Armin C. Heiken, 78, of Columbia, died February 16, 2005, at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis. He was born April 15, 1926, in Waterloo, to Emil and Catherine Heiken nee Stockel. He married Marcella Heiken nee Sander in 1950. He is survived by his wife; sons James (Lorrie) Heiken of Round Rock, Tex., and Thomas Heiken of Waterloo; grandchildren Amanda Heiken, Tyler Heiken, Tanner Heiken, Matthew Heiken; and sister Irene (Harold) Dannehold of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Heiken was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia. He retired as fleet manager of Fred Broeg Chevrolet in St. Louis. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #6165 – Third Degree, Fr. Charles Hellrung Assembly #1529 – Fourth Degree, VFW Post #7980 in Millstadt, and was active with Khoury League. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home in Columbia. A funeral mass was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. He is buried at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Columbia. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception School Education Fund.
Mildred Jehling nee Schaefer, 81, of Fountain, died February 16, 2005, in Fountain. She was born June 26, 1923, in Merrimac, the daughter of the late William H. and Katie Schaefer nee Stumpf. She was married to the late Lester H. Jehling for 56 years. She is survived by her children Jeanette (Richard) McClellan of Valmeyer, Kathy (Larry) Washausen of Waterloo, Bonnie (Richard) Valentine of Waterloo, and Lori (James) Burns of Plainfield; grandchildren Keith (Donna) Washausen, Marc (Amy) McClellan, Kevin (Allison) Washausen, Wendy (Paul) Hill, Lana (Steve) Reichert, John Valentine, Janese Valentine, Denise (Matt) Oleson, Marshall Schellhardt, Madison Burns and Cassidy Burns; great-grandchildren Jeremy Hill, Leah Hill, Kasey Washausen, Paige Washausen, Jacob Washausen, Bailey Reichert, Abigail Reichert, Trevor McClellan and Dakota Valentine; and sisters-in-law Bertha Jehling and Dorothy Schaefer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, great-grandson Hunter McClellan, sister Laverta Goldschmidt, brothers Herbert Schaefer, Earl Schaefer and Clarence Schaefer, and one brother in infancy. Mrs. Jehling was a member of St. John UCC in Valmeyer. She participated in Monday and Thursday bowling leagues in Columbia, was a member of the Monroe County Relay for Life ‘Sure Cure’ Team, and she baked wedding cakes out of her home. Mrs. Jehling loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her country. She enjoyed quilting, bowling, playing Kloepper, needle work and sewing. Visitation and funeral services were at Quernheim Funeral Home, Pastor David Riebeling officiating. She is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. George D. Drexler, 74, of Columbia, died February 17, 2005, in Columbia. He was born July 15, 1930, the son of the late Sigmund and Geneva Drexler nee Doering. He married Marjorie Ann Drexler in 1986. He is survived by his children Dennis E. (Carolyn) Drexler of St. Louis, Julie G. (George) Chakides of St. Charles, Sarah L. Andrews of Belleville, and George A. (Michele) Drexler of High Ridge, Mo.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters Delores Thomas of St. Charles, Mary Ann Phillips of Elk Ridge, Mo., Carol J. Thaxton of Ferguson, Mo., and Susan E. (Kenneth) Meyer of Ferguson, Mo.; and brother Richard C. (Susan) Drexler of Ballwin. He was preceded in death by his brother Sigmund J. Drexler Jr. Mr. Drexler was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Columbia. He was employed by Anheuser-Busch Inc. in St. Louis as a beer brewer. He was a member of Brewers and Malters Local #6, American Legion Post #299, and Columbia Sister Cities. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pastor Steven Theiss officiating. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Rubylee E. Sager nee Wood, 79, formerly of Columbia, died February 17, 2005, in Murphysboro. She was born June 16, 1925, in Pittsburg, Kan., the daughter of the late Earl and Ruby Wood nee Cameron. She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands Joseph Vogt and Lester H. Sager, respectively. She is survived by her children Joseph S. Vogt of Columbia, Rubymaria (Jerry) Kish of Glenburnie, Md., James G. (Jean) Vogt of Breese, Becky (Warren) Reagan of Fredericktown, Md., Runnell (David) Graff of Ava, Roselle (Russel) Howeter of Glenburnie, Md., John (Joni) Vogt of Ava, Carol ‘Sis’ Sager of Columbia, and Lester Lee Sager; 22 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and nephew Michael Reagan. Mrs. Sager had been a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and was a member of American Legion Post #581 Auxiliary. Visitation and funeral services were at Lawlor Funeral Home, Fr. Norine Marie Schmidt nee Tuhro, 88, of Columbia, died February 18, 2005, at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis. She was born February 18, 2005, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Charles and Clara Tuhro nee Gehl. She married second husband Norman Schmidt in 1961. She was preceded in death by her first husband Nick Meier. She is survived by her son Donald (Christine) Meier of St. Louis; grandchildren Steven Meier of St. Louis and David Meier of St. Louis; sister-in-law Mabel (John) Offermann of Columbia; and nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband. Mrs. Schmidt was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, as well as Columbia Gymnastic Association Auxiliary. Jerry F. Landgraf, 62, of Columbia, died February 19, 2005, at his residence. He was born November 20, 1942, the son of the late Carl A. Landgraf and Pearl Landgraf nee Juengling of Columbia. He married Kathleen Landgraf nee Neumeyer in 1966. He is survived by his sons Bradley Landgraf of Columbia and John Landgraf of Columbia; brother Carl (Mary) Landgraf of Columbia; sister Janey Edmiston of Manchester, Mo.; sister-in-law Alice (Cleon) West of Waterloo; brother-in-law John (Pam) Neumeyer of Waterloo; grandchildren Hayden Landgraf and Jacob Johnson; nieces and nephews Dawn, Jodi, Abby, Cris, Cami, Bryan, Terri, Colin and Brent; and an aunt, uncles, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father. Mr. Landgraf was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ. He retired last year as a captain with the Columbia Police Department. He was a past member of Columbia Volunteer Fire Department and past director of Columbia Emergency Medical Services. He was a charter member and first president of the Fraternal Order of Police – Monroe County, a lifetime member of the Illinois Police Association, a member of the Police Pension Board and Columbia Booster Club. He coached in the Columbia Khoury League and the Immaculate Conception School basketball program. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia, Pastor Michael Dixon officiating. He is buried at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery. Howard E. Knapp, 75, of Nokimis, Fla., died February 19, 2005. He was born April 4, 1929, in Erie, Penn. He is survived by his son Howard E. Knapp II of Columbia; daughters Linda Stuckmeyer of Temple, Tex., and Laurie Grubb of Waterloo; brother Leroy Knapp of Jacksonville, Fla., sister Doris Schuwerk of Erie, Penn.; and five grandchildren. Mr. Knapp retired as a mechanical engineer. He was a member of the Greater Sarasota Sertoma Club, and the Elks, Eagles and Masons. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Jacqueline M. Range, 52, of Waterloo, died February 19, 2005, in Waterloo. She was born December 9, 1953, in East St. Louis, to Evelyn D. Range nee Riebeling of Dupo and the late Henry J. Range. She is survived by her mother; daughters Dawn M. (Tony) Bruce of East Carondelet, and Hollie Hughes of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren Hollie, Lauren and Kyle; dearest friend Dian Borowy of Waterloo; four sisters Phyllis Cox of Phoenix, Ariz., Kathy McGuire of Waterloo, Barbara Clack of Hillsboro, Mo., and Ginger Fouts of Cedar Hill, Mo.; and brother Eugene “Buddy” Range of Cedar Hill, Mo. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry J. ‘Bud’ Range. There was no visitation or funeral. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society.
Karen Hutchings Kuehner, 63, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., died February 20, 2005, at her home. She was born November 28, 1941, in Belleville, the daughter of the late Charles and Teresa Hutchings nee McDonald. She was married to Neil Kuehner for 42 years. She is survived by her husband, son Timothy (Angie) Kuehner of Plano, Tex., daughter Carrie (Brett) Baird of Flower Mound, Tex., brother Barry (Dana) Hutchings of Waterloo, sister Connie (Bill) Janson of Columbia, and grandchildren Josh Kuehner, Jake Kuehner, Joey Kuehner and Jonathan Kuehner. Mrs. Kuehner was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Hot Springs Village, Ark. A memorial mass was held at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo.
Lee Mark Raeber, 39, of St. Louis, formerly of Waterloo, died February 21, 2005, in St. Louis. He was born May 12, 1965, in Red Bud, the son of Orlou (Robert) Burkemper nee Reitz and the late Glenn Raeber. He is survived by his parents; brothers Mark (Marlou) Raeber of Millstadt, Joel (Helen) Raeber of Marietta, Ga., Glyn (Beverly) Raeber of St. Charles, and Michael (Carol) Raeber of O’Fallon; sisters Ruth Raeber Layton of Gillespie, Karen (David) Kneib of St. Peters, Mo., Jane (Rich) Drusch of Florissant, Mo., Ann (David) Brandt of Phoenix, Ariz., Ellen (Lee) Roew of St. Louis, and Mary (Troy) Eppinger of Columbia; 21 nieces and nephews, and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
