Lloyd T. Williamson
Lloyd T. Williamson, 76, London Mills, passed away at 1:14 a.m. Monday, November 30, 1998, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg. Born December 22, 1921, in Northwood, Iowa, to Ira J. and Bertha E. Rule Williamson, he married Arnita Peterson on June 22, 1941. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Danny of London Mills; two daughters, Joyce Naslund of Maquon and Judy Libby of Chicago; one brother, John of Avon; one sister, Helen Zimmerman of Dahinda; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. A World War II veteran, he was a member of London Mills American Legion Post 470 and was a life member of Canton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1984. He farmed in rural London Mills. A member of United Mine Workers of America, he also worked at Midland Coal co. for 41 years. He was a past member of London Mills Masonic Lodge. Services were held Thursday, December 3, at the Coal Creek Bible Church, London Mills with the Rev. Mike Barr officiating. Burial was in East Midway Cemetery, where military rites were conducted by his VFW post. Corman Memorial Home, London Mills, was in charge of arrangements. Ferne Dakin
Ferne Dakin, 101, formerly of Roseville, passed away at 8:35 p.m., Friday, December 4, 1998, at Heartland Health Care Center, Macomb. She was born October 4, 1897, in Point Pleasant Township, Warren County, the daughter of Albert Burrus and Minnie Frances VanKirk Reed. She married Edgar Dakin on May 23, 1922, in Monmouth. He passed away January 27, 1972. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Betty) Leefers, Mrs. Nicholas (Doris) Hennenfent and Mrs. Lloyd (Mary) Miller, all of Macomb; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one sister, Frances Allison of Booneville, MO. She attended Western Illinois State Teachers College and then taught in rural schools in Warren County. She was a member of Roseville United Methodist Church. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 7, in Roseville Cemetery, with the Rev. Maurice Midgley, pastor of the Roseville United Methodist Church officiating. Marian F. Lewis
Marian F. Lewis, 82, 550 East Carl Sandburg Drive, Galesburg, passed away at 3:20 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 1998 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg. She was born May 14, 1916, in Avon the daughter of Drue and Ada Eathington Foster. She married Stanley Lewis on March 21, 1942 in Palmyra, MO. He survives. Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, John Lewis of Peoria and Sid Lewis of Abingdon; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Thelma B. King, Peoria and Jane Reeves of Mesa, AZ. He was preceded in death by one grandchild and one brother. She grew up in Avon where she graduated from Avon High School in 1934. She attended Western Illinois Teachers College in Macomb. She had lived in Galesburg since 1974 and lived in Abingdon prior to that. She was a homemaker and previously worked as a telephone operator in Avon, at the Abingdon Argus Newspaper and later worked as a Dental Assistant for Dr. Gordon in Avon. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Abingdon and the Women’s Fellowship of the church. She was a charter member the Abingdon Junior Women’s Club. She also helped organize the first Kindergarten Class which was held at John Mosser Public Library in Abingdon. Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 8, at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon with the Rev. Jon Prain officiating. Burial was in Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church.
David L. Friend
Onalaska,Wis. — David L. Friend, 60, Onalaska, Wisconsin, died Monday, November 30, 1998 at his home. He was born June 19, 1938, in Galesburg, the son of William and Sophia (Carlson) Friend. He married Sally Geissler on December 26, 1966, in Galesburg. Surviving are his wife; one son, Brian Friend, St. Paul, Minnesota; one daughter, Heather Nixon, Naples Florida; four children from a previous marriage, David D. Friend, William Friend and Robert Friend, all of Abingdon; and Deborah Tabb, Abingdon; one brother, Jerry Friend, Galesburg; two sisters, Drusilla Moran, Galesburg, and Sharon Shipplett, Abingdon. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. He was a 28 year veteran of the Navy. He then worked for the Continuing Education Department at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for 10 yeas, retiring in 1995. Funeral services were held at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, Onalaska, Wisconsin, with Rev. Mark E. Hart officiating. Burial was in Onalaska Cemetery, where military rites were accorded. Memorials may be made to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation for the dialysis unit.
Matthew Wilson
Matthew Wilson, 56, Prairie City, passed away at 5:32 a.m. Friday, December 4, 1998, at St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. Born December 25, 1941, in Topeka, KS, to Ross and Marceline C. Mack Wilson, he married Gloria Carlson on December 31, 1987, in Avon. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Matthew of Centralia; two daughters, Penny Wilson of Aurora and Teresa Leonard of Arkansas; three stepdaughters, Sandy Frakes and Julie Sloan, both of Avon, and Pam Busly of Aurora; one brother, Wayne of Cameron; two sisters, Martha Courson and Janice Johnson, both of Abingdon; several grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. One brother, one sister, and one daughter preceded him in death. He worked for the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad for 38 years. He was a member of the BMWE Union Local 783. An Army veteran, he was a member of Abingdon American Legion. Services were at 10 a.m. Monday at Corman Memorial Home, Avon with the Rev. Rick Kerr officiating. Burial was in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.
Vincent F. Klauer
Vincent F. Klauer, Sr., age 95 1/2, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Friday, November 27, 1998 in his sleep. He was born June 28,1903 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Frank and Theresa Klauer. He married Antoinette Morlock in Rock Island on June 30, 1927. She preceded him in death on November 14, 1983. He was also preceded in death by one son, Rev. Arnold Klauer and four grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters, Theresa DeCrane, Abingdon and Janet Norman and Cecilia Kargl, both of the Quad City area; six sons,Vincent Jr., Richard, Clarence, William, David and Bernard all of the Quad City area, 34 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. He worked as a Machinist Pattern Maker in Davenport, retiring from there in 1966. Services were held Tuesday, December 1 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Among those attending his funeral were his son-in-law and daughter, Don and Theresa DeCrane, Abingdon, and grandchildren, Dan and Becky DeCrane and family of Manito,Thomas and Irita DeCrane and family, Moline and Christine Miecznikowski and twins.
Ruth W. Dunbar
Ruth W. Dunbar, age 86, of 1013 N. Farnham Street, Galesburg, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 1998, in Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She was born April 14, 1912, in Swan Creek, the daughter of Joseph Andrew and Sarah Ellen Gray Strode. She married Orville N. Dunbar on August 24, 1939, in Abingdon. He died December 17, 1987. Surviving are one daughter, Cheryl Johnson, Victoria; two sisters, Edith Wheeler, Springfield, and Bess Payne, Bushnell; four grandsons, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. She was reared in the Bushnell area, and lived in Galesburg for more than 50 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Church of the Open Bible, and was a former member of the Covenant Church. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, Galesburg, with the Rev. Jeff Peterson officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Henderson Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Gladys "Kirk" Wiss
Gladys "Kirk" Wiss, 77, died at 4:30 a.m., Saturday, December 12, in Butterfield Retirement Village, Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was born in Roseville, May 11, 1921, the daughter of Hugh and Cora Meacham Kirkpatrick. She married Frank Wiss, September 28, 1945 in Champaign, who passed away August 3, 1979. She leaves a son, Dick Wiss of Boulder, Colorado; two daughters, Peg Morrison of Pettigrew, Arkansas, and Patricia Wiss of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a brother, George Kirkpatrick of Syracuse, New York; a sister, Dorothy Stoneburner of Roseville; and a granddaughter, Molly Davis. A granddaughter, Sara Davis and her parents also preceded her in death. A graduate of Roseville High School and the University of Illinois, she taught school in Pana, Illinois and was a volunteer at the Pana Hospital. Cremation was accorded and interment of ashes will be Friday December 18 at Pana. The family requests that memorials be made to the Pana Community Hospital, Pana, Illinois.
Ethel C. Boone Small
Ethel C. Boone Small, 85, Abingdon, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 1998 at 12:05 a.m. at the Care Center of Abingdon. She was born June 22, 1913 in LaHarpe, IL, the daughter of Edgar & Anna Helmers Buhl. She married Virgil Boone on January 30, 1932 in Dallas City, Illinois. He passed away March 23, 1975. She later married Andrew Small on September 22, 1979. He also preceded her in death. She is survived by four sons, Richard Boone of Abingdon, Edward Boone of London Mills, Terry Boone of Wataga, and Jerry Boone of Cullium, AL; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Sheldon Buhl, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter and her parents. Mrs. Small was a member of Our Lord’s Chapel in Galesburg. She formerly lived in LaHarpe, Roseville and Galesburg. while in LaHarpe she attended the LaHarpe United Methodist Church. She had worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galesburg and at the Galesburg Clinic. She retired in 1978. Funeral services were held Friday, December 11, 1998, at 2:00 p.m. at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, Illinois with Pastor Don Lundquist officiating. Burial was in the LaHarpe Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American cancer Society or to Alzheimers Research.
