Marian Lehenbauer, 87, of Livingston, Mont., and formerly of Columbia, died Aug. 27, 2011 at Livingston Health and Rehab Center. She was born Oct. 18, 1923, in Crookston, Minn., the daughter of the late Edward and Frieda (Harre) Widenhoefer. The family moved from Minnesota to Illinois in 1925 where Marian grew up and attended schools in Brussels and Mt. Olive, graduating from Mt. Olive High School in 1941. After high school, she lived and worked in the St. Louis area. Marian married Rev. Herman C. Lehenbauer of Nokomis, in 1944. While serving various Lutheran congregations, they lived in New Haven, Mo., Thomasboro, Clayton and Peoria before settling in Columbia in 1957. Marian moved back to Montana in 1996 and settled in Gardiner, where she volunteered at the Gardiner Community Library and participated in the After 5 Christian Women’s Society. Declining health eventually moved her to the Livingston Health and Rehab Center. There she continued to read and could still play a good game of Scrabble. Mrs. Lehenbauer is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Peter) Schmidt of Gardiner, Mont.; former daughter-in-law Kay Provine of White Bear Lake, Minn.; Minnesota grandchildren Kyle (Kym) Lehenbauer and Michael (Stephanie) Lehenbauer; and granddaughter-in-law Carrie Lehenbauer; Idaho grandchildren T.J. (Michele) Schmidt and Hilary (Jaremy) Erickson; and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, in 1973; her son, Carl, in 1995; and grandson, James, in 2007. In her early years in Columbia, Marian combined being a full-time homemaker while also an active member of her church, St. Paul Lutheran Church of Columbia. Along with caring for her family, she taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the LWML. She enjoyed growing and arranging flowers, embroidering and quilting, and baking chocolate chip cookies for family and friends. In her later years in Columbia, she remained an active member in her church, was the secretary for the local branch of the AAL/Thrivent membership group, and later became a member of the Columbia Senior Citizens Group. Visitation is Saturday, Sept. 3, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Columbia. A funeral will immediately follow with Rev. Steven Theiss officiating. She will be buried at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Arthur W. Trost, 87, of Red Bud, formerly of Waterloo, died Aug. 30, 2011 in Red Bud. He was born April 29, 1934 in Wartburg, the son of the late Fred and Elsie (nee Roth) Trost. Mr. Trost is survived by his wife, Verna (nee Hoffmann) Trost; children Dennis (Janet) Trost and Ellen (Don) Edler; grandchildren Theresa (Patrick) Holly, Brian (Robin) Edler and Brad (Kate) Edler; great-grandchildren Trey and Lucas Holly, and Dallen Edler; and a sister, Doris Hoerr; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Trost. Mr. Trost attended St. John UCC in Maeystown. He was the founder of Trost Plastics and Trost Feed and Supply. His children still own and operate Trost Plastics. Visitation is Friday, Sept. 2, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Saturday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m., at St. John UCC in Maeystown with Pastor Patrick Poole officiating. Mr. Trost will be buried at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to his church.

Arthur Weinel, 92, of Columbia died Aug.30, 2011. He was born March 21, 1919, in Columbia, the son of the late Louis Philip and Edna Dorothea (Schoening) Weinel. He married Ruth (Love) Weinel in 1941. She died in 2008. Mr. Weinel is survived by his son, Jim (Solveig) Weinel of Greensboro, NC.; a daughter, Joan Love Gibbs of Columbia; a sister, Edna Dell Weinel of Columbia; and a brother, Jim E. Weinel of San Diego, Calif. Mr. Weinel served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. in St. Louis after 42 years of service, where he was an award-winning regional sales manager. Visitation is Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Lawlor Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow with Rev. William Groennert and Rev. Sheldon Culver officiating.

Roy R. Brellinger, 70, of Orange City, Fla., formerly of Columbia, died Sept. 1, 2011. He was born June 14, 1941, in Belleville, the son of the late Clarence and Florence (Hoock) Brellinger. Mr. Brellinger is survived by his wife, Judy (Schultz) Brellinger; children Kim (Michael) Blankenship of Waterloo, Dana Grimes of Orange City, Fla., and Jan (Robert) Domingus of Deland, Fla.; grandchildren, Chris, Amanda and Madison Blankenship, Scotty Shaw and Dayton Domingus; sisters, Carol (Bob) Dougherty of Red Bud and Jean Showe of Sparta, Tenn., June (Tim) Ribbing of Gold Canyon, Ariz; and Amy (Joe) Berry of Columbia; and a brother, Alan (Mary) Brellinger of Valmeyer. Mr. Brellinger versed in the United States Army. He was the former owner and operator of the Gateway Truck Body Shop in St. Louis, Mo. Roy was an avid bass fisherman and was a member of the Monroe County Lunker Hunters Bass Fishing Club. Visitation is Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral is Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia with Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. Mr. Brellinger will be buried at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Charles A. Goldschmidt, 75, of Columbia, died Sept. 1, 2011 in St. Louis, Mo. He was born April 13, 1936 in Merrimac, the son of the late Henry and Lillian (nee Kuehne) Goldschmidt. Mr. Goldschmidt is survived by his wife, Gloria (nee Hern) Goldschmidt; children, Dawn (Kevin) Henke, Charlet Faye (Robert) Sadeghian, Wade (Kathy) Goldschmidt, Page (Andy) Williams and Chad Goldschmidt; grandchildren, Erica, Jered, Quinn, Justin, Brandon, Alexandra, Cole, Cierra, Dawson, Chase, Alec and Kendra; great-grandchildren, Jake, Cruz and Gabriel; and a sister-in-law, Barb Goldschmidt; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Kade Goldschmidt; and a brother, Howard Goldschmidt. Mr. Goldschmidt attended St. John UCC in Valmeyer. He was a member of the Waterloo Masonic Lodge 787, Scottish Rite, Ainad Temple Shriners, Musician Union and the Waterloo McDonald's Coffee Club. Visitation is Saturday, Sept. 10, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. John United Church of Christ in Valmeyer. A memorial service will immediately follow with Pastor David Riebeling officiating. Memorials may be made to the church or to the American Heart Association.

Kenneth A. Lich, 72, of Waterloo, died Sept. 5, 2011 in Centreville. He was born July 23, 1939 in Waterloo, the son of the late Elmer and Ella (nee Giffhorn) Lich. Mr. Lich is survived by a sister, Arlene Myers; and cousins. Visitation is Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral will immediately follow with Pastor Dick Sparrow officiating. Mr. Lich will be buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo.

Donald Edwin Hurley Sr. 69, of Dupo, died Sept. 6, 2011 at his home. He was born Jan. 7, 1942 in Charleston, Mo., the son of the late Freddie Joe and Lillian Geneva (nee Eldridge) Hurley. Mr. Hurley is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janis (nee Hight) Hurley; sons, Donald Edwin (Lisha) Hurley II of Waterloo and David Lee Hurley of Dupo; grandchildren, Jessica and Brittani; brother, Fred (Barbara “Bobbie”) Hurley of Cahokia; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ronnie Jean Hurley of Iowa, Carolyn (Gary) Schremp of Waterloo, Jerry (Karen) Hight of Freeburg and James (Beverly) Hight of Okawville; along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Lee Hurley. Mr. Hurley served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a retired receiver at Crown Foods in St. Louis, Mo. Visitation is Thursday, Sept. 8, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Dashner-Leesman Funeral Home in Dupo. A funeral will immediately follow with Rev. Roger Reid officiating. Mr. Hurley will be buried at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Irene (Kjell) Baker, nee Kjell, 87, of Waterloo, died Sept. 6, 2011 at Oak Hill Care Center in Waterloo. She was born July 2, 1924, in Florence County, Wisc., the daughter of the late Harry and Julia (Sjoberg) Kjell. Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband, Robert Baker; sons, Gary (Rhonda) Baker of North Aurora, Craig (Kristine) Baker of Baton Rouge, La., and Brian (JoAnn) Baker of Columbia; daughter, Carol (Karl) Merbach of Rapid City, S.D.; a sister, Harriett (Nate) Anderson; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Baker; sisters, Gloria Patzke and Violet Harpel; and a brother, Kenneth Kjell. Mrs. Baker worked as a registered nurse in a variety of capacities, including at the hospital, doctor’s office, nursing home and home health care setting. Irene was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, the Lions Club and the Loyal Order of the Moose. She was also active in her church, along with school and community functions. A memorial service will be Friday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m., at Hope Christian Church in Columbia with Pastor Jones officiating. Arrangements were handled by Lawlor Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Center in Washington Park.

William A. Largent Sr., 84, of Waterloo, died Sept. 6, 2011 in St. Louis. He was born March 25, 1927 in East St. Louis, the son of the late Fred and Louisa (nee Recklein) Largent. Mr. Largent is survived by his wife, Lucille (nee Gray) Largent; children, William (Debbie) Largent Jr. and Gene (Patty) Largent; grandchildren, Ethan (Becky) Largent, Kyle (Angie) Largent and Collin (Jen) Largent; great-grandchildren, Maris, Za'nyah, Kara and Sienna Largent; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Vivian Gray; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Largent was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremey Crossno; along with two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Largent was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was retired from Monsanto. Visitation is Thursday, Sept. 8, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Friday, Sept. 9, at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Neill officiating. Mr. Largent will be buried at Valhalla Memorial Gardens in Belleville. Memorials may be made to the Oak Hill Activity Fund.

Carol Frances Baxmeyer, nee Weber, 69, of Waterloo, died Sept. 8, 2011 in Waterloo after an extended battle with cancer. She was born March 13, 1942 in Belleville, the daughter of the late John and Kathryn (nee Koerber) Weber. Mrs. Baxmeyer is survived by her husband, K. Richard “Boxy” Baxmeyer; children James (Pam) Pagliai, John Baxmeyer and Dennis (Heather) Baxmeyer; step-children James Baxmeyer, David (Valerie) Baxmeyer and Kim (Roger) Strong; grandchildren Natalie (Chad) Taake, Deirdre (Derrick) Gregson, Nathan (Amy) Strong, Nicole and Kelli Strong, and Keegan, Erynn, Kirsten, Paige, Skylar, Nola, Kendall and Koen Baxmeyer; great-grandchildren Ayla and Alyvia Strong and Holly and Henry Gregson; siblings Gene (Joyce) Weber, Kenny (Ruth) Weber and Violet (Hank) Schneider; and a sister-in-law, Diane Weber; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Kadin Baxmeyer; daughter-in-law Kathy Baxmeyer; and brother David Weber. Mrs. Baxmeyer attended Hope Christian Church. She loved her family and friends and was always concerned with their needs. Visitation is Saturday, Sept. 10, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Hope Christian Church. Funeral is Sunday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m., at the church with Pastor Darrell Jones officiating. Mrs. Baxmeyer will be buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Quernheim Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Memorials may be made to her church’s food pantry or the Austin Baum Memorial Fund for J.U.M.P. Camp.
