Dorthea Lee
Funeral services for Dorthea Louise Lee, 79, Roseville, were held Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. at Corman Memorial Home, Roseville. The Rev. Gina Sheridan and the Rev. Michael Brown officiated and interment was in Roseville Cemetery.
Mrs. Lee passed away on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at 9:38 a.m. at her residence. Memorials may be made to the McDonough County Hospice, the Macomb Church of God-Abrahamic Faith, or the Roseville United Methodist Church.
A daughter of Harold and Ruth Maddock Allen, she was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Ripley. She married Albert Lee on April 2, 1970, in Macomb, who survives.
She also leaves: a brother, Robert Allen, Auburn; a sister, Edna Mae Buesterhaus, Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.
A brother and a sister preceded her in death.
Mrs. graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing, Macomb, where she worked for many years until it closed. She then worked for Western Illinois University Health Center for many years.
She was a charter member of Macomb Church of God-Abrahamic Faith in Macomb, a member of the Roseville Chapter N of P.E.O. and the Roseville Woman’s Club.
Helen Friday
Helen B. Friday, 85, of Macomb, died at 8:20 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at McDonough District Hospital.
Born Aug. 12, 1916, in Macomb to Joseph L. and Bessie A. Stoneking Bean, she married Sterling W. Friday on Aug. 26,1933, in Macomb. He died Sept. 10, 2001.
She also was preceded in death by three sons, Charles Norman, Kenneth and Michael Friday and two brothers.
Surviving are three sons, James (and Mary) of Macomb, John (and Connie) of Avon and Robert of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Sandra (and Don) Nelson of Pekin , Beverly Brooks of Silvis and Bonnie Fordyce of Keene, Texas; 29 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harold Carlson of Springfield, Mo.
She worked as a cook for Macomb School District 185 from 1958 until retiring in 1980.
She was a member of Church of God Seventh Day.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Ron Green officiating. Arrangements were in charge of Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to her church.
Marie L. Horrell
Marie L. Horrell, 95, of Macomb, died at 12:02 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Heartland Health Care Center.
She was born May 1, 1906, in Sciota, the daughter of Thomas J. and Norma Ellen Wade Moss. She married Fred R. Horrell Dec. 19, 1925, in Macomb. He preceded her in death Aug. 2, 1996.
Survivors include: one son, Thomas L. (Carol) Horrell, Macomb, and one son-in-law, Tom Barry, Macomb. She is also survived by: six grandchildren, Lisa (John) Malinak, Jacki (Tom) Powell, Mike Barry, Steve (Trish) Horrell, all of Macomb, Jan (Rick) Stoneking, Colchester, and Bill (Kathy) Horrell, Bettendorf, Iowa; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and one sister Lorraine Whitman, Battle Creek, Mich.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Mildred Barry; and five brothers, Clifford, Lloyd, Clyde, Wade and Don Moss.
She retired from Western Illinois University, having worked as a cook and in janitorial services. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, camping and her family.
Graveside services were held Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, with Eugene Fields officiating.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Health Care Center Activity Fund. Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Gladys Mae Kendall
Gladys Mae Kendall, 87, of Aledo, Ill. formerly of Plymouth, Ill. passed away at 4:15 p.m. Sunday October 7, 2001 in Mercer County Hospital in Aledo.
She was born March 25, 1914 in Loraine, Ill. the daughter of Lawrence and Elsie (Ware) Gabel. She married Lois E. Kendall on March 30, 1935 in Bentley, Ill. He died on June 24, 1985.
She was a Homemaker and water billing clerk for the village of Plymouth for 20 years retiring in 1985. She was a 1931 graduate of Hamilton High School. She was a member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church for over 40 years where she was a member of the WSCS, and served on various Church committees, including chairman of Spiritual Life, chairman of Administrative Board and member of nominating and audit.
Survivors are: one son, Gary Irvin Kendall and his wife Nancy of Macomb, Ill.; two daughters, Beverly Kay Douglas and her husband, Michael of Rockford, Ill. and Jeanne Sue Barber of Aledo, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Jill Colley and her husband Tim, Todd Waterbury, Tom Douglas and his wife Jeanny, Jodi Kimble and her husband Jim, Lisa Allen and her Husband Derick, Tracy Palmer and her husband David, Chad Waterbury and Christen Barber; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret James of Normal, Ill. and Doris Roberts of Avon, Ill. She was preceded in death by a son, Phillip E. Kendall, a sister, Genevra Gabel, a brother, Lawrence Gabel and a grandson, Danny Barber.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2001 in the Plymouth United Methodist Church with Rev. Sandy Southard and Ron Peters officiating. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery in Plymouth. Visitation were held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Plymouth. Memorials may be made to the Plymouth United Methodist Church or the Tri-Village Ambulance Service.
Lawrence E. Thompson
Lawrence E. Thompson, 81, Monmouth, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at 3 p.m. in Community Medical Center, Monmouth.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, Monmouth, with Father Ron Enderlin officiating. Turnbull Funeral Home, Monmouth, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, the Immaculate Conception School or the Extended Care Unit at Community Medical Center.
A son of Lawrence Roy and Rose Mary Gavin Thompson, he was born March 27, 1920, in Monmouth. He married Margaret Louise Davis on Oct. 21, 1942, in Shreveport, La, who died Aug. 3, 1984. He married Rosemary L. Hager on Nov. 23, 1991, in Canton, who survives.
He also leaves: two sons, Larry K. Thompson, Little York, and Richard C. (Rachel) Thompson, Monmouth; six grandchildren; three stepsons, Gerald (Linda) Horger, Sioux Falls, S.D., Timothy (Paulette) Horger, LaSalle, James (Susan) Horger, Winchester, Ky.; 10 step-grandchildren; a brother, William (Polly) Thompson, Monmouth; and five sisters, Helen (Paul) Hanna, Galesburg, Margaret Ray, Berwick, Florence (Francis) Kane, Roseville, Grace (LeRoy) Dollinger, Metamora, and Martha (Claire) Driscoll, Monmouth.
His parents, two brothers, a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law preceded him death.
Ruth Bultemeier
Ruth F. Bultemeier, 87, of rural Avon, died at 10:25 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001 at Avon Nursing Home.
Born April 21, 1914, in Campbell Hill to Simon and Emma Sandusky Cottom, she married Arthur W. Bultemeier on Sept. 3, 1938, in Burlington, Iowa. He died Feb. 25, 1999.
She also was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are four sons, Jerry and Gary, both of Avon, Larry of Roseville and Bill of Princeville; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She and her husband had farmed in the Greenbush area for many years.
She was a member of Roseville Christian Church.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Oct. 17 at Corman Memorial Home in Roseville with Revs. Dave Bultemeier and Tim Randall officiating.
Burial was in Roseville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Avon Nursing Home, her church or Avon Fire and Rescue Department.
Ruth F. Bultemeier
Funeral services for Ruth F. Bultemeier, 87, rural Avon, were held Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. at Corman Memorial Home, Roseville. The Rev. Dave Bultemeier and the Rev. Tim Randall officiated and interment was in Roseville Cemetery.

Mary Alice Helmers
Mary Alice Helmers, 85, of Macomb, formerly of LaHarpe, died at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, in the Elms Nursing Home at Macomb.
She was born June 13, 1914, in Fountain Green Township, to Vernon and Christian May (George) Carmack. She married Wendell Helmers on March 10, 1938, in Nashua, Iowa. He died Aug. 4, 1987.
She is survived by sons Richard (Karen) of Macomb and Kenneth of Rock Island; grandchildren Douglas Helmers of Clark, Mo., Derek (Dovetta) Helmers of LaHarpe, Deborah (Tim) Canfield of Ada, Okla., and Johnna (Shannon) Fischer of Rock Island; eight great-grandchildren; one great-grandstepson; sister-in-law Vera Dick of Rock Island; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and brother, George Wayne Carmack.
At an early age Mrs. Helmers moved with her parents to Blandinsville and attended school, graduating from Blandinsville High School with the class of 1932.
After graduation she worked at the Kirbride Bakery and Wolfe Drug Store. In 1936, she moved with her parents to LaHarpe, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Olen Bradshaw at the LaHarpe Creamery. She continued as a bookkeeper when the Peoria Creamery took over.
She was elected to several terms as city clerk and city treasurer. In July 1962, she started as bookkeeper and clerk for the LaHarpe Telephone Company, continuing there until she retired March 31, 1985.
She and her husband moved to the Jefferson House at Macomb in December 1985.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Macomb, LaHarpe Senior Citizens, Wee-Bit-O-Fun Club and the Blandinsville Order of the Eastern Star.
Services were Sunday in Banks & Beals Funeral Home at LaHarpe with the Rev. James Stovall officiating. Burial was in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Lions Club, LaHarpe Senior Citizens and the Elms Nursing Home.
Elmer Carl Kraatz
Elmer Carl Kraatz, 96, of Macomb, died at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, in Heartland Healthcare Center, Macomb.
He was born on July 29, 1903, in Chicago, the son of Albert and Minna (Lampe) Kraatz. He married Elsa Lautherbach on Sept. 25, 1936, at Seattle, Wash. She died in January 1995.
Survivors include daughter Marcia (Hans) Moll of Macomb; son William (Rose) Kraatz of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister Lucille Scholz of Freeland, Wash.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-grand-stepchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and daughter Lynda Kraatz.
Mr. Kraatz lived in Seattle, Minneapolis, Minn., Phoenix, and Mesa, Ariz., before moving to Macomb in 1995. He worked for many years as an Independent Insurance Agent and later for the city of Phoenix.
Services were Saturday in the Lutheran Student Center, Macomb, with the Rev. Mike Burdick officiating. Cremation rites were accorded and private entombment of ashes took place in Green Acres Cemetery at Scottsdale, Ariz.
Memorials may be made to The Lutheran Hour, Heartland Healthcare Center, or MDH Day Health Care.

Irma Grace Nash
Irma Grace Nash, 82, of Virden, formerly of Macomb, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999 in Doctors Hospital at Springfield.
She was born April 22, 1917, in Tiskilwa, Ill., to Louis and Minnie Roberts Parsons. She married Glenn Nash in 1947, at Macomb. He survives.
Survivors also include daughters Cynthia Forster of Green Bay, Wis., Claudia Nash of Springfield, Carol DuBois of Springfield; grandchildren Ashleigh Forster and Kayla DuBois; three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Opal, Frances and Blanche; and brother Raymond.
Mrs. Nash lived in Macomb for many years before moving to Phoenix, from 1979 to 1996, when they moved to the Springfield area where she had resided since.
She worked as a bookkeeper for Montgomery Wards for many years and worked for Modern Home and Western TV.
She was a member of the First Christian Church from 1937 to 1979, First Christian Church at Phoenix from 1979 to 1996, and a member of West Side Christian Church at Springfield until 1999.
