Eugene William Eckert, 95, of Millstadt, died Jan. 13, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. He was born Jan. 5, 1918, the son of the late Otto and Nora (nee Weible) Eckert. Mr. Eckert is survived by a son, Ronald “Fuzzy” Eckert; daughter, Donna Gaulrapp; grandchildren Lori Gaul Rapp and Marcia Twellman; and great-grandchildren Emily Twellman, Carson Allen and Katelyn Allen; along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Wilma (nee Schubert) Eckert; and a sister, Florence (John) Hartman. Mr. Eckert was a retired farmer who had also worked for the Millstadt Milling Company and the USDA. He served as a Millstadt election judge for many years. Mr. Eckert attended Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt and was a member of the Millstadt Horseshoe Club and the St. Clair County Farm Bureau. Visitation and funeral were at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt with Rev. Darrell Weber officiating. Mr. Eckert was buried at Mount Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt. Memorials may be made to his church’s Z- Team or to the Millstadt Senior Center.

Ellard Rieso, 84, of Columbia, died Jan. 13, 2013, at Delmar Gardens South in Sappington, Mo. He was born March 17, 1928, in Smithton, the son of the late Theophil Rieso and Irene (nee Biehl) Rieso Rock. Ellard married Lucille (nee Schlemmer) Rieso in 1950. In addition to his wife, Mr. Rieso is survived by his daughters Karen (Richard) Neff of Belleville and Kathy (Clancy) Richey of Columbia; and grandchildren Amanda and Zachary Neff, Cole and Connor Richey. Mr. Rieso served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was retired from Monsanto Chemical Corp., and he attended St. Paul UCC of Columbia. Ellard was a member of the Columbia American Legion Post 581 and the Monsanto Retirees Club Local 12. Visitation and funeral were at Lawlor Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. Mr. Rieso was buried at the Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia. Memorials may be made to the Columbia American Legion or to his church’s elevator fund.

Robert J. Krebel, 63, of rural Fults, died Jan. 13, 2013, at Red Bud Regional Hospital following a battle with lung cancer. He was born Nov. 30, 1949, in Red Bud, the son of the late William and Mary (nee Krack) Krebel. Mr. Krebel is survived by his wife, Judy (nee Fults) Krebel; children, Michael (Shannon) Krebel and Jenny (Nathan) Braun; a granddaughter, Mikayla Krebel; step-granddaughter, Alexandria Braun; sisters Delores (Jim) Patterson and Ann Marie (Mark) Laurent; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Helen Godare, Darlene (Ben) Yancey, Jerry (Patty) Fults and Cindy (Dave) Lutman; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by an infant sister; and a brother, Lawrence (Dorothy) Krebel. Mr. Krebel was veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a farmer and truck driver. Bob was a member of the Renault American Legion Post 1215 and the Monroe County Farm Bureau. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Patrick Poole officiating. Mr. Krebel was buried at the St. John Evangelical Cemetery in Fults. Memorials may be made to Fults’ Cedar Bluff Park or to the St. John Cemetery in Fults.

Curtis Kempf, 50, of Belleville, died Jan. 12, 2013, at his home. He was born Jan. 30, 1962, the son of the late Edward and Jessie (nee Taylor) Kempf. Mr. Kempf is survived by his brother, Charles Kempf; nephew, Adam Kempf; a sister-in-law, Gail (Robert) Lambert; close friend and cousin, Keith Kempf; and friend John Benson. Visitation is Saturday, Jan. 26, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Lawlor Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow with Pastor Shelton Peeler officiating. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Monroe County.

Eleanor Luella Garcia, nee Arndt, 89, of Waterloo, died Jan. 2, 2013, in Waterloo. She was born Sept. 25, 1923 in Black Jack, Mo., the daughter of the late Harold Gustav and Caroline Louise (nee Meier) Arndt. Mrs. Garcia is survived by her husband, Louis Garcia; a son, Bryan (fiancee Barbara Ries) Garcia; sisters-in-law, Anna Hesse, Olga (Hank) Davis and Geraldine Bedwell; and her loving companion, Sugar; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Garcia attended St. Paul UCC in Waterloo. Eleanor was a longtime Waterloo business owner and a former member of the Waterloo School Board. She was a member of the Waterloo Chamber of Commerce and the Belleville Board of Realtors (past-president). Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at St. Paul UCC in Waterloo with Pastor Keith Karau and Dr. Phil Silsby officiating. Mrs. Garcia was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association (Research at the Washington University School of Medicine).

Burton H. Stumpf, 96, of Waterloo, died Sept. 21, 2014 in Waterloo. He was born Sept. 10, 1918 in Columbia, the son of the late Edwin and Ida (nee Pieper) Stumpf. Mr. Stumpf is survived by his wife, Ruth (nee Faus) Stumpf; children David (Jean) Stumpf and Diane Stumpf (Arthur Sutton); grandchildren Peter Sutton, Sara Sutton and Katie (Ben) Hart; and great-grandchildren Lauren and Alex Hart; along with sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Warren Stumpf; and sister Irma Stumpf. Mr. Stumpf served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an agency manager for Country Financial’s Waterloo office for 30 years. After retiring in 1976, he operated a tool sharpening business at his home. Burton enjoyed reading, hunting, playing cards and gardening. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor R.J. Morgan officiating. Mr. Stumpf was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Monroe County Farm Bureau Foundation or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Scott R. Rodemich, 47, of Columbia, died Sept. 29, 2014 at Barnes Jewish Medical Center as he battled cancer. He was born March 28, 1967, in Belleville, the son of Marvin and Ruth Ann (nee Stumpf) Rodemich of rural Columbia. Scott married Julie (nee Counce) Rodemich in 1992 in Columbia. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Rodemich is survived by his children, Ryan Rodemich and Allison Rodemich; sister, Chris (Bill) Browne of Columbia; his in-laws, Bruce and Joanne (nee Schneeberger) Counce of Columbia; and sister-in-law, Robyn (Kevin) McCarty of Kildeer; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Scott was the owner and president of Marketicity in downtown Columbia. He was a member of the Monroe County Fair Board, TAB Peer Advisory Board of Business Owners, Monroe County Economic Development Council, the St. Louis Ag Club and the Oak Hill Board of Directors. Scott was a former FFA State Official and past FFA public speaking champion. Mr. Rodemich attended St. Paul UCC in Columbia. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf and kloepper. Visitation is Thursday, Oct. 2, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral is Friday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul UCC in Columbia with Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. Mr. Rodemich will be buried in the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rodemich Children's Fund, c/o the First National Bank of Waterloo.

Michael L. Eggemeyer, 63, of Waterloo, died Sept. 29, 2014 in St. Louis, Mo. He was born Sept. 16, 1951 in Sparta, the son of the late Raymond and Erna (nee Wittenborn) Eggemeyer. Mr. Eggemeyer is survived by his wife, Christine (nee Mormann) Eggemeyer; his brother, Dennis (Phyllis) Eggemeyer; and sisters Darlene Lawson, Evonne (Eddie) Duke and Judith Whittlinger; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Eggemeyer served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Private services were held. Quernheim Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Norman Walter Sheble, 57, of Dupo died Sept. 29, 2014. He was born July 28, 1957, in St. Louis, the son of the late Norman and Barbara Joan (nee Wilson) Sheble. Mr. Sheble is survived by his fiance, Arlene Hoffmann-Bommarito of Dupo; nephews Brian Sheble of Columbia, Christopher Sheble of Bismark, ND, and Steven Sheble of Columbia; a niece, Emily Sheble of Columbia; step-mother, Jeri Funk of Millstadt; step-brother, Ron Brown; and great-niece and great-nephew, Kennadie and Noah Sheble; along with cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Brian Sheble. Norm attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Columbia where he was a member of the parish council, an usher, parish photographer and did volunteer work. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 6165 - Third Degree, where he was the chancellor/webmaster. Norman was an IT employee with Yale Enforcement Services in Belleville. Visitation is Saturday, Oct. 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Immaculate Conception Church. A funeral will follow with Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. Mr. Sheble was cremated according to his wishes. Memorials may be made to the family for funeral expenses, or the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Immaculate Conception Church.

Sharon L. Quernheim, nee Walter, 78, of Waterloo, died Sept. 3, 2014 in St. Louis. She was born June 30, 1936, the daughter of the late A. Thomas and Irene (nee Scher) Walter. Mrs. Quernheim is survived by her children, Todd (Tracy) Quernheim and Sheila (Job) Sandoval; grandchildren, Alexander, Benjamin and Andrew Quernheim, and Tyler and Shane Sandoval; an aunt, Ruthie Becker. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Paul A. Quernheim. Mrs. Quernheim was a member St. Paul UCC – Waterloo and Eastern Star. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo, with Pastor Thelma Burgonio-Watson officiating. Burial was at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery.
