Roger L. Schieferdecker
Roger L. Schieferdecker, 79, Farmington, died at 5:10 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2002, in Graham Hospital, Canton.
He was born March 1,1923, in Bowen, the son of Lloyd and Helen Lawless Schieferdecker.
He married Katheryn Baudino Scapecchi on Sept. 18,1960, in Burlington, Iowa.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Marsha Bird, Denver, Colo., and Paula (Brian) Hoffman, Avon; a sister, Joan (Coles) Johnston, Cambridge; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and served in the shipyard at the Panama Canal.
He attended Illinois College in Jacksonville, Miami University and Western Illinois University, graduating with a teaching degree.
He taught and coached one year at Plymouth High School then worked as manager of the Farmington branch of Alexander Lumber Co., retiring after 36 years as district manager.
He was a member of Farmington United Methodist Church, Farmington American Legion Post 140, Farmington Moose Lodge 1571 and the Farmington Senior Center.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2002 in Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joe Richard officiating.
Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Farmington, with military honors by American Legion Post 140.
Memorials may be made to Spoon River Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Clifford Cozad
Clifford L. Cozad, 93, formerly of Canton, died at 3:11 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Farmington Country Manor, where he was a resident.
Born Aug. 6, 1908, in London Mills to William F. and Lillian Briggs Cozad, he married Carmen Deskin on Aug. 3, 1933. She died Nov. 2, 1994.
He also was preceded in death by two sons, Armand and Ronald; one grandchild; and three sisters.
Surviving are one son, Lonnie of Tempe, Ariz.; one daughter, Doris (Richard) Riley of Fiatt; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
He had worked for Caterpillar Inc. for more than 30 years.
He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge in London Mills.
Cremation was accorded. Graveside services were held Saturday at West Midway Cemetery in London Mills with Richard Riley Jr. officiating.
Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton was in charge of the arrangements.
AliceMarie G. Nelson
AliceMarie G. Nelson, 49, Bardolph, died at noon Sunday, July 21, 2002, at McDonough District Hospital. She was born Dec. 5, 1952, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of William and Gertrude Sheehan. She married Bobby Nelson Aug. 22, 1980, in Las Vegas, Nev. He survives.
She is also survived by two sons, Johnny Aspromonte, Bardolph, and Joe Aspromonte, Oraville, Calif.; one granddaughter, Paige Marie Aspromonte, Bushnell; and one brother, Bill Sheehan, Brooklyn, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Johnny and Edward Sheehan.
AliceMarie had lived in McDonough County since 1981. She worked as an aide at McDonough District Hospital for eight years and worked in retail for 10 years.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002, at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb, with the Rev. David Kurt officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be made to the Paige Marie Aspromonte education fund, in care of the First State Bank in Macomb.
Mary C. Howell
Mary C. Howell, 70, Blandinsville, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2002, at McDonough District Hospital.
She was born June 23, 1932, in Hartford, Conn., the daughter of George C. and Elizabeth M. Hayes Crawley. She married Bob Howell Oct. 15, 1955, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hartford, Conn. He survives.
She is also survived by two sons, Robert (Ellen) Howell, St. Augustine, Fla., and Michael (Patti) Howell, Grandview, Mo.; two daughters, Jean (Stan) Nelson, Monmouth, and Laura (Michael) Emanuelson, Milton, Fla.; four grandchildren; and one sister, Carol (Bob) Keenan, Weatherfield, Conn.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Howell.
She received her bachelor of science degree in home economics from Marywoods College, Scranton, Penn. She had lived most of her married life in the Blandinsville area. She had worked as a county home agent in Pike County, Mo., for several years, and later worked at the library in Blandinsville.
Cremation rites have been accorded; there will be no services. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the McDonough District Hospital hospice program.
Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Blandinsville is in charge of the arrangements.
O’Deen E. Litzelfelner Wier
O’Deen E. Litzelfelner Wier, 85, Macomb, died at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Evanston Hospital, Evanston. She was born March 4, 1917, in Neelys Landing, Mo., the daughter of Otis and Ethel (Masterson) Litzelfelner. She married Royal Wier in 1942 in Festus, Mo. He died July 31, 1954.
She is survived by one son, Ronall Harrison Wier, Shorewood; one daughter, N. Dianne (Wier) Schleeper, Deerfield; three grandchildren, Kristina and Eric Schleeper, and Brian Wier; three brothers, Jack Litzelfelner and Jim Litzelfelner, both of Jackson, Mo., and Joe Litzelfelner, Granbury, Texas; and two sisters, Barbara Gorski, St. Louis, Mo., and Phyllis Vickery, Jackson, Mo.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
She was a registered nurse, working for Dr. R.G. Trummel in Macomb for 25 years; she then was a nurse at McDonough District Hospital for 18 years, retiring in 1985.
Memorial services were held Sunday, July 21, 2002, at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ron Green officiating. Burial of ashes will be held at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Macomb, at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Deerfield.
Thelma J. Sanders
Thelma J. Sanders, 78, Abingdon, formerly of Silvis, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001 at her son’s home in Abingdon.
She was born Nov. 21, 1922, in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Bessie Kahler Bahr.
She married Stanley H. Sanders on Nov. 26, 1939, in Marengo, Iowa. He died in 1986.
Surviving are two sons, Ralph (and Deanne) Sanders, Silvis, and Stanley F. (and Vicky) Sanders, Abingdon; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Blanche Hudepohl, Williamsburg, Iowa; and two brothers, Marvin Bahr, Marengo, Iowa, and Kenneth Bahr, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was preceded in death by one sister, two brothers and one grandson.
She worked at Maid-Rite and Frostop in Silvis and retired after working in the cafeteria of Silvis schools.
She was a former member of Silvis United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday in Schroder Mortuary, Silvis.
Burial was in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.
Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
William "Bill" C. Baughman
Word has been received of the death of William "Bill" C. Baughman, 64, of Dothan, Ala., formerly of Abingdon, on Sept. 8, 2001.
He was the son of Loren and Maxine Baughman, of Abingdon, who preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Terry Baughman.
Graveside committal of cremains was held Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001
Leota V. Brooks
Leota V. Brooks, 92, Macomb, died at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at her residence. She was born Jan. 26, 1909, in Hancock County, the daughter of Frank and Edith Ebert Meyers.
She is survived by one stepdaughter, Karen Riffle, Macomb; one sister, Helen Ballegoin, Milwaukee, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a special friend, John Stahl, and two brothers, Russell and Harold.
She was a member of the Fountain Green Presbyterian Church, Fountain Green. Cremation rites were accorded. Memorial services were held Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at her church, with the Rev. Mark Hansen officiating.
Memorials may be sent to her church or to the McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program.
Dora F. Carle
Dora F. Carle, 84, of the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb, Ill. formerly of Plymouth, Ill. passed away at 6:25 a.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2001 in McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Ill. She was born August 21, 1917 near Colmar, Ill. in McDonough County the daughter of Homer and Gertrude (Pointer) Bartlett. She was married to Alfred Carle on November 14, 1938 in Kahoka, Mo. He died March 8, 1995.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Macomb Assembly of God Church and had great love for God, her family and friends and her church. She enjoyed embroidering and quilting and working word search puzzles.
Survivors are: two daughters; Nedra Depoy and her companion, Robert Neavear of Colchester, Ill., Mary Chapin and her husband, Everett of Colchester, Ill.; eight grandchildren; Dannie, Lea and Rick Chapin, Tim Echternkamp, Tacey Endsley, Angie Bryant, Vicky Schermpt, William Worster and Tina Bennett. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Deward and Charles Bartlett. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2001 in the Macomb Assembly of God Church in Macomb with Pastor Alan Puccini officiating. Burial was in the St. Mary’s Cemetery near Plymouth. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Macomb Assembly of God Church. Memorials may be made to her family or to the Elms Nursing Home. The Hamilton Funeral Home in Plymouth, Ill. is in charge of services.
