Laurence O. Clark
Laurence O. Clark, age 70, of Danville, formerly of Galesburg, passed away at 9:05 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 1998 at his residence.
He was born September 22, 1928 in Abingdon, Illinois, to Herbert and Verna Lowery Clark. He married Dorothymae Runner Reed. She preceded him in death October of 1983. He later married Annabelle Breezely Mann on October 13, 1990 in Danville. She survives.
Also surviving are four stepsons Terry (Cindy) Reed of Edgewood, NM, Dennis (Denise) Mann, of Monmouth, Illinois, Doug (Janice) Mann of Danville and David (Cindy) Mann of St. Joseph, Illinois; two brothers Allen Clark of Abingdon, Illinois and Claire (Vesta) Clark of Elmwood, Illinois; five grandchildren, Aubrey and Joseph Mann of Danville, Erin and Jacob Mann of Monmouth, Illinois and Shawn Laurence Reed of Edgewood, NM. A special nephew Wayne (Janice) Mann of Danville and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roger Clark.
Larry graduated from Abingdon High school in 1946. He then attended Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois where he graduated in1950. He had also taught for two years at the Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, Illinois.
He was in the US Army from 1950-1952. He had originated and taught the Defensive Biological Warfare School for the Department of Defense in Japan.
His professional career included 37 years as a sales representative for Merck Pharmaceuticals where he received several sales awards for outstanding achievement. He was a mentor for many beginning sales reps during his career.
He was known as "Lefty" or "Larry" to his many friends. He enjoyed his career, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday November 1 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church 1930 N. Bowman Ave. in Danville with Rev. Jeffery Moore officiating. Visitation was also held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday November 2 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home, Galesburg. Graveside and military rites were performed at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday November 3rd at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg.
Memorials in Larry’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, Carle Hospice or the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
James E. White Jr.
James E. White Jr., 31, of 625 S. Dudley, Apt. 5, passed away at 6:34. a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 1999, in Macomb. He was born Nov. 1, 1967, in Canton to James E. Sr. and Cheryl Kathleen Nidiffer White. Surviving are his parents of rural Ellisville; one son, Anthony, and one daughter, Lauren White, both of Pekin; one brother, Christopher of Santa Ana, CA.; one sister, Rebecca Sprecher of. Oswego; and his grandmother, Norma Kaner of Canton. He owned and operated the White-Light and Sound Music Show. He graduated from Spoon River Valley High School near London Mills. Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton, with the Rev. Kevin VanTine officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Canton. Memorials may be made to a trust fund for his children in care of Mid-America National Bank.
Gerald S. Henderson
Gerald S. Henderson, 84, Avon, passed away at 7:15 p.m. Monday, January 18, 1999. at Marigold Health Care Center in Galesburg. Born June 2, 1914, in Cuba to Ralph and Mable Orwig Henderson, he married Eleanor Shinn on September 7, 1940. She survives in Galesburg. Also surviving are one son, Larry of Alexis; four daughters, Linda Riley of Cuba, Donna Perryman of Elmwood, Jackie Cook of Avon, and Geraldine Abernathy of Prairie City; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. He was a truck driver for many years and owned and operated a corn shelling and trucking business. He also was a school bus driver for Avon School district. He was a member and former director of the Illinois Stock Horse Association and a member of the Galesburg Boots and Saddle Club. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 21, at the Prairie City Cemetery in Prairie City with the Rev. Rick Kerr officiating. Corman Memorial Home in Avon was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Marigold Residents Fund.
Sara Breasaw
Sara E. Breasaw, age 93, of 1792 23rd Ave., Avon, formerly of Bushnell, died at 10:40 p.m. Friday, January 22, 1999, at Avon Nursing Home. Born June 17,1905, in Roodhouse to Milton S. and Ollie R. Snow Lorton, she married Charles W. Breasaw on July 8, 1924, in Bushnell. He died December 26, 1982. One son, Charles, three brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Harry (Dorotha) Barnes of Avon; one brother, Kenneth Lorton of Bushnell; one sister, Lillie Ruark of Lewistown; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and two step great-great granddaughters. She was a former member of the Women’s Relief Corps. She attended Bushnell United Methodist Church Quilting Club. Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Bushnell Cemetery with Rev. Norm Walagoria officiating. Martin-Hollis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to Avon Nursing Home activity department.
Dorothy W. Stinemates
Dorothy W. Stinemates, 81, a resident of LaMoine Christian Nursing Home, Roseville, formerly of Kirkwood, passed away at 1:46 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, 1999, in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. She was born March 11, 1917, in the Reed community in Rozetta Township, Warren County. She was the daughter of Fred Hamil and Cora May Campbell Welch. She married Rolland E. Stinemates on December 16, 1936, near Monmouth; He passed away February 1, 1988. Surviving are one daughter, Bonnie Jean Flatt, Media; one son, Robert Clyde Stinemates, Monmouth; three sisters, Betty Maimone, Stratford, CT, Margaret Haar, Galesburg, formerly of Avon, and Marie Brokaw, Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a cousin, Pat Gustafson, Smithshire. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister. A licensed practical nurse, she worked at the former Monmouth Community Memorial Hospital for 11 years before retiring for health reasons. She was a member of Kirkwood United Methodist Church, and a member and past worthy matron of Mary Lincoln Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Roseville. She was a member of Mildred Warner Washington Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Kirkwood Community Club. She was a member of the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and volunteered for the Kirkwood Heart Fund for many years. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday in Turnbull Funeral Home, Monmouth, with the Rev. William Renner officiating. Burial was in Center Grove Cemetery, Kirkwood. Memorials may be made to the Reed Cemetery Association and to Community Medical Center, Auxiliary, Monmouth.
Clyde W. Skinner
Clyde W. Skinner, 68, Abingdon, passed away at 12:25 p.m. Thursday, January 21,1999 in Oakwood Nursing Home, Kewanee. He was born August 1, 1930, Oneida, the son of Clyde W. and Pearl Stegall Skinner. He married Carol Cooley in Galesburg. Surviving are three sons, Kevin Skinner, Abingdon, and Bryan Skinner and Shawn Skinner, both of Galesburg; one brother, Maynard Skinner, East Moline; three sisters, Mildred West, Dahinda, Grace Brown, Galesburg and Dorothy DePrima, Chicago; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a custodian at Audi’s Restaurant. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in East Linwood Cemetery. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Durrill W. Foley
Durrill W. Foley, 65, Joliet, passed away, Saturday, January 23, 1999 at his home. Memorial services were held Thursday, January 28, at 7 p.m. at Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., Joliet. Rev. Earl Thomas officiated and interment was in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
A son of Wendall and Ruth (Frye) Foley, he was born June 21, 1933 in Roseville. He married Mary Lou Kenan, June 1, 1952 in Monmouth, who survives.
Mr. Foley also leaves two sons, Steven and his wife Joyce of Naperville and L. Bradley Foley of Elmwood; three grandchildren; and two nephews.
His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
Mr. Foley was raised and educated in Monmouth graduating from Monmouth High School in 1950. He attended Monmouth College, where he was a member of the ATO Fraternity. He graduated from the Illinois State Police Academy with honors and served as a a state trooper in the Kankakee area.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and in 1961 entered the industrial paint business. At the time of his death, he was an employee of Specialty Coating, Inc., in Elk Grove Village.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Joliet Area Community Hospice or the Cancer Research Foundation.
Ellen L. Solomon
Ellen L. Solomon, age 50, of 726 Memorial Drive, Macomb, Illinois, passed away at 11:10 a.m. on Thursday, January 28, 1999 at her home in Macomb. She was born on July 31, 1948 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence and Mary Beard Bycroft. She married Dale Leon Solomon on June 19, 1996 in Roseville, Illinois.
She is survived by her husband Leon, one daughter Mrs. Jerry (Shelley) Raby of Macomb, two grandchildren Jestin Raby and Calliene Raby both of Macomb, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bycroft of Roseville; one brother Howard (Susan) Bycroft of Roseville; one sister Mrs. Tommy (Karen) Thompson of Bushnell, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
She lived in Roseville, Colchester, LaHarpe, and Morton for one year, Bushnell for two years, back to Roseville for two years, before moving to Macomb in 1988.
Ellen had worked as a nurse at McDonough District Hospital since 1983, she was a Certified Hospice Nurse and had worked for McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program and Home Health Care Program.
She was an active member of the Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb with Rev. David Bycroft and Rev. Chris Williams officiating.
Burial was at the Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb.
Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb was in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program or the Maple Avenue Christian Church.
Ruth Leighty
Ruth Leighty, age 94, formerly of Macomb, Illinois, passed away at 7:36 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 1999, at LaMoine Christian Nursing Home in Roseville.
Born August 7, 1904, in Chalmers Township, McDonough County, to William and Della Fugate Martin, she married Lewis Ray Leighty on August 8, 1924. He died September 11, 1961.
Two brothers and one great-grandson also preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Eldon (Ruth) Ceder of Blandinsville; two sons, Donald of Roseville and Eugene of Quincy; one brother, Herman Martin of Lansing; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
She worked in housekeeping at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb for several years and later was a seamstress.
She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Macomb.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home, Macomb with Revs. Randall Whitmire and Jim Oliver officiating.
Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Macomb.
