John G. Pierce, 70, of Shelbyville died at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2001, in the Shelby Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the Lockart & Sons Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with Dr. Bruce Owens officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with full military rites. Memorials may be made to the Shelbyville Booster's Club or donor's choice.
John was born August 8, 1931 in Rural Township, Shelby County, IL the son of Ross and Gussie Rittgers Pierce.
He married Marjorie Wagner, July 24, 1954 in Decatur.
John was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the United States Marine Corps. He fought in the battle of the Frozen Chosen. He retired in 1996 from FS in Decatur after 45 years. John was a member of VFW Post #4829 and the American Legion Post #81 both in Shelbyville.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie, eight children: Jane Cieplik and husband Mark of Newton, PA; Dixie Ladd of Shelbyville; Guy Pierce and wife Lesley of St. Charles; Rick Pierce and wife Debbie of Johnstown, OH; Mick Pierce and wife Jennifer of Oakdale; Greg Pierce and wife Tracy of Shelbyville; George Pierce and fiancee Julie of Shelbyville; Peggy Martz and husband Brad of Shelbyville; 18 grandchildren Kate, Lori, Brooke, Kyle, Kraig, Morgan, Natalie, Emily, Breanne, Kyle, Jackson, Kelsey, Madyson, Gabrielle, Bailey, Ryann, Drake and Quinn; three sisters, Doris Brown/Jordan of Shelbyville; Frances Hebenstreit of Ramsey and Shirley Pfeiffer of Shelbyville; two brothers Roger Pierce of Shelbyville and Richard Pierce of Independence, Ohio, several brother and sister in laws and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Leon Pierce.
John will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Betty L. Hanners

Mrs. Betty L. Hanners, 75, of Mattoon, formerly of Neoga passed away at 4:46 a.m. Thursday, September 13, 2001 in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 16, 2001 at the Block (Mt. Zion) Cemetery near Greenup, with the Rev. Ron Lake of Neoga officiating. There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Hanners was born on March 5, 1926 in Johnson County, IL, the daughter of C. Harry and Eunice (Whittenberg) Simpson. She married Clyde L. Hanners on June 30, 1948 in Joliet and he died on October 9, 1984.
Surviving are daughters Jean Tutwiler of Buford, GA; Judy White of Neoga; Donna Lawrence of Neoga; Mrs. Hubert (Karen) Clark of Greeley CO; and Mrs. Ron (Susan) Abraham, Altamont.
Brother William W. Simpson of Grayslake, IL; sisters Mrs. Paul (Fern) Rauch of Spokane WA; and Mrs. Eunice Pope, Lake City FL.
Also nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two grandsons.
Mrs. Hanners was a housewife and a member of the First Christian Church, Neoga. Memorials may be made to Heartland Christian Village in Neoga. Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home in Neoga is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth A. Martin, 77, of Shelbyville, passed away at 4 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2001 at her residence. Arrangements are incomplete at Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Shelbyville.
David T. Harkins
Decatur
David Thomas Harkins, 54, of Decatur passed away at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday September 15 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 19 in Funks Grove Church in Funks Grove, IL. Rev. Thomas Swantner officiating.
Visitation is 1 to 2 PM. and 5 to 7 PM. Tuesday and 1/2 an hour before services on Wednesday at the church in Seitz Funeral Home in Moweaqua. Burial is in Funks Grove Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Sandcreek Park in care of Macon Co. Park District or Sugar Grove nature Center McLean, IL.
Mr. Harkins was born in Woburn, Mass. on March 4, 1947 the son of James and Beverly Martin Harkins.
He was President of BCTGM Local #103 -G. He was past director of Illinois Foxtrotters Association and worked at ADM as a grain Handler.
He married Betty Huppert Oct. 2, 1971 in Funks Grove.
Surviving are his wife, sons: James and wife Tricia of Assumption, Thomas of Decatur. Parents of Carver, Mass., Sisters: Deborah and husband John Bunch of K.C., MO. Julie and husband Paul Anderson of Brocton, Mass. Granddaughter : Erin Harkins of Assumption.
Jim Cervi
Pana, formerly of Oconee
Jim Cervi, 37 of Pana, formerly of Oconee died Friday September 14,2001 at 3:20 am at his residence.
Mr. Cervi was born to Pete and Amy Bell Cervi of Oconee on May 16,1964.
Mr. Cervi was employed by R.& R. General Contractors in Mt. Zion. He graduated from the PHS Class of 1982 and attended Lake Land College. Mr. Cervi was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pana.
Married to Mary Siegert on March 16, 1985, she is surviving.
Also surviving are his parents Pete and Amy Cervi, sons Michael, David and Dylan. His brothers; Pete of Oconee, Joe Cervi and wife Norma, Owaneco, sisters; Sharon Neal and husband Jim of Virden; Karen Davidson and husband Bill of Bristol, TN; Carol Cervi, San Antonio, TX and JoAnn Bumgardner and husband Phil of Ramsey. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Sterling and Cheryl Brown and one niece, Savannah Jo Cervi.

Visitation is on Monday September 17, 2001 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home from 5 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 10;30 am with the Reverend Walter B. Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Rosemond Grove Cemetery, is Rosemond, IL.
Ruth A. Martin

Ruth A. Martin, 77 of Shelbyville passed away at 4:00 AM on Friday September 14,2001 at her residence.
Mrs. Martin was born April 23,1924 in Shelbyville the daughter of Leslie and Orpha Friesner Tate.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, the VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary and was active at the Senior Citizens Center. She loved to play bingo and bunco. She formerly was employed at the Sta-Rite Ginnie Lou Corp., the Fred Graham Dress Shop, Sears and Roebuck and for fifteen years, the Floral Boutique in Shelbyville.
She married Charles F. Martin May 11, 1946 in Shelbyville and he survives. Also surviving are sons Charles F. Martin Jr. and wife Nancy, Douglas G. Martin and wife Brenda of Shelbyville; sister Inez Gordon and Lois Gorden of Shelbyville and Vera Corley of Pana; brother Clifford Tate of Mt. Clemens, MI, sister -in-law Vivian Tate of Shelbyville, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Harley and Jack Tate.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday Sept. 16, 2001 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Rev. Robert Litteral will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 PM on Sunday at the Lockart & Sons Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.
Daisy F. Armstrong

Daisy F. Armstrong, 86, of Mesa, AZ, formerly of Findlay, IL and Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 10:10 AM Saturday, September 8, 2001 in the Encore Senior village in Mesa.
Mrs. Armstrong was a member of the Church of Christ of Findlay. She was a homemaker, seamstress and a professional tailor. She loved outdoor activities and sports, especially archery.
She married Cecil C. Armstrong Oct. 6, 1932 and he passed away September 21,1985.
Surviving are sons, Junior Armstrong and wife Shirley of Edgewood, NM and Sherman Armstrong of Mesa AZ; daughter Shirley Simmering and husband James of Mesa, AZ; ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Tuesday Sept. 18,2001 in the Lockart and Sons Funeral Home in Findlay. Visitation will be one hour before services on Tuesday. Burial will be in Findlay Cemetery, Findlay. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Donald M. Black
Killeen, Texas (formerly of Shelbyville)
Donald Melvin Black, 67, of Killeen, Texas died at his home on Friday evening September 14, 2001. Services will be held Thursday September 20 at 2:00 PM. in the Nazarene Church in Shelbyville. A military salute will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery.
Born on January 31, 1934 in Shelbyville the son of Melvin and Minnie Trip Black. He married Phyllis Hutton on November 15. 1953 at the Nazarene Church in Shelbyville.
He is survived by his wife in Texas, his son Melvin "Butch" and his wife Marie, two grandsons all of Florida and a sister, Barbara of Neoga.
He was preceded in death by three infant children, his parents and one sister, Shirley.
He served in the military and reserves and was military connected for many years, retiring from Ft. Hood in Texas.
Elmer Wallace
Havana (formerly of Windsor)
Elmer Verne Wallace, 78, of Havana died Friday evening, September 14,2001 at his residence.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM. Monday at the Laurel Cemetery, Havana. Arrangements are by Hurley Funeral Home in Havana.
Mr. Wallace was born in Windsor, the son of Verne and Daisy Bowman Wallace.A graduate of Windsor High School and the University of Illinois he was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
Mr. Wallace was also manager of FS in Havana for twenty years and manager of Kifco Irrigation in Havana for fifteen years. He was a lifetime member of the Windsor Christian Church.
Surviving are sons Stuart of Havana and Denny of Osage Beach, MO, sister, Evelyn Lovins of Windsor; two grandchildren Cathy of Minneapolis, MN and Shelly of Havana. Also one great granddaughter, Lilly of Minneapolis, MN.
