Nellie M. Daugherty
Nellie M. Daugherty, age 68, 113 Silver Street, Galesburg, Illinois, passed away at 1:14 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 1999 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She was born December 9, 1930, in Knoxville, the daughter of Charles N. and Helen Fox. She married James J. Daugherty on January 21, 1949. He died May 1976. Survivors include her special friend and roommate, Richard Dickerson; two daughters, Patricia A Shane, Davenport, and Anita K. Hendrikson, Manchester, Washington; five brothers, Charles Fox in Wisconsin, Harry Fox, Abingdon, and Ronnie Fox, Howard Fox and David Fox, all of Washington, Illinois; two sisters, Helen Weidenhamer, Galesburg, and Dorothy Lockward, Knoxville; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother. She was graduated from St. Louis Beauty School. She was a press operator for Maytag-Galesburg Refrigeration Products for 25 years retiring March 1, 1992. She was a member of First Christian Church, Knoxville, the Moose Lodge and the Maytag Admiral Union Retirees. She volunteered at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel. Cremation was accorded following the service. Burial of ashes in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg will be later.
Benjamin Grohmann
Benjamin F. Grohmann, 96, of rural Gilson died at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg. Born April 15, 1902, in rural Smithton to Fred and Anna Herzog Grohmann. He married Mildred Ella Lischer in November 1924 in Smithton. She died Aug. 12, 1991. One son, Wayne, and five brothers also preceded him in death. Surviving are three sons Harvey and Clyde, both of Gilson, and Gary of Westford, Mass.; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two step- great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. A member of Knox County Farm Bureau, he farmed in the St. Clair County area for 23 years and in rural Gilson for 41 years. He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Galesburg. He received a patent right in 1939 for a wind-driven battery charger. Services were held Monday at 11: 00 a.m. at the George Renner & Sons Funeral Home in Smithton. Burial was in Franklin Cemetery in Smithton. Memorials may be made to Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg.
Louise D. Adcock
Mrs. Louise D. Adcock, age 87, of Bangor, PA, formerly of Galesburg, IL, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Sunday, March 7,1999 at Effort, PA. She was born September 3,1911 at Coldbrook, IL, the daughter of Frederick and Euseba Andrews Davis. She married Charles T. Adcock. He survives. Survivors include one son, C. William Adcock, Hockessin, DE; one daughter, Anita L. Sikra, Bangor, PA; one brother, John D. Davis, Galesburg; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Adcock in 1952, one brother and three sisters. She worked for Lerner’s Clothing Store, Youngstown, OH for over 25 years and retired in 1975. She was a member of the Lynkirk Christian Church, Youngstown, OH. She attended St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ, Bangor, PA. She was a volunteer for the Youngstown, Ohio American Red Cross. She was a graduate of the class of 1929 Abingdon High School. Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999 at Abingdon Cemetery with Reverend Ray McLaren officiating. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Abingdon, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Maurice Glenn Todd
SMSGT. Maurice Glenn Todd, U.S. Air Force retired, age 81, of Shalimar, Florida, passed away Wednesday, March 3,1999, at Eglin AFB Hospital, Eglin AFB, Florida. Mr. Todd, who was of the Protestant faith, was born on March 25,1917 in Poplar Plains, Kentucky to the late Garey and Martha Todd. He attended the Abingdon Public Schools in Abingdon, Illinois, graduating from Abingdon High School in 1936. He entered the Army in March 1941. During WWII he served in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands and Europe. He enlisted in the Air Force in December 1947 and retired with 30 years of military service in July 1973 from Hickam AFB, Hawaii. He later attended Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois graduating in May 1979. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Todd of Shalimar, Florida; daughters, Taltha Todd Gollotte and her husband, Jeffery, and Pamela Todd Anderson and her husband, Michael; grandchildren, Robert Todd Anderson, Clark Todd Gollotte, Sharon Michelle Anderson and Addie Maurine Gollotte, all of Opelika, Alabama and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Wilma Todd Brown and his brother, Garey Steele Todd. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, March 22 at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida. A memorial service will be held at 11: 00 a.m. Tuesday, March 23 at Dolores Hope All Faiths Chapel in Bob Hope Village at Shalimar, Florida. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Abingdon Public Schools Foundation, 201 West Lower Street, Abingdon, Illinois 61410. The Koontz Little Chapel Funeral Home, Fort Walton Beach Florida, is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Edith M. Cravens
Mrs. Edith M. Cravens, age 90, of RR 1 St. Augustine, Illinois, passed away at 1:27 a.m. Friday, March 12,1999 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She was born July 29, 1908 at Paoli, Indiana, the daughter of Harley and Belle Moon Hill. She married Harold J. Cravens at Aledo on June 12, 1926. He preceded her in death on January 13,1995. Survivors include one son, James H. Cravens, Orion, Illinois; one daughter, Mrs. Rev. Herbert (Helen) Squire, Galesburg, Illinois; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister. She graduated from Little York High School, Little York, Illinois. She was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith. Funeral services were held at 1:30 Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Tim Squires officiating. Burial was in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, St. Augustine, Illinois.
Linda Keith
Linda Lou Keith, age 45, of 121 Sumner Street, Galesburg, died at 11:45 a.m. Friday, March 19, 1999, at her residence. She was born February 16, 1954, in Galesburg to Edward and Nada Leadbetter Keith. Surviving are her father of Galesburg; her mother, Nada Steward of Seattle; her stepmother, Kathy Kelso of Abingdon, who raised her; three sons, Edwin Morrow of Portland, Oregon, and Corey Morrow and Michael Harper, both of Seattle; one daughter, Kimberlynn Keith at home; one brother, Edward Keith Jr. of Galesburg; five sisters, Paula Keith of Galesburg and Valerie Donaldson, Sheila Blackwell,Crystal Reeves and Angie Williams, all of Seattle; and one grandchild. Two brothers preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Warren High School in Monmouth and Seattle Central Community College in Seattle. She was a member of Bible Study Outreach Missionary in Seattle and Faith Bible Fellowship in Galesburg. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Rodney Miller officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel.
Mary Eloise Traman
Mary Eloise Traman, age 78, of Wapello, Iowa, passed away at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 1999 in University Hospitals, Iowa City. She was born April 18, 1920, in Wapello, the daughter of Clifford Wayne and Lillian Westfall Wagg. She married Glenn E. Traman on August 25, 1939, in Burlington. He passed away January 2, 1982. Surviving are six sons, Phillip Traman, Larry Traman and Duane Traman, all of Abingdon, Illinois, Roger Traman, Denmark, and Ronald Traman and Mark Traman, both of Mount Pleasant; three daughters, Marilyn Emerson, Needville, Texas, Sharon Bernhart, Burlington, and Darlene Smith, Oakville; one brother, James Wagg, West Branch; one sister, Juanita Hyter, Burlington; 45 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one daughter, one brother; two sisters and three great-grandsons. She was graduated from Wapello High School in 1939. She was of Methodist faith. She was a member of the Paddlewheelers C.B. Club. Graveside services were held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Edwards Cemetery, Oakville with Rev. Danny Hunt officiating. Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
W. Glenn Formhals
W. Glenn Formhals, age 93, of 747 North Third Street, Cuba, Illinois, passed away at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 1999, at Graham Hospital Extended Care in Canton, Illinois. Born November 8, 1905, in Deerfield Township, Fulton County, to Calvin G. and Theda Markley Formhals, he married Eileen Schisler on August 17, 1930, in Peoria. She died February 15, 1992. He also was preceded in death by one son, three infant grandsons, one sister and three brothers. Surviving are four sons, Leon of Galesburg, Stanley of Lewistown, Ronald of Wataga and Richard of Dallas, Oregon, seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one sister, Eula Paschke of Canton. He farmed in the Spoon River bottoms along Illinois Route 9 in western Fulton County for many years before retiring in 1957. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Henry Memorial Home in Cuba with Reverend Rodney Ruberg officiating. Burial was in Wiley Cemetery in rural Ellisville. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association Fulton chapter, or any charity.
William McGraw
William T. McGraw, age 61, of 2922 150th Street, Alexis, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 1999, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born September 28, 1937, in Galesburg to M. Earl and Martha Condreay McGraw, he married Rebecca L. May on April 23, 1960, in Galesburg. She survives. Also surviving are his mother, Martha Reeves of East Galesburg; two sons, Donald of Aledo and William Jr. of Yorkville; one daughter, Mrs. Patrick (Jennifer) Kokjohn of Boone; five brothers, Dan of Knoxville, Jerry of Topeka, Kansas and Edward, John and Dave, all of Galesburg; three sisters, Mrs. Bob (Pat) Wilson, of Abingdon, and Mrs. Bill (M. Ellen) Belville and Linda McGraw, both of Galesburg; and eight grandchildren. One sister and his father preceded him in death. He was a switchman and brakeman for the former Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad for 43 years. He was a member of the United Transportation Union. He was a former member of Advent Christian Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. John Grimes officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Warren County Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to any charity.
