Alfred C. Edler, 81, of Chalfin Bridge, died August 11, 2004, in Chalfin Bridge. Mr. Edler was married to Marlow Edler nee Kuergeleis; she preceded him in death. He was born May 28, 1923, the son of the late Charles and Rose Edler nee Hartmann. He is survived by his children Don (Ellen) Edler, of Waterloo, and Bob (Judith) Edler, of Valmeyer; grandchildren Brian Edler, Brad Edler, Luke Edler and Emily Edler; sister Florence Maronn, of Kewanee; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Mr. Edler was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Maeystown. A memorial service was held at St. John United Church of Christ in Maeystown, Pastor Ivan Horn officiating. In accordance with Mr. Edler’s wishes, his body was donated to Washington University Medical Center. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. John United Church of Christ.
Mary B. Dashner nee Irose, 88, of Waterloo, died August 6, 2004, in Columbia. Mrs. Dashner was married to James E. Dashner; he preceded her in death. She was born December 29, 1915, in Chester, the daughter of the late Mark V. and Gertrude A. Irose nee McDermott. She is survived by her son James J. (Susan) Dashner, of House Springs, Mo.; grandchildren Angela (Ronald) Weber, of Columbia, Jamie (Michael) Reiter, of O’Fallon, Mo., and James M. Dashner, Ballwin, Mo; step-daughters Karen (John) McLaughlin, of Eureka, Mo., and Michelle (Eric) Colley, of Imperial, Mo.; great-grandchildren Brendan Weber, Graham Weber, Lindsey Reiter, Michael McLaughlin, Shannon McLaughlin, Joshua Colley, Rachel Colley, and Tom (Michelle) Reiter; and a niece, nephew and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Michael T. Dashner, brother Charles Irose, and sisters-in-law Doris Irose and Bessie Dashner. She and her husband operated a tavern in Renault for 20 years. She also was retired from the Monroe County Nursing Home. Her visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at Ss. Marshall Ruehle, 51, of Waterloo, died August 5, 2004, in Red Bud. He was born August 23, 1952, the son of the late Harold R. Ruehle and Ruth L. Becker nee Freimuth. He is survived by his children Chad (Kristie) Ruehle, of Waterloo, Nathan Ruehle, of Waterloo, Tracy (Steve) Miller, of Waterloo; grandchildren Alicia, Blake, Keegan, Emily, Alyssa and Alayna; sisters Nancy (Shelby) Mathes, of Waterloo, and Patricia (David) O’Riley, of Waterloo; step-father Elmer Becker, of Smithton; dear friend Linda Wiegand, of Waterloo; and aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Quinley E. Burkhardt, 87, of Maeystown, died August 3, 2004, in Red Bud. He was born September 2, 1916, in Maeystown, the son of the late George F. and Emma C. Burkhardt nee Floerke. He is survived by his sisters Dorothy Parsons, of Rohnert Park, Calif., and Delvera (William) Eisele, of Fairview Heights; brother Clyde (Pearl) Burkhardt, of Waterloo; nieces Portia (John) Stueve and Sheila (David) Zainer; nephews Allen Parson and Steven (Dee Anne) Burkhardt; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Vernell C. Burkhardt and nice Phyllis Seawell. Mr. Burkhardt was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Maeystown. Patricia L. Baer nee Black, 70, of Waterloo, died July 29, 2004, in Waterloo. Mrs. Baer was married to Charles M. Baer; he survives her. She was born October 16, 1933, in Jennings, Mo., the daughter of the late Clarence and Beulah Black nee Mott. She is survived by her husband; children Charles (Donellen) Baer, of West Frankfurt, and Viki (Ronald) Goodnick, of Waterloo; grandchildren Emily Baer, Ethan Baer, Sarah Baer, Bailey Goodnick, Logan Goodnick and Thomas Goodnick; brother Les (Nancy) Black, of Charleston, S.C.; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Laura Fecte and Nora Hilboldt. Mrs. Baer was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo, Angels Girls Club, and Holy Family Mother’s Club in Cahokia. She was retired from Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. Her funeral mass was at Ss. Geraldine O. Krause nee Werling, 88, of Waterloo, formerly of New Port Richey, Fla., died July 29, 2004, in Waterloo. Mrs. Krause was married to Albin E. Krause and previously Lester J. Mehrmann; they both preceded her in death. She was born October 8, 1915, in Waterloo, the daughter of the late George and Frieda Werling nee Hoffmann. She is survived by her sisters June Degener and Marge Bottiaux, both of Waterloo; brother Jules Werling, of Waterloo; niece and godchild Sandy Pinson, of Caseyville; nephew Steve Degener, of Waterloo; godchild Dale Werling; four sisters-in-law; a great-niece, great-nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Albin and Lester, and brothers George Werling Jr. and Nelson Werling. Mrs. Kraus was a member of United Church of Christ in New Port Richey, Fla. She was also in the Order of the Eastern Star, Queen City Chapter, Fairview Heights; Order of White Shrine, Cedar Shrine, Belleville; Daughter of the Nile, East St. Louis; and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. There were a private visitation and funeral at Quernheim Funeral Home. She is interred at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Fairview Heights.
Joe Dale Crase, 61, of Dupo, died July 28, 2004, at Barnes-Jewish Medical Center in St. Louis. Mrs. Crase was married to Laverne Crase nee Lorance; she survives him. He was born June 4, 1943, in Thayer, Mo., the son of the late Lawrence and Calma Crase nee Sandridge. He is survived by his wife, sons Brian Crase, of Dupo, and Joseph Crase, of Dupo; daughter Debbie (Don) Beaver, of Waterloo; brothers Glenn (Marcella) Crase, of Thayer, Mo., Bill (Linda) Crase, of Thayer, Mo., Jim (Judy) Crase, of Highland, Darrell (Jan) Crase of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; sisters Lita Forrester, of Thayer, Mo., Nita Hinkle, of Thayer, Mo., and Janet (Chris) Brewer, of Fenton, Mo.; sisters-in-law Barbara (Tom) Henderson, of St. Peters, Mo., Sharon (Ron) Balance, of Clovis, NM; cousin Don (Pat) Crase, of St. Louis; grandchildren Barry Crase, Troy Crase, Jordan Crase, Ashley Beaver, Caitlyn Beaver and Loren Beaver; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles Crase. He was a retired auto mechanic and worked at Famous-Barr Tire Center in St. Louis. Jack L. Toenjes, 58, of Gilbert, Ariz., formerly of Columbia, died July 28, 2004. Mr. Toenjes was married to Barbara Toenjes nee Schon; she survives him. He was born April 20, 1946, in Columbia, the son of the late Arthur and Louise Toenjes nee Saul. He is survived by his wife; son Justin (Sonja) Toenjes, of Gilbert, Ariz.; daughters Laura (Dale) Hartman and Lisa Toenjes, both of Gilbert, Ariz.; grandsons Seth Hartman, Ethan Hartman and Keaton Toenjes, all of Gilbert, Ariz.; sister Jean Marie Metter, of Columbia; brothers James (Carol) Toenjes, of Bonne Terre, Mo., and Jay C. (DeAnn) Toenjes, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; mother-in-law Annette Schon, of Los Angeles; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Clem J. Metter and father-in-law Merrill Schon. Mr. Toenjes was cremated in Gilbert, Ariz.
