Florence Becker nee Eschmann, 96, of Columbia, died February 16, 2005, in Columbia. She was born September 5, 1908, in Columbia, the daughter of the late William and Ida Eschmann nee Kaempf. She was preceded in death in 1995 by her husband, the late Elmer Becker. She is survived by her daughter Mariann (Jerry) Hacker of Edina, Minn.; brother-in-law John (Irene) Becker of Eureka, Calif.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Elmer Eschmann and Earl Eschmann, and sisters Ella Wilde and Stella Miller. Mrs. Becker was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, where she was a quilter for more than 30 years. She retired from Swift & Co. in East St. Louis. She was a member of Columbia Senior Citizens, R.S.V.P. of Columbia for more than 20 years, and Order of the Eastern Star – Monroe Chapter for more than 60 years. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia, Pastor Michael Dixon officiating. She is buried at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ Kitchen Committee or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

Alma Reifschneider nee Mueller, 93, of Waterloo, died November 1, 2004, in Waterloo. Mrs. Reifschneider was married to the late William Reifschneider. She was born April 13, 1911, in Waterloo, the daughter of the late William and Caroline Mueller nee Heusohn. She is survived by her children Betty (Merlyn) Sinn and Donald (Delores) Reifschneider; grandchildren Sherry (Michael) Dreps, Stephanie (Mark) Rice, Scott (Julie) Sinn, Darren (Kathy) Reifschneider, Doug (Mary Ann) Reifschneider, and Debbie (Tim) Scace; great-grandchildren Aerica (Christopher) Barber, Adam Rice, Alanna Rice, Kelsey Sinn, Kristen Reifschneider, Jessica Reifschneider, Andrew Reifschneider, Garrett Reifschneider, Delaney Scace, and Ali Scace; step-great-grandchild T.J. Menard; great-great-grandchildren Tristan Barber and Gabriel Barber; and a sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Elmer Mueller, sister Esther Wetzel, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Mrs. Reifschneider was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo. She was retired from Paul’s Dry Goods. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. She is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ or the Monroe County Care and Rehab Center.

Levi Johnathan Voss, 10, of Bridgeton, Mo., died November 1, 2004, in Waterloo. He was born September 27, 1994, in St. Louis, the son of Bernhard and Victoria Voss of Bridgeton. He is survived by his parents, brother James Cody Voss, sister Olivia Louise Voss, grandparents Virlyn and Janice Allscheid of Waterloo and Bernhard and Margaret Voss of Richmond Heights, Mo., great-grandmother Nelda Allscheid of Waterloo, and aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Pastor William Groennert officiating.

Norman J. Stein, 70, of Columbia, died October 1, 2004, at his residence in Columbia. He married Carol Stein nee Wisa in 2001; she survives him. Mr. Stein was born May 22, 1934, in East St. Louis, the son of the late Walter M. and Alice Stein nee Houser. He is survived by his wife; sons Chris (Diane) Stein of Columbia, and Michael (Laurie) Stein of Hartland, Wisc.; daughter Kathy (David) Simeral of Dupo; step-sons Frank Jr. (Laura) Wisa of Florissant, Mo., David (Bonny) Wisa of St. Peters, Mo., James (Amanda) Wisa of Florissant, Mo.; step-daughters Jeanne (Steve) Fike of Chesterfield, Laura (Carl) Guempel of St. Louis, Karen (Daniel) Dunn of O’Fallon, Mo,; 23 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter Alice Marie Stein. Mr. Stein was retired from Trans World Airlines as a manager of maintenance planning. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Columbia Flying Club, St. Louis University High School Alumni, and he was a lifetime member of the East St. Louis Musicians Union. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. His funeral mass was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia, Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception School Education Fund.

Carl Eugene Towzen, 63, of Valmeyer, died October 2, 2004, in Valmeyer. He was married to JoAnn Towzen nee Lovitz; she survives him. Mr. Towzen was born September 18, 1941, in Granite City, the son of Lee Carl Edward Towzen and the late Irene Towzen nee White. He is survived by his father; wife; children Teena (Alex) Riechmann, of Waterloo, Carl Jr. (Dana) Towzen, of Valmeyer, and Kimberly Sampim, of Fairview Heights; grandchildren Clara Riechmann, Andrew Towzen, Aaron Towzen, Alex Towzen, Ryan Phillips and Chad Phillips; brothers Gary (Cora) Towzen, of S. Roxana, and Mark (Denise) Towzen, of Madison; sister Beverly (Joe) Lueckinig, of Venedy; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother and brother Brian Towzen. Mr. Towzen was an electrician at Metro East Industries in East St. Louis. Visitation and funeral services were at Quernheim Funeral Home, Pastor Stuart Rethwisch officiating. Memorials may be made to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.

Carl P. Wink, 86, of Columbia, died October 2, 2004, at his residence. He married the late Dorothy C. Wink in 1941. Mr. Wink was born March 9, 1918, in Columbia, the son of the late Charles and Anna Marie Wink nee Ferkel. He is survived by his sons Ralph C. (Eska) Wink of Gray, Maine, and Roger (Debbie) Wink of Columbia; daughters Carlene (Harvey) Kisro of Columbia, Marilyn Berghoefer of Columbia, Diane (Jerry) Thomas of Carterville, daughter Dorothy (Oscar) Stewart of St. Paul, Minn., sister Marie Wienhoff of Waterloo; sisters-in-law Hulda Wink of Waterloo, and Priscilla Vogt of Waterloo; brothers-in-law Carl (Lil) Vogt of Waterloo, and Ivo Vogt of Carterville; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, brothers Art Wink and Erwin Wink, and sister Hulda Shrader. Mr. Wink was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #6165. He was a farmer, bus driver and operated a local antique dealership. He was also a volunteer with the American Red Cross. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral mass was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Gibault Catholic High School or Immaculate Conception Education Fund.

Camillus “Cam” J. Markus, 77, of Waterloo, died October 3, 2004, in Red Bud. He was married to Delores Markus nee Kapp; she survives him. Mr. Markus was born June 30, 1927, in Aviston, the son of the late John and Catherine Markus nee Wehlage. He is survived by his wife; children Darlene (Bob) Niebruegge of Waterloo, Linda Luhr of Waterloo, and Michael (Dawn) Markus of Columbia; grandchildren Dan (Lauren) Niebruegge, Bill Niebruegge, Jason Luhr, Kacie Luhr, Matt Markus and Lance Markus; brothers Alfred (Rita) Markus, of Royal Oak, Mich., and Cyril (Edna) Markus, of Breese; sisters-in-law Rose Markus, Mary Markus and Mildred Kapp; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gregory Markus and Hubert Markus, and sisters Rosina Markus and Marcella Richter. Mr. Markus was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where he was in the Holy Name Society. He retired from Monsanto and was also a member of the Waterloo Knights of Columbus Council #1334. There was no visitation. His funeral mass was at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to Gibault Catholic High School in Waterloo, Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Allen D. Braswell, 52, of Waterloo, died October 4, 2004, in St. Louis. He was married to Lisa Braswell nee Windeknecht; she survives him. Mr. Braswell was born June 19, 1952, in Hayti, Mo., the son of the late Monroe M. and Ovelia Braswell nee Bush. He is survived by his wife; children Wesley M. Braswell, Andrew K. Braswell, Scott A. Braswell, Steven D. Braswell and Philip D. Braswell; grandson Lucas Thorpe; sisters Margie Russell, Dovie Cooper, Wyoma Gregg and Carlotta Camp; brothers Jerry Braswell, John Braswell and Truman Braswell; sister-in-law Barbara Braswell; mother- and father-in-law Barbara and Nelson Windeknecht; and many relatives, friends and co-workers. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles Braswell and sister Maxine Braswell. Mr. Braswell worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Waterloo VFW Post #6504. Visitation and funeral services were at Quernheim Funeral Home, Dr. Dennis R. Jones officiating. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

Pearl B. Mathews nee Goeddel, 92, of Waterloo, died October 4, 2004, in Waterloo. She was married to the late Lawrence T. Mathews. Mrs. Mathews was born August 22, 1912, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Jacob D. and Clara M. Goeddel nee Schlemmer. She is survived by grandchildren Christine Murphy of Farmersville, Christopher Mount of Charleston, Daniel Mount of Charleston and Joe Mount of Charleston; great-grandchildren; brother Melvin (Lucille) Goeddel of Waterloo; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Arlene R. Mount, a great-grandson and a great-granddaughter. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Her funeral mass was at St. Mary’s Church in Valmeyer, Fr. John Sesbitosi officiating. She is buried at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Madonnaville. Memorials may be made to Canterbury Manor Nursing Center.

Raymond A. Budde, 86, of Columbia, died October 5, 2004, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis. He married Velma Budde nee Lowry in 1943; she survives him. Mr. Budde was born October 19, 1917, in Belleville, the son of the late Ed and Anna Budde nee Weber. He is survived by his wife; son Michael (Vivian) Budde of Columbia; grandsons Gregory Budde of Columbia, and Jeffrey (Laura) Budde of Columbia; great-grandchildren Justin Budde, Kyle Budde and Cole Budde; sister Marie Meckenstrum of Belleville; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 12 brothers and sisters. Mr. Budde attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was retired from Boeing and was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Belleville and Columbia Senior Citizens. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. A memorial service was held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fr. Steve Gira officiating. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception School Education fund.
