Vernon J. “Buzz” Haberl, 83, of Columbia, died July 17, 2005. He was born October 14, 1921, in Columbia, the son of the late Frank and Irene Haberl nee Dollar. He married Dorothy Haberl nee Sudbeck in 1945. He is survived by his wife; daughters Nancy (John) Drevicki of Belleville and Sandra (Chris) Ziebold of Waterloo; grandchildren Tracey (Phil) Loder, Andrea (Chris) Davis, Ryan Drevicki, Lt. Jason (Bobbi) Ziebold, Nathan Ziebold, Lisa (Chris) Treadwell and Sonia (Joe) Chappell; great-grandchildren Ellen Treadwell, Joe Bisson and Jamie Bisson; sister Marcella Crowder of Columbia; brother Clifford (Florence) Haberl of Columbia; and cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Howard “Tiny” Haberl and granddaughter Kristen Ziebold. Mr. Haberl was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was retired from Monsanto Chemical Company, where he was chief chemical operator. He was a member of Columbia Senior Citizens and Monsanto Local #16 Retirees Club, and he was a State of Illinois Road Review Course instructor. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He participated in the D-Day landing at Utah Beach and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a lifetime member of the Gateway Battle of the Bulge Organization. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral mass was said by Fr. Carl Scherrer. He is buried at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Columbia. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Henry W. Jehling Jr., 75, of Waterloo, died July 16, 2005, in Belleville. He was born August 5, 1929, in Valmeyer, the son of the late Henry Sr. and Cornelia Jehling nee Stumpf. He was married to Dorothy Jehling nee Reichert. He is survived by his wife; children Donna Hoffmann of Waterloo, Wanda (Glenn) Schewe of Waterloo, and Pamela Jehling of Waterloo; grandchildren Angela (Chris) Wellen, Scott Schewe, Kelly Hoffmann and Taylor Hoffmann; great-grandchildren Brianna Thompson and Hanna Thompson; sister Dorothy Sendelbeck of Waterloo; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Jehling was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of Waterloo American Legion, AMVETS, Good Sam Camping Group, Family Motor Coach Association, and was a former member of Local #148. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. Visitation and funeral services were at Quernheim Funeral Home, Pastor Mark Buck officiating. He is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Paul B. Story, 72, of Columbia, died July 18, 2005. He was born August 26, 1932, in St. Louis, the son of the late Paul and Ellen Story nee Winstead. He married Phyllis Story nee Weinhold in 1956. He is survived by his wife; sons Kevin Story of Brentwood, Mo., and Craig Story of Columbia; sisters Shirley Parker of Phoenix, Ariz., Mary Ellen Feilner of Granite City, Viola (Clinton) Fink of Waterloo, and Dorothy (John) Mezyk of Fairview Heights; and other relatives and friends. Mr. Story was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was retired from Ameren UE, where he worked as a pipe fitter and mechanic. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pastor Steven Theiss officiating. He is buried at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Columbia. Theresa A. Rippelmeyer nee Meister, 90, of Waterloo, died July 24, 2005, in Belleville. She was born July 18, 1915, in New Design, the daughter or the late William and Margaret T. Meister nee Mueller. She was married to Milton A. Rippelmeyer. She is survived by her husband; daughters Gloria Rippelmeyer of Belleville and Janet Hodges of Waterloo; grandson Jason Hodges, friend Kathy Rats of Belleville, and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation and funeral services were at Quernheim Funeral Home, Pastor Nancy Spier-Lee officiating. She is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Mary Ann Smith nee Mardirosian, 69, of Columbia, died July 27, 2005, in Columbia. She was born July 5, 1936, in Centreville, the daughter of the late Harry and Amilia Mardirosian nee Holmann. She is survived by her daughters Angel Kohlenberger of Eureka, Mo., Kelly (Joe) Dobronski of Columbia, and Linda Smith of Waterloo; sons Mike (Angie) Kohlenberger of Crossville, Tenn., and Marty (Sherry) Kohlenberger of Valmeyer; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters Amilia Hughes and Lynn (Ralph) Range; brothers Charles Mardirosian, Lee Mardirosian and Harry (Norma) Mardirosian; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Dennis Mardirosian. Mrs. Smith was retired from Embassy Suites in St. Louis, where she was employed as executive housekeeper. Alois Walter Johanning, 78, of Waterloo, died July 28, 2005, in Waterloo. He was born May 31, 1927, in Maeystown, the son of the late Alvin and Alma Johanning nee Vallowe. He was married Delores C. Johanning nee Muertz. He is survived by his wife; daughters Karen Johanning of Waterloo and Sue (Tom) Nilges of Waterloo; son Jeff (Janell) Johanning of Red Bud; grandchildren Crystal Nilges, Paul Nilges, Jeremy Johanning, and Jodie Johanning; sister Alma Williams of Mt. Home, Ark.; and a brother, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Johanning. Mr. Johanning was a laborer with Local #196. He was a member of Maeystown Sportsman’s Club and Waterloo VFW. Visitation was at DeFabio Funeral Home. He is buried at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Madonnaville.
Miranda Claire Quiqley, 15-months, of Harriman, Utah, died July 28, 2005, at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born April 27, 2004, in Salt Lake City, the daughter of Eric and Jeana Quigley nee Watters of Herriman, Utah. She is survived by her parents; sister Bianca; grandparents Ron and Sue Watters of Waterloo, and Janis and Collin Quigley of Plano, Tex.; and aunts, uncles and cousins. Gary Rothlisberger, 49, of Waterloo, died July 28, 2005, in Red Bud. He was born May 19, 1956, in St. Louis, the son of Ralph and Betty Rothlisberger of St. Louis. He is survived by his parents; children Katherine (Robert) Lang of Waterloo, Brian Rothlisberger of Waterloo and Kevin Rothlisberger of Waterloo; ex-wife Sally Rothlisberger nee Rapp of Waterloo; grandchildren Kayla and Devon; sisters Joyce )Gordon) Adams of St. Clair, Mo., and Cathy Ewald of St. Louis; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Rothlisberger was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was an avid musician and singer. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral mass was said by Msgr. Thomas Flach. Frieda E. Lechner, 91, of Columbia, died July 29, 2005. She was born August 25, 1913, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Henry Sr. and Frieda Lechner nee Baumann. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, great-great-nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Henry Lechner Jr. and sisters Anna, Louise and Martha. Ms. Lechner was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia and St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in St. Louis. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Harold E. Lindhorst, 82, of Columbia, died July 30, 2005. He was born March 26, 1923, in Columbia, the son of the late Charles and Ida Lindhorst nee Vogt. He married Vernetta J. Lindhorst nee Leingang in 1944. He is survived by his wife; daughters Joyce (Paul) Schmoll of Evansville, and Sharon McDermott of Red Bud; sons Charles L. Lindhorst of Columbia, Michael (Judy) Lindhorst of Columbia, and Dennis (Karla) Lindhorst of Columbia; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Dorothy Gailius of Cahokia and Irene Pulcher of East Carondelet; brother Willard “Bill” Lindhorst of Waterloo; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mildred Mees, brother Clarence Lindhorst, and son-in-law Jim McDermott. Mr. Lindhorst was a self-employed farmer and member of the Monroe County Farm Bureau and Monroe County Pork Producers. Visitation and funeral services were at Lawlor Funeral Home, Fr.
