Lorraine Emma Sherman
Lorraine Emma Sherman, 2428 Peninsula Drive, Daytona Beach, Florida, passed away at 5:21 p.m., Tuesday, December 8, 1998 at her home. Born January 26, 1903 in Elba Township, Knox County, the daughter of Gotlob and Emma Greiner Housman, she married Lewis William Sherman on September 13, 1920 in Morrison, MN. He passed away December 26, 1981. Surviving are two sons, Howard Sherman of Daytona Beach, FL and Richard "Dick” Sherman of Abingdon; two daughters, Elizabeth "Betty” Way of Abingdon and Ruth Ann Bryan of Ellisville; 20 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Esther Harris of Macomb and Ruth Hills of Farmington. Two sons, William Lewis Sherman, who died in a plane crash in England during World War II and Bernard Sherman, also preceded her in death. She had lived in the Knox County area for many years where she and her husband farmed. She later moved to Abingdon and then to Daytona Beach in the early 1970’s. She attended Yates City High School. She was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of American Legion Post 381 Auxiliary, and a Gold Star Mother. She was employed for many years at the former Blue Bell Manufacturing Co. in Abingdon. Cremation rites were accorded. A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 1998 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Dale E. Gallehue
Dale E. Gallehue, 86, Bushnell, passed away at 11:50 a.m. Friday, December 11, 1998, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Born February 17, 1912, in McDonough County to Elmer and Iva Ebert Gallehue, he married Reta Gale Buchen on June 29, 1939, in St. Augustine. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Sam (Jill) Schneider and Judy Gummersheimer, both of Champaign; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren and two sisters, Berniece Huffman of Bushnell and Mary Ann Sly of Milan. One grandson preceded him in death. A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1422. He was a farmer near Bushnell for 32 years and a member of the McDonough County Farm Bureau. He was a clerk for Mound Township board of trustees and a member of McDonough County Health Improvement Association. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, where services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. David Kurt officiating. A prayer service was held at Martin-Hollis Funeral Home on Sunday at 6 p.m. Burial was in the Bushnell cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bushnell Rescue Squad or his church.
Mae Fox
Mae Fox, age 95, of 606 North Washington Street, Abingdon, Illinois, died at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, December 13, 1998 at the Rosewood Health Care Center, Galesburg. She was born May 29, 1903 in New Haven, Kentucky, the daughter of Robert D. and Mary S. Fogle Peak. She married Philip P. Fox on September 25, 1932 in Abingdon, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 21, 1991. She is survived by two sons, Robert Fox, of Portland, Oregon and John Fox, Abingdon; one sister, Cecelia Melton, Galesburg, ten grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Phyllis Fox on June 17, 1998, and Nora K. Fox; one sister and five brothers. She grew up in New Haven, Kentucky and later lived in St. Augustine, Illinois. She had lived in Abingdon since 1929. She had worked at the former Blue Bell Manufacturing Company. She and her husband operated a gas station, grocery store and Maid-Rite Sandwich Shop. She had also worked at the Ben Franklin Store and last worked at the former Russ’ Grocery Store in Abingdon. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society of the Church. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Oman, officiating. Burial was in the Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Abingdon Public Schools Foundation.
Marian R. Lock
Marian R. Lock, 77, Avon, passed away at 9:45 a.m. Friday, December 11, 1998, at OSF Saint Francis Medical center in Peoria. Born September 4, 1921, in Fairview to T. Chellis and Louise Negley Taylor, she married J. Hobart Lock Jr. on November 29, 1943, in Canton. He survives. Also surviving are two sons, Terry of Lincoln and James of Avon; one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Carolyn) Moffitt of Knoxville; ten grandchildren and two brothers, Howard and Gene, both of Canton. She attended Eureka College. She and her husband were farmers near Avon. She was a member of the Prairie City Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, and was a member of the choir and missionary society. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Avon Unit of Fulton County Homemakers Extension Association. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, at her church with the Rev. Kurt Ayers officiating. Burial was in the Avon Cemetery. Corman Memorial Home, Avon, was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Justin Moffitt, Jeremy Lock, Jim Lock, Glenn Potter, John Potter, and Jason McKay. Memorials may be made to her church, the American Red Cross, Western Illinois Chapter; or the Avon Ambulance Service.
Vilasco O. Sorrells
Vilasco O. Sorrells, 83, 404 East Jared Street, Abingdon, passed away at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 1998, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. Born March 25, 1915 near Littleton, IL, the son of John and Amy Dugger Sorrells, he married Pauline Mercer on March 13, 1939 in Palmyra, MO. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Giles Sorrells of Dunlap, IL; one daughter, Loretta Peterson, Avon; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lena Larson of Berwick and Vivian Ruhl Millard, Abingdon. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. He farmed near Abingdon for 50 years retiring in 1972. He was a member of Coal creek Bible Church. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon with the Rev. Mike Barr officiating. Burial was in Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Coal Creek Bible Church or International Tremor Foundation.
Dorothy L. Norris
Dorothy L. Norris, 90, of rural Plymouth, passed away at 7:35 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 1998, at Elms Nursing Home in Macomb.
Born November 30, 1908, in Macomb to John G. and Mabel Ingram Baker, she married Donald I. Norris on April 11, 1931, in Keokuk, Iowa. He passed away October 11, 1995.
Two sisters and two brothers also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, James of Tennessee, IL, and Wayne of Plymouth; one daughter, Mrs. Blondell (Barbara) Hoyt of Macomb; two brothers, Harlan Baker of Good Hope and John Baker of Roseville; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She owned and operated Norris Florist in Macomb and also had been a floral designer for Bonham and Arling Florist in Macomb. She taught school in New Philadelphia after World War II. She attended Western Illinois College.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Macomb and Rebekah Lodge. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Good Hope Chapter for 72 years.
Services were held at 10:00 Thursday, December 16, at Jones Mortuary, Colchester, with the Rev. Mark Myers officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Macomb.
Memorials may be made to Hillsgrove United Methodist Church in rural Tennessee or Wesley United Methodist Church.
James W. Boyer
James W. "Bo” Boyer, 69, Abingdon, passed away at 2:23 p.m., Thursday, December 17, 1998, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born January 30, 1929, in rural Abingdon, the son of J. Vernon and Hilma Roberts Boyer. He married Jane McKinley. He later married Sandra Sloan Cox in Virginia, IL, on October 16, 1966. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Tim Boyer of Pleasant Plains, IL, and Brad Boyer of Denmark, IA; one daughter, Vicki Gray of Abingdon; six grandchildren; two great-grandsons; two brothers, Larry Boyer of Abingdon, Danny Boyer of London Mills; five sisters, Marna Johnson and Wanita Way, both of Abingdon, Peggy Thomas of St. Augustine, Jackie Timberlake of Phoenix, AZ, and Holly Powell of Avon; aunts, uncles, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.
He had lived in the Abingdon area all of his life and graduated from Abingdon High School. He worked for Admiral Division of Maytag for 36 years retiring in 1991. He was a member of Illinois Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders Foundation.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 21, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, Abingdon, with the Rev. Danny Hunt officiating. Burial was in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.

Florence J. Rinker
Florence J. Rinker, 94, Galesburg, passed away at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 1998, in All Saints Nursing Home, Jacksonville, FL.
She was born June 26, 1904, in Galesburg, the daughter of Clarence and Blanche Mitchell Jennings.
She married Lowell E. Rinker on July 9, 1927, in Galesburg. He died August 16, 1967.
Surviving are one nephew, Roy E. Ryscamp, Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Gertrude Gard, also of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one son, Donald E. Rinker, and by one brother and two sisters.
She was a graduate of Avon High School. A homemaker, she was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 17, at her church with the Rev. Paul Stiene officiating. Rosary was prayed at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial was in St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery, St. Augustine. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Theodore L. Tinkham
Theodore L. "Ted" Tinkham, 19 of 5129 Roberts Road, Peoria Heights, Illinois, died at 11:05 p.m. Friday December 18, 1998 in a traffic accident at 7924 Farmington Road, Peoria.
He was born April 12, 1979, in Normal, the son of Tyrone and Frances Smith Tinkham.
Surviving are his father, in Illinois; his mother, Peoria Heights; two brothers, Christopher Tinkham, Peoria and Matthew Tinkham, Peoria Heights; his grandparents, Al and Marilyn Smith, Galesburg, and Ted and Dora Tinkham, Cameron, and several aunts and uncles, and one nephew.
He worked in the stockroom at Famous Barr department store, Peoria. He was a member of First Christian Church, Peoria.
Cremation rites were accorded. The funeral services were held at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, Peoria, with Rev. William Petterson officiating. Internment will be at a later date in Swan Lake Memory Gardens, Peoria.
