Edith E. Trost, nee Saucier, 95, of Valmeyer, died Dec. 8, 2009 in Waterloo. She was born July 5, 1014 in Denver, Colo., the daughter of the late Cameron and Orsina (nee Meyers) Saucier. Mrs. Trost is survived by her children, Robert (Jewell) Trost and Dee Ann Trost; grandchildren Mark W. Trost, Paul D. (Meredith) Trost, Melanie A. (Larry) Ellis, Michael D. (Brooke) Miller and William A. (Lisa) Miller; and great-grandchildren Colter and Lily Ellis, Charlotte, Gage and Reid Miller and Evan and Ivy Miller; along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Trost; and three sisters. Mrs. Trost was a member of St. John UCC of Maeystown, a charter member Home and Community Extension and was the first Monroe County Public Health nurse. Visitation was at St. John UCC of Maeystown. A funeral service was conducted with Pastor Patrick Poole officiating. Mrs. Trost was buried at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to her church.

Adolph G. Hirsch, 76, of Waterloo, died Dec. 12, 2009 in St. Louis, Mo. He was born Jan. 1, 1933 in Chalfin Bridge, the son of the late Charles and Hilda (nee Trost) Hirsch. Mr. Hirsch is survived by his wife, Pearl (nee Voelker) Hirsch; children, Allen (Sara) Hirsch, Dean (Mary) Hirsch, Kevin (Linda) Hirsch, Karen (Leroy) Roider, Kathleen (Philip) Horn and Karla (Ryan) Bulman; grandchildren, Sam and Pete Hirsch, Ryan and Nathan Hirsch, Jessie Hirsch and Stephanie (Nathan) Keller, Ashley (Shawn) Hewitt and Kyle Roider, Bradley and Tyler Horn and Charles and Anna Bulman; great-grandchild, Jacquelyn Keller; step-grandchildren Jessica (Jeremy) Dressel; step-great-grandchildren, Evan and Peyton Dressel; brothers-in-law, Wilbert (Marie) Voelker and Vernon (Esther) Brandt; and beloved dog, Charlie; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by sisters, Iona Roever, Elaine Hergenroeder and Marie Brandt. Mr. Hirsch was a lifelong farmer and retired dairy farmer who enjoyed listening to music, especially that of his wife, Pearl. He attended St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo and was a member of the Monroe County Farm Bureau, Monroe County Pork Producers, Dairy Farmers of America and FFA Alumni. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Friday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul UCC of Waterloo with Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. Mr. Hirsch will be buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to his church.

John M. Vunetich Sr., 72, of Waterloo, died Dec. 11, 2009 in Red Bud. He was born Dec. 18, 1936 in East St. Louis, the son of the late Joseph and Alice (nee Steiner) Vunetich. Mr. Vunetich is survived by his wife, Barbara (nee Milliniks) Vunetich; children Cindy (Kurt) DePoy, John (Montana) Vunetich Jr. and Debbie (Phillip) Argus; grandchildren . Corey and Brittany Argus, Brendan and Travis DePoy and Bailey Vunetich; sisters Josephine Goodman, Rosie Icide and Judy (Jim) Peters; and sister-in-law Pat Vunetich. He was preceded in death by brothers Joseph Vunetich, Charlie Vunetich and Raymond S. Vunetich Sr.; and sisters Francis Johnson and Edna Mae Pocuca. Mr. Vunetich was a veteran f the U.S. Navy who served aboard the USS Warrington DD 843 from 1955 to 1959. He returned home and worked at Union Electric Co. from 1959 through 1995. John was a member of the Operating Engineers 148 Union, Operating Engineers 148 Retiree's Club, Compasses Guild Union Electric, Mason's Gothic Lodge 852, American Legion Post 784 of Cahokia, VFW Post 6628 of Panama, the East St. Louis Low Twelve Club, Flying Legionnaires Club of Cahokia, Centerville Men’s Club and a Charter Member of USS Warrington DD 843 Association. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral with Pastor Matt Friz officiating. Mr. Vunetich was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Paul Joseph Frey, 82, died Dec. 11, 2009 at his residence in Georgia. A native of Lawrence, Neb., he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Lienert Frey. Survivors include his wife, Carol Frey; children Sep (Tina) Frey of Colbert, Missy (Billy) Pittard of Winterville, Tom (Kimberly) Frey of Winterville, Tim (Debbie) Frey of Winterville and Tess (Bryan) Vaughn of Athens; sisters Rose Simpson of Columbia, Pat Glauber of Waterloo and Kaye Rickert of Leheigh Acers, Fla.; and grandchildren Adam, Serah, Eric (wife Karen), Alix, Kyle, J.T., Emily, Dawson, Caleb, Ellie, Abbey, McKinzie, Eli, Gwennie and Kendall. He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Sophia Reiter, Jose Erndle and Ann Battaglia, two brothers, Ed Frey and Phil Frey. Mr. Frey served as a Merchant Marine during Word War II and in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return, he graduated from the University of Illinois and retired in 1986 as a fisheries biologist with the Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Frey attended the UGA Catholic Center. A graveside service was held at the Frey Family Cemetery in Winterville, Ga., the home of Paul and Carol Frey. The family received friends Sunday, December 13 at the residence.

Ludmila Mary Baldree, nee Kriz, 85, of Waterloo died Dec. 11, 2009 at Canterbury Manor Nursing Center. She was born March 31, 1924 in Brainard, Neb., the daughter of the late Fred and Mary (nee Havlovic) Kriz. Mrs. Baldree graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital / Creighton University School of Nursing in 1945. She then joined the U.S. Army Nursing Corps as a second lieutenant and later became one of the first licensed nurse anesthetist in the state. She met her husband, the late Dr. Charles Edward “Pinky” Baldree Jr. while working at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville. They were married Oct. 15, 1949. Survivors include sons David (Mary) Baldree of Waterloo and Mark (Kathleen) Baldree of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Mary (Kenneth Lovelett) Baldree of Albuquerque, NM,; a brother, Richard (Lynn) Kriz; and a sister-in-law, Patricia (Ted) Kriz; granddaughters Amelia, Elizabeth and Alison Baldree of Waterloo, Alexandra and Meredith Baldree of Phoenix, Patricia (Markus) Holzherr-Duncker of Germany and Nicolette (Tom Strong) Baldree of Warwick, RI. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Belleville, the Belleville Elks and the Belle-Scott Committee. Visitation is Friday, Dec. 18, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the DeFabio Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be Saturday, DEc. 19, at 10 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Churchin Belleville. Mr. Baldree will be buried at at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Southern Illinois

Judy M. Kennedy, 65, of Prairie du Rocher died Dec. 13, 2009 in Red Bud. She was born July 3, 1944 in Red Bud, the daughter of the late Robert and Mary (nee LaChance) Hunter. Mrs. Kennedy is survived by her children, Bill Kennedy Jr. and Becky (Charlie) Cowell; brothers Robert (Carolyn) Hunter and Ron (Phyllis) Hunter; a sister , Sue (Darrell) Schmieg; and grandchildren Erin (fiancé Brian) Kennedy, Josh Kennedy, Allison Kennedy, Kayla Cowell and Jacob Cowell; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Kennedy Sr.. Mrs. Kennedy owned and operated Judy’s Beauty Salon in Prairie du Rocher for 45 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher, American Legion Auxiliary and the Randolph County Farm Bureau. Visitation was at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud. Funeral mass was at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Daniel J. Jurek officiating.

Robert L. “Bob” Mollet, 78, of Modoc, died Dec. 11, 2009 in Waterloo. He was born August 1, 1931 in Modoc, the son of the late Emil and Ethel (nee Novall) Mollet. Mr. Mollet is survived by his wife, Anna “Babe” Mollet, whom is married in 1955; children David “Rudy” Mollet (special friend Janet Layne), Mike “Bugs” (Barbie) Mollet, Vernon (Nellie) Mollet, Daniel “Gus” Mollet Sr., Janet (Rick) Walker, Dale (Stacy) Mollet, Christina “Tina” (Chuck) LaChance and Paul (Erica) Mollet; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Mollet; brothers Ivan Mollet and Elvan (Karen) Mollet; 19 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Gerald “Jughead” Mollet; sisters Margaret Mollet and Anna Mollet; and brothers Gilbert, Olan, Vernon and Harold Mollet. Mr. Mollet served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a farmer, a laborer in Local 925 and attended St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Modoc. Bob was a member of American Legion Post 622 and formerly with the Fort Chartres Sportsman Club. Funeral Mass was at St. Leo’s Catholic Church.

Armentine Agnes Koch, nee Levin, 105, of Dupo, died Dec. 14, 2009 in Columbia. She was the daughter of the late George Jule and Agnes (nee Flatiron) Levin.Mrs. Koch is survived by her daughter, Virginia Jeffery; sons Kenneth George Koch, Jule Wayne Koch; 13 grandchildren; 31great-grandchildren; 40 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Koch; son, Cletus Koch; brother, Jule George Levin; sisters Lillian Range, Lillie Chattillion, Emma Weber and Leanore Pluff; daughter-in-law, Veneda Koch; grandsons Kenneth Koch Jr. and Thomas Jeffery; and granddaughter, Disiree Koch. Ms. Koch married George in 1942 and they owned Koch’s Tavern in North Dupo for almost 40 years. She enjoyed fishing and watching Cardinal baseball. She claimed her longevity was attributed to having one beer per day. Visitation was at Dashner-Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo. Funeral is Friday, Dec. 18 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbia with Pastor Edward Melchoir officiating. Mrs. Koch will be buried at Zion Bohnemeier Cemetery in Dupo. Memorials may be made to Unity Hospice or St. Paul’s Lutheran Building Fund.

Fred A. Krewer Jr., 92, of Valmeyer, died May 8, 2014 in Red Bud. He was born July 29, 1921 in Willisville, the son of the late Fred Sr. and Mary (nee Danley) Krewer. Mr. Krewer is survived by his wife of 70 years, Rosalia (nee Wuertz) Krewer; children, Marlene Bair and Penny (Dennis) Heusohn; grandchildren, Mitchell (Janice) Bair, Elizabeth (Dustin) Walker, Denise Evans, Dawn Heusohn and Jeffrey Heusohn; great-grandchildren, Anna Bair, Lauren Bair and Brady Heusohn; and a brother, Gaillard (Patricia) Krewer; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Krewer; son-in-law, Edwin Bair; and special friend, Father Jack Flanery. Mr. Krewer was a member of the Valmeyer American Legion Post 901. He added St. Mary Catholic Church in Valmeyer. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Valmeyer with Father Urban Osuji officiating. Mr. Krewer was buried at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary Building Fund, Oak Hill or Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Erwin Anthony Auer, 88, of St. Louis, Mo., died May 10, 2014. Mr. Auer is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia M. (nee Biehl) Auer; sons Erwin F. (Patricia) Auer, Daniel E. (Marlene) Auer, Robert W. (Patricia) Auer and Stephen G. (Pamela) Auer; daughters, Mary E. (John) Steinmetz, Nancy J. (Daniel) Epple and Virginia B. "Ginny" Malaschak; and a brother, Ernest F. (Ruth) Auer; along with 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Anton and Elizabeth Josephine (nee Marquardt) Auer; five brothers and four sisters. Mr. Auer was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the St. Francis DeSales Benevolent Society and a life member of Brewers and Maltsters Local. No. 6. Visitation was at the Kutis Affton Chapel. Funeral was at St. Dominic Savio Catholic Church. Mr. Auer was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
