Paulette M. Kretzschmar
Paulette M. Kretzschmar passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at McDonough District Hospital on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001.
Paulette is survived by her husband, Blaise Kretzschmar; daughter Mimi Kretzschmar, son-in-law, Henri Mayronnet, and grandson, Andre Meyronnet; daughters Beatrice Kretzschmar, Sylviane Kretzschmar Stites, Nathalie Jeglin and son-in-law Harlan Jeglin, and long-time friend, Michael Riordon. The family in France includes an aunt, Marguerite Wappler; cousins Henri Wappler and Roger Wappler; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene Zentz-Kretzschmar, Claude and Nicole Kretzschmar, Anne and Jean Desmaizieres, Claire Kretzschmar, Jean Pierre and Marielle Kretzschmar, and their families.
A visitation was held Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home; a private service followed.
The family requests that memorials be made in Paulette’s name to McDonough District Hospital.
Margaret ‘Midge’ Mull Albert
Funeral services for Margaret ‘Midge’ Mull Albert, 83, Omaha, Neb., were held Thursday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home, Blandinsville. Interment was in Glade City Cemetery, Blandinsville.
A former resident of Monmouth and Blandinsville, Mrs. Albert died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, in Omaha, Neb. Memorials may be left to the Blandinsville United Methodist Church of the Montclair Nursing Nursing and Rehab Center, 2525 S. 135th Ave., Omaha, Neb. 68144.
The daughter of Glenn and Nettie (Syblon) Mull, she was born Oct. 31, 1918, in Blandinsville. She married Robert "Bob” Albert of Roseville in 1946 who died March 8, 1968.
She leaves: a sister, Mabel Maxine Francisco, Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Mary Askew and Betty Tate, both of Good Hope; many nieces and nephews, Lana Isley of Omaha, Tom Francisco of Des Moines, Mary Casey of Andalusia, Marti Belluschi of Chicago, Dick Mull of Ames, Terry Albert of Henderson, Neb., Karen Ingledue, Rodney Tate, Janet Harwick and Kevin Tate, all of Good Hope, Jane Albert Fast and Kelly Albert of Jean, Nev.; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Her parents and three brothers, Wright Mull, E.G. "Gus” Mull and John Mull, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Albert grew up in Blandinsville and worked the post office. Following her marriage, the couple moved to Monmouth, then to Saginaw, Mich., until her husband's death in 1968. She then returned to Blandinsville for a time and moved to Tucson, Ariz. in 1969, where she was employed until 1991. In that year she moved to Omaha, Neb., where for the past eight years she resided at the Montclair Nursing and Rehab Center.
She will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, her wonderful sense of style and fashion and her love for family and friends.
Metta Marie Bacher
Funeral services for Metta Marie Bacher,77, were held Thursday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. at Corman Memorial Home, Roseville. Interment was in Roseville Cemetery.
A former resident of Roseville and Elmwood, Mrs. Bacher died on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at 12:10 a.m. in Farmington Country Manor, Farmington. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
A daughter of William and Metta Gibb Lybarger, she was born Nov. 14, 1923, in Roseville. She married Harlan Jones. She later married Ralph Clark who died Dec. 17, 1981, and married Ralph W. Bacher on Sept. 14, 1989, who survives in Elmwood.
She also leaves: a son, James Jones of Peoria; two daughters, Julie Hoops of Champaign and Vickie Long, St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, William Lybarger, Showlow, Ariz.; and many stepchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Her parents preceded her death.
Mrs. Bacher worked at the Iowa Ordnance Plant, Burlington, Iowa, and at Caterpillar in Peoria, and owned and the Corner Inn Tavern, Elmwood, before her retirement.
William Reeves
William G. "Bill" Reeves, 63 of Galesburg, died at 12:59 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
Born April 9, 1938, in Galesburg to Howard F. and Hazel V. Kisor Reeves, he married Martha Haines on April 12, 1957, in Abingdon.
He later married Rosanne Adamczyk Stachowski on Sept. 2, 1990, in Cape Coral, Fla. She survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Susan (Max) Whitcomb of Morton, Jean (Craig) Aulick of Olathe, Kan., Traci (Lane) Ericksen of West Jordan, Utah, Wendy Brown of Taylorsville, Utah, and Jamie (Adam) Hancock, of Eden Prairie, Minn.; one stepdaughter, Wendy (Shawn) Calhoun of Galesburg; two stepsons, Jeff Stachowski, of Dallas, Texas, and David Stachowski, of Denton, Texas; and 14 grandchildren.
He worked as a brakeman and conductor for CB&Q Railroad for 10 years and purchased the Olde Music Shoppe in 1967. He also owned BJ’s Music in Galesburg and Macomb, Billy G’s in Canton and a music store in Monmouth.
He played in the band "Midnite Ramblers" and in the late sixties, founded the Mid-State Opry, which was on the Roof Garden of Weinberg Arcade. He later played in the bands, "Cottonwood South," "Country Travelers," "Crossfire" and most recently the "Rural Route Four." He also appeared with numerous other bands in the area.
A Galesburg resident most of his life, he lived in Cape Coral, Fla., from 1986 until he returned to Galesburg in 1990.
He was a member of Alpha Lodge 155, AF&AM, and Warren County Saddle Club.
He was a member and high priest of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1977 E. Fremont., Galesburg, where services were held at 10 a.m. Monday.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Burial was in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to his church.
Ralph D. Ludington
Funeral service for Ralph D. Ludington, 64, rural Stronghurst, were held Monday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. at Banks & Beals Funeral Home with the Rev. George Knox officiating. Interment was in the Stronghurst Cemetery.
Mr. Ludington passed away on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at 4:05 p.m. in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
A son of John and Ellen Robbins Ludington, he was born Dec. 20, 1936, in Monmouth. He married Becky Lipes, Aug. 20, 1976, in Cameron, who survives.
He also leaves: eight daughters, LuAnn Brakeville, Little York, Valerie Tutwiler, Dallas City, Mary Carolan, Tempe, Ariz., Sue Phillips Niota, Stephanie Knoedler, St. Anne, Mo., Cindy McNeely, Mesa, Ariz., Amanda Ludington, Burlington, Iowa, and Melanie Jack of Roseville; five sons, Ralph Ludington II, Panhandle, Tex., Mark Ludington, Pontiac, Charles Ludington, Denver, Colo., Scott Ludington and Ron Ludington, both of Stronghurst; two brothers, Francis Ludington, Cedar, Kan., and Donald Ludington, Siler, N.C.; a sister, Maxine Quick, Cape Girardeau, Mo.; 23 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
His parents, a brother and four sisters preceded him death.
Mr. Ludington was a painting contractor in the Stronghurst neighborhood for many years.
Harry S. Gillespie
Harry S. Gillespie, 76, Macomb, died at 11:29 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Heartland Healthcare Center in Macomb.
He was born Nov. 26, 1924, in Carlton, Minn., the son of James and Maude Cain Gillespie. He married Marjorie Earnest on Aug. 19, 1949, in Waterloo, Iowa. She survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Ann Joslyn, San Antonio, Texas, and Jane Kellum, McKinney, Texas; and four grandchildren, Kathryn and Elizabeth Kellum, and Margaret and Rachel Joslyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James, in infancy; three brothers; and three sisters.
Mr. Gillespie received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa and his doctorate from the University of Missouri. He was a Spanish professor at Western Illinois University for many years. He had lived in Macomb since 1965 and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Macomb. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
A memorial service was held Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at the First Presbyterian Church in Macomb, with the Rev. Susan Coller officiating. Cremation rites were accorded. Memorials may be made to either the First Presbyterian Church or the McDonough County Humane Society. Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb was in charge of arrangements.
Fredrick McCann
Fredrick "Fred" E. McCann, 56, of Galesburg, died at 1:01 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
Born Jan. 13, 1945, in Monmouth to Anthony and Eulalia Cramer McCann, he married Patricia Marie Jackson Bishop.
He later married Daine Marie Mathews on Aug. 31, 1984 in Woodhull. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother of Galesburg; two sons, Mark of Monmouth and Timothy (Candy) of Abingdon; three daughters, Mrs. Michael (Tammy) Trout of Cameron, Mrs. William (Lori) Barron of Monmouth and Mrs. James (Peggy) Baysingar of Brighton, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren; four brothers, Robert of Orion, Joe (Janet) of Oquawka, John (Mary Ann) of Oneida and Larry (Rita) McCann of Longwood, Fla.; and two sisters, Mrs. David (Mary) Hoffman of Kankakee and Mrs. David (Lois) Foust of Eldridge, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father, one sister and one granddaughter.
He was a truck driver for Munson Trucking for 20 years, retiring Dec. 24, 1993. A Monmouth resident for 10 years, he lived in Galesburg the past four years.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with the Rev. Nolan Purtell officiating.
Burial was in East Linwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or City of Galesburg Handi-Van.
Eleanor M. Wilson
Final rites for Eleanor M. Wilson, 65, Macomb, were held on Monday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. in Sargent-Worthington Funeral Home, Macomb. The Rev. Richard Bailey officiated and interment was in Glade City Cemetery, Blandinsville.
Mrs. Wilson passed away on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at 9:02 a.m. in LaMoine Christian Nursing Home, Roseville. Memorials may be made to the Blandinsville United Methodist Church, the Roseville United Methodist Church or to the nursing home.
A daughter of Harry O. and Nellie Peterson Lundgren, she was born July 18, 1916, in Burlington, Iowa. She married Russell E. Wilson on Sept. 4, 1940, in Blandinsville, who died April 3, 1989.
She was also preceded in death by a son James and two brothers.
Surviving her are: a daughter, Marilyn (Ronald) Graham, Colchester; a son, Richard, Sciota; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Harriet Lundgren of Roseville.
Mrs. Wilson attended the Sciota Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
Maurine Cole Dains
Maurine Dains, 90, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Macomb, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Janaro Health Care in Scottsdale.
She was born May 14, 1911, the daughter of George and Mary Ellen Guy Cole. She married Robert Dains Dec. 28, 1937. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son, Dan, Vail, Colo.; one daughter, Mary Lou, Mesa, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews, including Kenneth Cole and Lois Bigham, Macomb.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Dains attended Western Illinois University and was a retired teacher.
Services were held Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, in Scottsdale.
