Dolores “Dodie” Edna Rahn, 80 of Millstadt, died Aug. 5, 2011, at Columbia Convalescent Center. She was born April 7, 1931 in Valmeyer, the daughter of the late Carl and Frieda (Niemann) Bieber. Mrs. Rahn is survived by her daughter, Pam (John) Rehling of Millstadt; grandchildren April Rahn of Millstadt, Joel Rahn of Millstadt, Max (Amanda) Rehling of St. Louis, Mo., and Gwen Rehling of Charleston, SC.; great-grandson, Jacob Rahn; and brother, George Bieber; along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Rahn; along with eight brothers and two sisters. Dodie was an accountant for 25 years for Commerce Publishing Co. in St. Louis, Moo., and she also had worked at different places in downtown St. Louis. She attended Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt. She volunteered at 10 years each at Memorial Hospital and the Missouri Botanical Gardens. Dodie bowled at Panorama Lanes in Belleville for 10 years and was also in a ladies golf league. Dodie was an accomplished painter, horticulturist, devoted grandmother and member of the Herb Society. One of the many highlights of her life were the two visits to Millstadt’s sister city of Groß-Bieberau, Germany. Visitation is Monday, Aug. 8, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt. Funeral is Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Church in Millstadt with Rev. Darrell Weber officiating. Mrs. Rahn will be buried at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt. Memorials may be made to her church or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Harold W. Miller, 89, of Waterloo, died Aug. 11, 2011 in Waterloo. He was born June 8, 1922 in Hecker, the son of the late Charles and Bertha (nee Barker) Miller. Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Marie (Sensel) Miller; children, Ronald (Brenda) Miller and Donna (Terry) Holcomb; and grandchildren, Scott Miller, Christy Green, Darrel (Dawn) Goeddel, Shane (Leanne) Stechmesser; Brad (Christine) Stechmesser, Terry (Laurie) Holcomb, Angie (Jim) Cissell and Nikki (Craig) Pelate; along with great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by brothers, Oscar, Leland and Raymond Miller; and a sister, Irene Pfeifer. Mr. Miller was retired from Monsanto. Visitation is Sunday, Aug. 14, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Monday, Aug. 15, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Nancy Spier-Lee officiating. Mr. Miller will be buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Oak Hill’s Alzheimer's Unit or Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Mikayla Lynn Hoefft, 16, of Waterloo, died Aug. 12, 2011 in St. Louis, Mo., following a vehicle accident on the Valmeyer highway. She was born May 31, 1995 in Red Bud. Mikayla is survived by her mother, Lisa (Pat) Huebner; father, Stephen “Buddy” (Tari) Hoefft; siblings Sheldon Hoefft, Adam (Carrie) Hoggard, Erica (Scott) Jackson and Elliot Newcom; grandparents PamFoster; and Marvin and Carolyn Henry; and great-grandmother Evelyn Foster; along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousins. She was preceded in death by grandfather, Stephen D. Hoefft Sr.; and an uncle, James Hoefft. Mikayla attended Zion UCC of St. Joe. She was a junior at Waterloo High School where she was involved with the FFA, Drama Club, Yearbook Staff, Speech Team and SHOW. Mikayla was a member of the Rough Riders 4-H Club, volunteered at the Humane Society of Monroe County and was an organ donor. Visitation is Tuesday, Aug. 16, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Wednesday,Aug. 17, at 10 a.m., at St. Paul UCC in Waterloo with Pastor Nancy Spier-Lee officiating. Mikayla will be buried at the Zion UCC Cemetery in St. Joe. Memorials may be made to the youth program at Zion UCC of St. Joe, the Humane Society of Monroe County of the Waterloo FFA.

Lindell J. Crump, 63, of Waterloo, died Aug. 13, 2011 in Waterloo. He was born Nov. 13, 1947 in St. Louis, Mo. Mr. Crump is survived by his wife, Maria (Pastrovich) Crump; sons Glen (Denise) Crump and Matt (Cheryl) Crump; grandchildren Dylan, Sarah, Cameron and Mackenzie; father, Lindell T. (Lisa) Crump; and siblings Wayne (Tiffany) Crump, Mary Lynn Schneider, Jerry (Linda) Crump; Ward (Diann) Crump and Joe Crump; along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ellen (Mayfield) Crump; and infant half-brothers Craig and Greg. Mr. Crump was a commodity broker who owned Crump Commission Company at the National Stockyards. Mr. Crump was a member of the Boy Scouts, 4H, FFA, Knights of Columbus, Rotary International, American Angus Association, Pork Producers, Missouri Life and Health Insurance Producer. Lindell was passionate about livestock production, marketing and all aspects of agriculture. His hobbies included training young horses, horseback riding, politics, current events, wine making and being a proponent of the FFA. Visitation is Wednesday, Aug. 17, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Thursday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home with Father Dale Maxfield officiating. Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice.

Robert E. Guttmann, 80, of St. Charles, Mo., died Aug. 17, 2011. He was born in Fults, the son of the late Walter and Etta Guttmann. Mr. Guttmann is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce (Schulte) Guttmann; daughters, Vicki (Glenn) Serfling, Patti (Pete) Barrett, Kathi D’Arcangelis and Trudy (Mike) Barrett; grandchildren, Robbie, Julie, Ashlee, Callee, Danielle, Kelsey, Mikayla and Travis; and a great-grandchild, Dex. Robert was a graduate of Valmeyer High School and was a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he received a National Defense Service medal.

Rose Mary Yochum, 72, of Waterloo, died Aug. 18, 2011. She was born Sept. 2, 1938, in Montana Mines, WV., the daughter of Benjamin and Rose (Patrick) Vanata. She married Harold W. Yochum in 1962 in Newport News, Va. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Yochum is survived by her mother, Rose Marie Vanata of Mapleton, Penn.; sons, Stephen (Nancy) Yochum, Mark (Kelly)Yochum and Gregory (Andrea) Yochum, all of Columbia; a daughter, Lisa (Graig) D. Bower of Reno, Nev.; grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, Alyssa, Alex, Austin, Emma, Mark, Mackenzie, Conner, Caleb, Corey, Daniel, Christian and Hunter; sisters Blanche (Gene) Rowan and Jody Onoffrey; and a brother, Buddy (Barbara) Vanata. She was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Franklin Vanata; granddaughter, Addriana Yochum; and daughter-in-law, Christina Yochum. There will be a private visitation. Funeral is Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 11:15 p.m., at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. The funeral will leave Lawlor Funeral Home at 10:50 p.m.

Violet May Stiening, nee Fritchley, 90, of Waterloo, died Aug. 23, 2011 in Waterloo. She was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Mt. Carmel, the daughter of the late Chester and Bernice (nee Rosignol) Fritchley. Mrs. Stiening is survived by her son, Michael (Shirley) Stiening; grandchildren, Lorrie (John) Naumann, Chad (Amelia) Stiening and Christa Stiening; great-grandchildren, Haley Kaestner, Peyton Kaestner, Laycee Naumann, Cecily Stiening, Vivian Stiening and Ansley Stiening; and sister-in-law, Flora Valentine and Imogene Fritchley; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Stiening; and an infant grandson, Christopher Stiening; along with her sisters and brothers. Mrs. Stiening was very active at her church, St. Paul UCC of Waterloo. She was the former church school superintendent, a Sunday school teacher a member of the Women's Guild. Violet was a housewife who was known as a gifted seamstress, exceptional cook and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Visitation and funeral were at her church with Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. Arrangements were handled by Quernheim Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to her church, Oak Hill or Hospice of Southern Illinois.

John R. Davis, 57, of Fults, died Aug. 24, 2011 in Waterloo. He was born Nov. 25, 1953 in Red Bud. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Carolyn (nee Hankins) Davis; children, Stacy (Michael) Spihlmann, Denise (Charles) Brandenburger and Joey Davis; mother, Margaret Davis; sisters, Margaret Schlotmann, Mary Ann Whelan and Patty (Ronald) Lippert; brother, Eddie (Susan) Davis; and six grandchildren; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Lee Davis; and brother, Larry Davis. Mr. Davis was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Dale Maxfield officiating. Memorials may be made to the family.

Mark A. Lawson, 48, of Columbia, died Aug. 24, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. He was born Sept. 2, 1962 in St. Louis, Mo. Mark married Deborah (nee Reynolds) Lawson in 2009. In addition to his wife, Mr. Lawson is survived by his children, Alan Lawson Jr. and Krista Lawson, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; mother, Nancy Borgstede of Florissant, Mo.; in-laws William and Dorothy Reynolds of Jefferson City, Mo.; brothers, Michael(Roberta) Lawson of Florissant, Mo., Thomas Lawson of St. Louis, Mo., and Leo McCandless of St. Louis, Mo; and his dog, Guinness; along with brothers-in-law, nephews, cousin and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Alan Lawson. Mr. Lawson was employed by Sigman Heating and Cooling in Belleville. He attended Christ Community Lutheran Church in Columbia where he was active in the Lutheran Men's Group. He was a member of the Looking Glass Corvette Club in O’Fallon and the Business Network International of Belleville. Visitation is Sunday, Aug. 28, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Braun Family Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral is Monday, Aug. 29, at 1 p.m., at Christ Community Lutheran Church in Columbia with Pastor Jared Parker officiating. Mr. Lawson will be buried at the St. Paul Evangelical Cemetery in Columbia. Memorials may be made to the West County M.S. Center.

Rowan Ford Tanner, 78, of Millstadt, died Aug. 25, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo. He was born July 25, 1933 in Owensboro, Ky., the son of the late Alney and Jeanette, (nee Johnson) Tanner. Rowan married Irene (nee Luebbert) Tanner is 1971. In addition to his wife, Mr. Tanner is survived by his children, Richard (Carla) Lock of Millstadt, Jerome Lock of Millstadt, Charles (Georgia) Lock of Waterloo and Ann Smith of Maeystown; grandchildren, Shayne Elie, Jessica Lock, Justin Lock, August Lock, Matt Lock, Jason Smith, Michelle Smith, Will Zucha and Kevin Smith; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Olivia and Blake Elie, Ava, Stone, Ryleigh, Royan and Cayden Smith, and Lillie and Violet Eames; and siblings Delbert Tanner, Allan Tanner, Winona Parker and Edna Bivins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Martin; and nieces and nephews, Jan Parker, Donald Parker, Mike Parker, Andrew Tanner and Caroline Tanner. Rowan was a veteran of the United States Army. He had worked in claims for various truck lines. He most previously was employed at Preston Trucking in St. Louis, Mo. He was a member of Local 688. After retirement, Rowan worked at H & R Block. Visitation is Sunday, Aug. 28, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt. Funeral is Monday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m., at St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt with Monsignor Marvin Volk officiating. Mr. Tanner will be buried at Valhalla Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Belleville. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, the National Kidney Association or to St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt.
