Dorothy Vogt, 80, of Valmeyer, died Dec. 3, 2009 in Columbia. She was born May 20, 1929 in Harrisonville, the daughter of late Ignatius and Arlou L. (nee Mueller) Ruby. Mrs. Vogt is survived by a daughter, Trudi (Allyn) Rohlfing; daughter-in-law, Judy (Perry) Vogt; step-son Steven (Lorrie) Koch Jr.; grandchildren, Angie (Dale) Wiegard, Laura (David) Mortimore, Tom (Tammy) Vogt, Michael (friend Keli) Vogt, Jim (Kim) Vogt, Justin (Cody) Rohlfing, Garrett Rohlfing and Scott Rohlfing; step-granddaughter Linley Koch; great-grandchildren Claire Wiegard, Matt Wiegard, Katie Mortimore, Bryan Mortimore, Megan Vogt and Emily Vogt; and sisters, Judy (William) Tipton and Joyce Reuber; along with sister-in-laws, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lloyd “Shorty” Vogt and Steven A. Koch, Sr.; son, Perry “Bud” Vogt; and great-grandson, Brandon Vogt. Mrs. Vogt was an avid card player and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation and the funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home. Rowan W. L. Potts, 70, of Columbia, died Dec. 3, 2009. He was born Aug. 3, 1939, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late Harry and Eleanor (Dorsey) Potts. Mr. Potts is survived by a son, Stephen Potts of Waterloo; and grandchildren Garrett, Samantha and Bailie Potts. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte (McGuire) Potts; a son, Kenneth Potts; and brothers, Jerry Potts and Harry Potts. Mr. Potts served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and had also been a self-employed truck driver. Private family services were held. Mr. Potts was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
Vera Rodenhofer, nee Mize, 86, of St. Louis, Mo., died Dec. 4, 2009, at Bethesda Southgate Nursing Center. She was born Oct. 1923, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Floyd and Bernice (Henson) Mize. She was married to the late Arthur Rodenhofer, who died in 2001. Mrs. Rodenhofer is survived by her children, Dennis (Sondra) Rodenhofer of Swansea, Carole (Hal) Faerber, Linda (Gary) Juengst, Janine Bearden, Darryl (Dana) Rodenhofer and Sheryl Rodenhofer, all of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Linda Rodenhofer of St. Louis, Mo.; sister-in-law, Virginia Mize, of Columbia; 26 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Ann Rodenhofer; a son, Don Rodenhofer, brothers. Virgil Mize and Ron Mize; and a sister, Betty Lou Doehler. Visitation and funeral were at Lawlor Funeral Home with Pastor Douglas Cripe officiating. Mrs. Rodenhofer was buried at Valhalla Gardens Of Memory in Belleville. James E. Woodcock, 68, of Red Bud, died Dec. 5, 2009. He was born Sept. 15, 1941 in Belleville, the son of the late Elmer and Lillian (nee Johnson) Woodcock. Mr. Woodcock is survived by his wife, Wanda Woodcock; daughters, Cynthia (Michael) Williams and Jami Hayes; grandchildren, Alexandra Balsarotti, Nicholas Balsarotti, Connor Williams, Cole Williams, Jeremiah Hayes and Autumn Hayes; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill and Judy Tipton, Kelly (Tim) Richards and Nicole (Scott) Tallent; and special friends, Skip and Denise. Mr. Woodcock was a veteran of the U.S. Marines. According to his wishes, private family services were set for a later date. Funeral arrangements were handled by Quernheim Funeral Home. Christopher Michael Howk, 32, of Red Bud, died on Dec. 6, 2009 at Memorial Hospital in Chester. He was born Jan. 17, 1977 in St. Louis, the son of Arthur and Sandra (nee Greenwalt) Howk. He married Angela Germain on July 1, 2000. In addition to his wife, Mr. Howk is survived by his father and step-mother, Arthur and Nancy Howk; mother and step-father, Sandra and Ronald Gesiriech; children, Aubrey Murden, Francois Howk, Christopher Michael Howk II and Kristian Miller; brothers, Daniel Irvin II, Patrick Beeler and Ronald Gesiriech Jr.; sisters, Dana Kukorola, Stephanie Gesiriech and Christi Schuler; grandfather, Arthur Hawk; and grandmother, Leilani M. Greenwalt; along with nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Ann Warren; brother, Michael Robert Beeler; grandfather, Steve Greenwalt; and grandmothers Marietta and Eileen Howk. Mr. Howk was a carpenter for Local 169 in East St. Louis and was a member of the Lake View Southern Baptist Church in Swansea. Visitation was at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud. Ronald Dennis “Ronzo” Barlow, 51, of Dupo, died Dec. 6, 2009 in Dupo. He was born March 31, 1958 in St. Louis, the son of Mildred Barlow and the late Cletus Barlow. In addition to his mother, Mr. Barlow is survived by his mother, Mildred Barlow; children, Justin (Jodie) Barlow, Nichole Barlow, Tasha Barlow, Minda Judy; special friend, Barbara Judy; sisters, Paula Barlow, Debbie (Dan) Malin and Rene’ Barlow; brothers, Kenneth (Betty) Barlow, Bill (Pam) Barlow and Harvey Barlow; and grandchildren, Taiza Jo Barlow, Aaden Judy, Jack Barlow, Jonathan Barlow and Benjamin Barlow; along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Cletus Barlow; sister, Brenda Reynolds; and a nephew, Ryan Reynolds. He was a self-employed auto upholsterer. Visitation was at Dashner-Leesman in Dupo. Robert L. Cox, 67, of Red Bud, died on Dec. 6, 2009 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville. He was born Feb. 6, 1942 in East St. Louis, the son of the late Raymond and Mildred (nee Carl) Cox. He married Jackie Bishop in 1966. In addition to his wife, Mr. Cox is survived by his children, John Cox and Laura (Kenneth) Bolhofner; a brother, Carl (Janis) Cox; and grandchildren, Nickolas Mezyk and Emily Bolhofner; along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Sara Grace Bolhofner. Mr. Cox was an electrician for Shell Oil Refinery in Wood River for 30 years. He was a past member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Centerville, a member of the I.B.E. W. Local 309 and Senior Circle in Red Bud. He loved to travel, read, spending time with his family, fishing and nature. Visitation and funeral were at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud with Father Donald Blaes officiating. Mr. Cox was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fairview Heights.
Ellen L. Kipping, nee Lerch, 78, of rural Foster Pond, died Dec. 9, 2009 in Columbia. She was born Oct. 27, 1931 in Harrisonville, the daughter of the late Adam and Frances (nee Niebruegge) Lerch. Mrs. Kipping is survived by her husband, Spencer Kipping; children, David (Nancy) Kipping, Dennis Kipping, Lori (Matt) Doerr, Robert (Jenny) Kipping and Edward (Cathy) Kipping; a sister, Verona (Clarence) Sendelbeck; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sister, Beulah (Leo) Sendelbeck; brother, Henry Lerch; and a niece, Jane Lerch. Mrs. Kipping was a former Monroe County Circuit Clerk. She was a member of St. John UCC in Valmeyer and the Monroe County Democratic Club. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at St. John UCC of Valmeyer with Pastor David Riebeling officiating. Mrs. Kipping was buried at the church’s cemetery. Arlou Steele, nee Wischmeier, 79, of Columbia, died Dec. 10, 2009, at Canterbury Manor Nursing Center in Waterloo. She was born Sept. 3, 1930 in Waterloo. She married Donald P. Steele in 1954 in Waterloo. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Steele is survived by her children, Craig Paul (Tonya) Steele of Columbia, Terri Lea Hargis of Valmeyer and Jan Marie (Gary) Toon of Columbia; grandchildren, Kyle P. Steele, Cole A. Hargis, Jill A. Steele, Jenna M. Toon and Jamie M. Toon; and a sister, Merle Wischmeier of Waterloo; along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Lydia (nee Schewe) and Clarence Stoner. Mrs. Steele was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia. Arlou was a homemaker and was also employed at Weilbacher's Grocery Store in downtown Columbia. She enjoyed bowling and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral was at St. Paul UCC in Columbia with Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. Mrs. Steele was buried at Jefferson Barracks National in St. Louis, Mo. Evelyn F. Benyo, nee Bringaze, 85, died Dec. 9, 2009 in Waterloo. She was born Nov. 15, 1924 in Quincy, the daughter of the late Walter and Rose Helen (nee Spohr) Bringaze. Mrs. Benyo is survived by her children, Andrew (Peggy) Benyo Jr. of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; Thomas (Linda) Benyo of Willow Springs, Mo., David (Vicki) Benyo of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Rose Ann (Richard) Kloeppinger of Washington, Mo.; Joseph (Sandy) Benyo of Waterloo, John (Rhonda) Benyo of Valmeyer and Christopher Benyo of Naperville; a brother; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Benyo; a grandson; a brother’ and a sister-in-law. Mrs. Benyo was a former administrative assistant who was a member of the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Waterloo’s Mary and Martha Society, the SPPS Choir and Waterloo Country Club. Visitation is Friday, Dec. 18, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Saturday, Dec. 19, at 10 a.m., at SS Peter and Paul Church in Waterloo. Mrs. Benyo will be buried at the church’s cemetery.
