Marilyn L. Gaido, nee Janson, 77, of Freeburg, died May 25, 2014, at her residence. She was born Sept. 14, 1936, in Belleville, the daughter of the late Elmer and Regina (nee Besse) Janson. Marilyn married Ernie Gaido in 1957. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Gaido is survived by her children, Terry (Tami) Gaido of Leonardtown, Md., Tom Gaido of Huntsville, Ala., Denise (Dean) Gauch of Freeburg and Cindy (Jerry) Dressler of St. Libory; brothers, James (June) Janson, Edward (Pam) Janson and Robert (Connie) Janson; sisters, Carolyn (Gene) Naumann, Joan (Tom) Herrmann and Jean Wienhoff; grandchildren, Josie (Jeff) Bailey, Sam Gaido, Luke Gaido, Dean (Chelsey) Gauch, Emily Gauch and Amy Dressler; a great-grandson, Owen Gauch; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Schobert and Helen Werner; along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jake Gaido; brothers, Paul and Joseph Janson; a sister, Rosie (Rudy) Freivogel); and a brother-in-law, Augie Werner. Marilyn was a loving homemaker, who enjoyed cooking, reading, sports, traveling, fishing, playing cards and her family. She graduated from St. Teresa's Academy in East St. Louis in 1954. Mrs. Gaido attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Freeburg, where she quilted, prepared funeral lunches and initiated the casserole and grocery program, as well as the coat and blanket program for the poor. Visitation and funeral were at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Freeburg with Father Mark Reyling officiating. Mrs. Gaido was buried at the church’s cemetery. Velma J. Marzano, nee Sumey, 89, of O'Fallon, Mo., formerly of Columbia, died May 25, 2014 at Delmar Gardens. She was born April 9, 1925, in Dunbar, Pa., the daughter of the late Harry Sumey and Ida (nee Bryner) Mallon. Velma married Arthur J. Marzano in 1940 in Dunpar. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Marzano is survived by her sons, James (Jacquie) Marzano of Dalworthington Gardens, Tex., Arthur (Betty) Marzano of Advance, NC, Gene (Sharon) Marzano of Marietta, Ga., and Michael (Lisa) Marzano of St. Charles, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Colleen Myers of Columbia. Velma attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia. Visitation and funeral were at Lawlor Funeral Home with Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. Roy P. Nobbe, 90, of Waterloo, died May 4, 2014, in Waterloo. He was born Jan. 10, 1924, in Valmeyer, the son of the late William and Frieda (nee Stemler) Nobbe. Mr. Nobbe is survived by his wife, Alice (nee Rabbermann) Nobbe; children Bonnie (Stanley) Marquardt and Dennis (Nancy) Nobbe; grandchildren Scott (Nicole) Marquardt, Angela (Tim) Williams, Bill Nobbe and Matt Nobbe; great-grandchildren Jacob, Joshua, Ryan, Evan, Rylee and Alyssa; a sister, Edna Rabbermann; and a sister-in-law Adele Vogt; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by brothers William and Louis Nobbe; a sister Esther Stumpf; and his twin sister Ruth Offermann. Eula Jean Bersche, 77, of Columbia, died May 8, 2014, at Garden Place of Columbia. She was born Nov. 5, 1936, in Modoc, the daughter of the late Ralph and Elizabeth (nee Barbeau) Bersche. Mrs. Bersche is survived by her sisters, twin Norma (Dan) Brauch of St. Peters, Mo., and Evola (Earl) Niermann of Columbia; and nieces and nephews, Dan II (Debbie) Brauch of St. Peters, Mo., Donald (Virginia) Brauch of Flower Mound, Tex., Dennis (Cindy) Niermann of Richardson, Tex., Jean Schneider of Waterloo, Joan (David) May of Waterloo and Tom (Roo) Niermann of Creve Coeur, Mo.; along with great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her fiancé, Rich Turnbough. Mrs. Bersche graduated from Oak Glade School in Modoc, then earned her diploma from Red Bud Community High School. She had worked in the office for different truck lines in St. Louis before moving to Columbia in 1989. Mrs. Bersche attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia, where she was active with the quilters and the Altar Society. She also quilted with the St. Paul UCC in Columbia. She enjoyed bowling, bingo and pinochle. Visitation was Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. Agnes Hartman, nee Hagger, 83, of Smithton, died May 7, 2014, in Waterloo. She was born Jan. 3, 1931 in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Anna (nee Whelan) Hagger. Mrs. Hartman is survived by her children, Suzanne (Kevin) Sweet, Gregory (Diane) Narez, David (Phyllis) Narez and Russell Narez; grandchildren, Aimee (Greg) Keithly, Jennifer (Tom) Shields, Emilee (Victor) Williams, Christy Narez, Sean Narez, Chris Narez, Devon Narez, Elton Narez, Krista Narez and Summer Narez; and great-grandchildren, Sophie Williams, Ava Pearl Keithly, Alaina Williams and Nola Jane Keithly. She was preceded in death by husband, Theodore R. Hartman; and a son, Randall Narez. Mrs. Hartman was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Forty & Eight. Audrie Christine Cobb, nee Cobb, 86 years of Dupo died July 11, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. She was born March 4, 1923, in Steele, Mo. Mrs. Cobb is survived by her children, Phyllis Stanberry and Rudy (Alice) Cobb, both of Dupo; grandchildren Tim (Deana) Stanberry of Dupo, Carol Wilkerson of Dupo, IL, Mark (Jenna) Stanberry of Chatham, Chris (Carla) Cobb of Waterloo, Melissa (Geno) Hoge of Cahokia and Hope (Phil) Robinson of Swansea; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Cobb; and her mother, Mary (Thompson) Webster. Mrs. Cobb was a member of Victory Fellowship Church in Waterloo. She was retired from the Caruthersville Drugstore in Caruthersville, Mo. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at the Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville, Mo. Wilfred Stratmann, 87, of Hecker died Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Red Bud Regional Hospital. He was born May 31, 1922 in Glenonville, Mo., the son of the late Edgar and Mary (nee Stenger) Stratmann. Mr. Stratmann is survived by daughters Bonnie (Richard) Casey of Hecker and Gerry (William) Obernuefermann of Swansea; grandchildren Ronald (Patti) Casey, Brian (Sheri) Casey, Amy (John) Mika and Kelly Obernuefermann; great-grandchildren Brianna and Kaitlyn Casey, Allyssa and Megan Koerber, Gracelyn Casey and Kelsey, Abigail and Sophia Mika; sisters Ruth (Lee) Berkel of Belleville and Blanche Rehling of Millstadt; a brother-in-law, Bob (Rosemary) Becherer of Freeburg; and He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Anita (nee Becherer) Stratmann; a son, Edgar Stratmann; a daughter, Mary Stratmann; and brothers-in-law Edward Rehling and Roland Becherer. Mr. Stratmann was a farmer who retired as welder for Missouri Pacific Railroad after 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Parish in Hecker. Visitation was at the George Renner and Sons Funeral Home in Smithton. A funeral was at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Hecker with Father Robert Gore officiating. Cheryl Winkler, nee Hoffman, 65, of Columbia, died July 7, 2009. She was born May 5, 1944, in Lancaster, Wisc., the daughter of the late Elja and Thelma (Burton) Hoffman. She married Stanley Winkler in 1967 in Lancaster, Wisc. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Winkler is survived by daughters Leslie (Jeff) Higgs of St. Louis, Mo., and Nicole (Rodolfo) Cornick of Tulum, Mexico; a sister, Patricia Hanson of Arlington, Wisc.; step-sisters Loyce Jones of Raleigh, NC., and Marilyn Knight of Prosser, Wash.; and a grandchild, Annie Alyse Higgs; along with other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Emily Grace Higgs. Mrs. Winkler retired from the Cahokia School District 187. She had also worked in the Columbia Unit 4 School District and at St. Paul UCC of Columbia. Visitation and funeral were at St. Paul UCC of Columbia with Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. Bernice Osick, nee Probst, 90, of Millstadt, died July 11, at Red Bud Regional Hospital. She was born Nov. 2, 1918 in Millstadt, the daughter of the late Richard and Mary (nee Hinkle) Probst. Mrs. Osick is survived by a daughter, Lois Jean (Fred) Sauer; a sister, Ethel Resch; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Osick; and a sister, Adele Quirin. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt and the American Legion Post 502 Ladies Auxiliary. Visitation and funeral were held at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrell Weber officiating. Mrs. Osick was buried at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights.
