Robert E. Jones, 56, of Waterloo, died May 21, 2005. He was born April 2, 1949, in East St. Louis, the son of the late Claude and Edna Mae Jones nee Hartung. He is survived by his sisters Patricia Lewis of St. Louis and Marilyn Jones of Waterloo; brother Claude Jones of Westville, Ind.; nephews Jim (Carmen) Lewis and Jason Jones; nieces Ali Jones, Dawn Merlenbach and Diana (Dennis) Daugherty; great-nephews Joshua Lewis and Ian Daugherty; great-nieces Erica Merlenbach, Rachel Merlenbach, Karrie Merlenbach, Clara Lewis, Molly Lewis, Miranda Daugherty and Sarah Daugherty; and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Sondra Jones. Mr. Jones was a Vietnam veteran. Visitation and funeral services were at DeFabio Funeral Home. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
Jeffrey R. Shields, 58 of Plain City, Utah, died May 23, 2005, after a four-year battle with cancer. He was born September 18, 1946, the son of the late Rudolph and Fern Shields. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, formerly of Valmeyer; daughters Karen Shields of Austin, Tex., and Kathryn Shields of San Marcos, Tex.; grandchild C. J. Eichenlaub; brother Rick (Jenny) Shields; mother-in-law Mildred Hoffman; sisters-in-law Luann (Denny) Valentine and Nancy (Glenn) Voelker; brothers-in-law Jim (Bonnie) Hoffman and John Hoffman; and seven nieces and seven nephews. He worked for the federal government for 37 years, including with the FBI and Air Force Intelligence Command. He retired from Randolph Air Force Base in Texas. Funeral services were at the Latter-Day Saints Second Ward Chapel in Plain City, Utah. He is buried at Plain City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Richard J. Naumann, 68, of Millstadt, died May 24, 2005, in Millstadt. He was born November 30, 1936, in East St. Louis, the son of the late Fred and Helen Naumann nee Taylor. He was married to Vicki Naumann nee Grider. He is survived by his wife; children Cherryl (William) Hendrix of Millstadt and Deb Naumann of Columbia; grandchildren Anita Gregory, John Shrader, Byron Hendrix and Jason Hendrix; brothers Donald (Ida) Naumann of Columbia and Fred (Janice) Naumann of Red Bud; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Naumann was a member of Waterloo Independent Order of Odd Fellows #27, Samaritans, and was grand master of the Odd Fellows and was president of Triple Lakes Association. Visitation and funeral services were at Quernheim Funeral Home, Pastor William Groennert officiating. He is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. An Odd Fellow Service was also held for him. Memorials may be made to Relay for Life.
Robert W. Garrett, 87, of Waterloo, died May 25, 2005, in Waterloo. He was born March 6, 1918, in Macon, Mo., the son of the late James and Mary Garrett nee Woods. He was married to Virginia Garrett nee Fox. He is survived by his wife; children Jim (Nancy) Garrett of Maeystown, Harold (Karen) Garrett of Maeystown, and Carol (Scott) Goodwin of Chester; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Harold Garrett of Bakersfield, Calif.; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sharon K. Danzinger, and brothers. Mr. Garrett was a member of First Baptist Church of Waterloo. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at First Baptist Church of Waterloo, Pastor Tommy Cupples officiating. He is buried at Waterloo Cemetery. Robert E. Welch Jr., 78, of Waterloo, died May 26, 2005, in Waterloo. He was born November 2, 1926, in Ballwin, the son of the late Robert and Florence Welch nee Kaffai. He was married to Earlene Welch nee Mainer. He is survived by his wife; daughter Sharon (Jerry) Brennecke of St. Charles, Mo.; step-daughters Lana Sheils of Hazelwood, Mo., and Theresa Crane of Malibu, Calif.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers Ralph (Susan) Welch of Yucca Valley, Calif., and Danny (Carolyn) Welch of Midwest City, Okla.; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded n death by his parents, sister Mary Jane Moore and stepson Dean Weberling. Mr. Welch was a member of Fist Baptist Church of Waterloo. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Kenny Gremmels, 46, of Waterloo, died May 26, 2005, in Des Peres, Mo. He was born August 25, 1958, in Chester, the son of Herman (Louise) Gremmels and the late Estelle Gremmels nee Barnes. He was married to Connie Gremmels nee Brown. He is survived by his wife; daughter Melissa Gremmels; step-children Cassie (Eric) Zimmer nee Gummersheimer, Beth (Jamie) Geoppo nee Gummersheimer, Leslie Gummersheimer, and Jason Ford; grandchildren Tessa Jones and Grace Zimmer; siblings Terry Lee, Pam (Jimmy) Niemeyer, Ricky Dale (Delana Gremmels), and Tim (Susan) Gremmels; and an uncle, aunts, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother and brother Corlos Gremmels. Visitation and funeral services were at Quernheim Funeral Home, Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating.
Harry Z. Sennott, 80, of Kissimmee, Fla., died May 26, 2005. He was born in Los Angeles, Calif., to Harry B. and Clara Z. Sennott. He was married to Anita Sennott nee Kruse. He is survived by his wife; daughters Jennifer Pfeffer, Bonita Sennott, Jacqueline C. Churchill and Betsey Sennott; son Tom Sennott, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dr. John S. Sennott, and sister Clare “Honey” Crittenden. A memorial mass was held at Hold Redeemer Catholic Church in Kissimmee.
Oliver E. Mayfield, 77, formerly of Columbia, died May 29, 2005, in Madison, Wisc. He was born April 6, 1928, in East St. Louis, the son of the late Lloyd and Anna M. Mayfield nee Rowe. He was married to the late Shirley Mayfield nee Mandeville; she preceded him in death in 1997. He is survived by his children Patricia Thiel of Cape Coral, Fla., Ron (Deborah) Mayfield of North Little Rock, Ark., and Mary Elizabeth (Dennis) Snyder of Sun Prairie, Wisc.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother Charles W. Mayfield; and sister Margaret Bean. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Lloyd J. Mayfield Jr. and sister Norma Jean Bernhard. He was retired from Alton Southern Railroad, where he worked as a yardmaster and switchman. Visitation and funeral services were at Lawlor Funeral Home, Pastor Bill Groennert officiating. Louise Helen Unterseh nee Schneider, 87, of Valmeyer, died May 29, 2005, in Waterloo. She was born November 5, 1917, in Waterloo, the daughter of the late Henry F. and Louise P. Schneider nee Schmetz. She was married to the late Eugene W. Unterseh. She is survived by her children Jean (Raymond) Langsdorf of Valmeyer, William H. (Pamela) Unterseh of Phoenix, Ariz., Mary White of Waterloo, Margaret (Allen) Mackenzie of DeSoto, Mo., and Susan (Gary) Schreder of Valmeyer; grandchildren Dana (Vince) Siburt, Bret Langsdorf, Darcy (Michael) Fausz, William E. (Jenny) Unterseh, Joshua Unterseh, Christine (Jeffrey) Lung, Nathan White, Michelle (Andrew) Gausch, Todd (Sandy) Boyer, Carolyn Mueller, Philip Mueller and Ian Mueller, 10great-grandchildren; sister Pauline Helfrich; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Theresa, Mary, Rita and Gertrude Schneider, and sins-in-law Robert Boyer and John White. Richard C. Pickering, 35, of Waterloo, died May 29, 2005, in St. Louis. He was born September 13, 1969, in Belleville, the son of Joe B. Jr. and Barbara J. Pickering nee Williams. He is survived by his father, son Tanner John Fry of Burksville, sister Elizabeth (Mike) Bivins of Waterloo, and brother Joe (Pam) Pickering of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his mother.
