Clyde G. Roos, 67 of Millstadt, died May 22, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. He was born Sept. 12, 1943 in East St. Louis, the son of the late Clarence and Mary (nee Touchette) Roos. Mr. Roos is survived by his wife, Roxanne (nee Siebert) Roos; children, Marlo Roos-Smith of Ballwin, Mo., and Jason Scott Roos of Millstadt; grandchildren Jordan Smith, Brianna Smith, Bailey Smith Kelsie Roos and Emma Roos; a sister, Clara Mae (Donald) Hoguet; brother-in-law, Kenneth Siebert; and nieces and nephews, Michael Skaer, Dennis Skaer, Laura Sims, Melissa Nungesser, Daniel Siebert and Michael Siebert. He was Clyde was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Ardella Siebert. Mr. Roos served in the U.S. Army and worked at Kerry Ingredients in Millstadt. Visitation is Wednesday, May 25, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt. Funeral will be Thursday, May 26, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Joseph James Schulte, 48, of East Carondelet, died May 22, 2011 at his residence. He was born Sept. 24, 1962 in Centreville. Mr. Schulte is survived by his daughters, Lindsay (Craig) Tatum of Dupo and Laura (fiancé Mike) Schulte; a grandchild, Conner Tatum; step-father, Albert Voelker of Columbia; step-brothers and step-daughters Patty Huston, Robert Voelker, Kevin Voelker and Don Voelker; and girlfriend, Rachel Belcher; along with nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred (nee Theobald) Voelker. Joseph was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was employed as a parts manager for PRI in Dupo. Kristie Fahey, nee Horrell, 55, of Evansville, died May 22, 2011 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. after battling cancer. She was born April 4, 1956 in Belleville. She married Dan Fahey in 1993 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Fahey is survived by her mother, Barbara (nee Bowen) Horrell of Belleville; sisters Kim (Brooks) Brestal of Fairview Heights and Shelley (Barry) Friedman of Minneapolis, Minn.; in-laws, Clarence and Mary Ann Fahey of Red Bud; sister-in-law, Maureen Murphy of Sesser; and brothers-in-law Joe (Barb) Fahey of Prairie du Rocher, John Fahey of Red Bud, Paul (Shelly) Fahey of Waterloo and Nicholas (Sara) Fahey of Collinsville; along with nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Horrell. Mrs. Fahey attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud and was a member of the Illinois Reading Conference. She was a teacher at her church’s grade school for 32 years where she taught English and language classes to the fourth through eighth grades. Kristie had received her bachelor’s degree in journalism and social studies from SIU-E. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud and the Illinois Reading Conference. Visitation is Wednesday, May 25, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Red Bud. Funeral is Thursday, May 26 at 1 p.m. at the church with Msgr. Dennis Schaefer officiating. Rev. Al Daniel Mimbs, 76, died Sunday, May 22, 2011 at his home. He was the son of the late Green Daniel and Latha Inez Wright Mimbs. Mr. Mimbs is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lois Werth Mimbs, a former resident of Waterloo; brother, James Mimbs of Macon; sisters, Lois (Roy) Bryan of San Jose, Calif., and Evelyn Rubino of Miami, Fla. He was preceded in death by brothers Joe, Royce and Ivey Mimbs; and a sister Dorothy Jane Rose. A graduate of Life Bible College, Rev. Mimbs graduated from the University of Alabama. While pastoring at his first church, he taught English and math at both the middle school and high school levels as well as teaching math at the School for the Deaf in Talladega, Ala. Al also worked for the Department of Parks and Recreation in Sylacauga. Rev. Mimbs received the 50-year service award in 2007 from the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. He pastored churches in Sylacauga, Ala., Columbus, Ga., and Raleigh and Concord, NC. He retired from the Foursquare Gospel Church in Spring City in 2001. Visitation and funeral were at Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City, Tenn. with Dr. Ron Ingram officiating. Mr. Mimbs will be buried at the Waterloo City Cemetery.
Marvin Alvin Mehrtens, 70, of Belleville, died May 24, 2011. He was born Oct. 12, 1940 in Belleville, the son of the late Harold and Florence Mehrtens. Mr. Mehrtens is survived by his son, Jeff Mehrtens; a daughter, Stacy (Ray) Minor; grandchildren Kaitlyn Mehrtens, Madison Mehrtens and Jacie Minor; and brothers Delbert (Colleen) Mehrtens and Gene (Patti) Mehrtens; along with aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Mehrtens graduated from Waterloo High School in 1958 and served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Mehrtens’ body was cremated. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at St. Paul UCC in Waterloo.
Elsie J. Breidegam, nee Strubinger, 94, died May 25, 2011 in Waterloo. She was born Feb. 7, 1917 in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Charles and Rosalea (Wilson) Strubinger. Mrs. Breidegam is survived by her children, Kenneth Watts of St. Charles, Mo., Janet Breidegam of St. Louis, Mo., David (Roxann) Breidegam and Mark (Alice) Breidegam of Waterloo; sister, Rose Marie Valentine of St. Louis; and a brother, David (Martha) Strubinger of Imperial, Mo.; along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joanie; and her husband, Ralph Breidegam; along with seven brothers and sisters. Samuel Elmer Axe, 71, Columbia, died May 25, 2011. He was born Aug. 30, 1939, in Dupo, the son of Ralph and Dorothy (Haskenhoff) Axe. He married Shirley (Mehrtens) Axe in 1969 in Millstadt. In addition to his wife, Mr. Axe is survived by his son, Mike Axe of Waterloo; sister, Janet McBaine of Mesa, Ariz.; brothers Ralph Axe of Waterloo and Richard Axe of St. Louis, Mo.; sister-in-law, Doris (Willis) Steiger of Millstadt; brother-in-law, Don (Charlotte) Mehrtens of Millstadt; and aunts, Dorothy Haskenhoff, Naoma Smith, Betty Wiechert, Betty Haskenhoff and Bonnie Wiechert; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, David Axe; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Ida Mehrtens. Samuel was the owner of S and S Electronics in Millstadt. Clarence Henry Sutter, 91, of Millstadt, died May 25, 2011. He was born Nov. 18, 1919 in Bixby, the son of the late Henry William and Edna Caroline (nee Hoock) Sutter. Clarence married Georgine Leona (nee Theobald) Sutter in 1941 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Mo. In addition to his wife, Mr. Sutter is survived by children, Marilyn (Harold) Hughes, Norman (Sandy) Sutter and Clay (Tammi) Sutter, all of Millstadt; a daughter-in-law, Anita Sutter of Baldwin, Mo.; grandchildren Wes Hughes, Ross (Amy) Hughes, Dwayne, Deano, Wade, Cameron, Chet and Cal Sutter, Heather (Clint) Kasten, Darlene (George) Morton, Wendy (Walter) Staas, Crystal (Erich) Savanick and Ceely Sutter; great-grandchildren, Austin Morton, Cole and Crayton Kasten, Dylan and Devin Sutter, Emma Hughes, Carli Kasten, Ashlee Morton and baby Girl Savanick due in July; brothers-in-law, John Fischer and Joe Gravot; and an aunt, Alma Glenn; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Sutter; a granddaughter, Charlotte Sutter; and sisters Gladys Fischer and Aileen Gravot. Mr. Sutter earned the Purple Heart while serving in the South Pacific during World War II. His service to the country continued after the war in the Army Air Corp as he was station with the Occupational Forces of Japan until January 1946 when he rejoined his wife and then two young children. Clarence was employed for 39 years at Midwest Rubber Reclaiming Company in Sauget, retiring in 1975. Mr. Sutter attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Millstadt, was a member of the United Rubber Workers Local 42 and was a lifetime member of the Millstadt VFW Post 7980. He enjoyed working on his farm, spending time with his grandchildren and traveling with his wife. Visitation is Tuesday, May 31, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt. Margaret H. Nester, nee Roach, 86, of Waterloo, died May 27, 2011 in Belleville. She was born July 24, 1924 in Wayne County, Mo., the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (nee Payne) Roach. Mrs. Nester is survived by her children, Louise Yearian, Gregory (Beverly) Tucker, Edward A. (Angie) Nester and Tamra (Mark) Baugh; grandchildren Todd (Kym) Yearian, Brad (Amy) Yearian, Laurie (Dave) Baum, Elizabeth Anderson, Ryan (Sarah) Tucker, Shawn Tucker, Aaron Huggins, Travis Baugh, Jacob Baugh, Candice (Steve) Gardner, Angela (Ryan) Martin and Clay Carrico; a brother, Jack (Hazel) Roach; 12 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren; along with a brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Nester; a son-in-law, Dale Yearian; sisters; and brothers. Mrs. Nester was a member of the Cahokia VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Gregory L. Liefer, 54, of Waterloo, died June 3, 2011 in St. Louis, Mo. He was born June 9, 1956 in Red Bud, the son of Homer and Alice (nee Salger) Liefer. In addition to his parents, Mr. Liefer is survived by his wife, Gail (Shields) Liefer; sons Matthew (Heather) Liefer and Aaron (Amy) Liefer; grandchildren Autumn, Jordyn, Anthony, Ian, Camden and Jack; and siblings Sharon (Jim) Kessler, Gary (Bonnie) Liefer, Denise Liefer, Deanna (Dave) Mueller and Wayne Liefer; along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Liefer was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo and was a member of the Valmeyer American Legion Post 901.
