Elisabeth "Betty Anne" (Hewitt) Bantz, 72 years of Columbia, died June 16, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. She was born June 26, 1938, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of the late Merton and Lona (Locke) Hewitt. She married Harold Bantz, in 1961 in Aurora. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bantz is survived by her children,Deanna (Steve) Jent of Webster Groves, Mo., Darren (Kim) Bantz of Waterboro, Maine, Dean (Leah) Bantz of Waterloo, Dorianne (Jim) Vogt of Columbia and Don (Elizabeth) Bantz of Waterloo; sisters, Marjorie Brill, Harlene (Bob) Fabian, Merlyn (Jim) Rutherford and Patricia VanAlstyne; brother, Ladd (Maxine) Hewitt; and 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robbie Hewitt; and a sister, Myrtha Freethy. Betty Anne was an artist in many areas – as a singer, composer and guitar player. Betty Ann also worked as an editor, published four novels and enjoyed graphic design, creating house plans, painting and drawing. Visitation is Tuesday, June 21, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Lawlor Funeral Home and on Wednesday, June 22, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Bethany United Methodist Church in Columbia. Frankie Alice Duncan, 57, of Waterloo, died June 17, 2011 in Belleville. She was born Jan. 13,1954 in Caleda, Ore., the daughter of the late Elmer Myron and Donna Rae (nee Bichael) Duncan. John David Mohl, 61, of Glen Carbon, died June 19, 2011 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. He was born Dec. 9, 1949 in Terre Haute, Ind., the son of the late Marvin Henry and Gladys Irene (Gjevre) Mohl. He married Andrea Ruth (Geist) Mohl in 1973 in Atlanta, Ga. In addition to his wife, Mr. Mohl is survived by his children, Jeffrey a(Tricia) Mohl of Chicago, Kevin (Amy) Mohl of Indianapolis, Ind., and Amanda Mohl of Glen Carbon; and brothers Larry (Mary) Mohl of Kirkwood, Mo., and Bruce (Josephine) Mohl of Milton, Mass.; along with nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Vicki Lynn Mohl. John was the executive director of Camp Wartburg in rural Waterloo for the past 12 years. He attended Our Lord's Lutheran Church in Maryville where he was active with the Praise Band, had served as a confirmation teacher and was past-president of the congregation. Bertha Mathews, nee Karban, 91, of Waterloo, died June 20, 2011 in Waterloo. She was born May 26, 1920, in Paderborn, the daughter of the late William and Ida (nee Neff) Karban. Mrs. Mathews is survived by her children, William (Carol) Mathews and Kurt (Susan) Mathews; grandchildren, Sheri (Robert) Hall, Brett (Julie) Mathews, Jeffery (Christine) Mathews, Sarah (Brian) Wild and Karla Mathews (fiancé Mike Buettner); great-grandchildren, Blake, Brandon, and Brice Hall, Joshua and Aidan Mathews, and Ian, Logan, and Emily Mathews; a sister, Elsie Eitzenhefer; and a brother, Clement Karban; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer J. Mathews; sister, Adele Kaiser; and brother, Albert Karban. Mrs. Mathews attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo. Katherine C. Koch, nee Kirchner, 90, of Valmeyer, died June 22, 2011in Red Bud. She was born Aug. 7, 1920 in Little Rock, Ark., the daughter of the late Joseph and Clara Wilhelmina (nee Diekneite) Kirchner. Mrs. Koch is survived by her husband, Victor Koch; children, Jane (Herb) Muertz, John (Gail Sheehan) Koch and Bob Koch; sisters, Regina Koch, Mary (Al) Saucier and Rosie Schadler; and brothers, Joe (Pat) Kirchner and Nick Kirchner; along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa Deverling; and a brother, James Kirchner. Mrs. Koch attended St. Mary Catholic Church in Valmeyer who used to volunteer with the USO. Richard W. Sippel, 60, of Waterloo, died June 22, 2011 in Waterloo. He was born Jan. 27, 1951 in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late William Henry and Margaret (nee Martin) Sippel. Mr. Sippel is survived by his wife, Dorothy R. Sippel; children, Paula (Scott) Noll, Rebecca Sippel, Timothy (Jessica) Sippel and Adina Sippel; and a sister, Susan (Dan) Ray; along with eight grandchildren; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. William E. Wetzler, 78, of Waterloo, died June 25, 2011 in Waterloo. He was born Dec. 12, 1932 in Maeystown, the son of the late George and Lena (nee Fauss) Wetzler. Mr. Wetzler is survived by his wife, Lucille (nee Novak) Wetzler; children, Tom (Teri) Wetzler, Barry Wetzler and Mark (Amy) Wetzler; grandchildren, Ashley (Jeff) Duecker, Brittany Wetzler, Courtney Wetzler, Chelsey Wetzler and Cody Wetzler; great-grandchildren, Kailee, Kameron and Kenadee; and a sister, Ardell (Leroy) Hartmann; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, William "Bill" Wetzler; brothers, Willis, Roland, Wilbert, Robert, Raymond and Emil Wetzler; and a sister, Luella Aycock. Dale A. Yankey, 63, of Waterloo, died June 26, 2011 in Waterloo. He was born Sept. 11, 1947, in Red Bud, the son of the late Howard and Gertrude (nee Deul) Yankey. Mr. Yankey is survived by a sister, Bonnie Schlotmann; nieces, Kim (Jeff) Mueth and Regina Yankey; great-niece, Emma Mueth; and great-nephew, Jacob Mueth. Edwin J. Baudendistel, 80, of Fults, died June 28, 2011 in Waterloo. He was born Jan. 3, 1931, in Perryville Mo., the son of the late Edgar and Elsie (nee Riney) Baudendistel. Mr. Baudendistel is survived by his wife, Betty J. (nee Welker) Baudendistel; children, Jean (Steven) Yoshikane, William Baudendistel, Mary (Brian) Shaw, Judith (Daniel) Busk and Joyce (Charles) Patterson; grandchildren, Aki Hicks, Sarah, Elizabeth, Alan and Rebecca Yoshikane, Matthew, Daniel and Jennifer Baudendistel, Mikayla and Rachel Shaw, Abigail Busk, Jessica and Kaytlin Patterson and Jason Baudendistel; great-grandchildren, Samantha Adair, Nadia Perales, Sherri Bucheger, Jeremiah and Josephine Hicks Andy Corsino; sisters, Helena Schweiss and Viola Lankford; and sister-in-law, Darlene Baudendistel; along with nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, David Lee Baudendistel; brother, Cletus Baudendistel; and a daughter-in-law, Kathleen (nee McDaniel) Baudendistel. Mr. Baudendistel served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed for 33 years at Potts Industrial of St. Louis where he helped build and deliver towboats. He was also employed by Universal Air Filter in Sauget until he retired in January 1996. Edwin was a devout Catholic who was a member of the Holy Name Societies at St. Catherine Laboure in Cahokia and Our Lady of Good Counsel in Renault. He was a member of the American Legion and had been an active Boy Scout for many years. Visitation is Friday, July 1, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. James Bruce Rowton Sr., 93, of Columbia, died June 29, 2011, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. He was born Oct. 23, 1917, in Rector, Ark., the son of the lateJames and Maude (Chilcutt) Rowton. He married Frances (Goddard) Rowton in 1942 in Miami Beach, Fla. Mr. Rowton is survived by children, James B. (Mary) Rowton Jr. of East Carondelet, Sharon Gotto of Waterloo, Pamela (William) Allen ofColumbia, Jeanne (Arthur) Crandell of Cahokia, Kim (Susan) Rowton of Waterloo, Constance (Jeffrey) Squires of Edwardsville and Carrie (David) Grove of Festus, Mo.; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Jack, John, Pete and BobRowton; and sisters, Lena Presson, Lala Lane and Irene McElyea. Mr. Rowton served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
