86-year-old Rt. 1 McLeansboro resident, Georgia Fern Smith died at 1 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2003 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. She had worked at the former Elder Manufacturing Company in McLeansboro for seven years.
Survivors include her husband, Charles A. Smith; sons, Larry Smith of Independence, Mo., Edward O. Smith of New Boston, Il., and Steve Smith of Mount Vernon, Il.; a daughter, Charlene Carter of Evansville, Ind.; a sister, Katheleen Phillips of McLeansboro; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services for Georgia Fern Smith were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with burial in Union Cemetery near Dahlgren.
Visitation was from 4 til 8 Tuesday evening, Dec. 9, at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
Leonard Leroy "Kayo" Robertson
69 year old Wayne City resident, Leonard Leroy "Kayo" Robertson, died at 6:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6th, 2003 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Surviving are his wife, Leda Rae Robertson;2 sons, Jim Caldwell and Lindy Caldwell both of Sims; a daughter, Theresa Eastep of Watson, Il.; a sister, Minnie Mae Barrow of Oakland City, Indiana; 14 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8th at the Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City. Burial in Thomason Cemetery.

Donald R. Payne
56 year old Grayville resident, formerly of West Salem, Donald R. Payne, died Friday, Dec. 5th, 2003 at Deaconess Hosptial in Evansville. He was a factory worker at Champion Laboratories in West Salem.
Surviving are 3 daugthers, Marla Kilgore, Carla O'Dell and Kristy Payne, a brother, James Payne; and 5 grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8th at the Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville.
Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7th at the Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville.
James J. Briggs
85 year old Albion resident, James J. Briggs, died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6th, 2003 at Rest Haven Manor Nursing Home in Albion.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8th at Nales Funeral Home in Albion. Burial in Graceland Cemetery.
Visitation was from noon Monday, Dec. 8th until the time of service at Nales Funeral Home in Albion.

Luther Dale Shelton
79-year-old Fairfield resident, Luther Dale Shelton died at 2:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at Casey Care Center, Mt. Vernon.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Mae Shelton of Fairfield; three daughters, Patricia Hunt of Peoria, Linda Bopp of Fairfield, and Shell Kaufman of Dahlgren; one sister, Beulah Bobbit of Peoria, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Luther Dale Shelton were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Victory General Baptist Church northwest of Fairfield with burial at Victory Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the American Legion of McLeansboro.
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the Victory General Baptist Church.
Barbara Bunnage
90-year-old Ellery resident, Barbara Bunnage died at 12:15 Friday morning, Dec. 5, 2003 at Burgin Manor in Olney.
Survivors include three nephews, James Bunnage of Ellery, Greg Richardson of Rockford, Il., and Ed Cox of Naples, Fla., a sister-in-law, Ruby White of Griffith, Ind., a great-niece Anne Annis of Olney, several great-nephews and two great-great-nephews.

48-year-old Blanchard, MIchigan resident, Karen Kay Lacy died on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 at the Central MIchigan Community Hospital in Mount Pleasant MIchigan. She had worked as a secretary at Montabella Schools for nearly 15 years.
Survivors include her children, Bethany Allison Lacy of Blanchard, Mi., Ann Claire Lacy of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Marissa Johnette Lacy of Blanchard; her parents, John and Shirley Cox of McLeansboro; a sister, Robby Lynn White of Georgia and a special friend, Marilyn Judd of St. Louis, MIchigan.

62-year-old Golden Gate native, Wilene Paul of Wright City, Mo. died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 at her home. She had been employed at a nursing home in Missouri.

80-year-old Springerton resident, Hazel M. Carterdied Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville. She retired in 1985 from Airtex Products in Fairfield after 42 years of service.
