Mabel M. Sherwood

Mabel M. Sherwood, 91, of Lakewood died at 2:17 p.m. Saturday (August 18, 2001) in the Shelby Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 3, 1910 in Shelby County, IL, the daughter of Ervin and Pearl Austin Hayward. She married Cleo Duckett and he preceded her in death. She then married Cecil Sherwood, November 5, 1932 in Vandalia and he preceded her in death January 25, 1987. She was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Doris Gregg, of Shelbyville; granddaughter Diana Freeman and husband John of Decatur; great-grandchildren Hallee and Ian Freeman of Decatur and one brother, Forest Hayward of Cowden.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Lockart and Sons Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with Rev. Rodney Herrick, officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 until service time. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be made to the Lakewood United Methodist Church.

Glenn Lee Jones, 41, of Beecher City, IL passed away at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2001 in Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Mr. Jones was born August 15, 1960, in Elmhurst, IL, the son of Merl E. and Nellie Hunt Jones.
He attended Lakeland College and was employed by International Paper Company in Shelbyville. He attended the Holland Community Church and participated in activities at the Holland Community Building.
Surviving are his parents of Decatur, IL; brothers Roger M. Jones of Melrose Park, IL and Norman D. Jones of Westchester, IL; niece Tracey Lynne Jones of Melrose Park; nephew Lloyd Roger Jones of Melrose Park.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2001 in Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Beecher City, IL with Rev. Marlin Miller, officiating. Burial was in Hubbartt Cemetery near Beecher City. Memorials can be made to the Holland Community Center.
Marjorie A. Hughes

Marjorie A. Hughes, 82 , of Pana formerly of Rosamond, died Saturday, August 18, 2001 at 8:00 a.m. in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.
Mrs. Hughes was born on April 21, 1919 in Barnum, Minnesota, the daughter of Glenn and Zela Faye Fetters Denton. She married Marion F. Hughes on November 1, 1941 in Barnum.
Mrs. Hughes worked for a period of years at Huber Memorial Hospital and was also a housewife and mother. She came to Rosamond as a bride and lived the rest of her life in this area. She attended Rosamond Community Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Helping Hands Club in Rosamond.
She is survived by her children, Marion L. Hughes and wife Gina of Taylorville; Bonnie Barger and husband Rolland of Champaign; Carol Ritchey and husband Darrel of Alturas, Florida; Thomas G. Hughes and wife Shirley, Pana; Shirley Fouts and husband Jerry, Forsyth; Michael Hughes, Killeen, TX; Marsha Hayes and husband Kenneth, Oconee; Iris Virden and husband Dennis, Ramsey; 29 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; sister Marilyn Urback, Sumner, Washington; brothers Gordon Denton, Cloquet, Minnesota; and Donald Denton, Barnum, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and two brothers, Rollie and Kenneth Denton.
Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2001 in McCracken -Dean Funeral Home, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Houston Jackson of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Rosamond Grove Cemetery, Rosamond.
Adam Tyler Gilbert

Adam Tyler Gilbert, 6, of Moweaqua, died at 5:23 p.m. on Friday, August 17, 2001 in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21 in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua with visitation from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Westside Cemetery, Moweaqua. Memorials may be made to Moweaqua Ambulance Service and Gregory Elementary School.
Adam was born in Decatur, IL on March 2, 1995, the son of Ralph and Diana Martin Gilbert. He was a student at Gregory Elementary School where he would be entering the First Grade.
Adam is survived by his parents, his brother Randy and sister Pamela at home and his grandparents James and Barbara Epps, Findlay; Ron and Jan McGregor, Pana; Charles and Debbie Martin, Stoney Creek, North Carolina; great grandmothers Mabel Wenke, Wichita, Kansas and Louis Brown, Osyka, Mississippi.
Harry W. Bauer

Harry Willard Bauer, 70, of Pana died Sunday, August 19, 2001 at 1:55 a.m. in Heritage Manor, Pana.
Mr. Bauer was born on December 26, 1930, in Ohlman, IL, the son of William Olin and Lena Beulah Hayden Bauer, both deceased. He graduated from Rosamond High School . He retired from Caterpillar in 1987 and also was a farmer, living his entire life in Ohlman and Pana except for when he was in the Air Force During the Korean War and stationed in Casablanca. He married Joan Lesko in 1952.
Mr. Bauer is survived by his children, Richard W. Bauer of Vandalia; Mary Elizabeth Laskowski and husband Robert, Decatur; Janet Streight and husband Dennis of Clinton; five grandchildren: Amy Huckstep, Amanda Salmons, Elizabeth Streight, Andrew Streight and Sam Worley and one great-grandchild, Julia Salmons. Two brothers, Dale Bauer of Pana and Dwight Bauer of Ohlman also survive. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Worley, on June 10, 1998.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, Pana. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 22, 2001 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. with Rick Miles, Pastor of South Fork United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Rosemond Grove Cemetery, Rosemond. Memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or Heritage Guild, Pana.

Menard King Weers, 85, of Moweaqua died at 5:03 p.m., Friday, August 17, 2001 in Carle Clinic, Champaign, IL.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua, with Mark Weber, officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, August 20. Burial will be in the Westside Cemetery, Moweaqua, with full military honors by American Legion Post, #370, Moweaqua. Memorials may be made to the Moweaqua Ambulance EMTs.
Mr. Weers was born in Rosamond, IL, March 3, 1916, the son of George Menard and Ocie Zelda King Weers. He worked at Mississippi Valley Steel in Decatur for 25 years and was a part-time farmer, member of Moweaqua First Christian Church, and a World War II Army veteran where he served in Iran.
He married Vada Louise Tolly on October 6, 1941 in Palmyra, MO and she preceded him in death on July 12, 1999.
Surviving are son Randy and wife Norma Weers, Springfield; brother George M. and wife Jean of Bettendorf, Iowa; sister Gertrude Ann Rozenberger, Pana; dear friend and companion Carolyn Downs of Moweaqua, five nephews and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother Chris.
Margie H. Vance

Margie H. Vance, 80, of Shelbyville, IL formerly of Decatur, died at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2001 in St. Mary's Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2001 with visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.. at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery, Decatur.
Mrs. Vance was born December 23, 1920, the daughter of Herbert J. and Bessie (Eaton) Diller. She was married to Glenn A. Vance, Sr. on October 18, 1938 in St. Louis, MO. Her husband preceded her in death. She loved camping and fishing with her husband and friends.
Mrs. Vance was a loving mother, grandma and great-grandma.
Surviving are her two daughters, Jeanine S. West of Findlay, IL and Linda Bosserman and husband Will of York, SC; grandchildren William West of Springfield, L, Randall West and wife Shari of Illiopolis, IL; Summer (Bosserman) Kolad and husband Joe of Lakeland,FL; great-grandchildren Kristi (West) Lowery and husband Trevor of Decatur, IL; Bryan West of Decatur,IL; and Austin West of Illiopolis, IL.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, son Glenn A. Vance, Jr.; son-in-law Bill West and two brothers and two sisters.
The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Mary's Hospital 7th Floor and the Physical Therapy Staff for all their compassion, hard work and dedication.
Anna Lois Beyers Meachum

Anna Lois Beyers Meachum, 81, of Taylorville died Monday, August 20, 2001 at 2:17 p.m. in St. Vincent's Hospital in Taylorville.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home in Pana. Funeral services will be Friday, August 24, 2001 in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Pana at 10 a.m. with Rev. Don J. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pana.
Mrs. Meachum was born March 7, 1920 in Assumption, the daughter of Charles Wesley and Nina Howe Stickel. She married Frank E. Beyers, Jr. on September 4, 1943 and he died on November 22, 1972. She married Daniel W. Meachum on April 16, 1982 and he survives.
Mrs. Meachum lived in Assumption, Palmer, Pana and the Taylorville area. She was a graduate of Assumption High School, and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Pana, St. Patrick's Ladies Society; St. Mary's Circle; and VFW Post #4431 Auxiliary, Pana. She was a homemaker and also worked at the State of Illinois Driver's Services office where she retired in 1982.
She is survived by children Mary Gayle Garrison and husband Dr. James S. of Dallas, TX; Charles F. Beyers of Pana; Ed L. Beyers and wife Candy, Olney IL; and Peggy Shrivers, Taylorville. Also, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Sisters, Frances Myers, Assumption; Doris Robinson, Assumption; Betty Jo Wempen, Assumption; and Ruth Cole, Lincoln, IL.
She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Stickel and sister Mary Ellen Greider.

Earl V. Reeder
Beecher City
Earl V. Reeder, 91, of Beecher City, passed away at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2001 in the Lynncrest Manor in Effingham. IL.
Mr. Reeder was born September 20, 1909 at Edgewood, IL, the son of Merrill Clark and Myrtle Mae Hackney Reeder.
He married Juanita Lucile Hubbartt December 26, 1931 and she passed away January 15, 1987. He married Miriam E. McNeely Wilhour January 2, 1988 in Cowden, IL.
Mr. Reeder was a life long farmer and was dedicated to public service for 40 years. He became County Assessor in 1941 and retired as Supervisor of Holland Township on September 9, 1982. He served on the Shelby County Board of Review in 1961 and 1972. He was a Democrat Precinct Committeeman from 1963 to 1982. He was an avid sportsman and was a member of the First Christian Church of Cowden, IL.
Surviving are wife Miriam of Beecher City; daughters: Betty Ann Clark and husband Max of Beecher City, IL and Carol Young and husband Larry of Shumway, IL; step-sons John Wilhour and wife Shirley of Owaneco, IL; David Wilhour and wife Jackie of Decatur, IL and Paul Wilhour and wife Maggie of Louisville, KY; six grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife Juanita Lucile; son William Merrill (Billy) Reeder; step-grandson Jim Wilhour, two sisters Cleta and Alma; seven brothers: Carl, Gaylord, Glenn, Otis, Edward, Bill, Roy and Loren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2001 in the Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Beecher City. Rev. Darrell Hinkle will officiate assisted by Rev. Dennis Warner. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hubbartt Cemetery near Beecher City. Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church of Cowden.
