Edward Glenn "Bud" Baxter Jr.
Edward Glenn "Bud" Baxter Jr., age 78, of 841 Knox Road 450 East Abingdon, Illinois passed away Monday, December 28, 1998 at 2:25 p.m. at his home in rural Abingdon, Illinois. Born October 26, 1920 in Canton, Illinois, he was the son of Edward Glenn and Elizabeth Haynes Baxter Sr. He married Imogene M. "Jean" Peterson on September 20, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 2, 1998. Survivors include one daughter, Vickie Lundstrom of Marquette Heights, Illinois; four sisters, Mrs. Harold (Vera) Becker of Knoxville; Helen Brentlinger of Galesburg, Berniece "Dolly" Sosh, and Mrs. Paul (Charlotte "Duke") Lear, both of Knoxville; 3 nieces and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, one brother and one niece. He was raised and educated in Knoxville where he lived before moving to rural Abingdon 23 years ago. He worked in the coal mines in Knox County and at the former Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad and also at the Admiral Corporation a Division of Maytag Corporation as an assembler retiring from there in 1985. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a former member of the American Legion. Cremation rites were accorded. Hurd Hendrick Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois, was in charge of the arrangements. Interment of the cremains will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
Alice Dilts
Alice F. Dilts, age 90, a resident of the Wesley Village Health Care Center in Macomb, passed away at 4:40 a.m. on Sunday, January 3, 1999 at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb. She was born on January 12, 1908 in Mound Twp., Illinois the daughter of Eck and Anna Hoke Johnson. She married Harry E. Dilts on February 15, 1930 in Macomb, he preceded her in death on September 26, 1989. She is survived by her two nieces Mrs. Herschel (Juanita ) Bryan of Macomb, and Cheryl Bryan of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Mrs. Marge Hovell and Carrie Lomax, both of Abingdon, are her sister-in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister Bessie Harmon. She moved from Bardolph to Macomb in 1947 where she worked for Scripps-Reno in Macomb for many years before her retirement. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Macomb Order of Eastern Star, Homebuilders Sunday School Class, and the Macomb Rocking Chair Club. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Rev. Lori Harvey officiating. Burial will be in the Bushnell Cemetery in Bushnell. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service on Saturday at the Funeral Home, where the family will meet with friends one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to the Wesley Village Health Care Center in Macomb.
Richard D. "Pop-up" Andrews
Richard D. "Pop-up" Andrews, age 61, of Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 1998 at the Keesler Air Force Base Medical Center in Biloxi, Mississippi. He was born May 11, 1937, the son of Wilford and Cora (Blanche) McCullough Andrews. He married Frances M. Quinn who survives. He is survived by his wife, of Biloxi, Mississippi, three daughters, Ginger Smith and Julie Garner, both of Olive Branch, Mississippi and Deana Tolbert of Owenton, Kentucky and five grandchildren. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1955. He was retired from the Air Force where he served as a Tech Sgt. He had lived on the coast for 25 years. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 33 and the V.F.W. Post 2484 where he served as a Chaplain. He was also a life member of the Air Force Sergeant’s Association, and a member of the Moose Lodge in D’Iberville, Mississippi. He was of the Protestant faith. Funeral services were held Monday, January 4, 1999 at Howard Ave. Chapel of Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi, Mississippi with a Chaplain from the Air Force officiating. Burial was in the Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, Mississippi.
Jessie L. Wright
Jessie L. Wright, age 93, a resident of Seminary Manor in Galesburg, formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 11:48 a.m. Friday, January 1, 1999, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, Illinois. She was born September 15, 1905 in RR St. Augustine, Illinois the daughter of Fred N. and Birdie May Wickline McGuire. She married Claire Palmer in Peoria in 1928. He preceded her in death on December 8, 1950. She married Harold Brady Wright on July 20, 1968 in Abingdon. He died in 1975. She is survived by cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was graduated from Abingdon High School and the former Brown’s Business College in Galesburg. She was a secretary and bookkeeper for the former Globe Manufacturing Company in Abingdon and later for the Abingdon Pottery until retiring in 1971. She was a member of Abingdon Congregational Church since 1923 where she had served as church clerk. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel, Abingdon with Jon Prain officiating. Burial was in the Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Congregational Church.
Betty Thomas
Betty Ann Thomas, 74, of 300 North Jefferson, Abingdon, Illinois, formerly of Havana and St. Cloud, Florida, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Friday, January 1, 1999, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galesburg. Born November 25, 1924, in Lewistown to Fred Willis and Pearl Madeline Krider Mustered, she married Billy Dean Thomas on June 4, 1953, in Hillsboro. He died October 21, 1995. Two brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death. Surviving are three daughters, Carol Morse of DeLong, Patti Jo Daugherty and Lisa Thomas Gregory, both of St. Cloud; one son, Billy Dean II of Ashland, Mo.; two sisters, Bobbie Boggs of Havana and Frances Benns of St, David; five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hopedale. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Hurley Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Burial was in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
W. Carlos Adams
W. Carlos Adams, age 81, of Rocky Mountain, Missouri, formerly of Roseville, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Friday, January 1, 1998, at Lake of the Ozarks Hospital in Missouri. Born October 25, 1917, in Brassfield, Kentucky to Morris and Lucy Mae Golden Adams, he married Marguerite Adair on August 11, 1940, in Kirkwood. She died December 26, 1989. One son, William, two sisters and one brother also preceded him in death. Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Carlson of Eldon, Missouri; and Carol Kerr of Topeka, Kansas; two brothers, Pete of Peoria and Robert of Oquawka; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of Roseville American Legion Post 614 and 40 et 8 in Monmouth. A member of the Electrical Workers Union in Peoria, he was a project manager for electrical contractors. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Corman Memorial Home in Roseville. Burial was in Roseville Memorial Park Cemetery, where military rites were conducted by his American Legion post. Memorials may be made to the Roseville American Legion Nursing Scholarship.
Harry O’Bryant
Harry O’Bryant, 97, Renaissance Care Center, Canton, formerly of Lewistown, passed away at 12:10 p.m. Friday, December 25, 1998, at Graham Hospital in Canton. Born August 12, 1901, in rural Bryant to William and Sophia Foster O’Bryant, he married Tressie Wilcoxen on October 6, 1923, in Lewistown. She passed away August 22, 1973. Four brothers and three sisters also preceded him in death. Surviving are one daughter, Elva Bainter of Canton; one son, Clinton of Havana; one brother, Paul of Memphis, TN; three sisters, Annabelle Black of Milford, VA, Coralee Gardner of Hurst, TX, and Evelyn Chewning of Roseville; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was a farmer and a member of Havana Church of the Nazarene. Services were held Tuesday, December 28, at Henry Memorial Home in Lewistown with the Rev. Wesley Burns officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. Memorials may be made to his church.
Florence E. Higgins
Florence E. Higgins, age 90, formerly of Kirkwood, died at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday January 5, 1999 in LaMoine Christian Nursing Home, Roseville.
She was born October 23, 1908, in Wauconda, the daughter of William and Mary Underwood Harris.
She married Harold Higgins on October 5, 1929, in Lake Bluff. He died April 26, 1984.
Surviving are one daughter, Caroline Krug, Kirkwood; one sister, Madelene Lill, Monmouth; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson.
She was reared and educated in Wauconda, Lake Bluff and Deerfield. She was a homemaker.
She worked at the Lake Bluff Library for 20 years before moving to Kirkwood in 1971.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth, with the Rev. Dave Berry officiating. Burial was in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery, Monmouth. Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Kirkwood, and to LaMoine Christian Nursing Home.
Peggy L. Williamson
Peggy L. Williamson, 69, Bushnell, passed away at 11:25 a.m. Friday, January 8, 1999, in the emergency room at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
Born November 7, 1929, in Swan Creek to Claude M. and Grace J. Scott McCance, she married H. Robert Williamson on September 24, 1949, in Bushnell. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Rodney of Avon and Robert of Bremerton, WA; one daughter, Rhonda Edmonson of London Mills; three brothers, Glenn McCance, Eugene McCance and Gaylord McCance, all of Bushnell; three sisters, Josephine Sorrells, Nola Avery and Theda Trout, all of Bushnell; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
She was a member of TOPS.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Martin-Hollis Funeral Home with the Rev. L.G. Glenn officiating. Burial was in Bushnell Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Bushnell-Prairie City School Foundation.
