Zoran Perisic, 54, of Waterloo, died July 27, 2009, following an extended illness. He was born Oct. 31, 1954, in Yugoslavia, the son of Rose (nee Crpesic) D'Amico of St. Louis, Mo., and the late Dragan Perisic. He married Deborah (nee O'Brien) Perisic in 1995 in Waterloo. In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Perisic is survived by sons Josh Bayer of Columbia, and Christopher Bayer and Nicholas Bayer of Waterloo; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Daniel (Jess) O'Brien, Kevin (Cindy) O'Brien, Kathleen (Mark) Range and Missy (Ed) Breeding; along with other relatives and friends. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral was held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia with Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. Mr. Perisic was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
Christy Sue Langhorst, nee Rubemeyer, 47, of Waterloo, died July 28, 2009 following an extended illness. She was born Oct. 14, 1961 in Belleville, the daughter of Delores Rubemeyer and the late Ronald Rubemeyer. Mrs. Rubemeyer is survived by a daughter, Carrie Langhorst; grandson, Tallas Wayne Langhorst; a sister, Laura Mehard; brother, Mitchell (Dawn) Rubemeyer; and brother-in-law, Brian Luhr; along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a sister, Tracey Beth Luhr. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo with Pastor Tony Troup and Pastor Matt Clark officiating. She was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice.
Steven Ray “Red” Foutch, 47, of East Carondelet died Tuesday, July 28 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville. He was born January 17, 1962 in East St. Louis, the son of Ivan Foutch and the late Bertha m. Foutch nee Hasty. Besides his father, Mr. Foutch is survived by brothers Bruce (Kim) Foutch, Gary Foutch and Dennis (Kim) Foutch; sisters Lorri Keys and Chris (Todd) Westover; AND brothers and sisters in the DuQuoin area, Linda (Rich) Fitch, Rita (Alan) Voice, Wayne Foutch, Rick (Karen) Foutch, Keith (Cathy) Foutch and Pam (Mike) Bial; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dennis Keys. Mr. Foutch was an active member of Teamsters Local 50 and worked for the Columbia Quarry Co. at the Dupo plant. He was a past trustee of the Village of East Carondelet and the Prairie du Pont Levee District and was a Democratic precinct committeeman. Visitation was at the Dashner-Leesman Funeral Home where a funeral service was conducted. Burial was private.
Lara Adele “Nana” Watterson, nee Griffith, 79, of East Carondelet died July 29, 2009. She was born Aug. 27, 1929 in Gorham, the daughter of the late John and Oza (nee Crain) Griffith. Survivors include daughters Johna (Claudio) Della Corte and Dona Holt; a son, Bruce (Becky) Watterson; a brother, Charles Griffith; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and special friends Eddie and Glenda Latta; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Watterson was a homemaker and had worked for Dupo Pharmacy. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and an avid bingo player. Visitation and funeral were at the Dashner-Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo with Rev. Eddie Latta officiating. Burial was at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville.
Clara Mae Biby, 95, of Waterloo, formerly of Columbia, died July 30, 2009, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. She was born Nov. 20, 1913 in Nashville, IL., the daughter of the late Samuel Thomas and Sadie (Neill) Carson. She was christened in the Oakdale Reformed Presbyterian Church in 1914 and became a member in 1923. She married John Robert Biby in 1937 at her church. He died in 1986. Mrs. Biby is survived by her son, Robert Biby of Troy; grandchildren Lisa Kae (Adrian) Dunne of Roseville, Calif., Erika Lynn (Rob) Russina of Ballwin, Mo., and Patrick Biby of Belleville; great-grandchildren Ethan Dunne, Cymone Dunne, Gabrielle Russina, Kayla Russina and Gavin Russina; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Dick and Alice Biby of Washington, DC., and Joan Wilbanks of Lakeland, Fla.; and nieces and nephews Sarah Peveler, Jane Harris, Carson (Norma) Hempen, Ann (Jorge) Lopez, Mary (Mark) Goetz, Christine (Mark) Kengott, Elizabeth Biby Bandarcan, Steven (Linda) Biby, Mark (Barbara) Fessler, Michael Coltrin, Dale Ray Wilbanks, Peter Biby and Richard Biby. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Andreaci; a brother, Neill Carson; sisters Mildred Fessler and Dorothy Hempen; and a grandson, John Robert Biby III. Mrs. Biby taught school for 38 years in Washington, Perry and St. Clair Counties and was inducted in 1999 into the Dupo Educators Hall of Fame. After her retirement, her volunteer work included the Literacy program, Babes, tutoring, church programs and she also volunteered at a convalescent center. She was a member of St. Paul UCC in Columbia where she was active in the Afternoon Fellowship, Prayer Breakfast Club and Evening Guild, the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Eastern Star 397 of Columbia, Monroe County Retired Teachers Association, Columbia Senior Citizens, Columbia Woman’s Club and Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Visitation and funeral were at at St. Paul UCC with with Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. Mrs. Biby was buried at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia. Arrangements were handled by the Hempen Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to her church.
Emil "Meeshe" Marin, 85, of Columbia, died July 30, 2009, at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis. He was born April 10, 1924, in Fairmont City, the son of the late Nick and Rose (Rosandich) Marin. He married Mary (Granda) Marin in 1946 in Fulton, Mo. In addition to his wife, Mr. Marin is survived by a son, David Marin of Millstadt; daughter, Vicki (Jan) Swickard of Bristol, RI.; and a sister, Emily Kaminski of Fenton, Mo.; along with nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers Mike, John, Tony and Joe Brombolich; and a sister, Helen Sheroky. Mr. Marin served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he was stationed in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre. He was involved in actions in Tunisia, Rome and Naples, Italy. Mr. Marin was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbia. He was retired from Armour and Company, and had also worked at Atkins Saw. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral was at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbia with Pastor Michael Kumm officiating. Mr. Marin was buried at Valhalla Gardens Of Memory in Belleville. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund.
Anne Caroline Collie, 82, of Little Rock, Ark., died July 21, 2009. She was born Feb. 12, 1927, the daughter of Clarence and Lena Hoffman. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Collie was preceded in death by her husband, H.E. Collie Jr.; and daughters Donna Lee and Deborah Arnold. She is survived by a sister, Viola Muskopf of Columbia; daughters Jan Scoggins of Dallas, Tex., and Marcia Geyer of Mena, Ark.; grandchildren Ashley Graham, Lindsey Arnold, Julie George, Jackie George and Bobbie Tidwell; and a great-grandson, Gavin Arnold. Mrs. Collie was an executive secretary at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission for 27 years. In her early years, she was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s, was a member of the PTA and a bowling league. She was a member of Central Arkansas Ballroom Dance Association and was in the gold level program at Fred Astaire Dance Studio. She was also an accomplished vocalist who enjoyed writing poems for birthdays and special occasions. Mrs. Collie attended the First Baptist Church of Mena, Ark., for several years and was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. Funeral Services were at the Griffin-Leggett Healey and Roth Funeral Home in Little Rock, Ark., with Rev. David Moore officiating.
David “Big Bitts” Buettner, 51, of Waterloo, died Aug. 2, 2009 in St. Louis, Mo. He was born July 24, 1958 in Red Bud, the son of Victor and Iris (nee Nagel) Buettner of Waterloo. In addition to his parents, Mr. Buettner is survived by a brother, Marc Buettner; a sister, Dawn (Don) Sutter; a nephew, Shane Buettner; nieces Abbey and Amanda Sutter; and a step-grandmother, Audrey Nagel. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George and Nelda Nagel; and his paternal grandparents, Victor F. and Lena Buettner; along with other relatives and friends. Mr. Buettner was a maintenance machinist at Amsted Steel Industry in Granite City, a member of the Maeystown Sportsman’s Club and an avid Harley rider. At his request, there will be no visitation and his body will be cremated. A memorial service celebrating his life has been planned at Main Street Saloon, 220 N. Main St. in Waterloo, on Saturday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will take place this Sunday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church Hall on Hoener Street in Waterloo. Alice E. Cunio, 83, of Waterloo died Aug. 3, 2009 in Belleville. She was born Dec. 14, 1925 in Waterloo, the daughter of the late Harry and Grace (nee Knowles) Kaufmann. Mrs. Cunio is survived by her husband, Thomas Cunio; daughters Judy (Hugh) Quigley, Catherine Haney, Deborah (Stephen) Karwoski and Lori Goudey; sisters Evelyn Ruff and Nancy Grimshaw; a brother, Harry Kaufmann; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Phoebe Schmitt. Mrs. Cunio was a homemaker and graduated from Waterloo High School in 1943. Visitation is at the DeFabio Funeral Home on Friday, Aug. 7 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A funeral will immediately follow with the Rev. Sandra La Rouche officiating. Gladys Mroz, nee Morton, 72, of Rockwood, formerly of Waterloo, died Aug. 5, 2009 in Chester. She was born Jan. 28, 1937, in Ellington, Mo., the daughter of the late Herman Morton and the late Alice Willet nee Davis. Mrs. Mroz is survived by her children, Linda Novack of Waterloo, Floyd (Paula) Engel of Chester, Kathy (David “Fritz”) Engel-Edwards of Rockwood; a stepson, Michael Mroz of Alton; grandchildren Scott (Michelle Molinari) Kaestner, Brandi (Rich) Nelson, Blake Novack, Stacy (Tony) Mooney, Zachary (Casey) Engel and Brittany Engel; and nine great-grandchildren; along with sister-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mroz Jr.; daughter, Debra (nee Engel) Faverty; grandson, Christopher Faverty; sister, Doris Quirin; and half-brother, Herman Davis. She was the former owner of Gem Dry Cleaners. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Thomas Klausing Sr. officiating. Mrs. Mroz was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo.
