Jeffrey E. Mitchell, 93, of Waterloo, formerly of Mulkeytown, died July 20, 2014 at Oak Hill in Waterloo. Mr. Mitchell was born July 4, 1921 in Mulkeytown, the son of the late John Douglas and Gladys (nee Burkitt) Mitchell. Jeffrey married Rosalyn Wente in Christopher in 1946. She died in 1998. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his children, Karen (John) Moon of Champaign, Kathi (Robert) Emery of Waterloo and Clay (Rita) Mitchell of Cobden; grandchildren, Angie (Steve) Law of Denver, Colo., Rebecca Mitchell and Heidi Mitchell; and a great-grandchild, Jeffrey Honeycutt. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Mark Mitchell; and brothers Chester and Lester Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was stationed in the South Pacific. Jeffrey was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Mitchell retired from the Federal Land Bank’s St. Louis office in 1978 and returned to the family farm in rural Christopher. He was an avid hunter and devoted much time developing a wildlife habitat on his farm through food plots, wildlife cover and duck levees. Mr. Mitchell attended First Christian Church in Zeigler and was a former member of St. Paul UCC in Waterloo. A memorial service was Aug. 8, at Zeigler Christian Church in Ziegler.
Margaret Helen Corey, nee Colston, 87, of St. Louis, died July 22, 2014, in Fenton, Mo. She was born May 20, 1927, in East Prairie, Mo., the daughter of the late William Bethel and Minnie Lavenia (nee McMikle) Colston. Mrs. Corey is survived by her children, William (Nancy) Corey, Richard Wayne (Shirley) Corey, Kathleen Corey, Susan Davis and John (Barbara) Corey; grandchildren, Amy Offutt, Carrie Lium, Laurie Bain, Corey Wirth, Dana Stanley, Jill Morey, Brian Corey, Darrin Corey, Wesley Corey, Amanda Doty, Dennis Davis and Darren Davis; and sisters, Luella Baker and Marietta (Bob) Sprague; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth W. Corey; son-in-law, Floyd Davis; sister, Marie Likens; and brothers, N.J. "Sonny" Colston, Tilman Colston and Wesley Colston. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Carr officiating. Mrs. Corey was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Adella D. Hahn, 89, of Red Bud died July 25, 2014 in Waterloo. She was born Sept. 5, 1924 in Inez, Tex., the daughter of the late Phillip and Sophia Buzek, nee Kourtney. Mrs. Hahn is survived by daughters Evelyn (Sam) Brown, Alice (Roy) Proctor and Shirley (Don) Kleyer; a son, David (Carol) Hahn; sisters, Elsie Vanek and Mary Jedlicka; a brother, Victor (Frances) Buzek; and a daughter–in-law, Pat Hahn; along with grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Hahn; a son, Robert Hahn; great-grandson, Logan Proctor; a sister, Martha Rozeypal; and brothers, Rudolph, William and Louis Buzek. Adella attended St. John the Baptist Church in Red Bud. She was a former member of the American Legion, RSVP Senior Circle, a Babe Volunteer at school, the hospital auxiliary, a VA volunteer and the Waterloo Sportsman’s Club. She enjoyed her grandchildren, fishing, bingo, embroidery, quilting and flower gardening. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Fr. Clyde Grogan officiating. Mrs. Hahn was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oak Hill Activity Fund.
Beverly Ann Tedder, nee Gilmore, 72, of Waterloo, died July 15, 2014, in St. Louis. She was the daughter of the late Marvin and Beatrice (nee Lunsford) Jernigan. Mrs. Tedder is survived by her children, Keith (Lawana Hagston) Tedder, Teresa (Jeff) Parker and Ron (fiancée Kim Esker) Parker; grandchildren, Sandy Henley, Bryan (Katrina) Tedder, Eric (Erin) Parker, Ryan (Laura) Parker, Alicia Parker, Valaurie Parker, Jacob Parker, Zachary (Mercedes) Tedder, Nicole (fiancé Jared Smith) Tedder and Brandon Tedder; great-grandchildren, Madalyn Craft, Brielle Tedder, Gabriel Henley, Blake Parker, Reed Parker, Owen Tedder and Sylas Tedder; siblings, Betty Sue (Alfred) Brown, Voncille Elles, Linda (Ron) Barnett, Shirley (Derrell) Olyier and Fred (Dottie) Jernigan; her aunt, Willie Mae McLaney; and friend, Mary Gibbs; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry H. Tedder (married 29 years); and a brother, Johnny Jernigan. Mrs. Tedder was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Waterloo. Eric Matthew Boyer, 27, of Waterloo, died July 17 2014, in St. Louis. He was born Oct. 6, 1986, in Red Bud, the son of Rejona (Chad) Knobloch and Bruce (Patti) Boyer. Besides his parents, Mr. Boyer is survived by his daughters, Morgan Ann Boyer and Kolbie Lynn Boyer; siblings, Michael (Jessica) Boyer, Alexis Graves, Aaron Knobloch and Amanda Bequette; and grandparents, Roger Boyer, John Graves and Pearl Graves; along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary (nee Holt) Boyer; and uncles, Mark Graves and Paul Hoffmann. Mr. Boyer was employed through United Roofers Local No. 2 in St. Louis. Brian G. Baker, 62, of Columbia, died July 26, 2014, at St. Louis University Hospital from injuries sustained in a car accident earlier in the month. He was born July 18, 1952, in Geneva, the son of the late Robert M. and Irene E. (nee Kjell) Baker. Brian married JoAnn (nee Gregson) Baker in 1990 in Hecker. In addition to his wife, Mr. Baker is survived by a daughter, Wendi L. (Jerrod) Brownson of Alma, Mich.; a son, Warren L. Baker of Houston, Tex.; grandchildren, Thaddeus and Naomi Brownson; and siblings Craig (Kristine) Baker of Baton Rouge, La., Carol (Karl) Merbach of Rapid City, SD, and Gary (Rhonda) Baker of North Aurora; along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Virgil Gregson; and his brother, Ronald Baker.
Mr. Baker was a physical therapist at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. He was an active member of Hope Christian Church in Columbia, where he was an elder and a Bible study leader. Brian volunteered with Good Samaritan Ministries in Washington Park, joining his wife as she ministered to local youth. As a young man, Brian enjoyed swimming, marathon running, playing the guitar, and walking on his hands. As of late, he enjoyed walking with his wife, golf, movies, athletics, music, science, jokes and Bible study. A memorial service was Aug. 17, at Hope Christian Church with Pastor Darrell Jones officiating.

Janette E. Turner, nee Braun, 90, of Waterloo, died July 28, 2014 in St. Louis. She was born Feb. 14, 1924 in Dupo, the daughter of the late Aloysious Braun and Ruth Stoots. Mrs. Turner is survived by her children, Carron Bean, Cecilia (Roger) DeMond, Michael (Shirley) Turner, Jeannie (Gregory) Proffer and Pattie (Jay) Carr; a sister, Sister Mary Bernard Braun; a daughter-in-law, Pat Turner; a sister-in-law, Anne Turner; grandchildren, Gregory Bean, Angela (Robert) Conley, Christopher (Bernadette) Bean, Mathew (Erin) Bean, Jennifer Turner, James R. (Angel) Turner, Rebecca (Robb) Homolka, Elizabeth (James) Tutor, Daniel (Brittany) DeMond, Andrew DeMond, Caroline (Kyle) Donjon, Clayton (fiancée Danielle Laurent) Turner, Cole (Rachel) Proffer, Lauren (Frank) Weber, Jania Car (fiancée Dave Meyer) and Julia Carr; and great-grandchildren, Cory, Emma, Ethan, Lydia, Faith, Lillian, Caroline, Owen, Lila, Caitlyn, Cody, Jakob, Sara, Trent, Mason, Lucy, Avery, Sophie and Saylor; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Turner; a son, James B. Turner; a great-granddaughter, Abby Weber; and a brother, Arnold Braun. Mrs. Turner attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and the Waterloo Senior Citizens. She was an avid gardener and artist. Visitation was July 31 at Quernheim Funeral Home. Larry F. Mehrtens, 77, of Waterloo, died July 8, 2014 in St. Louis. He was born Aug. 28, 1936 in Valmeyer, the son of the late Alvin Sr. and Elsa (nee Loewe) Mehrtens. Mr. Mehrtens is survived by his wife, Mary (nee roy) Mehrtens; and a daughter, Missy (Wayne) Henry; along with a sister, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters. Mr. Mehrtens was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and was a member of the American Legion. He was retired from the Illinois Secretary of State Police, and was a former member of Valmeyer Jaycees. Private graveside services will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Helping Strays of Monroe County.
Gloria M. Kelley, nee Burbank, 87, of Fults died July 14, 2014 at Red Bud. She was born March 30, 1927 at Staten Island, N.Y. the daughter of the late Frank and Lucilia (nee Guertler) Burbank. Mrs. Kelley is survived by a son, Kenneth (Kathryn) Kelley; daughters, Lucy (Dwight) Clevenger, Kathleen Bjoran and Barbara Stratton; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Kelley; and a son-in-law, Larry Stratton. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Friz officiating. Mrs. Kelley was buried at Valhalla Cemetery.
Randy Warren Beitel, 62, of Ruma, died Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Red Bud Regional Hospital following a heart attack. He was born March 15, 1952 in Scottsbluff, Neb., the son of Warren Lyle and Evelyn Mae (nee McCart) Beitel. Besides his parents, Mr. Beitel is survived by his wife, Peggy Beitel; children Paul (Rania), Aaron (Jessica), Meghan (Travis), Stuart Beitel and Aaron (Cheri) Lange; siblings Ronald (Mary) Beitel, Gary Beitel, Terry Beitel and Daniel (Cindy) Beitel; and grandchildren Catherine, Erin, Christopher, Arlo, Lydia, Dade, Hartley, Corbin, Carter and Adalyn; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents Francis and Pearl (nee Holmes) Beitel, Cliff and Mae (nee Scott) McCart, in-laws Fritz and Adeline Eggemeyer; a son Eric Lange; and an brother in infancy. Mr. Beitel was a retired electrician for the IBEW Local 322. He owned the Ruma Mill. Randy was a member of Masonic Lodge 12 in Rock Springs, Wyo., the Monroe County Liquor Association and was the District Vice President of the ILBA Chapter 41. Visitation is Thursday, July 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud. A funeral will follow.
