Mary A. Carlson
Mary A. Carlson, age 95, Stronghurst, passed away at 6:10 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 1999 in LaMoine Christian Nursing Home, Roseville.
She was born July 10, 1903, near Raritan, the daughter of Isaac and Laura Starkey Brokaw.
She married Glen Carlson in Burlington, Iowa, on October 29, 1921. He died August 22, 1974.
Surviving are two sons, Gene Carlson, Glen Burnie, Md., and Charles Carlson, Burlington; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Edward Carlson, and by two sisters and one brother.
She was graduated from Stronghurst High School in 1921. She was a buyer for several years for the children’s department of Scripps-Reno Department Store, Macomb. She was a member of Stronghurst United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Stronghurst Community Senior Citizens.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Banks & Beals Funeral Home, Stronghurst with Rev. Marian Stone officiating. Burial was in Raritan Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Stronghurst United Methodist Church.
Willard Crisco
Willard D. "Willie” Crisco, of Galva, Illinois, passed away at 11:16 a.m. Monday, January 11, 1999 at his home.
He was born December 6, 1943 in Kewanee, the son of Dallas and Dorothy Conner Crisco. He married Shirley A. Gale, June 11, 1966 in Galva.
He was preceded in death by his father and step-father.
He is survived by his wife, his mother, Dorothy Peterson of Galva, one son Brad and his wife (Jill) Crisco of Roseville; one daughter, Julie Crisco of Monmouth and a sister, Eileen Pierce of Galva.
He graduated from Galva High School in 1962. He served with the Galva National Guard. He first worked with General Telephone Company and then was a salesman for Better Built in Galva. For the past 13 years he had owned and operated his own company selling liquid manure systems. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galva, a member of Hagberg-Hamlin Post #45 American Legion in Galva. He enjoyed golf, hunting and gardening.
Services will be Thursday, January 14 at 1 p.m. in the Rux Funeral Home, Galva. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Galva Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorials can be directed to the Galva Park District.
Glenola Snyder
Glenola McClure Snyder, age 79, Houston, Texas, formerly of Galesburg, passed away December 22, 1998, in a Houston nursing home.
She was born February 6, 1919, in Cameron, the daughter of Glen Giddings and Mary Joan Rhykerd McClure.
Surviving are three sisters, Evelyn Milward and Joan Josefson, both of Abingdon, and Isabel Wier, Denver, Colorado; one brother, Frank McClure, Galesburg; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Cremation was accorded. A memorial service was held December 31 in First Church of the Nazarene, Houston. A graveside service will be held this spring in Silent Home Cemetery, Cameron. Memorials may be made to hospices.
B. Gay Ehrenhart
B. Gay Ehrenhart, 64, New Berlin, formerly of Roseville, passed away Sunday, January 10, 1999, at her residence.
Born January 9, 1935, in Monmouth to Walter and Alma Bayne Enfield, she married Terry Ehrenhart on August 9, 1953, in Anchorage, Alaska. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Steven of Springfield; one daughter, Cherilyn Simpson of Rochester; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter.
She was an office manager for an ophthalmologist. She was a former member of the Roseville Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of Roseville United Methodist Church.
Cremation has been accorded, and services will be held at a later date. Corman Memorial Home in Roseville is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
George M. Johnson
George M. Johnson, age 72, of Abingdon, passed away at 4:47 a.m. Friday, January 15, 1999 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born April 21, 1926 in Alssburg Township in Minnesota the son of John W. and Malvina Johnson. He married Vonneda Day in 1962. They were divorced.
Surviving are one son, Brian Johnson, Abingdon; one daughter, Melissa Thompson, Macomb, Illinois; one sister, Gloria Schuette, St. Paul, Minnesota; four grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one infant son, 3 brothers (one of which was his twin brother), and his parents.
He had served in the US Navy in the South Pacific on the USS Cumberland Gap during WW II. He had lived in Abingdon for 38 years. He retired from Gunther Construction Company in Galesburg after working for 20 years. He was a member of Laborers Local 538 in Galesburg. He was also a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Abingdon Cemetery with Reverend Danny Hunt officiating. Military Rites were conducted by the Abingdon American Legion Post #381. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon was in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Mayo Clinic.
E. Duane Timmons
Eldon Duane Timmons, age 83, of London Mills, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Sunday, January 17, 1999, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
Born November 30, 1915, in London Mills to Arthur C. and Mary Davis Timmons, he married Helen Marie Brown on March 8, 1941, in Abingdon. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Galen of London Mills; two daughters, Ruth Timmons of Peoria and Mrs. Greg (Gloria) Neunaber of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
He was a farmer and drove a school bus for Spoon River Valley schools from 1962-1982.
He was a member of London Mills United Methodist Church, where he was a former member of the board of trustees. He was a member of Fulton County Farm Bureau.
Services were held at 10 am. Wednesday at his church with Rev. Rick Kerr officiating. Corman Memorial Home was in charge of the arrangements. Burial was in West Midway Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to his church.
Lena L. Barker
Lena L. Barker, 102, of Prairie City Nursing Home, formerly of Bushnell, passed away at 3:20 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 1999, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
Born December 1, 1896, near Marietta to Albert and Leora Tarter Hamm, she married Jacob C. Barker in 1925. He passed away in 1950.
She was also preceded in death by five sisters, two brothers and one great-great-grandchild.
Surviving are one son, Clarence of rural Ellisville; one daughter, Harriet Barker Bailey of Wilmington; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Bushnell Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
A member of Bushnell United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Methodist Women and the Quilting Club.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Martin-Hollis Funeral Home. Burial was in Bushnell Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Prairie City Nursing Center.
Linda S. Anderson
Linda S. Anderson, 50, of rural Ellisville, passed away at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 1999, at Graham Hospital in Canton.
Born March 21, 1948, in Macomb to Clarence and Lois G. Dionne Hood, she married Charles G. Anderson on October 21, 1966, in Osco. He survives.
Also surviving are her mother of Prairie City; three sons, Anthony of Macomb, Jon of Bushnell, and Edward of Ellisville; three sisters, Mary Ann Buffum of Fontana, CA; Cathy Brush of Poplar Bluff, MO, and Carole Powell of Bushnell: and five grandchildren.
One sister and one granddaughter preceded her in death.
She was a school bus driver for special education students of Spoon River Valley schools.
She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Bushnell.
Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Wiley Cemetery near Ellisville with the Rev. David Kurt officiating. Martin-Hollis Funeral Home in Bushnell was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
Roy Albert Thurman
Roy Albert Thurman, 91, of near Monmouth, passed away at 9:10 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 1999, in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born January 19, 1907, near Ellisville, the son of Charles Grant and Mary Elizabeth Byerly Thurman.
He married Alice Margaret Siders on December 7, 1925, in canton. She passed away January 11, 1991.
Surviving are four daughters, Clita Moore of near Monmouth, Argyle Lydic of Cameron, Carol Olson of Galesburg, and Sharon Lackey of Sandwich; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Charles Thurman, three grandsons, and 12 brothers and sisters.
He attended rural Ellisville schools. He farmed for many years in Warren County, moving to his farm in Monmouth Township in 1949.
He was a member and deacon of First Christian Church, Monmouth, where he was involved in the Keenagers Sunday School and Gleaners Fellowship.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 15, in Turnbull Funeral Home with the Revs. Ellis Beeman, Delbert Icenogle, Kirk Kendall and Lee Johnson officiating. Burial was in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth.
