Mr. Szewczuk was an accountant who worked at several local banks. Visitation and funeral were at Trinity Lutheran Church in Millstadt with Rev. Michael Kumm officiating. Mr. Szewczuk was buried at Mount Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt.
Forrest Dean Keim, 84, of Columbia, died Feb. 22, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. He was born Aug. 19, 1928, in Henry County, the son of the late Forrest and Helen (nee LaRue) Keim. Forrest married Marian (nee Menner) Keim in 1955 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia. In addition to his wife, Mr. Keim is survived by his daughter, Lori (Michael) Doerr of Columbia; grandchildren, Cory (Deidra) Doerr of Waterloo and Kyle (Danielle) Doerr of Freeburg; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Emelia Doerr; special family, Peggy, Allen, Meghan and Dakota Schutt of Waterloo; and a brother-in-law, Harold Nobbe of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Katherine (Leonard) Steining and Barbara Nobbe. Mr. Keim Dean attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia, where he had volunteered at ICS. He retired as a truck driver from Yellow Freight Systems, having 50 years’ experience in commercial truck driving. Mr. Keim was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree--Fr. Charles Hellrung Assembly 1529 in Waterloo, Knights of Columbus Third Degree--George R. Kutterer Council 6165 in Columbia, the Columbia American Legion Post 581 and Teamsters Local 600 of St. Louis. Dean was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and Gibault High School athletics. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia with Fr. Robert Menner and Fr. Gary Hogan officiating. Mr. Keim was buried at the church’s cemetery. Lonnie R. Dickerson, 68, of Waterloo, died Feb. 9, 2013, in St. Louis. He was born Nov. 25, 1944, in Waterloo, the son of the late Ted and Dolly (nee Worley) Dickerson. Mr. Dickerson is survived by his wife, Mildred (nee Light) Dickerson; children Donna Bartlett, Teresa Dickerson (fiancé Kevin Kahle), William (Karen) Dickerson, Winona (John) Wilson, Angie Dickerson and Julie Dickerson; grandchildren Angie, Joyce, Crystal, Kevin Jr., John III, Josh, Joseph, Jeremy, Justin, James, Angel and William III; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers Omen (Sue) Dickerson and Artis (Madelle) Dickerson; and a sister, Omea (Jerry) Baker; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers William and Ernie; nephew, Chad Dickerson; son-in-law, Allen Bartlett; sister-in-law, JoAnn Dickerson; and brother-in-law, Donald Light. Marian E. Hern, nee Hite, 89, of Waterloo, formerly of Columbia, died Feb. 2, 2013, in Belleville. She was born June 8, 1923, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary (nee Vanover) Hite. Mrs. Hern is survived by her children, Norman D. Hern, Sandra G. (John) Bicklein, Mary L. (Joseph) Limpert, Jean A. Schoiber, Joyce L. (Dante) Scaccianoce and Laura C. (Earl) Dotson; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Sieli; and sisters-in-law, Edith Hite and Lola Hite; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Norman C. Hern; grandson, James Brian Hern; brothers, Louis M. Hite (infant), Daniel L. Hite and David Hite; sisters, Mary Louise Hite (infant), Ruth Hite Smith, Juanita Hite Reeder, Uldine Hite Webb and Jackie Hite Tyree. Mrs. Hern attended the Assembly of God Church in Belleville, the New Life Club of St. Mathews United Methodist Church in Belleville and the Victory Full Gospel Church. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Raynaud and Pastor Billy Childress officiating. Mrs. Hern was buried at the St. John Cemetery in Fults.
