Florence E. Metzger-Lenauer, nee Schmidt, 92, of Swansea, formerly of Waterloo, died March 31, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. She was born Jan 4, 1922 in Waterloo, the daughter of the late Otto and Bertha (nee Haberl) Schmidt. Mrs. Lenauer is survived by her daughter, Susan (Bill) Pelch of Belleville; a son, Robert (Sheryl) Metzger of Waterloo; and grandchildren, Clay (Debbie) Metzger, Aaron (Karla) Metzger, Collin (Kathy) Metzger, Jeff Pelch (Will Abbott) and Garrett Pelch (Rachel Herbert); and nine great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Armin “Buddy” Metzger, who died in August 1957 at age 35; her second husband, Albert W. Lenauer, whom she married in 1969 and died Jan. 26, 2011; sisters, Helen Becker and Audrey Reinhold; and a brother, Frank Schmidt. After graduating from Waterloo High School, Mrs. Lenauer worked as a secretary at Emerson Electric and Travelers Insurance in St. Louis. She retired from Pet, Inc. in 1978. She attended Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Belleville. She bowled in senior bowling leagues in Belleville and was a member of the Belleville Senior Citizens. Mrs. Lenauer donated her body to Saint Louis University School of Medicine. A Memorial Mass is Saturday, May 17, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, in Belleville. A reception will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by the mass. Renner Funeral Home in Belleville handled arrangements. Memorials may be made to Family Hospice.

William “Bill” Posey, 68, of North Fort Meyers, Fla., formerly of Waterloo, died April 19, 2014. He was born Oct. 30, 1945, in Earl, Ark., the son of the late John and Susie (nee Pouders) Posey. Mr. Posey is survived by his wife Janet (nee Mathews) Posey; a daughter, Connie (Tony) May; brothers, Truman Posey, Numan "Pete" (Alma) Posey and Ray (Barb) Posey; sisters, Dessie (Sheldon) Prince, Ilene (Eddie) Vandiver, Linda Wayland and Joyce Guebert; grandchildren, Courtney (Jason) Siburt, Macy Toal, Griffin Toal, Camille Toal, Joe May and Melissa May; and great-grandchildren, Elli Dinges, Dalen Dinges and Abbey Siburt. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Posey, Lee Posey and Butch Posey; a twin sister, Glenda Byrd; and a sister, Ernestine Myhan. A celebration of life in his honor was held at the home of his daughter. Pastor Matt Friz officiated. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Donald Howard Steingrubey, 80, died March 17, 2014. Roberta June Steingrubey, nee Oettle, 80, died Jan. 6, 2013. They were from originally Waterloo, but had moved to Fayetteville, Ark. They are survived by their children, Keith Steingrubey and Sandy (Alan) Burch; along with seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The couple were preceded in death by their son, Donald Steingrubey, Jr. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Les Elam officiating.

Lillian Viola Goley, nee Raeber, 93, of Dupo, died April 5, 2014 at Oak Hill. She was born Jan. 23, 1921 in Waterloo, the daughter of the late Eugene and Myrtle (nee Dammann) Raeber. Lilian married Lawrence “Gene” Eugene Goley, Sr. in 1942. He died in 1995. Mrs. Goley is survived by her daughter, Cora Ann (David) Dowling of Rochester; sons, Lawrence E. (Jerre) Goley, Jr. of Waterloo and Dewayne (Jennifer) Goley of Waterloo; grandchildren, Anna Dowling, Cara Christine McVey, Scooter Goley, Jessica Goley, William Goley and Joseph Goley; and a great - granddaughter, Lauren Nicole McVey; along with nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold and Glenn Raeber; and her sister, Adelia Bryant. Lillian worked as a secretary, starting with GMAC and later with her husband at Goley Insulation. She attended Christ UCC in Dupo. Private family visitation and funeral services were held with Rev. Todd Mushaney officiating. Mrs. Goley was buried at the Valhalla Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Belleville. Memorials may be made to Oak Hill’s Whispering Pines.

Doreen Hoffmann, nee Weber, 90, of Waterloo, died April 2, 2014. She was born Oct. 19, 1923, in Valmeyer, the daughter of the late William and Catherine (nee Schlemmer) Weber. Mrs. Hoffmann is survived by her children, Gene (Diane) Hoffmann, Bob (Marilyn) Hoffmann and Ron "Curly" (Joy) Hoffmann; grandchildren, Gina (Max) Eybel, Laura (Michael) Richter, Kelly Hoffmann, Sarah (Karl) Krebel and Brian (Tara) Hoffmann; step-grandchildren, Charity Cotton and Andrew Bagsby; great-grandchildren, Madison Eybel and Brianna Thompson, Hannah Thompson, Jada Cover, Klair and Samuel Krebel, and Brennen and Avery Hoffmann; step-great-granddaughters Aniesa Bagsby and Jaycee Cotton; a sister, Gladys Bequette; and her brother, Donald (Theresa) Weber; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman F. Hoffmann; sister. Rosie Kleyer; brother, Kenneth Weber; and brothers-in-law, Willard Kleyer and Carl Bequette. Mrs. Hoffmann attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Madonnaville. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and spending time with her family. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Father Osang Idagbo officiating. Mrs. Hoffmann was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery.

Theodore R. Hartman, 91, of Smithton, died April 2, 2014, in Waterloo. He was born Feb. 21, 1923 in Germany, the son of the late Theodore, Sr. and Frieda Hartman. Mr. Hartman is survived by his wife, Agnes (nee Hegger) Hartman; children,Ron (Pat) Hartman and Linda Rae (Elmer) Bowman; and step-children, Suzanne (Kevin) Sweet, Gregory (Diane) Narez, David (Phyllis) Narez and Russell Narez (Sissy); along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Richard Hartman; and a stepson Randall Narez. Mr. Hartman served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and “Forty and Eight.” A memorial service was at Oak Hill with Clergy Father Osang Idagbo officiating. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Mr. Hartman was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to the Veterans Administration.

Pamela S. Colvis, nee Hume, 50, of Columbia, formerly of Waterloo, died April 4, 2014, in St. Louis. She was born Sept. 23, 1963, in Red Bud, the daughter of the late Richard and Dorothy (nee Nobbe) Hume. Mrs. Colvis is survived by her daughter, Jessica (John) Kraft; grandchildren, Elizabeth Kraft and Joseph Kraft; sisters, Cathy (Samuel) Guth, Shari Jarrett and Patsy (Brad) Hicks; and nieces and nephews, Mindy, Toni, Terri, Tonya, Lacey, Jamie and Casey; along with brothers-in-law, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Terry Jarrett. Mrs. Colvis attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo with Pastor Tony Troup officiating. Mrs. Colvis was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery.

Gerald R. “Jerry” Otten, 65, of Columbia, died April 5, 2014, in Columbia, following a battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 24, 1948, in East St. Louis, the son of Billea (nee Hack) Otten and the late Leroy H. Otten. Besides his mother, Mr. Otten is survived by his siblings, Roy (Diane) Otten, Marvel (Teresa Rusteberg) Otten, David (Ellen) Otten and Rosalie (Allen) Kern; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Terry Otten; and a great-niece, Lindsey Otten. Mr. Otten earned a Bronze Star while serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Waterloo VFW Post 6504. Jerry was retired from Illinois Central Railroad. He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his good friends at Main Street Bar. As per Jerry’s request, there were no services. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Clara H. Sondag, nee Bade, 97, of Waterloo, died April 7, 2014 in Waterloo. She was born April 6, 1917 in Maeystown, the daughter of the late Fred and Caroline (nee Fromme) Bade. Mrs. Sondag is survived by her children, Paulette (Allan) Englerth, Carol Jean (Mark) Pinkerton and Diane (Mark) Gorris; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad) Whelan, Jamie (William) Riechmann, Chad Kaestner, Christine (Paul) Hrdlicka, Ryan Kaestner, Austin, Andrea and Alissa Gorri; and great-grandchildren, Cole Matzen-bacher Evan Riechmann, Lily Riechmann, Emily Whelan, Alvia Hrdlicka and Jake Hrdlicka; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Sondag; grandson, Jeffrey Englerth; and siblings, Viola Carton, Oliver Bade, Leona Coats and Marie Coats. Mrs. Sondag attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Don Blasé officiating. Mrs. Sondag was buried at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to her church, the American Cancer Society or to Oak Hill.

Dennis “Jerry” Pretto, 61 of Columbia, died April 7, 2014. He was born April 11, 1952, in Belleville, the son of the late Giosue and Anna (nee Aimerito) Pretto. Jerry married Lisa (nee Gobber) Pretto in 1992 in St. Louis. In addition to his wife, Mr. Pretto is survived by his children, Angela (John) Schlimme of Aviston, Mandy (Travis) Denison of Columbia, Samantha Pretto of St. Louis, Dennis Pretto of Springfield, Mo., Kimberlyn Pretto of Columbia and Hailey Pretto of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Pretto; sister-in-law, Glenda Pretto; and his father-in-law, Mervin Gobber. Mr. Pretto served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Jerry was a member of Operating Engineers Local 513. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home, Columbia. Funeral was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia with Father Carl Scherrer officiating. Mr. Pretto was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. St. Louis. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund or to the Pretto Children's Trust Fund.
