Grace Helen Katherine Carrow, nee Rexroth, 97, of Bonne Terre, Mo., died Sept. 8, 2009 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis. She was born May 9, 1912 in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Peter and Katherine (nee Borchers) Rexroth. She married Bearl Charles Carrow in 1936 - they would would have celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary this December. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Carrow is survived by her daughters Lois (James) Heise of Waterloo, Katherine (Glenn) Mueller of Arnold, Mo., and Betty (Andrew) Hoffee; a son, Donald Carrow of Bonne Terre, Mo.; grandchildren Mark (Ellen) Heise, Steven Heise, Derek (Katherine) Heise, Catherine (Kevin) Whelan, Michelle Nunnally, Nancy (Troy) Connell, Jacqueline (Corey) Buckley and Bethany (Bryant) Caruthers; and great-grandchildren Dan and Michael Heise, Lauren, Jimmy and J.T. Heise, Adrianna, Alex, Autumn and Ashlyn Whelan, Justin, Kyle and Brett Nunnally, Zachary and Dylan Connell, Harley and Patience Barton, Haydyn and Tyler Buckley and Zoey Caruthers; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters Melba Altenbernd, Junette Turley and Dorothy Turley; a brother, Charles Borchers Sr.; and great-grandson, Brandon Connell. Mrs. Carrow was an avid bowler and golfer, playing both sports until well into her 80s. She was the former treasurer of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Bonne Terre for 18 years. Funeral services were at C.Z. Boyer Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Carrow is buried at the Bonne Terre Cemetery. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc.

Dorothy “Dottie” Ferrick, nee Hamilton, 91, of O’Fallon, died Sept.13, 2009 at Oak Hill in Waterloo. She was born May 17, 1918 in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Henry and Nellie (nee Embry Clouse) Hamilton. She was the wife of the late Earl Kreisler and the late John Ferrick. Mrs. Ferrick is survived by her daughters Earlene (Jamie) Howard of Martinsville, Ind., Susan Price of Caseyville and Sandra Sauget of Waterloo; brothers Lawrence Hamilton of Humble, Tex., and James Clouse of St. Louis; sisters Margie McCauley of Humble, Tex., and Diane Brayfield of St. Louis; a sister-in-law, Edith Hamilton of St. Louis; special friends Helen Varady of Hayward, Calif., and Barbara Parsons of Swansea; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Robert Hamilton and Edwin “Boots” Clouse; sisters Catherine Clouse, Jean Beasley and Charlene Farley; and a sister-in-law, Pat Clouse. Mrs. Ferrick was the retired owner of Dottie’s Diner in East St. Louis. Upon her death, she was promoted to head cook in God’s kitchen. Visitation was at the Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville where a funeral service were conducted. She was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Belleville. Memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children or Oak Hill.

Leonard Schultz, 88, of Waterloo, formerly of Belleville and Freeburg, died Sept. 8, 2009. He was born May 10, 1921 in Tuscola, the son of the late Claus Henry and Anna (nee Ernst) Schultz. Mr. Schultz is survived by his children Anne DeToy, Paul (MarySue) Schultz, Jane (Mike) Quernheim, John Schultz and Mary (John) Wisniewski; a brother, John Schultz; sister, Leona Hughes; former wife, Joan Schultz; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Schultz; great-granddaughter, Kaylin Giddens; brothers Henry and Ernest Schultz; and sisters Pauline Hardy, Lillian Keeney and Juanita Benson. Mr. Schultz served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired as an engineer/cameraman for KMOV-TV in St. Louis. He was a member of IBEW, Loners on Wheels and Escapees Inc. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home with Pastor Doug Roberts officiating. Mr. Schultz will be buried at Green Mount Cemetery in Belleville. Memorials may be made to the Oak Hill Alzheimer's Unit, the Alzheimer's Association or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Duane Baum, 77, of Wartburg, died Sept. 11, 2009 in St. Louis, Mo. He was born Nov. 23, 1931 in Monroe City, the son of the late Harold and Edith (nee Gideon) Baum. Mr. Baum is survived by his wife, Arlene (nee Schmidt) Baum; a son, David (Laurie) Baum; grandchildren Hayden and Jacey Baum; a step-grandchild, Nicole Merten; brother, Harold (Rosalie) Baum; brothers-in-law Howard (Michael Sue) Schmidt and Dennis W. (Jane) Schmidt; and sisters-in-law Bonnie (Bill) Keel and Linda (Bruce) Bauer; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Miller; a brother, Noel "Butch" Baum; and nephews David Miller and Shane Miller. Mr. Baum served in U.S. Army in Okinawa from 1952-1954 during the Korean Conflict. For 57 years he was employed with the IBEW Local Union 309. He was a member of the VFW, Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Monroe Physical Therapy. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wartburg with Pastor Stuart Rethwisch officiating. Mr. Baum was buried at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to his church.

Johnnie Capron, 82, of LaGrange, a former Waterloo High School teacher and coach in the 1950s and 1960s, died Sept. 11, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Ida Mae (nee Limestall) Capron; children Debra (Joe) George, Donna (Fred) Kittleman and Diane (Ben) Marasa; grandchildren Jessica (Dan) O'Neall, Jason Diederich, John (Andrea) George, Daniel George, Michael George, Sarah George, Rachel George, Antoinette Dentamaro and Victoria Dentamaro; along with five great-grandchildren. A memorial service was at Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Stickney. Memorials may be made to Marklund, www.marklund.org. Florence Koch, nee Schmieg, 95, of Fults, died Sept. 27, 2009 in Waterloo. She was born July 16, 1914 at Kidd, the daughter of the late John and Anna Schmieg, nee Bestmann. She is survived by her children Helen Wetzler, Clarence Koch and Henry (Helen) Koch; and grandchildren Randy (Robin) Wetzler, Ricky Wetzler, Shannon Edley and Sheen Koch; along with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry L. Koch; a daughter, Carol; granddaughter, Linda Wetzler; and great-granddaughter, Megan Kay Wetzler; along with sisters and brothers. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Renault, Ladies Aide and Waterloo Senior Center. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Renault with Pastor Ralph E. Laufer officiating. She was buried at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.

Jacob D. Douglas, 28, of Waterloo, died Sept. 26, 2009 in Waterloo. He was born April 12, 1981 in Belleville, the son of Stephen “Tex” Douglas and Debra (nee Davis) Douglas. Besides his parents, Mr. Douglas is survived by a sister, Brandy (Aaron) Dille; brothers Stephen (Rebecca) Douglas and Christopher Douglas; half-brother Michael (Diane) Kelley; and paternal grandparents Duel and Lorraine Douglas. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents. Visitation and memorial service were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Father Osang Idagbo officiating. Memorials may be made to United Cerebral Palsey of Southern Illinois.

Arthur T. Hoffelmeyer, 47, of Columbia died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009. He was born April 8, 1962, in Topeka, Kan., the son of William and Mary Ann (nee Klecan) Hoffelmeyer. He married Kathy (nee McGillis) Hoffelmeyer in 2006 in Columbia. Mr. Hoffelmeyer received his bachelor's degree from University of Kansas in 1985 where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was a sales manager with Senoret Chemical Co., in Kirkwood, Mo. In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Hoffelmeyer is survived by a daughter, Melissa Hasler of Columbia; a son, Andrew Hasler of Columbia; and sisters Nancy (Phil) Percich of Lawrence, Kan., Annette (Phil) Wilson of Racine, Wis., and Linda (Tim) Schuler of Rochester, Mich.; along with nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Bob Conroy officiating. Mr. Hoffelmeyer was buried at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bob Costas Cancer Society.

Terry R. Ryan, 64, of Columbia, died Sept. 26, 2009. He was born Sept. 27, 1944, in Ironton, Mo., the son of the late Lansing Ryan and Pearl (nee McGraw) Ryan of Farmington, Mo. He married Lucia (nee Kastner) Ryan in April 29, 1983, in St. Louis, Mo. Terry had been employed as a telephone technician with Siemens in St. Louis and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia. He loved fishing, the St. Louis Cardinals and gardening. In addition to his mother and wife, Mr. Ryan is survived by a son, Robert (Susanne) Ryan of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Polly (Bob) McNellis of Olathe, Kan.; grandchildren Ryan and Meghan McNellis, and George, Ana and Luke Ryan; a sister, Gay (Tom Wood) Ryan of Farmington, Mo.; and a brother, Charles Ryan of Farmington; along with other relatives and friends. A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 2 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia with Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Bernice Rose Klump, 92, of Kennewick, Wash., formerly from Columbia, died Sept. 21, 2009 in Kennewick. She was born in Columbia, the daughter of the late Oliver and Carrie (nee Lepp) Rose. Mrs. Klump moved to Washington in her later years to be with her daughter. Mrs. Klump was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Klump; and a son, Roger William Klump. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl; a sister-in-law, Joyce Rose; and a cousin, Ruth Ann Archer; along with grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. Mrs. Klump was a member of Columbia American Legion Auxiliary 581. Services were conducted in Kennewick by her son-in-law Richard Perkins, who is a Morman bishop.
