Terry Otten, 44, of rural Columbia, died Aug. 6, 2009 at his residence. He was born March 12, 1965 in Red Bud, the son of Marvel and Mary Otten. In addition to his parents, Mr. Otten is survived by a sister, Donna (Keith) Washausen; brother, Gene (Kim) Otten; grandmother Billea Otten; and nieces and nephews Jessica Otten, Nicolas Otten, Kasey Washausen and Emma Otten; along with aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Leroy Otten. Mr. Otten was employed at Nestle-Purina in St. Louis, Mo. for 25 years. Kelly Nicole Nobbe, nee Burk, 26, of Waterloo, died Aug. 7, 2009 at her residence. She was born Feb. 24, 1983, in Belleville, the daughter of Randall and Nancy Burk. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nobbe is survived by her husband, Jared Nobbe; brothers Todd and Tyler Burk; in-laws, Tom and Jane Nobbe; brother-in-law, Brad Nobbe; maternal grandmother, Joan Geolat; aunts and uncles Cindy (Buster) DelaRoche, Peggy Geolat, Patti Geolat, Ben (Carol) Geolat, Larry (Carol) Burk, Mary Burk and Tammy Ripperda; and grandparents-in-law Edward and Joyce Nobbe and Lawrence and Betty Beckerle; along with other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by grandparents Bernard Geolat, Gladys Burk and Edwin Burk; and an aunt, Betty Mohme. Mrs. Nobbe was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo. She earned her Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from SIU Edwardsville. She was employed as a waitress at Annbriar Golf Course. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Stan Konieczny and Deacon Ron Karcher officiating. Mrs. Nobbe was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Sandra Taake, nee Coats, died Aug. 10, 2009 in St. Louis, Mo., following an extended illness. She was born May 8, 1943 in East St. Louis. Mrs. Taake is survived by her best friend and life partner, Jim Gray; mother, Marie Coats, sons Jeffrey (Jody) Taake, Gregory (Kimmy) Taake and Douglas (Jill) Taake; grandchildren Clara Taake, Maxwell Taake, Chase Taake, Logan Taake, Avery Taake and Addison Taake; and siblings Constance (Bud) Elliot, Glenda (Max) Churchill, Rita (Jeff) Engbring, Glenn (Linda) Coats, Candy (Barry) Vogt, Randall (Michelle) Coats and Kimberly (Todd) Ruff; along with aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Glenn F. Coats Sr. Mrs. Taake was the owner of Taake Insurance Agency in Columbia. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. Mrs. Taake was buried at St. John UCC Cemetery in Valmeyer.
Jimmy N. Mullins, 27, of Red Bud died at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2009 at Red Bud Regional Hospital. Mr. Mullins died as a result of injuries sustained when the bicycle he was riding collided with a car in Waterloo. He was born June 11, 1982 at Sikeston, Mo. the son of Vicky Mullinis, nee Thompson and the late Jimmy N. Mullins. Mr. Mullins worked as boat detailer and loved to skateboard and hang out with friends. Besides his mother, he is survived by his stepfather Lloyd Wilson of Edgar Springs, Mo.; a son, Kody Lane Mullins of St. James, Mo. and a sister, Kelly (Kenneth) Cowsert of Red Bud. There was a memorial service at Hope Christian Church. The body was cremated. Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home of Red Bud had charge of arrangements.
Agnes M. Wortmann, nee Schmitz, 84, of Fults died Aug. 16, 2009 at Waterloo. She was the wife of the late William M. Wortmann. Mrs. Wortmann was born Nov. 15, 1924 at Renault the daughter of the late William and Minnie Schmitz, nee Meyer. Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie (James) Nobbe; two sisters, Irene Fausz and Darlene Wetzler; grandchildren, Todd (Jamie) Nobbe, Craig Wortmann and Robin (Chris) Schomber; great-grandchildren, Alex, Aaron, Patrick and Lillian Nobbe and Mia and Chase Schomber. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Wortmann was preceded in death by a son, William M. Wortmann, great-grandson, Phillip Nobbe; sisters, Mathilda Rast, Eleanora Donius, Orlena Novak, Clara Rodenberg, Katie Schmitz, Nelda Schmitz and Rose Schmitz; and one brother, George Schmitz. Mrs. Wortmann was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral service was conducted by Father Roger Karban at the funeral home with burial at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery. Warren L. Osterhage, 84, of Waterloo died Aug. 27, 2009. He was born Nov. 7, 1924 in New Hanover, the son of the late Emil and Edna (nee Klohr) Osterhage. Mr. Osterhage is survived by a brother-in-law, Lee (Grace) Hoffmann of Waterloo; and sisters-in-law Nadine Osterhage of Waterloo and Kay (Dennis) Ritzel of Cleveland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ada (nee Hoffmann) Osterhage; a sister, Alice Studt; a brother, Earl Osterhage; in-laws Edwin and Rose Hoffmann; brothers-in-law Richard Studt and Kermit Hoffmann; sisters-in-law Ardel (Halbert) Mueller and Dorothy (Vernon) Hoffman. Mr. Osterhage was a lifelong farmer and started Osterhage-Mueller Excavating Co. He retired from farming in 1989 when he sold his farm for development into a golf course. He served in the Merchant Marines in World War II . Mr. Osterhage was a member of St. Paul UCC in Waterloo, the Men’s Brotherhood and the Monroe County Farm Bureau. Mr. Osterhage was a resident of Oak Hill’s Magnolia Terrace since its opening and made many friends there. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at St. Paul UCC in Waterloo. Burial was at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery.
Louise C. Haase, nee Klussman, 84, of Red Bud, formerly of Sedalia, Mo., died Aug. 28, 2009 at Red Bud Regional Hospital. She was born Sept. 27, 1924 in Corder, Mo., the daughter of the late Charles and Louise (nee Schwanholt) Klussman. She married Leonard Haase in 1946 in Mt. Leonard, Mo. He died in 1986. Mrs. Haase is survived by a daughter, Mary (Glenn) Koester of Evansville; a sister, Ruth Leimkuler of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren Christopher (Lisa) Koester, Aaron (Carrie) Koester, Nathan (Jodi) Koester, Angela (Troy) Birch, Jennifer (Hale) Parisek and Nicole (Terry) Nunn; and nine great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Leonard Haase Jr.; brothers Johann, Edwin and Karl Klussman; and sisters Erna Klussman and Miriam Dierking. Dovie E. Wisdom, nee Wilkerson, 60, of Waterloo died Aug. 31, 2009. She was born Dec. 30, 1948 at Poplar Bluff, Mo., the daughter of the late Aca and Marie Wilkerson. Mrs. Wisdom is survived by her husband, Ronny Wisdom; a daughter, Sharron (David) Schultheis of Prairie du Rocher; a son, Ronny Wisdom II of Waterloo; brothers Orville Wilkerson and Lenzie Wilkerson, both of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; a sister, Vivian Berdon of Jefferson City, Mo.; grandchildren David Anthony Schultheis, Katelin Rene Wisdom, Anna Marie Schultheis and Carrin Mollat; and three great-grandchildren; She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Mrs. Wisdom was employed in housekeeping in the hotel industry. Visitation and funeral were at DeFabio Funeral Home with the Rev. Gaulon Butler officiating. Mrs. Wisdom was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Leland E. Rehling, 88, of Waterloo, died Aug. 19, 2009, in Waterloo. He was born April 12, 1921 in Waterloo, the son of the late Edward and Emma (nee Lang) Rehling. Mr. Rehling is survived by his wife, Marian Rehling nee Roddy; sister, Jeanette Gregson; nieces and nephews, Russell (Diane) Gregson, Gordon (Cindy) Gregson, Alice Gregson and Linda, Randy and Scott Roddy; and sister-in-law, Gloria Roddy; along with great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by brothers-in-law Orville Gregson and Joseph Roddy; and a nephew, Thomas Roddy. When he was one, his parents moved to a farm one mile east of Waterloo. After his high school graduation in 1939, he worked at Monroe Service Co. until his enlistment in World War II. He had honorable discharges from the Coast Guard, the US Navy, the War Shipping Administration and the U.S. Maritime Service. He traveled much of the world with 33 months of sea time. Upon his return in 1946, Rehling farmed until his retirement in 1977. Rehling was active with the local Democratic Party was served as a special deputy under Sheriff Joe McCarthy. Rehling was a former member of the Monroe County Farm Bureau, Morris Lodge 787, Monroe County board of school trustees and Local 717 of the Musicians Union of East St. Louis. Music was a big part of Leland’s life. In 1927 at the age of six, he played a Dutch pull out on the KMOX radio station. Leland played for dances in the local area for more than 30 years and he could play almost any instrument except the reed class. He played the trombone in the Waterloo Municipal band for 30 years. Rehling is credited with helping to start the Kaskaskia Trail Chorus, where he served as the show chairman for five years. A talented vocalist, he could all four parts in a quartet. At Leland's request, there was no visitation or service. Arrangements were handled by Quernheim Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Kaskaskia Trail Chorus (Barbershoppers).
Gary “Mo” Malott, 58, of Red Bud, died Aug. 20, at Red Bud Regional Hospital. He was born Feb. 25, 1951 in Red Bud. He married Brenda Ehlers in 1972 in Red Bud. In addition to his wife, Mr. Malott is survived by his mother, Virginia (nee Greenfield) Malott of Evans-ville; grandmother, Annie Malott of Russellville, Ark.; children Jason (Liz) Malott of St. Louis, Mo., and Angela (Kevin) Cartee of Red Bud; grandchildren Noah and Logan Malott and Konnor Cartee; a brother, Dennis Malott of Red Bud; sister, Laurie (Steve) Mattingly of Prairie du Rocher; brothers-in-law Larry (Pam) Ehlers of Red Bud and Byron (Janine) Ehlers of Carlyle; and a sister-in-law, Sandra Ehlers of Red Bud; along with nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, Harley Malott; in-laws Homer and Alta Ehlers; and grandfather, Prentice Malott. Mr. Malott worked for IDOT for 33 years. He retired as a foreman in 2006. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Red Bud, served on the Red Bud Fire Department for 23 years, and was active with the Muskets Athletic Club for 33 years. Visitation was at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud. Funeral was at St. John Lutheran Church in Red Bud with Rev. Mark Nebel officiating. Mr. Malott was buried at the church’s cemetery.
