Joyce A. Still
Joyce Ann Still, 54, Canton, formerly of Bushnell, died at 12:05 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at home.
She was born Dec. 14, 1946, in Bushnell, the daughter of Clifford and Esther Thompson Still.
Surviving are her father, in Astoria, two brothers, Rex (Nancy) Still, Adair, and Roger (Vicki) Still, Berwick; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
She graduated from Sangamon State University, Springfield. She was president of the State Association for Nutrition and had worked at Western Illinois University, Macomb, for several years. She was a lay minister for rural churches in Fulton County for several years.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20 in Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, Bushnell, with the Major Everett Jordan officiating.
Burial was in Prairie City Cemetery.

John T. (Tom) Pence
John T. (Tom) Pence, 61, of St. Charles died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001 at the University of Chicago Hospital in Chicago.
He was born Aug. 28, 1940, in Galesburg, the son of John S. and Kathryn Lorraine (Strickland) Pence, Jr.
For 35 years he worked for the Xerox Corporation as a technical specialist, retiring in February of 2001.
He was a member of the St. Charles Sportsman’s Club and a past president of the St. Charles Football Booster Club.
He is survived by his wife, Ann, three children, Bridget Jendrzejczyk, Yorkville, John P., of St. Charles and Veronica Pence of Chicago; three grandchildren, Amanda, Michael and Erik Jendrzejczyk.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Locally he is survived by his aunt, Shirlee Hurt, with whom he made his home after the death of his parents. Other survivors are cousins, Debbie and Larry Dwyer, Jeff, Kristin, and Danny, and Doug Hurt and Nikki, all of Abingdon.
Visitation was Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at Yurs Funeral Home, St. Charles. The funeral service and burial were private.

Harold W. Strand
Harold W. Strand, 96, rural Abingdon, died at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born Aug. 10, 1905, in Macomb, the son of William and Anna Anderson Strand.
He married Evelyn S. Shughart on Jan. 26, 1935, in Warren County. She died Jan. 12, 1989.
Surviving are one daughter, Coral (Roger) Seitz, Oquawka; one sister, Mable Mann, Austin, Texas; two grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Charles Strand, one sister and one brother.
He was reared and educated in Monmouth.
He farmed all his life in Warren and Knox counties, retiring in 1995.
He was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church of Monmouth.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth, with the Rev. Frank Moyer officiating.
Burial was in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery, Monmouth.

Theodore J. Nelson
Theodore J. "Ted" Nelson, 58, of Galesburg, died at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday Nov. 28, 2001, in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born Dec. 21, 1942, in Galesburg, the son of Oscar and Mabel Lindeen Nelson. He married Janet Beth Cox on Jan. 27, 1968, in Abingdon.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Christopher M. Nelson, Galesburg; two daughters, Julie (Chuck) Hook, and Jennifer Lynne Nelson, both of Galesburg; four brothers, Quentin Nelson, DeLoyd (Nancy) Nelson, and Elliott Nelson, all of Alexis, and Eugene (Janet) Nelson, Galesburg; one sister, Maribelle (Ray) Krause, Bloomington, Minn.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He served in the Army Reserves from 1962-1968.
He worked for Admiral/Maytag as a repairman for 30 years, retiring in 1993. He also farmed in the Henderson Grove area for many years.
He was a member of the International Association of AeroSpace Workers 2063.
He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Henderson Grove.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Messiah Lutheran Church, Henderson Grove with the Rev. Kurt Carlsen and Eleanor Landon officiating.
Burial was in Henderson Grove Cemetery. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home, Galesburg, was in charge of the arrangements.

W. Gary German
W. Gary German, 62, of Knoxville, died at 1:55 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born April 23, 1939, in Williamsfield, the son of William A. and Eileen A. Eldridge German. He married Sonja E. Knight on May 10, 1959, in Galesburg.
Surviving are his wife; one son W. Scott (Linda) German, Abingdon; one daughter Beth C. (David W.) Burrows, Galesburg; one brother Otto (Mary Jo) German, Knoxville; one sister Dana (Robert) Culver, Yorkville; two grandchildren Abigail Christine Burrows and Aaron Burrows.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mieda Frederickson, and one brother Robert German.
He worked as a patrolman for the Galesburg Police Department for 29 years retiring in 1989. He later worked part time for the City of Galesburg Park Division.
He was a member of the Police Benevolent & Protective Association, Illinois Police Association, past member of the Western Illinois Antique Auto Club.
Funeral services were held at 10 am. Saturday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Frederick Larner officiating.
Burial was in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.

John Dean Barker
Mr John Dean Barker 75, Macomb, died at 7:23 p.m. Wed. Nov. 28, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 20, 1926, near Sciota, the son of John and Clara Phillips Barker. He married Loretta Fisher Campbell Aug. 25, 1962; she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, John Barker, Fla., and Alan Barker, East Peoria; two stepdaughters, Judith Fisher, Metamora, and Debra (Ken) Miller, East Peoria; five grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother: Clell (Hazel) Barker, Bushnell; one sister, Idelle (Robert) Ruebush, Burlington, Iowa; two nieces; and three nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin brothers, Keith and Kent.
He worked at C.S. Norcross & Son in Bushnell and Crawford Oil Co. in Good Hope. He was a barber in Sciota and Good Hope for many years and was retired from Western Illinois University. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Bushnell VFW, McDonough Post 6 American Legion and a 50-year member of the Good Hope Masonic Lodge, where he served as Past Master.
Funeral services were held Dec. 1, 2001, at Sargent-Worthington Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ron Stewart officiating. Burial was in the Good Hope Cemetery, Good Hope.
Memorials may be made to the Midwest Kidney Foundation, Macomb, or the Good Hope Fire Department.
Eugene A. Brown
Eugene A. Brown, 81, of Macomb, died at 7:24 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at McDonough District Hospital. He was born April 25, 1920, in Huron, S.D., the son of Bert and Nora Powel Brown. He married Irene Purdum Nov. 4, 1942, in Astoria. She preceded him in death May 18, 1989.
He is survived by one son, Ron Brown, Kokomo, Ind.; one daughter, Patricia Morrow, Macomb; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War, achieving the rank of captain. He was a residential builder.
Graveside services were held Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Steven Workman officiating.
Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Dorene Olomon
Dorene Olomon, 87, St. Augustine, died at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in the Avon Nursing Home, Avon.
She was born Jan. 15, 1914, in St. Augustine, the daughter of Floyd M. and Ida Mae Cozad Roberts. She married Arthur Olomon on Jan. 20, 1931 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1995.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary L. Hale and Ruby I. (Eugene) Way, both of Abingdon and Joann Baatz, Zephyr Hills, Fla.; fourteen grandchildren, thirty three great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three grandchildren.
She was a homemaker who had lived in rural Galesburg near Knoxville, rural Galesburg near Abingdon for eleven years and also in the rural St. Augustine area for thirty-three years.
She attended the former Lincoln Country School and the Delong Country School.
She was of Christian faith.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with Eleanor Landon officiating.
Burial was in Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville.

Gerald Hankins
Gerald W. Hankins, 61, of Henderson, died at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
Born Oct. 14, 1940, in Galesburg to Winfred and Margaret Lucille Brackett Hankins, he married his first wife, Nancy. He later married Sally J. Duncan in 1989 in Galesburg. She died June 14, 2001.
He was also preceded in death by his mother.
Surviving are his father of Galesburg; two sons, Michael (Dot) of Glen Burnie, Md.; and David (Rhonda) of Pasadena, Md.; one daughter, Mrs. Mark (Ann Marie) Booker of Glen Burnie; three stepsons, Jeff Sallee of Lynn Center, and Scott (Pam) Sallee and Todd (Debbie) Sallee, both of Galesburg; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Mike (Susan) Davis of North Henderson; three brothers, Alvin (Beth) and Larry (Teresa) both of Galesburg, and Terry (Linda) of Knoxville; and one sister, Mrs. Louie (Bonnie) Friend of Abingdon.
He was a Korean War Navy veteran.
He was a truck driver for Atlas Trucking for 15 years, retiring in 2000.
Cremation was accorded. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, where military rites will be accorded at 6:30 by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. There will be no services.
