Victor J. Koch, 95, of Valmeyer, died March 25, 2014, in Red Bud. He was born Jan. 1, 1919, in Harrisonville, the son of the late Joe and Mary (nee Engel) Koch. Mr. Koch is survived by his children, Jane (Herb) Muertz, John (Gail) Koch and Bob Koch; grandchildren, Russell (Lori) Walster, Rhett Walster, Andrea Tutor, Marla Ahne, Brandon Koch, Nicole Koch and R.J. Koch; and great-grandchildren, Russell Ray Walster, Abbie Walster, Kayla Tutor, Cale Tutor, Lexis Tutor, Logan Tutor, London Schefft and Harryson Walster; along with niece, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine (nee Kirchner) Koch; a sister ,Clementine "Sis" Floarke; and brothers, Raymond and Steven Koch. Mr. Koch attended of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Valmeyer. He was a former member of Southern Illinois Wildlife Federation. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at Immaculate Conception Church in Madonnaville with Father Urban Osuji officiating. Mr. Koch was buried at the church’s cemetery. Marvin J. Jehling, 92, of Columbia, died March 26, 2014 at Columbia Rehab and Nursing Center. He was born Jan. 27, 1922, in Fountain, the son of the late Phillip and Wilhelmina (nee Frank) Jehling. Marvin married Leah (nee Kolmer) Jehling in 1946 in Waterloo. She died in 2003. Mr. Jehling is survived by his son, Thomas (Barbara) Jehling of Pauma Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Barbara (Don Schult) Jehling of Columbia; grandchildren, John Thomas and Lindy Rae Jehling; niece, Nancy Cash; and a nephew, Don Jehling. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Bardeleben; and brothers, Arthur, Joseph and Earl Jehling. Mr. Jehling served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired office manager at National Auto Supply. Marvin attended St. Paul UCC in Columbia. Visitation and funeral were at Lawlor Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. Raymond F. Washausen, 91, of Waterloo, died March 27, 2014. He was born Sept. 7, 1922 in Waterloo, the son of the late Charles and Mary (nee Bicklein) Washausen. Mr. Washausen is survived by his wife, Bertha (nee Wild) Washausen; daughters, Judith Gipson, Janet Steibel and Joyce (Dennis) Pfeffer; and a son, James (Sharon) Washausen; along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Roider; a brother, John Washausen; and a brother-in-law, Frank Gipson. Mr. Washausen attended St. Paul UCC in Waterloo. He was retired from the City of Waterloo and was a foreman at Crowder Farms. Ray was a member of the Waterloo Odd Fellows and the Smithton Sportsman’s Club. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Willard A. Scheibe, 79, of Waterloo, died March 27, 2014, in Columbia . He was born Aug. 21, 1934 in Maeystown, the son of the late Max and Sylvia (nee Fromme) Scheibe. He married Opal (Eichelmann) Scheibe in 1958. She died in 2007. Mr. Scheibe is survived by his brother-in-law, Wesley (Dixie) Eichelmann; and nieces and nephews, Brenda (Jim) Krebel, Sandy Baldwin, Carol (Ray) Turnquist, Kevin Eichelmann, Bob (Denise) Eichelmann, Lisa Meegan, Randy (Rose) Marquardt, Gary (Ramona) Marquardt, Tracy (Char) Marquardt and Scott (Darlene) Marquardt; along with members of the Scheibe, Eichelmann and Toenjes families. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Otto and Millie Eichelmann, Bill Eichelmann, Art and Arlou (Eichelmann) Marquardt and Paul and Leola Eichelmann. Mr. Scheibe served in the U.S. Marines from 1953 to 1975. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Willard was a loyal member of the Monroe County Democratic Club. For his dedication to the party, he received the first Leroy Reitz Award. He was also member of the Waterloo VFW, American Legion, Fleet Reserve Association and Maeystown Sportsman's Club and the Democratic Club. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Friz officiating. Mr. Scheibe was buried at the Waterloo City Cemetery. George Weber III, 76, of Town and Country, Mo., died March 21, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. Mr. Weber was the owner of the Weber Chevrolet family of dealerships in Columbia, Granite City and Creve Coeur, Mo. He married Mary Hunt Evans in 1962. She died in 2008. Mr. Weber is survived by a son, George “Skip” (Lori) Weber IV of Columbia; daughters, Laura Malzahn and Mary Oglesby, both of Town and Country, and Susan McMillan of Creve Coeur; sisters, Marilyn Griesedick and Emily Schwartz, both of Town and Country; and 14 grandchildren. Mr. Weber was a prominent automobile dealer in the St. Louis area and appeared in his dealership’s television and radio advertisements. He grew up in St. Louis, graduating from John Burroughs School in 1955. Mr. Weber then went to Duke University, earning a degree in mechanical engineering. After working for Standard Oil in Ohio, George returned to St. Louis and began working at the family business Weber Chevrolet on Lindell and Sarah in St. Louis. He worked his way up to managing the Creve Coeur dealership in 1978. In the 1980s he began expanding the business to four stores, including Columbia, Granite City and Waterloo. Having experienced many changes in the automobile industry, he took great pride in remaining loyal to the Chevrolet brand. He was known to encourage all buyers to buy American no matter where they purchased their vehicle. Mr. Weber was an avid sailor and boats man who loved traveling the world. He particularly loved the islands in the Caribbean and spending time in Door County, Wisc., and Delray Beach, Fla. He was supportive of many charities including the American Cancer Society, the USO, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Gideons International, Far East Broadcasting and numerous military-support charities. Visita-tion is Thursday, April 3, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at First Evangelical Free Church of West County. The funeral is Friday, April 4, at 10 a.m., at the church. Mr. Weber will be buried at Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Loretta C. Spellmeyer, 73, of Columbia died March 3, 2014. She was born Oct. 16, 1940 at Vinton, La., the daughter of the late Leroy and Mary Ann (Mehling) Hebert. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Donald G. Spellmeyer; two daughters, Mary (Herbert) Wiseman and Cindy Dennison; a son, Jeffrey Spellmeyer; two step-daughters, Debra (Robert) Stifiermann and Pamela (Brian) Padgett; a brother, J.E. (Norma) Hebert; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Spellmeyer was a retired cafeteria worker at Bayless High School in St. Louis County. Visitation and funeral were at Kutis Affton Chapel in St. Louis County. Burial was at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Thomas Mooney, 72, of Renault died March 8, 2014. Mr. Mooney is survived by his wife, Janet (nee Goldschmidt) Mooney; a daughter, Melissa (Gary) Tisdale; sons, Brad (Dawn), Tony and David (Kim) Mooney; grandchildren Alex, Christopher, Ashley, Alex, Brandon and Tiffany; and siblings Janet Hannah, Louis Mooney and Matthew Mooney. JoElla Turner-Huwer, 60, of Millstadt, died March 14, 2014 at her residence. She was born Oct. 21, 1953 in Leadington, Mo., the daughter of the Jerry and Helen Margaret “Skippy” Turner of Belleville. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Turner-Huwer is survived by her husband of 38 years, Dale Huwer; a daughter, Rachel (Dan) Weir of Millstadt; and a sister, Jan (Doug) Bolar. She was preceded in death by her brother, Byron Turner. Mrs. Turner-Huwer was a special education instructional aide at the Millstadt Consolidated School. Betty J. Zygmund, nee Olms, 88, of Waterloo, died March 12, 2014 in Waterloo. She was born March 31, 1925, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (nee Standing) Olms. Mrs. Zygmund is survived by her children, Marty (Marcia) Zygmund and Mike (Tina) Zygmund; grandchildren, Zachary Zygmund (fiancé Alexis Madeline Hoorman), Kyle Zygmund, Karleigh Zygmund and Taylor Nadler; and brothers, Jack (Venita) Olms and Walter Olms; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley J. Zygmund; daughter, Sandy Zygmund; and sisters, Barbara Shartsis, Pat Conway and Margaret Wong. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Frank J. Geolat, 81, of Waterloo, died March 2, 2014, in Waterloo. He was born March 13, 1932 in Belleville, the son of the late John and Hedwig (nee Sandmeyer) Geolat. Mr. Geolat is survived by his wife, Janice (nee Junker) Geolat; children, Christine (Dave) Gould, Diane (Gene) Luthy, Julia (Dennis) Marron, Jerry Geolat, Karen (Bill) Sensel and Mary (Rob Leeling) Geolat; brothers, Norm (Delores) Geolat and Joe (Borgie) Geolat; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Chris Geolat; and brother, Bernard Geolat. Mr. Geolat was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He attended St. Augustine Catholic Church in Hecker, where he was involved in the Holy Name Society. Frank was a member of the Hecker Community Center. Visita-tion was at Quernheim Funeral Home.
