Pana
Arlett L. Knight, 81, Pana, died 12:19 p.m. Wednesday (May 9, 2001) in Pana Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 14, in Bible Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Steffes officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Pana. Visitations are one hour prior to service in Bible Baptist Church. Arrangements are by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.
He was born May 4, 1920 in Harvel, IL., the son of Harry and Carrie Mathias Knight, deceased. He married Margaret Winter on July 17, 1939 in St. Charles, MO. She preceded him in death on Sept. 8, 1974.
Surviving are daughter, Rose Karalunas and husband Bob, Pana; nine grandchildren; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son, Jim Knight; daughter, Helen McGlauchlen; brother, Harold Knight; and sister, Irene Stoner.
Mr. Knight lived in Pana and Stonington areas most of his life. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was also a member of Bible Baptist Church, Senior Citizens of Pana, Teamster Union, and V.F.W., Morrisonville.
Ralph Hardy
Tower Hill
Ralph C. Hardy, 87, Tower Hill, died at 10:40 a.m. Sunday (May 13, 2001) in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday May 16 in Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Shelbyville with the Rev. Derrick Ritchie officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Tower Hill Cemetery. Memorial can be made to the Donor's choice.
Mr. Hardy was born June 3, 1913 in Shelby County, the son of Abraham Lincoln and Ida Estella Lockart Hardy. He married Wanda Pauline Wilcoxon on Dec. 22, 1941 in St. Charles, MO. She survives.
Also surviving are son, Charles Hardy and wife Carlene of Tower Hill; daughters, Linda Pritts and husband Bill of Dalton City and Barbara Hubner and husband Harold of Assumption; grandchildren, Clay Hardy and wife Kim, Luke Hardy and wife Penny, Chad Hardy and wife Carrie, Matt Hardy and wife Dena, Mark Pritts and wife Jennifer, Gina Pritts, Trudy Filchak, and Deborah Davis and husband Doug; great grandchildren, Josh Hardy, Seth Hardy, Niki Hardy, Coulter Hardy, McQuade Hardy, MacKenzie Hardy, Brittany Pritts, John Filchak, Samantha Filchak, Matthew Davis and Tiffany Davis; step great grandchildren, Nathan, Kristen and Nick.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nellie Hardy; brother, Ray Hardy and Leverette Hardy and great grandson Michael Davis.
He was a member of the Tower Hill Christian Church and the Shelby County Historical Society. He farmed until he was 87 years old. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Mary Ellen Williams, 65, Pana, died Sunday (May 13, 2001) in St. Vincent's Hospital, Taylorville.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 16 at 11 a.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home with the Rev. Lawrence Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Twin Pines Cemetery, Pana.
Mrs. Williams was born June 6, 1935, in Herrick, the daughter of John and Geneva Allen Williams.
Surviving are mother, Geneva Williams of Pana; children, Gary Williams of Key West, Fla., Lynn Williams and wife Carol of Shelbyville, Brenda Elder and husband Gerry of Shelbyville, Julie Willenborg and Jim Phillips of Neoga; 10 grandchildren, Staci, Christopher, Bradley, Adam, Ashley, Chris, Renee, Matthew, Erika, and Neil; and seven great grandchildren, Avery, Taylor, Colton, Jake, Brody, and Emilee
She was preceded in death by father; son, David in infancy; and sister, Sarah Smith.
She was raised in Herrick, then lived in Pana, moved to Shelbyville for 17 years and back to Pana. She worked in a factory.

Mildred Edith (Shewmake) Perry Whitley Gordon, 78, of Fremont, Cal., formerly of Shelbyville, died Sunday (Nov. 12, 2000).
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2001 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with Dr. Bruce Owens officiating.
Howe & Yockey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Following the service, there will be a gathering of family and friends at the 4-H Club Building in Shelbyville for a celebration of her life.
Mildred was born on Oct. 13, 1922 in Windsor, the daughter of Walter and Evelyn Henderson Shewmake.
She was an Illinois resident for 65 years before moving to California.
Surviving are her two sons, John Samuel Perry of Neoga and David Lee Perry of Lancaster, Cal.; one daughter, Jacki Lynne Hammond of Yuma, AZ.; nine grandchildren; and twenty great grandchildren.
Two children, Jenny Darlene Perry and Robert Dwight Perry and two great-grandchildren preceded her journey to our Lord..
Beulah Anderson

Beulah Anderson, 99, of Windsor, formerly of Mount Vernon and Bluford, died at 1:15 a.m. Thursday (May 17, 2001) at Shelby Memorial Hospital Skilled Care, Shelbyville.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Byford Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Mateer-Davis Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She was born Sept. 19, 1901, in Wayne County, the daughter of C.L. and Lena Webber Esmon. She married Ray Ashby. He died in 1920. She married W.L. Anderson in 1979. He died in 1986.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Gladys Marshall of Bald Head Island, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two stepdaughters, a stepson, two sisters and three brothers.
Memorials may be made to Salem Free Will Baptist Church or Cemetery.

Ben A. Jordon, 88, of Effingham, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday (May 17, 2001) at his residence.

Rosella Kirk

Rosella M. "Roby" Kirk, age 80, of Republic, MO., formerly of Summerfield, Fla. and Gays, died Tuesday (May 22, 2001) in St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield, MO.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 25 from 4-8 p.m. at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home in Mattoon. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26 at the First Church of Nazarene in Mattoon. Burial will be in Windsor Cemetery, Memorials may be made to the First Church of Nazarene.
Mrs. Kirk was born Feb. 19, 1921 in Gays, the daughter of Orval and Edith (Langston) Roby. She married Orion Kirk in 1937. He preceded her in death in 1980.
Surviving are sons, William Kirk and wife Pauline of Republic, MO, Gene Kirk and wife Judy of Hayesville, N.C.; John Kirk and wife Donna of Tuba City, AZ.; the Rev. Jim Kirk and wife Ruth of St. Louis, MO.; and Garret Kirk and wife Paula of Gulfport, Miss. She leaves one daughter, Rosalie Waskow and husband Richard of Vian, OK. She is survived by a sister, Lois Daily of Neoga, as well as 21 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers and one daughter, Vivian Marie preceded her in death.
She was formerly a Nursing Assistant at Mattoon Memorial Hospital. She was also a former member of the Mattoon First Church of Nazarene.

Shawn William Conlin, infant son of Mark and Ann Conlin of Sullivan died 1:34 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Reed Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Mollohan officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan. Memorials are suggested to St. John's Hospital Neo Natal Unit.
Shawn was born Friday (May 18, 2001) in Springfield Memorial Medical Center.
Surviving are his parents of Sullivan; brother, Steven at home; twin sisters, Stephanie and Sierra at home; maternal grandmother, Pearl Donelson of Shelbyville and several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather.
Carl Furry

Carl E. Furry, 85, of Shelbyville, died at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday (May 30, 2001) in Shelbyville Manor.
Private graveside services will be held Saturday morning in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, with the Rev. Robert Litteral officiating and military rites by Shelby County Honor Guard. Arrangements by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to W.W. II Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Furry was born on March 17, 1916 in Loxa, IL., the son of Joel Fletcher, Sr. and Ona Niccum Furry. He married Henrietta A. Roland on March 20, 1940. She died on June 14, 1990.
Surviving are daughters, Cynthia Stretch of Shelbyville and Kathy Endsley of Blue Mound, sister-in-law, Betty Furry of Shelbyville; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by wife; parents; two brother, Joel Fletcher "Joe" Furry, Jr. and Standley Furry; and one sister, Ila Hickenbottom.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II where he received the Purple Heart Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster and was a P.O.W. He was a retired lineman from the Shelby Electric Co-operative and a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville.
