Ettie J. Dougherty nee Winkelmann, 88, of Waterloo, died April 23, 2005, in Murphysboro. She was born November 26, 1916, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Otto E. and Charlotte A. Winkelmann nee Noble. She married the late James Dougherty in 1933. She is survived by her children Charlotte Shields of Waterloo, Virginia (Edward) Schenk of Oraville, Mary (Jack) Parr of Oraville, Gerri Wren of Red Bud, Joann (Arnold) Donjon of Prairie du Rocher, and John (Nancy) Dougherty of Dupo; daughters-in-law Jan Jones of Kentucky, Anna Mae Dougherty of St. Louis, and Kelia Dougherty of Red Bud; 35 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; sister Hattie Brugger of St. Louis; and brother-in-law Bernard (Jean) Dougherty of Collinsville. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons James Edward Dougherty, Thomas Leo Dougherty, and Kenneth “Buster” Dougherty; three sons-in-law; two grandsons; sisters Mary Studer, Anne Flamm, Lucy Theobold, and Lottie Winkelmann; and brothers Nelson Winkelmann and Otto Winkelmann. Mrs. Dougherty was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Waterloo. Visitation was at DeFabio Funeral home. A funeral mass was at SPPS, Msgr. Thomas Flach officiating. She is buried at SS. Hazel A. Schneider nee Flynn, 93, of Columbia, died April 27, 2005, in Columbia. She was born August 10, 1911, in Jerseyville, the daughter of the late Edward D. and Mary Magdelina Flynn nee Middendorf. She was married to the late Harvey H. Schneider. She is survived by her niece Janet Flynn of Dupo, seven great nieces, one great-nephew, and 14 great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Alice Shields, and brothers Harold Flynn, Barney Flynn, Eugene Flynn and Paul Flynn. Mrs. Schneider was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo, Msgr. Carolyn C. Meyers nee Cravens, 67 of Eldorado, died at her home April 29. She was born July 2, 1937, to J.H. LaVern and Neva Cravens nee Keikirk. She was married to Charles E. Meyers. She is survived by her husband; daughters Laura Arnett of Valmeyer and Lynlea (Larry) Pelker of Waterloo; grandchildren Justin (Solie) Arnett, Tyler Arnett, Trent Larsen, Vaughn Larsen, Charlotte Pelker, Ellen Pelker; and great-grandson Erek Arnett. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Meyers was a lifetime member of the order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Red Hat Society. Graveside services were performed at Upper Alton Cemetery, Rev. Russell Helton officiating.
Kenneth H. Miller, 42, of Waterloo, died April 29, 2005, in Waterloo. He was born January 26, 1963, in Royalton, Ga., the son of LaVerne Miller nee Meyer of Waterloo and James Patrick (Cheryl) Miller of Red Bud. He is survived by his parents; brothers James M. (Melanie) Miller of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Jared Miller of Baldwin; grandmother Mildred Meyer of Waterloo; two nieces; a nephew; and aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and an uncle. Mr. Miller was a member of Hecker Sportsman’s Club. He was a former driver for William F. Braun Milk Hauling in Hecker. Visitation and funeral services were at Quernheim Funeral Home.
John S. “Jack” Divers, 97, of Columbia, died April 30, 2005, in Belleville. He was born December 21, 1907, in South Bend, Ind., the son of the late Jack and Jeanette Divers nee Castiel. He married the late Clara E. Divers nee Lieser in 1930. He is survived by his son Donald Divers of Columbia; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son and daughter-in-law Wesson (Mary) Divers and grandchild Bradford Divers. Mr. Divers attended St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia, where he served on the Cemetery Board and Consistory, and was a Sunday school teacher and youth advisor. He was a retired farmer and had been active with Boy Scouts. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Ella Klohr nee Sparwasser, 97, of Waterloo, died March 3, 2005, in Waterloo. She was born February 1, 1908, in Wartburg, the daughter of the late George and Katharina Sparwasser nee Baltz. She was married to the late Herman Klohr. She is survived by her daughter Shirley (LeRoy) Trost of Sparta; grandchildren Dr. Lori Trost (Ed) Siemers of Waterloo, Dr. John (Kim) Trost of Springfield; Mrs. Amy (Matthew) McClure of Wildwood, Mo., and Mark (Becky) Trost of Millstadt; eight great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sister Emma (Albert) Trost of Millstadt; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Meta Sparwasser and Elsie Schneider, brothers Arthur Sparwasser, Harry Sparwasser, Elmer Sparwasser Sr., Edwin Sparwasser and Roy Sparwasser, and foster brother George Bauer. Mrs. Klohr was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo. She volunteered at the Monroe County Nursing Home and was a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Valmeyer American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star for more than 50 years, and Hungry Eight Card Club, which gathered monthly for 65 years. Her love of music, playing cards and family vacations will always be remembered. Visitation and funeral services were at Quernheim Funeral Home, Pastor Tom Corum officiating. Hildegarde A. Miller, 95, of Waterloo, died March 3, 2005, in Red Bud. She was born August 28, 1909, in Waterloo, the daughter of the late George and Caroline Miller nee Lang. She is survived by her niece Mary Zimmer of Waterloo, nephew James A. Miller of Peoria, Ariz., and dear friends Bill and Raydine Alexander of Edwardsville. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Josephine Miller, Amanda Brunch and Marie Zimmer, and brothers George W. Miller and Herman Miller. Mrs. Miller was a member of SS. Dorothy E. Welsch Hergenroeder nee Thiele, 85, of Waterloo, died March 3, 2005, in Waterloo. She was born September 24, 1919, in Maeystown, the daughter of the late Herman and Emma Thiele nee Fauss. She was married to Homer Hergenroeder; her first husband Cletus Welsch preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband; children C. James (Jean) Welsch of Aurora, Thomas R. Welsch of Waterloo, and Carol (Michael) Birk of Waterloo; step-children Faye (Dr. Ronald) Williams of Columbia and Duane “Roy” (Judi) Hergenroeder of Waterloo; grandchildren Todd Welsch, Nicole (Hank) Harrison, Tara Luhr (Scottie Bryant), JT Welsch, Lindsay Welsch, Alex Welsch, Adam Martin, Dr. Kimberly (Dr. Bill) Nolan, Brady Williams and Krista Williams; great-grandchildren Erick Welsch, Jeffrey Welsch, Lucas Hays, Noah Hays, Jacob Hays and Zoë Bryant; sisters Hulda Rafferty of Arkansas and Eileen Hoffman of Waterloo; and aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Ardell McClenahan nee Lenhardt, 94, of Waterloo, died March 4, 2005, in Waterloo. She was born February 3, 1911, in Waterloo, the daughter of the late Louis and Hilda Lenhardt nee Telling. She was married to the late Roy McClenahan; he preceded her in death in 1974. She is survived by her nieces Gale (Robert) VanConia of Columbia, Peggy (Robert) Studt of Columbia and Juanita Cooper of Columbia; sister-in-law Edna Harbaugh of Waterloo; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister. She was the former owner and operator of Lenhardt Restaurant and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star – Rob Morris Chapter #98 in Fairview Heights. Private family services were held. Gertrude M. Candler nee Dougherty, 89, of Maeystown, died March 5, 2005, in Town & Country, Mo. She was born December 22, 1915, in Red Bud, the daughter of the late John and Bridget Marie Dougherty nee Powderly. She was married to the late Robert Candler. She is survived by her children Bonnie (Frank) Johnson of Carthage, Miss., Stephen (Anne) Candler of Maeystown, and Phyllis (John) Hoefft of Maeystown; grandchildren Chastity Johnson, Chad Johnson, Angela (Jim) Manning, Jennifer (Eric) Seidler, Sarah (Dan) Thieret, Julie (Eugene) Huebner, and Tina Marie Hoefft; great-grandchildren Griffin Seidler, Logan Seidler and Sophia Seidler; and brother Bernard Dougherty. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Jim Dougherty, Leo Dougherty, Johnny Dougherty, Louis Dougherty and William Dougherty, and sisters Kathryn Pashia, Marcella Shields and Gervase Mary Schmidt.
