Janet L. Smith, nee Horn, 71, of Williamsburg, Mo., formerly of Waterloo, died at Columbia University Hospital, 12 days after suffering a ruptured brain aneurysm. She was born Sept. 21,1942 in Waterloo, the daughter of Lorine C. (nee Nobbe) and the late Walter C. Horn. Besides her mother, Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 52 years, Don Smith; children, Kay (Gary) Smith of Medera, Calif., and Terry (Shelia) Smith of Bowling Green, Mo.; grandchildren, Jesse (Karien) Conyors of Medera, Calif., and Christine (Richard) Smith of House Springs, Mo.; three great-granchildren; a sister, Sharon (Bob) Osterhage of Waterloo; a brother, Don (Sandi) Horn of Lafayette, La.; her mother-in-law, Loraine Smith of Warrenton, Mo.; an aunt, Esther (Vernon) Brandt of Waterloo; her uncle, Wilbert (Virginia) Horn of Largo, Fla.; nephew, Todd (Lucy) Osterhage of Waterloo; and a niece, Angie (Billy) Onder of St. Louis; along with brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She will also be missed by her two dogs, Jake and Taz. Mrs. Smith graduated in 1960 from Waterloo High School and lived in the surrounding St. Louis area most of her life. Mrs. Smith was cremated and laid to rest in Troy, Mo.

Edward C. Braun, 69, of New Athens, died May 12, 2014, in Belleville. He was born May 30, 1944 in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late William F. and Lucille (nee Lake) Braun. Mr. Braun is survived by his wife, Linda Braun; children Janet (Joe) Gregson and Tim (Elizabeth) Braun; grandchildren Toby, Brianne and Sebastian; brothers, Bill (Janet) Braun, Paul (Sharon) Braun, Steve Braun and Allan (Joyce) Braun; and sisters-in-law, Barbara (Melvin) Parker and Rita (James) Tyberendt. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Bauer; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Braun. Edward was a member of Midwest Truckers. Visitation is Thursday, May 15, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Friday, May 16, at 10 a.m., at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Hecker with Fr. Jim Nall officiating. Mr. Braun will be born at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Jeanne M. Lane, nee Schmitt, 64, of Waterloo, died April 20, 2014, in St. Louis. She was born Aug. 13, 1949, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Wendell and Rita (nee Vogt) Schmitt. Mrs. Lane is survived by her husband, Greg Lane; sons, Christopher Lane, John Lane, Dan (Breeyn) Lane and Patrick (Kate) Lane; grandchildren. Dawsyn, Karsyn and Presly Lane and Camden Lane; sisters, Ruth (Paul) Bankes, Susan (Mike) Kaestner and Nancy (Glen) Eckert; and a brother-in-law, Ken Gibbs; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded by her sister, Mary Anne Gibbs. Mrs. Lane attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo. She was a former member of the Gibault Mother's Club. In her giving nature, Jeanne was an eye and tissue donor. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Osang Idagbo officiating. Mrs. Lane was buried at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Carmelite Convent of Sioux City, Iowa, or the Family Center in Webster Groves, Mo.

Walter G. Leistler Jr., 82, of Columbia, died April 21, 2014 at St. Anthony's Medical Center. He was born May 2, 1931, in St. Louis the son of the late Walter Sr. and Myrtle (nee Satterfield) Leistler. Walter married Joan (nee Percival) Leistler in 1955 in St. Louis. In addition to his wife, Mr. Leistler is survived by a son, Robert (Robin) Leistler of Waterloo; and grandchildren, Rance and Shelby Leistler. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Leistler Evans. Mr. Leistler served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a retired purchasing agent at Hussmann Corp. in St. Louis. Walter enjoyed traveling and the outdoors, especially the many camping trips with his family. Visitation and funeral were at Lawlor Funeral Home with Kristofer Avise-Rouse officiating. Following cremation, Mr. Leistler was interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to Neighbors In Need.

Dorothy Gerst, nee Lepp, 91, of Columbia, formerly of St. Louis, died April 21, 2014. She was born Sept. 23, 1922, in Columbia. Mrs. Gerst is survived by her children, Dr. James (Mary Helen) Gerst, Dr. William (Nina) Gerst, Thomas (Judy) Gerst, Dorothy Ann Gerst and Michael (Betsy) Gerst; a son-in-law, Stephen Beggs; and sisters-in-law, Mary Lou (George) Russell and Barbara Benum; along with 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Aloysius Gerst; and her daughter, Mary Catherine Gerst Beggs. Visitation and funeral were at Conception Catholic Church in Columbia with Father Carl Scherer officiating. Mrs. Gerst was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. George Renner and Sons Funeral Home in Belleville handled the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia.

Joel Roschnafsky, 34, of Kirkwood, Mo., formerly of Waterloo, died April 25, 2014, after an extended battle with stomach cancer. Joel is survived by his wife, Sasha (nee Spencer) Roschnafsky; his parents, Kurt and Becky Roschnafsky; a brother, Ryan Roschnafsky; and in-laws, Alan and Donna Spencer; along with other relatives and friends. Joel was a life-long soccer player and an assistant women’s soccer coach for Maryville University. Mr. Roschnafsky was employed as a physical therapist for Pro Rehab. Visitation was at Bopp Chapel in Kirkwood. Funeral was at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Des Peres, Mo. Mr. Roschnafsky was buried at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Cemetery in Wartburg.

Ralph Warren Kolmer, 78, of Raleigh, died April 29, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Kolmer was born May 21, 1935 in Waterloo, the son of the late Conrad Anthony and Helen Elizabeth (nee Rick) Kolmer. Ralph married Joyce Ann (nee Whitlock) Kolmer in 1973. In addition to his wife, Mr. Kolmer is survived by his son, Keith (Jane) Kolmer of Waterloo; daughters Connie (James) Matzenbacher of Waterloo, Kimberly (Rodney) Nevois of Red Bud and Jackie Ann (Keith) Ita; grandchildren, Keith Ital Jr., Shane (Lori) Matzenbacher, Jeff (Christina) Kaiser-Kolmer, Jesse (Katie) Ital, Jeremy Carle, DeAnn (Tom) Hughes, Cameron Nevois, Summer Kolmer, , John J. (Jamie) Carle and Sedona Kolmer; great-grandchildren, Aaron (Lindsay) DeNoon, Douglas DeNoon, Rachelle DeNoon, Cole Matzenbacher, Ian Matzenbacher, Cohen Kolmer, Hallie DeAnn Hughes, Liam Ital, Sophia Grace Carle and Dawsyn Riya Matzenbacher; and great-great-grandchildren, Aden DeNoon and Asher DeNoon. He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Kolmer; and a grandson, Bradley James Matzenbacher. Visitation is Friday, May 2, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Funeral is Saturday, May 3, at 10 a.m., at the Baptist Church of Raleigh with Dr. David Pinkerton officiating. Mr. Kolmer will be buried with full military honors at the Raleigh Masonic Cemetery.

Elayne “Bucky” Schaeffer, 76, of Columbia, died April 19, 2014, at Cedar Ridge Health and Rehab in Lebanon. She was born July 4, 1937 in Columbia, the daughter of the late George “Buck” and Alida (nee Roessler) Schaeffer. Ms. Schaeffer is survived by her nephews Robert (Lisa) Schlemmer Jr. of Metamora, Richard (Brenda) Schlemmer of Columbia and C.J. (Joy) Schlemmer of Columbia; along with eight great-nieces and great-nephews and seven great-great nieces and great-great nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Schaeffer; and sisters Marie Schaeffer and Kathleen Schlemmer. Elayne had been employed for Haas Bakery in St. Louis, Mo. In her youth, she was an accomplished softball player and bowler. Ms. Schaeffer was cremated according to her wishes. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date at Immaculate Conception Catholic in Columbia. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church - Building Fund.

Agnoles E. Blow, nee Moll, 86, of Smithton, died May 20, 2011 in Red Bud. She was born Jan. 1, 1925 in Prairie du Rocher, the daughter of the late Matt and Irene (nee Robert) Moll. Mrs. Blow is survived by her children, Dave (Amy) Brewer, Shirley (Dale) Deterding and Denis (Brenda) Dufrenne; and grandchildren Dwayne (Brenda) Brewer, Debbie (Richard) Biethman, Erik (Dawn) Brewer, Angela (Patrick) Meisner, Alecia Brewer, Zachary Brewer, Jason Dufrenne, Stacy (John) Buss and Dean (Renee Deterding; along with great-great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Blow. Private services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Mark R. Bundy, 51, of Maeystown, died May 21, 2011 of a heart attack outside his residence. He was born July 8, 1959 in Red Bud, the son of the late Guy and Gloria (nee Maeys) Bundy. Mr. Bundy is survived by his wife, Paula (nee Wilkerson) Bundy; a daughter, Lauren Bundy; and a brother, Jim (Pam) Bundy; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Willis Bundy. Mark attended St. John UCC of Maeystown where he was a member of the choir and Vesper band. He was a 1977 graduate of Valmeyer High School, was employed at MAR Graphics in Valmeyer and an officer with the Maeystown Civic Association where he helped organized the annual Maeystown Homecoming. Mark played guitar in numerous bands through the years, including Miles Prairie, Kentucky Strait, Hilltoppers and most recently, Fountain Creek. Visitation is Tuesday, May 24, from 4 p.m., to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Wednesday, May 245, at 10 a.m. at St. John UCC of Maeystown with Pastor Patrick Poole officiating. Mr. Bundy will be buried at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church.
