Glennon C. Reitz, 80, of Waterloo, died June 23, 2008 in Waterloo. He was born Jan. 19, 1928 in Waterloo, the son of the late Frederic and Leora (nee Reinhold) Reitz. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Reitz nee Schriedel; children Frederick Reitz of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Lisa (Clint) Williams of St. Louis, Mo., Glennon (fiancé Kimberly Collier) Reitz of St. Louis, Mo., Paul (David Rosen) of Calif., Joseph Reitz of St. Louis, Mo. and Steven Reitz of Fenton, Mo.; grandchildren Kimberly Lori, Michelle, Monica, Andy, Zachary, Cory, Theresa and Alex; great-grandchild, Kaitlyn; siblings Orlou (Bob) Burkemper of Waterloo, Germain (Frank) Leingang of Calif., Carol Reitz of Calif., Aaron Reitz of Waterloo and Neal (Mary) Reitz of Chicago; sister-in-law, mary Reitz; and brothers-in-law Margie Reitz, Bill (Lorraine) Spreck, Raymond (Alicia) Schriedel and Tim Schriedel; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by brothers Roger, Leroy, Floyd and Frederic Reitz. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Father Don Blaes officiating. He was buried at SS. Stella Marie (nee Cragan) Wittenbrink, 99, of Evansville passed away Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Red Bud Nursing Home. Marie was born March 29, 1909 in Randolph Co. to Clara (nee Beare) and James A Cragan. Marie graduated in 1928 from St. Theresa’s Academy in East St. Louis. She taught from 1927 to 1933 in a one-room schoolhouse in Ruma. Marie married Hilarius “Larry” Wittenbrink on May 9, 1933 at Saint Boniface Catholic Church. They moved to Chicago and lived there until 1956 when they returned to Evansville. She received her B.A. in 1972 and her M.A. in 1976 from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, at the age of 67. She taught at St. Boniface School, Evansville and St. James School, Millstadt. After retirement, Marie substitute taught at various area schools, receiving her last paycheck in 1997 at the age of 88. Marie was active in the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and headed the auxiliary at St. Clement Hospital, which is now the Red Bud Hospital. Marie was also active in the Daughters of Isabella. Marie and Larry had five children, Hilarie “Larry” J. (Shirley) of South Bend, Ind., Robert J. (Gail) of Broomfield, Colo., Marie C. of Wilmington, NC, Margaret M. of Westminster, Colo., and John J. (Barbara) of Clayton, Calif.; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren Lynn Bette (Rick), Lauren and Emily Hefferon, Jennifer (Roy) Nicholas and Anna Ortega; Mark (Pam), Ryan, Sean and Madelyn Wittenbrink; Kathryn W. (Zach), Jacob and Guinevere Clark; Christopher (Tracy Johnston) Wittenbrink; Craig (Debra), Jayna and Trisha Wittenbrink; Michelle Wittenbrink and daughter Nicole Sortino; Kari (James) Clare Ann and James Maddox; Keely (Ron) Barrett and Caroline Holmes; Mercedes W. (Michael) and Briannah Blazinic; and Aaron (Elizabeth) Wittenbrink. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Norbert, James, sister-in-law Virginia; daughter-in-law Katheryn M. Wittenbrink and grandson Matthew Lemke. Funeral Mass was at Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Evansville, Fr. John J. Joyce officiating. Interment was at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. Dorothy Cotton nee Gober, 85, of Belleville, died June 24, 2008 in Columbia. She was born May 13, 1923 in Natchez, Miss., to the late William and Maude (nee Brown) Gober. Mrs. Cotton is survived by children Sandra (Les) Downing of Fults, Tanya Cotton of Belleville, Melodie Cotton of St. Louis, Mo., and Dawn (Riyad Hamzah) Cotton of Bahrain; grandchildren Dawn (Gary) Parker, Brian (Jennifer) Downing, Heath (Sandra) Gonzalez, Aaron (Cheryle) Gonzalez, Sahar Hamzah and Raith Hamzah; and 11 great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Cotton, three sisters and two brothers. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. There was a graveside service Thursday, June 26, 10 a.m., at St. John Cemetery in Fults, with Pastor Matt Clark officiating.
Delores M. Meyer nee Fehr, 78, of Waterloo, died June 24, 2008, in Waterloo. She was born June 24, 1929 in St. Louis, Mo., to the late George and Mary (nee Gombas) Fehrt. Mrs. Meyer is survived by children Carolyn Sue Lively of Affton, Mo., Kathryn (Russell) Griffith of Columbia, James (Carolyn) Meyer of Waterloo, Jonathan Meyer of Columbia, Mary (Earl) Kloos of Florissant and Dorothy (Dave) Marshall of St. Louis, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Emil Meyer; and son, Christopher Meyer. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral service followed with Father Don Blaes officiating. She was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. Memorials may be made to the Oak Hill Activity Fund.
Eric Sandy, 41, of Carrollton, TX, died June 27 at Grapevine, Tex. He was born June 12, 1967 at Cherry Point, NC. Mr. Sandy was a freight broker for ROC Transport. Survivors include his mother and step-father, Joanna (nee Billen) and Ted Hobart of California; father and step-mother, Jess and Carol Sandy of Indiana; a son, Tyler Sandy of Waterloo; a sister, Teresa Martin of Nevada; and former wife, Rosetta Dinan of Waterloo. Visitation was at the Lawlor Funeral Home in Columbia where a funeral was held. Burial was at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery. Memorials may be made to donor's choice.
Robert L. Reed, Jr., 52, of Waterloo died June 27, 2008 at Red Bud. He was born Dec. 3, 1955 at Benton. Mr. Reed was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife Donna L. Reed; his parents, Robert L. and Evadene (nee Summers) Reed, Sr. of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, a brother; several nephews; and faithful companion, Precious. There were no services or visitation.
Omer W. Engel, 78, of Chester died June 30, 2008. He was born May 5, 1932 at Cape Girardeau, Mo., the son of the late Sylvester J. and Mathilda E. (nee Scheibe) Engel. Survivors include his wife, Janet Engel (nee Louks); a son, Floyd (Paula) Engel of Chester; daughters Linda Novack of Waterloo and Kathy (David “Fritz” Edwards) Engel-Edwards of Rockwood; a step-daughter, Chris (David) Dunmyer; grandchildren Scott (Michelle Molinari) Kaestner, Brandi (Rich) Nelson, Blake Novack, Stacy (Tony) Mooney, Zachary (Casey) Engel, and Brittany Engel; step-grandchildren Dylan Dunmyer and Conner Dunmyer; nine great-grandchildren; an aunt, Eleanor Althoff; and numerous other relatives. Besides his parents, Mr. Engel was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra S. Faverty; grandson, Christopher Faverty; and brother, Clyde Engel. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 520 for more than 50 years. He was a Western River Boat Captain and a member of the Chester Moose Lodge, the Chester Eagles, the Hardees Coffee Club and an avid commercial fisherman. Visitation was at the Quernheim Funeral Home where a funeral was conducted Wednesday, July 2, the Rev. Ron Coleman officiating. Burial was at the Waterloo City Cemetery.
Nelson J. Vogt Sr., 73, of Waterloo, died May 1, 2008, in Nashville. He was born Dec. 9, 1934, in Maeystown, the son of the late Leonard and Laverna Vogt nee Churchill. He was married to Dollie M. Vogt nee Bowles. Mr. Vogt is survived by his wife; children Sandra Hubler of Millstadt, Susan Vogt of Waterloo, and Nelson J. (Amy) Vogt. Jr. of Albers; grandchildren William Hubler, Thaddeus Hubler, Shane Buettner, Carly Vogt and Fletcher Vogt; along with brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Cindy Ann Vogt, sister Gladys Dixon, and brothers Milton Bert Vogt, Rolla Vogt, Raymond Vogt and Clemence Vogt. Mr. Vogt was a lifetime member of Waterloo VFW Post 6504 and the Teamsters. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral service was at Quernheim, Pastor William Groennert officiating. He is buried at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Madonnaville. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or Diabetes Association.
Timothy Joseph Racine, 51, of Lake St. Louis, Mo., died May 1, 2008. He was born June 5, 1956 in Florida, the son of Joe and Mary Racine of Waterloo. In addition to his parents, he is survived by brothers Glen Racine of St. Charles, Mo., John Kyle (Janis) Racine of Aurora and Sean Racine of St. Charles, Mo.; and niece Lauren Racine. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and uncles. He was a member of the BMW Car Club. Visitation was Thursday, May 8, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was Friday, May 9, 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester with Father Eugene H. Wojcik officiating. Mr. Racine is buried at the church's cemetery.
Linda Leistler Evans, 47, of Columbia, formerly of Dupo, died May 3, 2008. She was born August 7, 1960 in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Walter and Joan (Percival) Leistler of Columbia. She was a retired assistant manager with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and an active supporter for the Relay for Life. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Robert (Robin) Leistler of Waterloo; nephew, Rance Leistler; niece, Shelby Leistler; and dear friend, Mark Evans of Dupo. Visitation was Tuesday, May 6, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral was Wednesday, May 7, 11 a.m., at Lawlor's. The body was cremated. Memorials may be made to the Monroe County Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
