Albert O. Horn Jr., 66, of Waterloo, died May 31, 2005, in Waterloo. He was born August 8, 1938, in Waterloo, the son of Hilda Horn nee Kiem and the late Albert H. Horn Sr. He was married to Virginia Horn nee Castiaux/Wink. He is survived by his wife; children Larry (Geri) Horn of Waterloo, Alan (Joyce) Horn of Waterloo, Virgil Horn of Waterloo, and Anna Beth (Jason Bennett) Horn of Waterloo; grandchildren Stephanie, Fylicia, Michael, Kaylyn, Darius, Justice and Athena; brothers Leroy (Wanda) Horn of Waterloo and Edward (Marcine) Horn of Waterloo; sister Karen (James) Bouquet Jr. of Waterloo; mother-in-law Bessie Castiaux of Carlinville; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Thelma and Lyndal Sonneborn of Waverly. He was preceded in death by his father, one daughter in infancy, two sisters, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, a foster-father-in-law and a father-in-law. Mr. Horn was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Waterloo. Visitation and funeral services were at Quernheim Funeral Home, Pastor Tony Troup officiating.

Mary C. Schneider nee Asselmeier, 74, of Columbia, died April 2, 2005, in Waterloo. She was born January 12, 1931, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Edward “Nick” and Mary Asselmeier nee Wilson. She married the late Gene Schneider in 1953. She is survived by her son Stephen (Valerie) Schneider of Columbia; daughter Linda (Scott) Yancey of Waterloo; grandchildren Erin Yancey, Jacob Yancey and Jenna Marie Schneider; sister Doris England of Columbia; brother Francis (Claudia) Asselmeier of Columbia; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Allen Asselmeier. Mrs. Schneider was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia, where she taught Sunday school. She retired from First National Bank as a cashier and was a member of Order of the Easter Star Monroe Chapter #597 and Job’s Daughters. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Pastor Gerry Proctor officiating. She is buried at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia. John M. Davenport, 59, of Columbia, formerly of St. Louis, died April 5, 2005. He was born December 24, 1945, in St. Louis, the son of the late James C. and Rosalee Davenport nee Ruddick. He married Kathy J. Davenport nee Fink in 1967. He is survived by his wife; children Jody (Jeff) Graff of Columbia and Kevin Davenport of Columbia; grandchildren Gabrielle Graff, Alexandra Graff and Paulene Devenport; sisters Judy (Ed) Dieckmann of Lemay, Mo., and Jane (Bill) Wry of Leslie, Mo.; and brother James Davenport of Leslie, Mo. Mr. Davenport worked for George Weber Chevrolet as a service department salesperson. He was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He was cremated according to his wishes; arrangements were handled by Lawlor Funeral Home.
William Speiser, 100, of Columbia, died April 5, 2005, in Belleville. He was born July 18, 1904, in Sandoval, the son of the late Clemens Julius and Mary Lucretia Speiser nee Heavner. He married the late Florence Speiser nee Maule in 935; she died in 1981. He is survived by his daughter Barbara Speiser of Columbia; son Ron (Jean) Speiser of Red Bud; grandchildren Lori Fournie of Freeburg, Lynn (Tom) Sigman of Hecker, Robin (Karl) Tinney of Belleville, Seth (Elaine) Speiser of Freeburg, Penney (Bill) Boeving of Red Bud, and Carrie (Jason) Bronson of Waterloo; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters Amelia Speiser Bausch, Lillie Speiser, Anna Speiser Bartels, Emma Speiser Jarvis, Laura Speiser Burtz, Viola Speiser Leidwanger Briscoe, Ethel Speiser Standley, an a sister in infancy; brothers George Speiser, Charles Speiser, Howard Speiser, a brother in infancy, and half-brother Joseph Speiser; and great-grandson Scott Tinney. Mr. Speiser was a retired maintenance supervisor at Cerro Copper and Brass in Sauget. Visitation and funeral services were at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home in Freeburg, Rev. Betty Jane Winters nee Ritter, 76, of Columbia, died April 5, 2005, in St. Louis. She was born January 20, 1929, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Henry and Ella Nora Ritter nee Pfingsten. She married the late Robert A. Winters in 1950. She is survived by her daughters Beverly Lynn Tidwell of Phoenix, Ariz., and Beth Robin Grider of Arnold, Mo.; grandchildren Christine Louise Davis, Noah Christian Davis, Dawn Nadine Tidwell, Michael Dale Grider Jr., and David Joshua Grider; great-grandchildren Justin Grider and Contessa Brider; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Mrs. Winters was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, where she was a member of Women’s Fellowship and taught Sunday school. She retired from Northwestern National Insurance Co., and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #597 Monroe Chapter as a past matron, Columbia Senior Citizens, Trinity Christian endeavor, Monroe County Home Extension, Job’s daughters Bethel #14 in St. Louis and New Hanover Home Extension. She was also a brownie leader with Columbia Girl Scouts. Visitation and funeral services were at Lawlor Funeral Home, Pastor Gerry Proctor officiating. Marcella C. Gilbert nee Hellwig, 87, formerly of Columbia, died April 6, 2005, in Normal. She was born July 17, 1917, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Frank and Melissa Hellwig nee Anderson. She was married to the late Jack A. Gilbert. She is survived by her son Jack A. (Ella) Gilbert of Washington; daughter Patricia (Donald) Melican of Normal; grandchildren Kelly Jensen, Jeff Melican, Michelle Randall, Crystal Haxton and Craig Gilbert; seven great-grandchildren; and sister Shirley Burton of Grand Junction, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers. A memorial service was held at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville, Fr. Steve Gira officiating. Mamie W. Day nee Wassom, 94, of Waterloo, died April 8, 2005, in Waterloo. She was born December 8, 1910, in Lacy Springs, Ala., the daughter of the late Walter and Lula Wassom nee Brown. She was married to the late John R. Day. She is survived by her children Margaret (Bill) Corbett of Safety Harbor, Fla., Martha (Kazh) Urban of Gilbert, Ariz., Marvin Winton of Big Springs, Tex., Sam (Laura) Winton of Round Lake, John (Paula) Day of King, N.C., and Joe (Barb) Day of Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Samuel Winton and second husband John R. Day. Mrs. Day was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Illinois State Employees Association. Visitation for family and friends was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at SPPS Cemetery.
Helen M. Schuchardt nee Psaris, 80, of Waterloo, died April 8, 2005, in Red Bud. She was born April 8, 1925, in New Orleans, La., the daughter of the late Nicholas and Catherine Psaris nee Frigerio. She was married to the late Lester H. Schuchardt. She is survived by her children Louis (Ellen) Harken of Webster Groves, Mo., and Carl Wayne Dowdy of Arnold, Mo.; step-children Bruce (Maria) Schuchardt of Waterloo, Carol (Steve) Degener of Waterloo Ruth Ann (Dr. Darryll) Beard of Waterloo, Stacie Drager of Denver, Colo., and Kim (Bob) Hurley of Rochester; grandchildren Kelly Jennifer, Scott Samantha, Alexander, Kaylyn, Jonathan, Alisa, Christopher, Emily, William, Nathan, Denise, Graham, Dallas, Brittney, Andrea, Mark, Brett, Cameron and Joey; great-grandchildren Zach, Josh, Ashley and Sarah; sister Lucille Ventimiglia; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Geraldine Ilma May nee Feldman, 84, of Waterloo, died April 9, 2005, in St. Louis. She was born October 5, 1920, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Oliver and Edna Feldman nee Hahn. She married Vernon C. May in 1941. She is survived by her husband; son Robert E. (Brenda) May; grandchildren Lisa Schantz, Karen May, Jason May, Jennifer May, Rachel May and Leah May; and great-grandchildren Ian Schantz, Autumn May and Ryan Schantz. Robert J. Fischer, 75, of Waterloo, died April 11, 2005, in Waterloo. He was born June 16, 1929, in St. Louis, the son of the late Jesse and Josephine Fischer nee Dejnowski. He was married to Shirley J. Fisher nee Korvas. He is survived by his wife; children Stave (Sue) Gestring, Jackie (Doug) Keck, Bobby Fischer and Cheryl (Doug) Mattingly; grandchildren Heather (Jeff) Boulicault, Dave Keck, Josh Fischer, Shelby Fisher, Scott Gestring, Stephanie Gestring and Julie Balota; great-grandchildren Savannah Boulicault, JD Boulicault; step-children Mark Novack, Ellen (Duane H. Ries) Gates, John (Susan) Novack, Ryan (Whitney McRoberts) Novack, Julie Novack; step-grandchildren Ben Gates, Blake Novack, Monica Novack, Emma Novack, Natalie Novack; brother-in-law Robert (Margaret) Korvas; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mrs. Fischer was a bus driver for Laidlaw Transit and volunteered at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Louis. He graduated from Cleveland High School in St. Louis and served in the Naval Air Reserves at Lambert Field.
