Evelyn Welch Charles, 72, of Shelbyville, formerly of Martinsville, died at 10:44 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2001 at Shelby Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, in the First United Methodist Church of Martinsville with Rev. Mark Doane officiating. Visitation from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in the Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington Street, Martinsville. Burial will be in Marshall Cemetery, Marshall. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Martinsville or the American Cancer Society. Local arrangements by Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville.
Mrs. Charles was born on April 13, 1929 in Auburn, IN, the daughter of Earl and Mildred Kepler Deter. She was retired from 20 years as a Home Economics Teacher at the Martinsville High School. She was a member of the Martinsville First United Methodist Church and the Illinois Retired Teacher Association. She married Arthur Welch, who preceded her in death. Her second husband, Robert Charles, died March 27, 1985.
Surviving are her son, Steve Welch and wife Alissa of Shelbyville; daughter Karen Venz and husband Curtis of Beardstown; step-sons, Robert Charles, Jr. of Boulder CO and Joe Charles of Barrington Heights; brother Keith Deter of Bradenton, FL; sister Beverly Holse of Ashley, IN; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Evelyn S. Walker
Formerly of Decatur
Evelyn Marguerite Rasmussen Starkey Walker, 92, of Elkhart, Indiana, formerly of Decatur, Illinois, died at 7:50 a.m. Thursday, August 23, 2001 in Elkhart, Indiana.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2001 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Jeff Grote officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville.
Mrs. Walker was born on July 5, 1909 in Grand Island, Nebraska, the daughter of Dr. Harvey Lee and Dorcas Starkey. She attended Blackburn College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree and also a Master of Library Science from the University of Illinois, Champaign.
Over her extended professional career, she served as librarian and teacher at Blackburn College, Carlinville, Illinois, Northern Montana in Havre, Montana, Decatur High School, Decatur Public Library, Niantic High School and retired from Macon High School in June of 1974. She married Harry Dale Walker in 1941 and traveled with him through his assignments as a military officer in the United States Army during the Second World War.
After Dale's war service, she and Dale lived in Decatur until his death on February 20, 1996. She remained in Decatur until July 1996 and then moved to be near her daughter in Elkhart, Indiana. Her community activities included service as a Red Cross Volunteer, a tutor in Project Read and as a volunteer with the Job Corps in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
After she moved to Elkhart, she joined the YMCA Senior Citizens group and won an award from the Elkhart Mayor for her community service. She was also a member of several bridge clubs in Decatur and Elkhart.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Jane Walker Morrison, husband Daniel of Elkhart, Indiana; son Wallace Earl Walker and wife Susan of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Douglas Todd Morrison, Jennifer Elizabeth Morrison, Lee Edward Morrison, Blake Benjamin Morrison, Allen Dale Walker, and Kathryn Margaret Walker; and sister-in-law, Gertie Walker of Shelbyville.
Evelyn Starkey Walker was a consummate mother and grandmother whose selflessness, love and concern helped her family and her friends prosper. In addition, she was an intelligent and well-educated professional, she served others with concern, compassion and excellence. Her family and friends will miss her profoundly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Irvin, John and William and sisters, Verna and Florence.

Vera Calvert-Wolf
Shelbyville
Vera Marie Calvert-Wolf, 91, of Shelbyville, died at 3:10 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2001 in her residence.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with Rev. Robert Litteral officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the Shelbyville Senior Center or to the family.
Vera was born on September 16, 1909 in Champaign County near Sidney, IL, the daughter of John Albert "Dick" and Ida Mae Cox Houser. She was a retired seamstress and avid crafter. She owned and operated Calvert's Ceramic Shop in Shelbyville for 15 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville and an associate member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Shelbyville. She was a 39 year member of Shelbyville Women of the Moose #1325 and their Academy of Friendship, 27 year member of the National AARP, 13 year member of AARP #4084 in Shelbyville, three year member of the Lake Shelbyville Eagles and served as a volunteer for Shelbyville RSVP for several years. She married Howard "Skimmer" Calvert on November 28, 1929 and he preceded in death on December 7, 1983. Vera married Warner Wolf on July 13, 1986 and he died on July 2, 1990.
Surviving are her daughters, Shirley Fesperman and husband George of Shelbyville; Helen Kay Pfeiffer and friend Don Winsor of Neoga and Lennie Wells of Comanche, TX; brother, Omer Houser and wife Lorene of Phoenix, AZ; 11 grandchildren, Don Fesperman, Cheri Pfeiffer, and Robert Pfeiffer all of Shelbyville, Brenda Pfeiffer of Chicago, Terry Pfeiffer of Decatur, Christine Perry of Springfield, Phillip Storm of Mitchell, IN, Ronnie Storm of Ashville, NC, Gary Storm of Gibson City, and Glen Wells and Kathy Howard both of Comanche, TX; 25 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great grandchildren and two great-great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, daughter, Joanne Storm; brothers, Donald and Knowles Houser, sister Helen Harmon; and one grandson, Lewis Wells, Jr.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by all.

Patricia A. "Pat" Brown
Pana
Patricia A. "Pat" Brown, 63, of Pana died Thursday, August 23, 2001 at 7:15 p.m. in Heritage Manor, Pana.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 27, 2001 in McCracken -Dean Funeral Home at 12 noon with Rev. Randy Miller, Pastor of Knobs Baptist Church, Tower Hill, officiating. Burial will be in Price Cemetery, Oconee. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Mrs. Brown was born June 15, 1938 in Elgin, IL the daughter of Henry and Ruth Ebert Radloff, both deceased. She married James J. Brown on August 31, 1962 in Elgin, IL. She was a housewife and formerly resided in Pana but had lived in the Chicago are for 20 years before moving back to Pana several months ago. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Marengo, IL.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, James J. Brown, Pana and daughter Debi Stevens and husband Corey, Hampshire, IL ; two grandchildren Brian and Naylor and brother Edward Radloff, Hampshire, IL. She was preceded in death by a son, Wallace Medina.
Memorials may be made to Pana Community Hospital Foundation for Hospice or Vitas Hospice of Northern Illinois.

Beverly A. Dilley
Shelbyville
Beverly A. Dilley, 66, of Shelbyville, IL passed away at 4:25 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2001 in Olivewood Health Care Center in Shelbyville.
She was born December 14, 1934 in Cowden, the daughter of George Fred and Estella Deal Mattmiller.
She married Charles E. Dilley August 2, 1952 in Shelbyville and he died May 26, 1988. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Shelbyville.
Surviving are sons Charles Dilley of Jacksonville, NC; Michael Dilley of Shelbyville and Brian Dilley of Mattoon.; Daughters, Cheryl Randolph of Jacksonville, FL and Kimberly West of Shelbyville; 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; sister Marge Seely of Cowden. One brother and one grandchild have preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Lockart & Sons Funeral Home in Cowden with Rev. Darrell Hinkle officiating. Visitation will be from noon until service time on Wednesday. Burial in Mound Cemetery in Cowden. Memorials, Olivewood Health Care Activity Fund.

Michael Paul Kristian
Pana
Michael Paul Kristian, 89, of Pana died Thursday, August 23, 2001 at 3:15 p.m. in St. Vincent's Hospital, Taylorville.
Visitation will be Monday from 2:30 until service time at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home in Pana. Funeral Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday, August 27, 2001 in the McCracken-Dean Funeral Home with Douglas Chamness, Minister of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses officiating. Burial will be Mound Cemetery.
Mr. Kristian was born May 16, 1912 in Pana, the son of Michael and Susan Christian Kristian. He lived in the Pana area his entire life and worked at Penwell Coal Mine and Webb's Greenhouse of Pana. He was a veteran and member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, Tower Hill.
He is survived by his brother George Kristian, Berwyn, IL and sisters Mary Hauptman, Taylorville, IL; Theresa Rende, Blue Island, IL; Catherine McWhorten, Jacksonville, Fl; and Helen Ann Pickren, Augusta, GA; caregivers Douglas, Angie and Derek Chamness, Pana; and Bob Frances and Mollie Koonce, Pana. He was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Kristian and one sister Susan Cherone.

Richard Sturgill
Shelbyville
Richard Preston Sturgill, 79, of Shelbyville, formerly of Vandalia and Greenville, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, August 26, 2001 in his residence.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with Rev. John Schmeling officiating. Visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and one half hour before service time on Tuesday. Graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Montrose Cemetery, Greenville with military rites by VFW Post #1377 and American Legion Post #282, both of Greenville. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Sturgill was born on September 13, 1921 in Jenkins, KY, the son of William Preston and Grace Gilliam Sturgill. He was a retired independent trucking operator, member of the First Christian Church of Vandalia and a U. S. Army veteran of W.W.II, serving in the Philippines as a medic. He married Doris Frank in 1943 and she preceded him in death in February 1977. He married Zola Roberts Koehler on May 4, 1979.
Surviving are his wife, Zola; sons Bill Sturgill and wife Karen of Stockton, CA and Dale Sturgill of Lancaster CA; daughter Mary Schreiber of Chillicothe; step-son, Ron Koehler and wife Shelley of Shelbyville; brother Claude Sturgill of Kingsport, TN; sister Evelyn Bodey, of Holly, CO; four grandchildren, Annie Sturgill of Arizona, Wendy Yockey and husband Jerry, Brett Koehler and wife Amy and Kris Koehler and wife Lia all of Shelbyville and three great grandchildren, Vincent Sturgill and Molly and Maggy Yockey.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Marilyn Agnes Moreland
Pana
Marilyn Agnes Moreland, 66, of Pana, died Thursday, August 23, 2001 at 6:45 p.m. in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2001 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 11a.m. with Rev. Don J. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Oconee. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. until service time.
Mrs. Moreland was born July 15, 1935 in Oconee, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Reiss Rakers, both deceased. She married Harold Moreland, Sr., in April 1959 and they were later divorced. She lived in the Oconee and Pana area her entire life and was a homemaker.
She is survived by children Elaine Leigh, Assumption, IL; Kenneth Moreland, Eldridge, IA; and June Jophlin, Milwaukee,WI; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and brother Raymond Rakers, Ramsey, IL.
She was preceded in death by one grandchild and one sister in infancy.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Francis "Frank" Wekhuizen
Pana
Mr. Francis "Frank" Wekhuizen, 92, of Pana died Saturday, August 25, 2001 at 1:30 a.m. in Prairie Rose Health Care Center, Pana.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, August 28, 2001 in Calvary Cemetery, Pana at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Don J. Roberts officiating. McCracken-Dean Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wekhuizen was born July 4, 1909 in Belgium. He came to the Dollville area from Belgium as a young boy, and worked as a machine operator at Oliver Machine Shop in Shelbyville. He married Frances Dudzik and she died in 1991. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Pana.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Eleanora Dudzik, of Pana and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
