Brent Michael Roever, 32, of Waterloo, died July 4, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis following injuries sustained in a fall at his residence. He was born May 10, 1976 at St. Clement Hospital in Red Bud, the son of Ronald and Kathy (nee Schreder) Roever. In addition to his parents, Mr. Roever is survived by sisters Michelle and Anne Roever; brother, Jared Roever; and grandfather, Michael Schreder of Waterloo; along with aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Delores Schreder (nee Bertram); paternal grandparents Wesley and Mary Roever (nee Wuertz); and aunt, Barbara Roever. He was a member of Laborer's Local 196, Monroe County Democratic Club and Immaculate Conception Church of Madonnaville. He was an avid hunter and fan of Nascar and the St. Louis Cardinals. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at Immaculate Conception Church in Madonnaville, Father Thomas Stout officiating. Mr. Roever was buried at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to Masses.

Raymond Lawrence Mueller, 45, of Belleville, died July 6, 2008, in Belleville. He was born May 16, 1963, in Bitburg, Germany. He is survived by his parents, James and Carol Mueller of Baldwin; daughter, Corie Rae Mueller of Newport News, Va.; and brothers Steven (Christina) Mueller of Columbia, Terry Mueller of Red Bud and Brian (Carlene) Mueller; along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Stuart Rethwisch officiating. Mr. Mueller will be buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. He was a member of the Belleville American Legion Hall, a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and a truck driver for William F. Braun Trucking of Hecker. Memorials may be made to his daughter, Corie Rae Mueller.

Robert “Rabbit” Assel-meier, 87, of Glen Carbon, died July 8, 2008, at his home. He was born Jan. 10, 1921 in Maeystown, the son of the late William and Margaret (nee Thuerwatch-er) Asselmeier. He married Dewell “Dudie” Hayden in 1951. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and four sisters. Mr. Asselmeier was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He retired as an equipment specialist with the Federal Government in 1978 after 27 years of service. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 99, American Legion Post 199, Moose Lodge 1561, VFW Post 2859, Scottish Rite, St. Paul UCC and The Well Church. Visitation is Friday, July 11, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Irwin Chapel in Glen Carbon. Funeral was Saturday, July 12, 10 a.m., at the funeral home, with Rev. Dr. Manuel R. Tamayo officiating. Mr. Asselmeier was buried at Woodland Hills in East Alton. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital.

Robin Christine Grant of Waterloo died in infancy on July 9, 2008 in Bridgeton, Mo. She was born July 9, 2008, the daughter of Jerry and Gwen (nee Stine) Grant. She was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. She is survived by a sister, Nina Grant; brothers Nathan, Jonathan, Joseph and Jay Grant; maternal grandparents Robert Jr and Donna Stine; and paternal grandparent Eunice Grant. She was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Carl Grant Jr.; and sister, Hope Kathleen Grant. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church of Waterloo.

Anetha M. Birkner, nee Bequette, 72, of New Athens, died July10 in St. Louis. She was the wife of Leo O. Birkner. Mrs. Birkner was born Nov. 10, 1935, the daughter of the late Nelson and Viola (nee Gummersheimer) Bequette in Columbia. Besides her husband, Mrs. Birkner is survived by 17 children: Dona (Larry Toenjes), Lee (Linda) Birkner, Linda (Gerald) Grahlherr, Gary (Patty) Birkner, Patty (Kevin Martin) Brinkmann, Dale Birkner, Fay (Gary) Skaer, Marilyn Brinkmann, Keith (DeDe) Brinkmann, Kathleen (Curt) Middendorf, Nora (Roger) Hartmann, Tom (Tammy) Brinkmann, Gail (Benny) Cockrell, Louis (Tammy) Birkner, Gary (Debra) Brinkmann, Carl (Michelle) Birkner and Theresa (Jay) Gonstal; three brothers, Donald (Dorothy) Bequette, Glen (Dima) Bequette and Ronald (Tina) Bequette; three sisters, Lillian (Carl) Vogt, Verana “Toots” (Charlie) Johnson and Velma Valleroy; 42 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at St. Michael Catholic Church in Paderborn, the Rev. Father Jim Voelker officiating. Burial was at St. Augustine Cemetery, Hecker. Besides her parents, Mrs. Birkner was preceded in death by a brother, Jerald Bequette. She was a member of St. Michael’s Parish and loved her family, cooking and celebrations of life. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Center for Autism.

Guyla Reichert, 61, of Columbia, died July 10, 2008 at Barnes Jewish Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo. She was born June 8, 1947 in DuQuoin, the daughter of the late Carlie and Virginia (O’Keefe) Hutchings. She married Dean Reichert in 1965. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Steven (Lana) Reichert of Columbia; a daughter, Deanna (James) Hoffman of Columbia; grandchildren Stephanie Hoffman, Nathan Hoffman, Bailey Reichert, Abigail Reichert and Carlie Ann Reichert; brothers Donald (Sherry) Hutchings of Columbia and Retired Col. Robert (Brenda) Hutchings of Algonquin; sister, Carla (John) Munton of Columbia; aunt, Faye Kellerman of Columbia; and father and mother-in-law, Harry (Winona) Reichert Jr. of Columbia. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church of Columbia, IL, the Prairie du Rocher Saddle Club and was a volunteer at Fort de Chartres. She was a retired EMT-ER tech at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. Visitation and funeral were at Lawlor Funeral Home. A cremation and private internment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Foundation or American Heart Association.

Emma O. Roth, 97, of Red Bud died July 14, 2008, at Red Bud Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late George and Louise (nee Schroeder) Heise and was born April 30, 1911 in Columbia. She was married to Edwin Roth Oct. 16, 1937 at St. Joe. He died in 1965. Mrs. Roth was a homemaker. She was the former co-owner of House of Roth Ceramics in Red Bud. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Bud and the Monroe County Home Extension. She was a Monroe County 4-H leader for 15 years. Mrs. Roth was an avid gardener and she loved to travel and read. She was also an avid solitaire player and loved completing crossword puzzles. Survivors include three children, Jeannette (Walter) Moore, Robert Roth and Doris (Bob) Liefer; a brother, George (Charlotte) Heise; a son-in-law, Norman Bievenue; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Loretta Bievenue; three brothers, Roy, Harry and Elmer Heise; and two grandchildren, Christine and Raymond Liefer. Visitation was at the Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home. A funeral was at St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Rev. Mark Nebel and the Rev. Russell Koen officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, R & R Country Care or St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Floyd E. Gould, 83, of Port Orange, Fla., formerly of Columbia, died June 1, 2008. He was born April 27, 1925, in Cleveland, Ark., the son of the late Archie F. and Roxie Gould nee Nelson. He married the late Esther Gould nee Bequette in 1945; she preceded him in death in 2004. Mr. Gould is survived by his daughters Jeannie (Jimmie) S. Vanover of Port Orange, Fla., and Joni (Ernie) J. Chapman of Cartersville, Ga.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother Delmar (Edith) Gould; and sister Faye (Ross) Hancock; along with other relatives and friends. HE was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son James Gould, and daughter-in-law Mary Gould. Mr. Gould loved bluegrass music, sitting in his favorite chair and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball games, and, most of all, his grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, June 6, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Lawlor Funeral Home in Columbia. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 7, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. He will be buried at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Columbia. Memorials may be made to the Williams Syndrome Association.

Judith K. Stehlick nee Long, 61, of Mascoutah, died June 3, 2008. She was born Nov. 29, 1948, the daughter of the late John W. Long Sr. and Dorothy Long nee Peck. She was married to Arthur Stehlick. Mrs. Stehlick is survived by her husband; children William (Kimberly) Lannom, Angelo, Faith Lannom, and Toni (Paul) Volkert; grandchildren Brandon Lannom, Matthew Lannon, Logan Lannom, Brock Volkert, and Drake Volkert; a brother and a sister. She was preceded in death by her parents, and son John Middendorf. Mrs. Stehlick retired as a custodian from the Mamie O. Stookey P.R.I.M.E. / Care School in Belleville. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Visitation and a funeral service were at Lake View Funeral Home in Fairview Heights, Pastor Wayne Boostrom officiating. She is buried at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Belleville. Memorials may be made to the Mamie O. Stookey P.R.I.M.E. / Care School in Belleville.

Frieda M. Cottom, 91, of Columbia, died June 6, 2008, in Columbia. She was born May 15, 1917, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Charles and Lillian Gough nee Smith. She was married to the late Theodore R. Cottom; he preceded her in death in 1981. Mrs. Cottom is survived by her sons Pete (Anna) Cottom and Larry Cottom, both of Columbia; grandchildren Diane (Albie) Shields of Columbia, Rick Cottom of Tallahassee, Fla., Sandra Cottom of Columbia, Kimberly Cottom of Cahokia and Michael (Angie) Cottom of Belleville; and great-grandchildren Danielle Shields, Ana Shields, Kelsey Cottom, and Michael Cottom; along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Thelmer Gough, and sisters Inez Robinson, Catherine Walker, Beneada Gough and Leona Gough. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral Mass was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fr. Steve Gira officiating. She will be buried at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund.
